Michael Brantley left Tuesday's game with right shoulder injury from his diving attempt to catch Aaron Hicks' triple in the third inning.
#Indians trainer James Quinlan: I think we need to be prepared for [Brantley] to be missing a part of April.”
James Quinlan, Tribe's head athletic trainer, said team has to be prepared for Brantley missing time in April.
More Quinlan: Brantley won't start swinging a bat for four months.
Brantley will spend much of his offseason in Cleveland for shoulder rehab before transitioning to Arizona for Spring Training.
Indians had hoped time and a rehabilitation program would been enough for Brantley's shoulder. Surgery not always needed for labrum tear.
Quinlan: Brantley might be ready for start of hitting progression by 16-week mark. Hope is rehab games by 5 months, MLB games by 6 months.
Brantley will be 'game ready' in 5-6 months. Quinlan said that's referring to "rehab' game ready. Big-league ready, more like, 6 months.
Small labral tear evident after Brantley hurt shoulder in Sept. Shoulders are "challenging," but Quinlan/docs felt surgery might be avoided.
Quinlan: Indians "need to be prepared" for Brantley's rehab to linger into April and potentially May. Opening Day is goal, but not likely.
Quinlan said MRI revealed tear late in season. Tried to rehab it through Oct., but pain persisted. Brantley sought a second opinion.
Indians trainer James Quinlan, on Brantley: "Our goal is to have him ready for the start of the season," but preparing for late April/May.

Chris Antonetti said Indians were looking to upgrade outfield situation before Brantley's surgery.
Antonetti said Abraham Almonte could spell Brantley in left field if Brantley isn't ready to start the regular season.
With Brantley injured, outfielders on 40-man are short on talent and experience. Who plays CF, if Almonte opens in LF? They need help.
Antonetti on Brantley injury: "The good news is we're talking about this in Nov. and not March 6. I'm thankful we caught it at this point."
