Fedor Is In NYC Today! I'm Going! Are You?
08/26/2009
I am an avid fan of MMA with a background in several martial arts.
I really enjoy grappling, shootfighting with weak people (haha), hapkido, and weapons training. My favorite martial arts weapon is the cane, hands down. Boxing is fun to do, although I don't do it often. I suck at Judo, but I still try hard to understand it and have giant bruises to prove it, haha. I have a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo and I've trained in that for over ten years. After that, I got into Japanese Jujutsu, and in my last year of (undergrad) college I started learning a little BJJ with some guys that didn't really teach me much, so I'm looking for another opportunity to continue with that. My boyfriend wants to move to Russia and train with Fedor, but that dream is a little doubtful. A little. haha
Anyway, my enthusiasm for MMA has definitely allowed me to meet several of my favorite fighters, but I am still looking and waiting for more awesome opportunities to ask them questions and see what they are like outside of the ring/octagon.
I'm also a true "grassroots" MMA fan! I have been watching UFC since it started in 1993, with my brother and our tkd buddies. I was just a kid. That was back when the UFC had its "Mr. Clean" logo and no sponsors had their names on the mat yet. Royce Gracie, Don Frye, and Ken Shamrock were my childhood heroes. The UFC collector's tapes were on VHS!!! Do you realize they don't even make VCR players anymore?! LOL. Then I fell in love with PRIDE and its athletes, and started recruiting more and more "outside of the MMA world" friends to learn about the sport during our fight-night parties. I really enjoyed the format of the IFL while it lasted. Affliction has come and gone, but I loved every minute of it!
Now, years later I am extremely proud of all of my friends who actually know what I'm taking about (finally!) when I get excited over the next big fight. Dude, the only thing that sucks is that i get all these text messages while I'm trying to watch the fights. Oh well, not much to complain about, right?
Hey man, when you can check out my new article. Feedback appreciated. Thanks and hope you enjoy. Cheers!
