The following slideshow represents the 20-member Dream Team for the 2012 fantasy season.

In 12-team fantasy leagues, a standard 16-player squad is comprised of two quarterbacks, five running backs, five wide receivers, two tight ends, one kicker and one defense/special teams.

However, when it came to making steep cuts at 16 assets, it was impossible to deny Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Ray Rice and Tony Gonzalez from this exclusive listing of seasonal superstars.

The most notable omissions include:

Quarterback: Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, Robert Griffin III, Tony Romo, Andrew Luck, Matthew Stafford.

Tailback: C.J. Spiller, Jamaal Charles, Stevan Ridley, Trent Richardson, Frank Gore, Chris Johnson.

Wide Receiver: Vincent Jackson, Julio Jones, Roddy White, Andre Johnson, Eric Decker, Wes Welker, Reggie Wayne, James Jones, Marques Colston and Victor Cruz.

Enjoy the show!

Here are four revised Sunday countdowns for fantasy Week 17—involving quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers and tight ends (standard-scoring leagues).

Some of the rankings have been modified to support new developments from the NFL's official injury list.

But as stated many times in this blog, I am not one to overreact to a star player listed as "questionable" prior to kickoff.

My rationale: If a guy practiced twice over the three-day period of Wednesday through Friday, I assume he'll play and garner roughly 70 percent of his standard touches, targets or pass attempts.

One last thing: Please consult the NFL Weather Map before finalizing any lineup dilemmas.

Here are my positional rankings for quarterbacks, tailbacks, wide receivers and tight ends heading into Week 17 (standard-scoring leagues).

For the record, I detest any fantasy league that carries over to the final weekend of the regular season. Subsequently, I would have zero empathy for anyone who gets hosed out of a title on Sunday after one of their big-ticket, playoff-bound starters sits the final two or three quarters of a meaningless finale.

Hopefully that won't be the case, though. Good luck this weekend.

Here are nine forward-thinking revelations off the Sunday portion of Week 16 action—none of which lament the Jets' three-headed stoogefest at quarterback.

Merry Christmas!

1. Generally speaking, drafting a quarterback high in Round 1 is a failed concept when the signal-caller falls short of 4,800 total yards and 43 touchdowns. But try telling that to Aaron Rodgers' owners, just one day after the reigning NFL MVP racked up his second-most prolific outing of the season—342 yards passing, four touchdowns (one rushing) and 36-plus fantasy points in the Packers' 55-7 demolition of the Titans.

2. I was dead wrong about criticizing the Seahawks for choosing Russell Wilson (200 total yards, four TDs vs. San Francisco) over Matt Flynn during training camp, just like I was off base for doubting that a rookie quarterback could carry teams to fantasy titles in mid-December.

On the flip side, I was right to assign Wilson a No. 11 ranking for Week 16. Whew!

3. Reggie Bush's audition tape, er DVD, for potential NFL suitors in 2013 got a little longer after he torched the Bills for 107 total yards (65 rushing) and three touchdowns. But for fantasy purposes, it's hard to quantify the relevance of Sunday's shakedown, given the uncertainty of the free-agent market in February. Especially with aging tailbacks (Bush is 27).

4. For next year's points-per-reception drafts, Doug Martin (119 total yards vs. St. Louis) shall rank no lower than my No. 4 running back. As a rookie, Martin posted 45 catches (for 454 yards), 11 touchdowns, nine outings of 118 total yards or more and seven games of five-plus targets. That's light-years ahead of Ray Rice during his rookie campaign (2008).

5. Just think of the damage Jamaal Charles (230 total yards vs. Indy) could inflict on opponents if the Chiefs weren't such a hot mess at quarterback, receiver and along the offensive line. While Adrian Peterson certainly merits consideration for NFL MVP...just remember that Charles (1,678 total yards, six TDs through 15 games) is this year's only tailback with two outings of 220-plus rushing yards.

6. I will not invest a Round 4 or higher pick on Eli Manning next summer, citing two reasons: his combined numbers for Week 15 and 16 (311 yards passing, one TD) were dreadful...and for Weeks 6 through 16 (spanning 10 games), Manning tallied 16 or fewer completions six times. Ouch.

7. From a real-world perspective, the Bills warrant a serious upgrade at quarterback during the offseason...and this is coming from someone who appreciates Ryan Fitzpatrick's place in the fantasy realm (preferred-status QB2). Bottom line: Six straight outings short of 250 yards passing doesn't pass the smell test.

8. At this moment, there are five must-have tailback handcuffs heading into next year's drafts: C.J. Spiller-Fred Jackson (Bills), LeSean McCoy/Bryce Brown (Eagles), Ahmad Bradshaw-David Wilson (Giants), Marshawn Lynch-Robert Turbin (Seahawks) and Ray Rice-Bernard Pierce (Ravens).

9. Memo to self: Avoid drafting Eric Decker (six catches, 65 yards, two TDs vs. Cleveland) in standard-scoring leagues next year...unless it completes the QB-WR handcuff with Denver's Peyton Manning (339 yards, three TDs).

For PPR leagues, though, anytime after Round 3 would suffice for Decker, who has crossed the PPR- elite threshold of six catches, 95 yards and/or one touchdown 10 times.

Here are 20 fun facts to consider before crafting fantasy lineups for championship Week 16—the end-all culmination of absurd draft preparation, meticulous roster management...and ignoring work/family obligations for the better part of five months.

Good luck to all!

1. Browns rookie Trent Richardson has accounted for 100 total yards and/or one touchdown in his last seven games. In that span, he's averaged 101 yards and one touchdown per outing.

2. Staying with the Ohio rusher theme, Cincy's BenJarvus Green-Ellis has quietly notched 100 total yards and/or one score in six of his last seven games.

3. By my count, Drew Brees (4,335 yards passing, 37 total TDs) is the only NFL quarterback to throw for either 300 yards or multiple touchdowns in all 14 games this season.

Quick Hitters

1. In three games against NFC East foes this season, Jimmy Graham (69 catches, 779 yards, eight TDs) has robust averages of 6.3 catches, 71 yards and 0.7 touchdowns. Of equal importance, he notched double-digit targets on all three occasions.

2. Aaron Hernandez has been superb in the last three weeks, sans Rob Gronkowski, averaging nine catches, 14 targets, 82 yards and one touchdown in that span.

3. Against AFC West foes this season (three games), Greg Olsen has rock-solid averages of five catches, 64 yards and one touchdown.

4. Tony Gonzalez has faced the Lions only four times in his 16-year, Hall of Fame-worthy career with the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons. And that's too bad...since he churns out roughly seven catches, 91 yards and 0.75 TDs for each battle with the Detroit Lions.

5. Heath Miller has enjoyed a strong tally of 23 catches, 318 yards and two touchdowns in the last four weeks. However, his home numbers for this season (six outings) lean on the side of mediocrity: averages of 3.7 catches, 40 yards and 0.33 TDs.

Quick Hitters

1. Let's start with a bad news/good news proposition involving A.J. Green: In three career meetings with the Steelers, Green has only eight catches for 131 yards. However, he found the end zone on all three occasions.

2. The same spectrum of fantasy emotions applies to Victor Cruz: Of the three games against AFC North clubs, he averaged only 4.3 catches and 48 yards per outing. But he also has three touchdowns to boost up the tallies.

3. Since Week 2, Wes Welker is a perfect 13-of-13 in collecting eight or more targets. And for the season, he has crossed the PPR-elite threshold of six catches, 95 yards and/or one TD 11 times.

4. Brandon Marshall has scored at least one touchdown in his last five road tilts. And during that span (Weeks 4-14), the Bears' wideout had monster averages of eight catches, 117 yards and 1.4 TDs.

5. Calvin Johnson needs 182 yards to break Jerry Rice's NFL record for seasonal receiving yards (1,848). Johnson's staggering numbers since Week 10 include: Three straight outings of double-digit catches, four consecutive tallies of 20-plus fantasy points (Weeks 10-13)...and six straight games of double-digit targets and 100 yards receiving.

6. At first blush, it would be foolish to project Steve Johnson for monster numbers this week, since he hasn't posted double-digit catches or 100 yards receiving against a division foe over the last two seasons.

However, he has averaged 10.1 targets in his nine encounters with AFC East foes (2011-12)...and I fully expect him to garner at least 13 targets against the Dolphins on Sunday.
