Watching Bob Beamon win the 1968 Olympic long jump with an utterly astounding leap of 29 feet 2 and one half inches - nearly two feet beyond the world record - no sports moment in history has ever come close to that. It was the single accomplishment that proved to me that on "one shining moment" anything is possible in sports. Beamon never approached that distance again. But he did do it once. And that's all that matters.

No contest- it was the Say Hey Kid: Willie Mays. Mays played with grace and power. He changed the way people appreciated all aspects of the game.

Jordan was a better all-around player, Russell the consummate winner and leader by example who made teammates better. Hey David, hope all's going well. I wrote a UNC preview if you're at all interested - I know it's not Big 10. =) Well, we did end up losing Lawson and Ellington as expected and Wall says we're "out of the running" (not that I care all that much), so I've previewed the '09-10 Heels as they stand:
