Short List

  • Favorite Athletes

Mario Andretti, Reggie Miller, George McGinnis, Gale Sayers, Barry Bonds, Willie Mays, Dwyane Wade, Tiger Woods, Oscar Robertson, Wilt Chamberlain, Arthur Ashe, Martina Navratilova, Dick Butkus, Peyton Manning

  • Favorite Sports Teams

ABA Indiana Pacers, Peyton Manning's Indianapolis Colts, Big Red Machine (1970's Cincinnati Reds), 1985 Bears

  • Favorite Coaches

Tony Dungy, Tom Landry, Mike Tomlin, Bob "Slick" Leonard, John Wooden, Mike Ditka, Sparky Anderson

  • All-Time Sports Moment

Watching Bob Beamon win the 1968 Olympic long jump with an utterly astounding leap of 29 feet 2 and one half inches - nearly two feet beyond the world record - no sports moment in history has ever come close to that. It was the single accomplishment that proved to me that on "one shining moment" anything is possible in sports. Beamon never approached that distance again. But he did do it once. And that's all that matters.

  • Most Memorable Game Attended

1982 Indianapolis 500 - real race cars, real fast, really close - a fantastic finish!!!

  • Most Unbreakable Sports Record

    Wilt Chamberlain's 100 points

  • Ruth or Mays?

No contest- it was the Say Hey Kid: Willie Mays. Mays played with grace and power. He changed the way people appreciated all aspects of the game.

  • Unitas or Montana?

Edge to Unitas; Unitas played in a much more difficult passing era. Montana was helped by Jerry Rice

  • Jordan or Russell?

Jordan was a better all-around player, Russell the consummate winner and leader by example who made teammates better. Tie - But the BEST player to ever play basketball was The Big O - Oscar Robertson. He defined the term Triple-Double. He could do everything. No basketball player past or present had/has his overall skill set.

  • Gretzky or Orr?

    Gretzky

  • Pele or Maradona?

    Pele could do everything

  • Federer or Sampras?

Roger Federer will win at least 18 majors - enough said

  • Tiger or Nicklaus?

Tiger is already better than any golfer who has ever played including Nicklaus

  • Petty or Earnhardt?

Mario Andretti - it isn't always about NASCAR

  • Schumacher or Senna?

Jackie Stewart from the past, Lewis Hamilton for the future

  • ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 or SEC?

    Big 10

Hey David, hope all's going well. I wrote a UNC preview if you're at all interested - I know it's not Big 10. =) Well, we did end up losing Lawson and Ellington as expected and Wall says we're "out of the running" (not that I care all that much), so I've previewed the '09-10 Heels as they stand:

Who was better, Joe Montana or Steve Young?

My latest article takes a deep look inside the numbers to find an answer to that very difficult question. I did more research for this article than any other I have ever written.
