Breaking News: Terrell Suggs, Troy Polamalu To Miss a Month?

The Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers, two bitter rivals, are fighting for playoff supremacy this year. While the Steelers currently hold a wild-card spot, the Ravens are one game out with a tough schedule ahead.

However, both teams took a major blow this week, each losing one of their stars: Troy Polamalu for the Steelers and Terrell Suggs for the Ravens.

What at first seemed like injuries that would keep the stars out for at least two weeks have changed pretty quickly. According to Sunday NFL Countdown , both stars may miss up to a month with their injuries.

Polamalu re-injured the same knee he hurt in the opener. Suggs has a minor tear in his knee after a block put on by Brady Quinn.

The Ravens-Steelers rivalry is renewed for the first time this season Sunday and, unfortunately, neither of these stars will be performing on the field.

Roughing The Backer: Brady Quinn's Cheap Shot On Terrell Suggs

Monday night's contest between the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns was not much of a contest. The game (or at least the second half) went as expected: Ravens score, Browns punt, Ravens score, Brady Quinn interception, and so on.

However, something peculiar occurred in between those chain of events. Not only was it peculiar, it was outrageous, horrendous, and flat out cheap. It blows my mind that it is barely being talked about.

With 9:20 left in the third quarter Brady Quinn dropped back and threw a pass intended for wide receiver Mike Furrey, the pass was picked off by Chris Carr (Quinn's second interception of the night). Little did the football world know, we were about to observe the biggest play of Brady Quinn's career, so far and it wouldn't be a touchdown.

As Carr was attempting to get into the end zone, Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs fell over. He did not just fall though; it looked as if he slipped. As Suggs laid there I saw Quinn's number 10 flash near Suggs.

Then it hit me (no pun intended)

Brady Quinn, the biggest bust of the 2007 draft, cheap shot pro bowler Terrell Suggs. This was no ordinary cheap shot though. Quinn not only hit Suggs while Suggs was not looking, he hit him low.

Quinn broke a cardinal rule among players. You don't hit a guy in the knees. No matter what the situation is, you simply do not hit a guy in the knees.

What makes the whole thing worse is the way Quinn tried to cover his actions:

"Suggs came across at the last second in my vision."

No way. No way you didn't see him Brady. Suggs is six foot three inches tall and weighs 260 pounds. If you have trouble seeing a man that big you need to get your eyes checked.

While it may not explain the hit on Suggs. It does explain however, Quinn's one touchdown and five interceptions on the season. It explains why Brady Quinn has yet develop into the great quarterback him and his agent made him out to be. He can't see!

It must be hard to try to throw to wide receivers when you cannot see men who are taller than six foot. It's understandable.

Returning to the hit, the Ravens are obviously upset. Especially linebacker Ray Lewis who let his feelings be heard after the game.

"Heck yeah it was a cheap shot. When you're running down and you're looking at the quarterback going at somebody's knees who doesn't even have the ball. I want to see if he gets the same fine I got or even higher. Now this man (Suggs) is out 4-5 weeks because of some bologna like that. That's an illegal blow. I don't care how you look at it.

Lewis makes a good point about fines. Ray Lewis was fined for his helmet to helmet hit on Chad Ochocinco last month. That his was far less serious than Quinn's hit on Suggs.

It will be interesting to see how large of a fine the NFL will impose on Quinn. Lewis was fined $25,000 for his hit that did not injure Ochocinco or totally blindside him. By that logic Quinn should receive a higher fine for his far more severe "block" on Suggs.

It will be understandable if the NFL slaps Quinn on the wrist, since you know, he couldn't see as he lunged into Suggs' knees.

**The Ravens are reporting that Suggs will be out 2-3 weeks with a slightly torn medial collateral ligament in his right knee.
