Minnesota Has Favre Fever, But Adrian Peterson Still Vikings' Backbone

Another Sunday in Minneapolis, another dreamland victory for the Minnesota Vikings. So life goes nowadays for the Vikes, led by a magical man who refuses to fade.

After Sunday’s 36-10 thrashing of the Chicago Bears, the Vikings are slowly building momentum to January and are making their case to be called the NFC’s best team. I know, the boys in the bayou have the most explosive offense in the NFL to go along with that sparkling 10-0 record, but take one peek north and you may find the surest brand of football today.

It never was supposed to be like this. Tavaris Jackson was supposed to be the guy under center, Adrian Peterson was supposed to handle an unprecedented amount of carries, and the Vikings were supposed to be clawing with the Bears and Green Bay Packers over the NFC North title.

What a difference a little persistence makes. When Vikings head coach Brad Childress refused to give up on bringing Favre to Minnesota until the day he picked him up from the airport, fate changed in the land of the lakes. Favre threw for 392 yards (10 shy of his career high) and three touchdowns Sunday adding to his MVP season, and further caressed the hearts of Vikings lifers.

No longer do you think Minneapolis and immediately begin pondering the possibilities of an afternoon spent in Mall of America. No longer do you think Metrodome and begin plugging your ears to escape the deafening sound of the blaring horns that accompany autumns spent inside one of the country’s loudest stadiums.

We think about Minnesota, we think about the Vikings, and now we think about how Favre has transformed a team with talent into a team with conviction. By simply donning a purple No. 4, Favre gave this city and this franchise hope. By merely stepping on the field, he gave this team leadership and confidence. That’s what a Hall of Fame presence will do.

Problem is, that nostalgia only lasts so long if it isn’t compounded with something of substance. Hype fades faster than morning dew if it isn’t worked with and molded into production. This party train that is steamrolling through Minnesota would have been off the tracks weeks ago if the New York Jets version of Favre showed up to complement the game’s best running back and a championship-caliber defense.

With the comfort of some new Wranglers and the blessing Dr. James Andrews put on his right arm, Favre is playing the best football of his career. With Sunday’s performance, Favre eclipsed the 2,850-yard mark for the season while sporting a 24/3 TD/INT ratio. Completing just about 70 percent of his passes for the 10-1 Vikes, Favre is grabbing all the headlines. The resurgence is well underway, or some say.

Lets not make any mistake about it. The Vikings wouldn’t be half the team they are today without Brett Favre. They wouldn’t be looking like legitimate Super Bowl contenders without the ol’ gunslinger whizzing passes around the field while maximizing the talents around him, such as targets Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin. And I wonder if the defense would be as good as they are if they knew they had to hold the opponent to two scores in order to win a game. With Favre, mental burdens have been purged.

There is no doubt Favre is the MVP of the Vikings and could even make a strong case for being the MVP of the league. But there’s one thing we must not forget. While Favre directs this magnificent orchestra of speed and power, it is Adrian Peterson that makes it possible.

Nobody needs to be reminded of the wizardry of Peterson. His fluorescent purple Nikes can be seen slashing and dashing across the turf on his way to another six points often. But it is in times like these, with heightened celebrity and attention flocking to the organization, when we say hell with the foundation.

If Favre is the slick speedboat gliding across the lake in sheer beauty, Peterson is the relentless engine that keeps on churning water underneath the surface without poking up for some sun.

Early in the season, nobody expected Favre to play at this level, and therefore teams stacked the box against the Vikings, essentially saying, “Beat us, old man.” And he did. The game plan was to take away the Vikings greatest threat, Peterson, and force relatively unknown receiving targets to elevate their games. And they have.

While defenses are beginning to adjust—i.e. remain confused on how to attack the Vikings—Peterson is quietly putting together one of his finest seasons yet. He passed the 1,000-yard rushing mark during Sunday’s game, and already has rushed for two more touchdowns this season than he did in all of 2008. Peterson is on the cusp of averaging five yards per carry, right on par with last year’s rate.

Peterson has doubled his 125 receiving yards from a year ago, averaging almost nine yards per catch. The two-time Pro Bowler has done all of this while seeing his carries decline about two per game compared to last season. Childress would be smart to continue to ease the workload on Peterson as Minnesota wraps up the division and sets its sights on the playoffs.

A fresh Peterson in January means the opportunity to utterly obliterate opposing defenses, and the continued presence of Peterson allows Favre to succeed and remain healthy. Favre deserves credit for allowing the Vikings to back off Peterson slightly, but without “All Day,” would Favre even be standing heading into Week 13? It’s a question worth asking.

This story has grown almost too good to be true. Favre wasn’t supposed to come back at all, but when he did, it was clear he was as motivated as ever (for some possible reasons that could be painted in green and yellow). Favre wanted to make this thing work more than anybody, and he’s succeeding in style. Favre has almost become young again in the process.

And while I join many of you and dream up possible fairytale endings to this season—my favorite is a Vikings-Colts Super Bowl with a Favre-Manning showdown for the ages—remember one thing. While Favre dances up and down after scores, enjoying what has been his finest season, it’s the guy lining up in the backfield that keeps this dream alive.

Favre may hold the key to the city, but Peterson still holds the key to the title.

Read more Brett Favre news on BleacherReport.com

Vikings Look To Dominate Bears

Starting the year both teams went after star quarterbacks to take their team to the next level.

So far, it's only working out for one of them.

Brett Favre looks to lead the Vikings to their 10th win Sunday against the Chicago Bears.

I honestly think the Vikings will dominate this game with their high powered offense going up against an injured Bears squad.

Chicago has made it obvious that they can not stop Adrian Peterson and the Vikings running game.

The only chance they have to slow down this offense is to try and get pressure on Brett Favre who is having a stellar season. Good luck with that, Bears.

The entire season teams have tried to stop the run and force Brett Favre to beat them. That strategy hasn't quite worked out for opponents this year.

The Vikings defense is also looking to continue their solid performance this season and slow down Jay Cutler and Matt Forte.

I think the Vikings will put constant pressure on Cutler, who is leading the league with 18 interceptions, and try to force mistakes.

Matt Forte has been pretty disappointing this year but the blame is mostly on the offensive line.

Chicago ranks 28th in rushing, averaging only 89.3 yards, and will go up against the arguably the best rush defense in the league.

My pick: 35-10 Vikings

Read more Brett Favre news on BleacherReport.com

Fantasy Football Week 12 Player Breakdowns

If you haven't had the chance, be sure to check out this week's Start/Sit column, as well as our player rankings. For quick matchup analysis, read on for Week 12 's player breakdowns:

Miami Dolphins @ Buffalo Bills

QB Chad Henne: Has looked good, but Miami will run all day. **
RB Ricky Williams: Should see another big load, and Bills run defense is lousy. *****
RB Lex Hilliard: Should see more carries, but still barely a Flex play. **
WR Davone Bess: Gets a good amount of looks, but not the week to use him. **
WR Greg Camarillo: Too unreliable, and facing decent pass defense. **
WR Ted Ginn: Role isn't established, mostly only has value on returns. **
WR Brian Hartline: Only good for two catches per game, so weak play. *

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick: Looked ok last week, and Miami pass defense nothing special. **
RB Fred Jackson: Role is growing again, and Lynch is dealing with injuries. ***
RB Marshawn Lynch: Check his status, but role hasn't been great. **
WR Terrell Owens: Blew up last week, so the potential is definitely there. ***
WR Lee Evans: Has been quiet, but Fitzpatrick normally loves him. ***

Carolina Panthers @ New York Jets

QB Jake Delhomme: They should look to run the ball a ton, and he's no safe bet. **
RB DeAngelo Williams: Should be extremely active and Jets run defense has been weak. *****
RB Jonathan Stewart: Didn't do much last week, so hard to expect fireworks this week. **
WR Steve Smith: Should see a lot of the Jets top corner, but he's been on fire. ***
WR Muhsin Muhammad: Could see some looks if Smith is shut down. **

QB Mark Sanchez: Not a good option, especially with ultra-stingy Carolina pass defense. *
RB Thomas Jones: Panthers can be run on and Jones should have big workload. *****
RB Shonn Greene: Role has been small, but it's a good matchup. **
WR Jerricho Cotchery: Not a horrible play, but Carolina pass defense is very good. ***
WR Braylon Edwards: Has big-play potential, but can't love the matchup. **
TE Dustin Keller: Could be active as a dump-off guy, but low ceiling this week. **

Cleveland Browns @ Cincinnati Bengals

QB Brady Quinn: Was sharp last week and Bengals pass defense has been only so-so lately. **
RB Jamal Lewis: Should get enough touches to do some damage, but matchup looks tough. **
RB Chris Jennings: Has been involved, but can't expect much against a solid defense. *
WR Mohamed Massaqoui: Suddenly Quinn's go-to guy, or just another one-game wonder? **
WR Chansi Stuckey: Still can't be relied upon, and matchup doesn't help. *
WR Josh Cribbs: Can do some serious damage with returns, and role is ok. **

QB Carson Palmer: Matthew Stafford went off against them, so his chances are good. *****
RB Bernard Scott: Value dips if Benson plays, but Browns stink against run, so solid play. ****
RB Cedric Benson: If he plays he should get some good run with a nice matchup. ***
RB Brian Leonard: Has low-end Flex value if Benson is out again. **
WR Chad Ochocinco: Could have a huge day against very spotty secondary. ****
WR Laveranues Coles: Has a low ceiling, but matchup is fantastic. ***
WR Andre Caldwell: Not a viable fantasy option. *

Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans

QB Peyton Manning: No reason to expect anything but elite numbers. *****
RB Joseph Addai: Remains very active and keeps scoring, so run with him. ****
RB Donald Brown: Doesn't have a great role, so not a good play. *
WR Reggie Wayne: Always a great play, so start him with confidence. *****
WR Pierre Garcon: Is good for some shots deep, so worth a play. ***
WR Austin Collie: Role has been weak lately, but not a bad matchup. **
TE Dallas Clark: Best tight end in football and Manning loves him. *****

QB Matt Schaub: Colts secondary is banged up, so he has a chance. ***
RB Steve Slaton: Still the starter, but role is uncertain. **
RB Chris Brown: Had the bulk of the carries last week, so has value. **
RB Ryan Moats: Didn't touch the ball last week, so not a great play. *
WR Andre Johnson: Always a must-start, but not the best match up. ****
WR Kevin Walter: Hasn't been doing much, but potential is there. **
WR David Anderson: Did well last week, and could be active underneath. **
TE James Casey: Could start working into a bigger role. **

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Atlanta Falcons

QB Josh Freeman: Falcons pass defense stinks, so he's worth a shot. ***
RB Carnell Williams: Falcons can't stop the run either, so solid play. ***
RB Derrick Ward: Bucs say they'll use all three backs, so some value here. **
RB Earnest Graham: Ditto. **
WR Antonio Bryant: Is healthy again, so has a chance at success this week. ***
WR Sammie Stroughter: Not very reliable, but has a good matchup. **
TE Kellen Winslow: Has a solid role and Falcons are terrible against tight ends. ****

QB Matt Ryan: Bucs can't stop anyone, and Ryan looked better last week. ****
RB Michael Turner: Will be a game-time decision, but too much of a risk this week. ***
RB Jason Snelling: Should be the starter, and matchup is rock solid. ****
RB Jerious Norwood: Could have a bigger role this week, but not reliable. **
WR Roddy White: Should be back to normal against weak Bucs secondary. *****
WR Michael Jenkins: Could find a big play or two against poor secondary. **
TE Tony Gonzalez: Always a solid option, especially with nice matchup. *****

Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles

QB Jason Campbell: Eagles pass defense solid last week, so not a good play. **
RB Rock Cartwright: Will get all the touches, but tough matchup. ***
WR Santana Moss: Has the potential, but has been very unreliable. **
TE Fred Davis: Is Redskins second best option, so should get some looks. **

QB Donovan McNabb: Redskins pass defense is solid, so not an elite play. ***
RB LeSean McCoy: Should get solid amount of carries, and 'Skins run D weakening. ***
WR DeSean Jackson: Tough matchup, but always a big-play threat. ***
WR Jeremy Maclin: Has been very consistent, but nothing special. ***
TE Brent Celek: A very solid TE1, but matchup isn't great. ***

Seattle Seahawks @ St. Louis Rams

QB Matt Hasselbeck: Look for Hass to bounce back against excellent matchup. ****
RB Justin Forsett: Will likely start and should have a huge role in the offense. ****
RB Julius Jones: Game-time decision and not a good bet this week. *
WR Nate Burleson: Should be fairly active in nice matchup. ****
WR TJ Housh: Has been a disappointment, but it's a good matchup. ***
TE John Carlson: Shredded them for 7/97/2 last meeting, so nice play. ****

QB Kyle Boller: Matchup isn't horrible, but he is. *
RB Steven Jackson: Should get the ball a ton. *****
WR Donnie Avery: Check his status, and is a very iffy play this week. *
WR Brandon Gibson: Should see a lot of targets, but own ceiling with Boller in. **

Kansas City Chiefs @ San Diego Chargers

QB Matt Cassel: He should be very active late in the game, so not a horrible play. ***
RB Jamaal Charles: Chargers can be run on, and he has good potential. **
WR Chris Chambers: Could go off against former team. ***
WR Lance Long: Hasn't done anything lately, but could do some damage this week. **

QB Phillip Rivers: Chiefs secondary is weak, so expect big day. ****
RB LaDainian Tomlinson: Usually finds success against Chiefs, and has looked good. ****
RB Darren Sproles: Not a huge role, but useful in return leagues. **
WR Vincent Jackson: Has been quiet, but could explode this week. *****
WR Malcom Floyd: Over-hyped and very unreliable. **
TE Antonio Gates: He hasn't been great, but potential and matchup bodes well. ***

Jacksonville Jaguars @ San Francisco 49ers

QB David Garrard: 49ers can be shredded, and Garrard has looked solid. ***
RB Maurice Jones-Drew: A must-start. *****
WR Mike Sims-Walker: Always a solid play, and 49ers secondary not playing well. ****
WR Torry Holt: Hasn't scored all season, and production is dipping. **
TE Marcedes Lewis: Very unreliable role, but matchup could help. **

QB Alex Smith: Solid matchup, and Smith looked good last week. ***
RB Frank Gore: Jags can be run on, and Gore should get plenty of carries. *****
WR Michael Crabtree: Should be fairly active, and matchup is nice. ***
WR Josh Morgan: Unreliable, but Jags secondary is vulnerable to big play. **
TE Vernon Davis: Great game last week and potential is always there. *****

Chicago Bears @ Minnesota Vikings

QB Jay Cutler: Minnesota pass defense can be beat, and he'll be throwing all day. ***
RB Matt Forte: He's no match for the Williams Wall. **
WR Devin Hester: Should be active with Bears throwing a ton. ***
WR Earl Bennett: Could be active, but is inconsistent. **
WR Johnny Knox: Big play ability is there, and matchup is ok. **
TE Greg Olsen: Great matchup, as Vikes stink against tight ends. ****

QB Brett Favre: Bears pass defense stinks, so expect solid numbers. *****
RB Adrian Peterson: Bears aren't horrible against the run, but he should be fine. *****
WR Sidney Rice: Could torch Chicago corners, and is absolutely on fire. *****
WR Percy Harvin: Always a solid WR3, so a solid play this week. ***
WR Bernard Berrian: Not as involved as you would like, but has a good matchup. **
TE Visanthe Shiancoe: Always a threat in the red-zone, so decent play. ***

Arizona Cardinals @ Tennessee Titans

QB Kurt Warner: Head appears to be fine, and should pass a ton. ****
RB Tim Hightower: Titans stop the run well, so don't expect the usual. ***
RB Chris Wells: Should see the usual carries, but matchup not great. ***
WR Larry Fitzgerald: Always a great play, and should be very active. *****
WR Anquan Boldin: Looked good last week, and should play big role again. ****
WR Steve Breaston: Role has been solid, so decent play this week. ***

QB Vince Young: Cardinals pass defense stinks, but he won't be too active. ***
RB Chris Johnson: Has been awesome, and matchup is decent. *****
RB Lendale White: Scored last week, so could see some run this week. **
WR Justin Gage: Still out with a back injury.
WR Kenny Britt: Has been starting and playing ok, so decent option this week. ***
WR Nate Washington: Solid matchup, so not a horrible WR3 this week. **
TE Bo Scaife: Role has been small, so find another option. *

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Baltimore Ravens

QB Ben Roethlisberger: Check his status, but matchup bodes well. *****
RB Rashard Mendenhall: Ravens stop the run well, so not a great play. ***
WR Hines Ward: Should be very active, and matchup bodes well. ****
WR Santonio Holmes: Hasn't scored since week one, so this could be the week. ****
WR Mike Wallace: Could see solid amount of targets with nice matchup. ***
TE Heath Miller: Was very active last week, so solid play against Ravens. ****

QB Joe Flacco: Steelers can be passed on, and he should throw a lot. ***
RB Ray Rice: Could still be active through screens, but Steelers stop the run well. ***
RB Willis MGahee: Only has value near the goalline. *
WR Derrick Mason: Should be active, so solid WR3 this week. ***
WR Mark Clayton: Very unreliable, but Ravens will have to pass. **
TE Todd Heap: Not a big role, and just not very explosive. **

New England Patriots @ New Orleans Saints

QB Tom Brady: Should be fine in a huge matchup. ****
RB Laurence Maroney: Saints can't stop the run, so good play. ****
WR Randy Moss: Saints will have trouble with him early and often. *****
WR Wes Welker: Will be extremely active as usual. *****
WR Julian Edelman: Role fairly small, but potential is there. **
TE Ben Watson: Hasn't done much lately, so not a great play. **

QB Drew Brees: Patriots can be passed on, and he'll be needed. *****
RB Pierre Thomas: Should be active early, but Pats are decent against run. ***
RB Mike Bell: Had a good game last week, so should have decent role. ***
RB Reggie Bush: Iffy this week, but role is inconsistent, anyways. **
WR Marques Colston: A solid start in a huge game, and was active last week. ***
WR Devery Henderson: Hasn't been very good lately, but potential is there. **
WR Robert Meachem: Has scored in three straight, so a solid WR3. ***
TE Jeremy Shockey: Hasn't done much lately, so only a so-so play. **

Read more Brett Favre
2010 Minnesota Vikings Mock Draft: Will Colt McCoy Fall To Minnesota?

The NFL Draft is in exactly five months from today (11/28/09). I haven't done a full Minnesota Vikings mock draft in almost eight months now.

This is one of my favorite articles to post out to the world of Bleacher Report.

Typically, I get a good response from my mock drafts because of how accurate and realistic they are.

Enough of my boasting.

Now it's time for the picks!

First round (30): Travis Lewis, Outside Linebacker, Oklahoma

Ben Leber, the Vikings current weakside linebacker has obviously lost a step in his game. Lewis would be the perfect candidate to take over for him in either 2010 or 2011. He has great size at 6'2" and 230 lbs. Lewis is a great tackler and an all around dominant linebacker. He will be able to step in right away to make an impact for an already impressive Minnesota Vikings defense.

Second round (62): Nate Allen, Free Safety, South Florida

For some reason I just can't seem to think that Madieu Williams is a great start at free safety. The reason is simple: It's because he's not. Allen is a great prospect, and would be an excellent pick late in the second round. Will he start in 2010? Doubtful. But he would definitely start if Williams is gone when the 2011 season comes rolling around.

Third round (94): Jay Ross, Nose Tackle, East Carolina

Ever heard of Jay Ross before? I bet only a select few of you have heard of this massive nose tackle. After doing some studying on Ross, I am starting to fall in love with this guy. Pat Williams will likely hang up the cleats within the next one to two years. What will that leave Minnesota with at nose tackle? Nothing. At 6'3" and 320 pounds, Ross is a phenom who recently returned a fumble for a touchdown on national television.

Fourth round (125): Joe McKnight, Running Back, USC

Despite only being a junior, I believe that Joe McKnight will declare for the 2010 draft. He will get way less carries when Stafon Johnson likely gets a medical redshirt for this season and comes back next year. When Chester Taylor becomes a free agent, Minnesota will need a running back that can both run the ball and catch it out of the backfield. Joe McKnight is the perfect fit for those two needs.

Fifth round (157): Brandon Sharpe, Defensive End, Texas Tech

Brandon Sharpe is one of the more underrated defensive ends in the entire draft. Many see him as going in the fifth or sixth round. I think that the fifth round is an appropriate spot for him. In eight games, Sharper has 11.5 sacks. He could end up being the eventual starting left end for the Vikings if Ray Edwards decides not to re-sign after year's end.

Sixth round (189): Dan LeFevour, Quarterback, Central Michigan

Dan LeFevour has had a good year at Central Michigan, but he's not going to be a very high pick. Some have him going as high as the fourth round. I have him going in the sixth due to the fact that he's played some very weak opposition this season. If Favre retires, quarterback depth will be desperately needed.

Seventh round (221): Nate Byham, Tight End, Pittsburgh

Not a huge position of need, but something that Minnesota could use depth in. Nate Byham is primarily a blocking tight end. Jimmy Kleinsasser is aging, and has clearly lost a step in his game. Byham will be good for depth. He should play a solid part in the 2011 or 2012 Minnesota Vikings squad.

Read more Brett Favre news on BleacherReport.com

Brett Favre Is a God and the Minneosta Vikings Are the Best Team in the NFL

The Minnesota Vikings played their most complete football game of the year in Week 11 vs. the Seattle Seahawks. The game featured four different receivers catching touchdowns, a solid two-headed running attack, and a defense that didn't allow the Seahawks any breathing room.

Although the Vikings did not score any points in the first quarter, I would like to credit the Seahawks' defense for a job well done on the Vikings potent offense. Mix in some Viking penalties and you have your answer for the scoreless first quarter.

When it came to the second quarter, the Seahawks' weak defense could not hold on anymore, allowing the Vikings to march down the field and score on a drive that started on their own 16 yard line.

The Vikings poured on the points with Favre's precision passing hitting all his different dangerous down-field weapons. Couple that with a punishing running attack that did not only come from Adrian Peterson but also Chester Taylor.

The Vikings did not let an inferior football team hang around long enough to even sniff a victory. Many times, against weaker teams, the Vikings have played with their prey before finishing them off, but that was not the case against the Seahawks.

The Vikings got on the board and never looked back. Forget the first quarter hiccup. Minnesota put the pedal to the metal and played like the best team in the NFL should. That's right, I said it. The Minnesota Vikings are the most COMPLETE team in the NFL and that makes them the BEST team in the NFL.

The Vikings score the ball anyway they want on offense, have a dangerous special teams unit, and have a defense that stacks up with the best in the league. No other team in the NFL can get it done in every category like the Vikings can.

Seven Important Things from the Game

No. 1 The most important thing from this football game was Brett Favre playing like a god. He threw for 213 passing yards by going 22/25. That is the highest completion percentage of his career and the highest in Vikings history. Oh yeah, he also threw four touchdown passes.

It is truly difficult to imagine Favre after all the accomplishments in his career and being virtually the possessor of every single quarterback record in the NFL still breaking records as a 40-year-old. Believe it or not Favre actually has better numbers through Week 11 this year than he did through Week 11 when he won all three of his MVP awards. Higher completion percentage, more touchdowns, less interceptions...as a 40-year-old.

Favre is definitely in the running for a fourth MVP award with how he stacks up to the league's best passers this year. Even though a player besides a quarterback can win it, a quarterback probably will win it this year. Unless Chris Johnson stays on his pace and the Titans rally off 10 straight wins after starting 0-6.

Favre has more than 600 fewer passing yards than Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, who are atop that coveted passing yards list. But you have to expect Manning to get all those passing yards considering Indianapolis rushes for the second fewest yards per game in the NFL averaging a mere 85 yards.

Favre has one less touchdown than the leagues leaders (Brees, Rodgers) with 21 total. He has a 69.7 completion percentage which is only a tenth behind the league leader Peyton Manning.

With Favre being in the top tier of all those passing categories, can you guess where the all time interceptions leader in the NFL stands this season in that very category? No. 1 (minus Shaun Hill who has only attempted 155 passes).

Who would have thought gunslinger Favre would have the fewest interceptions in the entire NFL through 11 weeks? Not I. Even precious Peyton and Drew Brees have nine interceptions this season. When all is said and done, if Favre plays out the season like this, his name should be a major player in the MVP discussion.

No. 2 What a dominating game by the Minnesota defense. The best stat a fan can pull from their performance is holding the Seahawks to only four rushing yards the entire game. With this overwhelming performance, the Vikings are now third on the defensive rushing list only giving up 85.5 yards a game.

Once Seattle realized they wouldn't be rushing the football (they only had 13 attempts) they went to the air where they still could not find a whole lot of success. Nate Burleson had a nice game, but he only racked up yards. No passing touchdowns from the Seahawks.

Seattle was 1-10 on third down conversions which is always important in the NFL. The defense also forced and recovered a fumble and rookie Asher Allen got his first career interception.

A little cause for concern is the two sacks hauled in by Linebacker E.J. Henderson and Safety Husain Abdullah. The Vikings do not blitz too often and that was the only way Hasselbeck was sacked the entire day. No sacks by the D line.

Jared Allen had three Quarterback hits, but the team only had five total (two of those equal sacks). Not the pressure Vikings fans are used to.

No. 3 It was nice to see Chester Taylor get into the rushing attack with AP. Even though neither back finished with over 100 yards, they both were inflicting damage on the Seattle defense with their carries. Especially Taylor who only had 11 carries but netted 73 rushing yards.

It was also nice to see AP catching more passes out of the backfield (he grabbed four). Both backs were productive and that is more than a good sign heading down the stretch of this season.

No. 4 Can I even stress enough how awesome Sidney Rice is? This past week, he just locked his Pro Bowl spot by catching two touchdown passes to give him four total on the season. That was the only stat he was lacking in receiving, and four puts him in the middle of the pack.

He is already fourth in the NFL in receiving yards, and is third in the NFL with catches over 40 yards. The only thing Sidney didn't do this week was have 200 receiving yards, but he made up for it with two touchdowns. The second touchdown he caught from T-Jack was a fine example of a player making a huge play.

No. 5 If one thing seems to remain consistent from week to week, it is that Visanthe Shiancoe catches a touchdown pass, and this week was no different. His seven receiving touchdowns this season are towards the top of the league and second best among Tight Ends (Vernon Davis has eight touchdowns).

Shiancoe was especially valuable in this game catching eight passes and playing the role of Favre's go-to guy in tight situations. Shiancoe works extra hard every week staying after practice catching passes from different angles and speeds. His hard work has payed off.

No. 6 The Vikings' secondary continues to play well in the absence of Antoine Winfield. Despite allowing decent passing numbers from the Seahawks, something has got to give when a team throws it more than two thirds of the time.

The secondary is needed to continue playing well even with the addition of Winfield to the unit in coming weeks. Upcoming on the schedule are the dynamite passing attacks of the Bengals and Cardinals. And you can never count out a man like the Panthers Steve Smith, who can destroy a defense by himself.

No. 7 Haters can hate, but you cannot deny Tarvaris Jackson looking good when he stepped in late in the game. Say what you want about the team we were playing, or the score, but the kid stepped in a got it done. His passes looked accurate with some zip on them. He still looked a little indecisive, but I think Favre's influence has helped him go through his reads better.

Jackson finished 6/8 with 77 pass yards and a touchdown. That is an average of 9.6 yards per pass. This play is just as efficient as Favre. If you are going to give Favre the credit for playing well against a bad team, the same needs to be given to Jackson. I always like to see him have success.

Important Things from Around the League

Which teams are pretenders and which teams are contenders ?

After everyone anointing Dallas the NFC East champions, they barely squeak out a win against an inferior football team in the form of the Washington Redskins. Dallas was only able to muster seven points against a defense that was missing its best player (Haynesworth).

The Cowboys could have easily lost this game if the Redskins kicker Shaun Suisham had not missed two field goals. The Cowboys did win on Thanksgiving, but they played the up and down Raiders. Speaking of the Raiders...

The red hot Cincinnati Bengals cooled off in Oakland as the Raiders toppled to AFC North Division leaders. The Bengals called a conservative game once they had the lead which ended up burning them in the end.

They allowed 10 fourth quarter points while scoring none. Idiot of the Week is the Bengals Andre Caldwell, who fumbled the football on a kickoff with :33 second left on the clock in a tie football game. The Raiders used that fumble to kick the game winning field goal.

The Steelers losing to the lowly Chiefs has to be the upset of the week. With how well the Steelers have been playing it is a shocker to see them lose to the 3-7 Chiefs. Not a surprising loss when you consider the Steelers had three turnovers and gave up a kickoff return touchdown. This is a perfect example of any team in the NFL having the ability to win no matter the opponent.

The Broncos are pretenders (even though they beat the Giants on Thanksgiving, but anyone can beat the Giants these days). The Broncos didn't even show up for a game of utmost importance against the charging Chargers (pun intended). The Chargers demolished the Broncos 32-3 to take the AFC West Division lead.

My biggest question is why even start crappy Chris Simms to destroy any momentum in the game and just start Orton. Once Broncos coach Josh McDaniels realized like the rest of us the Chris Simms is a joke in a NFL jersey, he put in Orton who facilitated some offensive success.

That isn't the only mistake McDaniels made as a coach this past Sunday. He foolishly tried an onside kick only to be recovered by the Chargers who took that field position and easily scored. The Broncos are not for real. The division is the Chargers and Denver is not near good enough to win the Wild Card.

Very quietly, the Jacksonville Jaguars are 6-4. After staring 0-2 it seemed everyone in the NFL counted them out. Now they have rallied off three straight victories. Their upcoming schedule will display their true colors as they face off against the Colts again, the Texans, the Patriots, the 49ers, and the Dolphins. That is a tough five-game stretch. If this team is a force, victories in those games will prove it.

Lastly, I want to take my hat off to Vince Young and the Tennessee Titans. After starting 0-6, the Titans needed to shake things up.

Enter the talented but doubted Vince Young.

Not only has this kid played efficiently to win football games, but he has played great down the stretch to get his team needed yards for first downs making crucial passes and using his legs to rush the ball. I am sure many NFL fans like me are rooting for a nice comeback for this team. With a back like Chris Johnson on your team, you can never count the Titans out.

Read more Brett Favre news on BleacherReport.com

What Makes an NFL MVP?

As the NFL season starts ramping towards its playoff push, award conjectures start to crop up all over the place, especially in article-submitted locales such as Bleacher Report. But what constitutes an MVP? How are arguments and favorites created? What is the ultimate deciding factor?

In other sports it can be much easier to discern, baseball mostly excuses pitchers from MVP voting because of the Cy Young (from 1987 to now only one, Dennis Eckersley in 1992). We can therefore look to the combination of the same four stats each year to p decide it, it is about how a player handles himself at the plate—defense and quality of player interaction don't weigh in heavily. Basketball is similarly placed where an individual talent can be simply looked at statistically and probably determined without ever watching that fellow play.

Football is much tougher. We know weight is given to offense before defense—though it is not impossible for a defensive player to win the award. If things stand as they are at present, Elvis Dummervil of Denver is on pace for 20 1/3 sacks. With a team not particularly thought of as a defensive juggernaut, to go with a better than expected team record, how come this name is not mentioned in MVP circles alongside Jared Allen (and his pace for 16.8 sacks)? Allen is a great player, probably even a better player. Yet with a superior supporting cast he has the weaker numbers.

Ahh well, let us ignore the sack-totals for now. Tackles and interceptions are even more rarely used as a primary tool for deciding a league mvp. This is understandable as the differences in separation have been much smaller. Darren Sharper’s Seven picks are one behind the leader (Jairius Byrd of Buffalo), and his renaissance has been heavily factored into New Orleans defensive improvement.

Tackles are even more difficult with seven guys in a span between 86 and 101 tackles at this point. Though you rarely see the leaders Curtis Lofton (101) and Patrick Willis (96) in any mvp arguments. So we can eliminate tackles as a probable source.

Ultimately the few names in the running on this side of the football just don’t have the absolutely gaudy statistics required to overcome the offensive bias in MVP voting. If Darren Sharper keeps turning his picks into points all on his own, or Jared Allen makes use of his capacity for a monster single game, either one could dark horse into the top five, but none will do better than fourth this year.

Next we stride along to the flash and sizzle of what the NFL wants to sell—offense. This is broken into passing yards/completion percentage/QB rating, receiving yards and receptions, rushing yards/yards per carry, and everyone shares that old favorite, the touchdown.

It would be fine to leave it at that if the award was accredited to the most statistically superior player. Peyton Manning is on pace for 5072 yard to end the year, Brett Favre leads quarterback rating at 112.1, touchdowns are a wash at this point with six guys between 20 and 22. Assuming everyone keeps the same pace they are on it is a matter of Manning’s roughly 1,100 yard advantage (Favre is on pace for 3986) to Favre’s 9.4 point higher rating. This gives Manning the MVP award from a pure statistical outlook.

Except we then have to cope with Chris Johnson and his pace for 1987 yards on the year. As a player who is seeing his rushing totals going up, that could easily end up eclipsing 2,000 which would warrant a statistical argument on his behalf.

The closest competition at running back is from Steven Jackson and Adrian Peterson, both looking to end around the 1,600 yard mark, not enough to dent Manning’s 5,000 or Johnson’s flirtation with 2,000.

Reggie Wayne is the closest wideout statistically, on pace for 120 catches for nearly 1,600 yards with 12.8 TD’s. Should he continue that pace he would statistically keep up with Johnson and Manning.

Now that we have narrowed it to basically three guys, we will take the cold hard facts and start molding them a la voting considerations with the less concrete factors. The media darling-ness is factor number one. Right now the ‘sexy’ teams are the Vikings and Saints, so we look to Jared Allen again, Adrian Peterson again, the silver fox himself, return to Sharper, and now must add Drew Brees into the equation. Sharper is the instant elimination here, he is a great player but not the guy reporters jam mic’s in front of.

Jared Allen is very media friendly. He is the only real chance at a defensive player getting league MVP because of this, Jared Allen sells. Is this enough to outweigh the other factors, probably not but it will get him a few slots higher in total mvp voting than probably warranted. Now we have Adrian Peterson.

He is much more interesting to those with microphones and flashbulbs than Chris Johnson, the Vikes are the team everyone outside of cheeseland are rooting for, and he’s been ‘the guy’ in the purple palace for several years now.

Favre, the final of the Minnesota trio, is media mecca. Whether people love him or hate him, the guy would be a hot media sell even as an average player, throw in the inexplicable year no one would have guessed and you have the recipe for media frenzy. While good sells, the biggest media hurdle in the way of AP or mr. mullet would be Favre, and beyond any other guy, wins the sexy pick here.

After the pure media rigamarole, we also must deal with the fact that past considerations weigh in on present seasons. In the last twelve years there have been only two repeat mvp’s, and both times they were given the title as co-mvps. Ironically two of the main names in consideration, Favre and Manning, are those two players.

Favre’s distant MVP past and troubles last season serve as a benefit to him fro a historical regard. Manning, with another MV award last year, will be hampered on this front. He may also be hurt by the precedent an NFL first fourth MVP award would set.

Drew Brees stands to be helped the most from his past season, where his 5,000 yards were mvp numbers yet he did not take home the award. With media attention ramping up in New Orleans, it would appear he will be able to run close enough to the others in media attention and stats, that this one factor could tilt the bar his way.

Record is another indicator used with MVP’s. Drew Brees ended a monster personal season with an average 8-8 record, the result was a Peyton Manning award. This year Chris Johnson looks to have the best chance of any non quarterback to take home the award, but his Titans are still working out of an 0-6 hole to start the year.

8-8 will be a great accomplishment for the team at this point, but it will not help Chris Johnson’s case for the award. Short of an undefeated 10-6, he falls by the wayside to quarterbacks helming teams looking at deep playoff runs. The Saints, Vikings, and Colts have one loss among the entire group. This astounding number puts in squarely back into the court of Favre/Brees/Manning.

The final, most subjective matter is where would the team be without them ? Given an average replacement guy taking the helm, what would the team do? A name not mentioned yet here, but probably going to crack the top five- Tom Brady, is a good example.

He is a great leader and valuable of course. But if the Patriots go 12-4 this year pundits will hurt his chances with the idea that he only improved the team by one win. Favre is simultaneously helped and hindered by last year.

team will likely improve by a minimum of three games (10-6 to 13-3) probably four. This is significant (and something Brady cannot do). But they still were a division winning playoff team last year with Jackson behind center. The Saints had Drew Brees (and basically the same receiving corps) and put together an 8-8 season.

Peyton Manning is the wildcard. Everything about Indi without him is subjective, he didn’t play elsewhere, he didn’t miss time, and the Colts did fine last year. Yet one must contend that with one team sporting three candidates, neither one of those three is quite as indispensible. With a host of injuries and a turnover at head coach, Manning has continued his winning ways. I do not think a Matt Cassel situation happens in Indi with Peyton Manning on the bench.

Ultimately I think the race will be close between Manning/Brees/and Favre, none of the non-quarterbacks possibilities have enough to catch up to the value (as well as mvp positional bias) that these three present. When it all wraps up, Favre will win comeback player of the year as an attempt at making up for Peyton Manning edging out Drew Brees for his fourth MVP award.

Read more Brett Favre news on BleacherReport.com

Speak Up: Brett Favre on Jay Cutler's Struggles

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre spoke up about Jay Cutler and his play yesterday. Here’s what he had to say:

" I think he’s better [at 26 than I was] at this stage, he’s way more advanced. Physically, he’s got all the tools. But mentally, he’s way more advanced and able to see defenses and read things. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to want to put it all on your shoulders. And I know that’s what he’s thinking.

"The comparisons are his arm strength and trying to do too much, but I know this: Trying to do too much and take it all on your shoulders has worked for me. So continue to do what you’re doing. At times, the better decision would be take a sack, throw it away, whatever. After 19 years, there’s been a lot of those what-ifs or should-have-done-this, but the fact is that I’m still here at 19 years.

"There is no doubt that Jay is a heck of a player. This is a stretch that has been obviously tough on him, but keep shootin’ it. That’s what people are afraid of. They want him to be very cautious, and I know that there are some plays that he probably should have been a little more cautious. I can say the same thing about me. But you’ve got to play the game the way that you know how, and that’s why they made a trade for him. So he’ll be fine.

"I played against those guys for so long, and anytime the Bears would be at .500 or less is a surprise, Lovie’s teams have always been very good. I think they are now. I think once Jay offensively hits his stride and gets some consistency with his receivers and gets on the same page, I think they’re going to be fine.

"I wouldn’t give him any, anything that he wouldn’t know already. I obviously have been in that situation at different times in my career. Now, the fact that he went over to a different team, the way it all kind of went down, obviously I’m a little bit familiar with that. I know for Jay, the expectation level obviously was high, as it would have been high in Denver. It comes with a lot of extra baggage being the star quarterback.

"So I’m sure he felt the pressure as we all should at that position to put up big plays and good numbers, but more importantly, wins. You try to do too much. I know Jay a little bit, but I don’t know him all that well, so it would be unfair for me to sit here and say what he’s thinking or doing or whatever. I think they picked him up for a reason. I think he’s damn good, I think he will be good and he’ll be fine. I know he knows that, and I’m sure to a certain extent that’s what Donovan may have been talking to him about at the end of the game the other day.

"I say, so? Who am I to say Jay’s not having fun or is having fun because his demeanor is different than mine? We all form opinions just by watching someone, the body language, the whatever. It’s obviously unfair. So you make a bad decision, your team loses, or you’re in a tough situation, I don’t see where you should be out there smiling and joking around.

"If they’re 10-0 or whatever, it’s a little bit easier to smile and have a good time. ... They didn’t bring Jay in to smile and smack the ref on the heinie or whatever. They brought him in to win games. Not that I’ve ever done that."

Thomas the Tank Series Announces Development of New Engine Named Brett (Satire)

HiT Entertainment today announced today that they are in the process of developing a new Tank Engine named after Brett Favre.

“The engines have been such wimps lately and we wanted to bring a little NFL attitude into the Thomas the Tank Engine Series,” a company spokesman said. “We figured Brett Favre was the perfect example.”

Brett the Tank Engine will be discovered by Percy in a corn field on the island of Sodor. Brett will have a round face with blades of hay stuck to his chin and cheeks to represent Favre’s stubble look.

At first, Brett and Thompson, oops, Thomas will be enemies because Brett receives all the attention. Thomas thinks Brett is too dramatic, especially after he catches Brett crying because he wants to quit servicing the tourists of Sodor and go back to his corn field.

Brett will also win over the affection of Thomas’ two coaches Annie and Claribel. One day Brett winks at Annie and Clarabel and the two start fighting over him, resulting in a crash that makes Thomas unserviceable.

Sir Topham Hatt asks Brett to replace Thomas and deliver the Christmas presents to the orphanage which makes Thomas cross and gives him a boiler ache.

Brett pulls some pranks on Thomas to loosen him up and convinces him to blow his whistle a little more. Brett eventually grows on Thomas, especially after Brett convinces Sir Topham Hatt to go after Thomas’ friend Hiro when he is available from a competing train company.

Brett will be the most durable engine in the series. In one episode, Brett will go through rain, sleet, snow, and fall through an ice covered lake, but keeps rolling along under water until he finds his way out and back on the track.

Brett also endures endless maintenance problems, but drives on and ultimately becomes Sodor’s MVE (Most Valuable Engine).

Despite his success, Bret continues to tell the other engines that his next run will be his last, prompting the other engines to plead with him to reconsider retiring.

Brett’s color was originally designated to be green with gold stripes, but an unidentified source from HiT entertainment claims that Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf , Head Coach Brad Childres, and Offensive Coordinator Darrell Bevell have been ‘tampering’ with the design process despite the fact that HiT Entertainment wanted to maintain privacy until the color could be publicly announced.

Wilf argues that Emily, a "Stirling Single" engine is already green and gold, but the series does not have a purple engine yet. Ted Thompson, General Manager of the Green Bay Packers, quickly pointed out that Charlie is purple with white stripes, and Rosie is lavender and grey.

The United States Senate is rumored to be pressuring NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to resolve this color dispute quickly. Leading Senate and House Republicans had spent countless hours behind closed doors in debate about this dilemma and are now encouraging Goodell to push for Brett to be a Red, White, and Blue Engine.

Note: Completely Satire, No Evidence of Favre Becoming New Engine

Read more Brett Favre news on BleacherReport.com

QBER/Week 11: Numbers Say MVP Award Is Favre-Fetched Idea

(QBER is short for Quarterback Efficiency Rating, a more comprehensive, easily understood rating system that I devised to place the emphasis where it belongs—on the ability of a quarterback to advance the ball, avoid negative plays, and score touchdowns in comparison to his peers. A rating of 100.0 is the league average.)

It’s too a bit too early for apologies, but the critics who wrote off Brett Favre months ago should be advised to have their my-bad's ready.

Not only is Favre the top-ranked quarterback in the league, according to the most recent QBER calculations, but the longer the season progresses, the better he has been. At a time when 40-year-olds are supposed to slow down, his QBER has improved from 125.1 to 138.1 to 138.5 to 141.6 to 148.2 in the last four weeks.

Can you say Most Valuable Player, boys and girls?

There are several worthy candidates for MVP honors, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning also among them, but Favre should rate as the early favorite for the award. Even though feature Adrian Peterson has been fairly average by his standards, the Vikings own a 9-1 record largely because Favre has stepped up as a highly efficient quarterback and unquestioned team leader.

What stands out about Favre is his ability to avoid negative plays, which is in stark contrast to the later stages of his Green Bay Packers career. In 334 pass plays, he has been guilty of only four turnovers, the best rate in the league. He also accounts for one touchdown per 15.9 pass attempts, which is 75 percent above the league average.

It was in Week 14 of a year ago that Favre began his free-fall because of shoulder problems. His detractors may not like it, but a rerun doesn’t appear to be likely this time around.

The QBER Leaders Through Week Eleven of the Regular Season:

1. Brett Favre 148.2

2. Peyton Manning 134.6

3. Donovan McNabb 130.0

4. Aaron Rodgers 129.3

5. Drew Brees 128.3

6. Tom Brady 127.6

7. Philip Rivers 127.5

8. Matt Schaub 125.3

9. Eli Manning 119.0

10. Kurt Warner 114.5

11. Kyle Orton 114.2

12. Tony Romo 112.4

13. Joe Flacco 110.5

14. Carson Palmer 109.7

15. Ben Roethlisberger 106.6

16. Matt Hasselbeck 104.0

17. Matt Ryan 101.5

18. Matt Cassel 101.4

19. David Garrard 90.0

20. Chad Henne 87.2

21. Jay Cutler 85.8

22. Marc Bulger 82.3

23. Jason Campbell 81.6

24. Matthew Stafford 80.5

25. Trent Edwards 79.3

26. Kerry Collins 78.4

27. Mark Sanchez 59.6

28. Jake Delhomme 57.2

29. JaMarcus Russell 50.1

A Few Observations

If Vince Young isn’t a big fan of the QBER system, then he should be. According the NFL passer rating formula, the Tennessee Titans signal-caller would rank 17th overall if he had the required number of pass attempts—two spots worse than he would on be on the QBER list. The QBER formula credits Young for the 147 yards that he gained on runs off pass plays, while the NFL system ignores them. The Titans haven’t lost since Young regained his starter role, and his improved play has been a primary reason for the turnaround.

Maybe Pete Carroll was right, after all. The Southern California head coach said Mark Sanchez would have been better suited to remain in college one more year, and the numbers support his contention. The New York Jets' rookie has been plagued by turnovers—19 of them. Only Jay Cutler has as many in the league.

While Sanchez has regressed, Detroit Lions rookie Matthew Stafford has headed the other way. His QBER jumped from 58.7 (28th overall) to a semi-respectable 80.5 (24th) in that span. It should be noted that he played against the Cleveland Browns last week.

The play of Philadelphia Eagles veteran Donovan McNabb may be as consistent as any point in his career. His QBER ranking in each of the last six weeks: fourth, fourth, second, third, third, and third.

San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers earned the Mr. Clean Award last week. In 22 pass plays, he did not have a scramble, sack, fumble, or interception.

2010 NFL Mock Draft: Rounds 1 and 2 (With Predicted Trades)

It's for me to once again update my 2010 NFL mock draft.

Not too much has changed since the last time I updated my mock a week ago.

A few teams have moved down in the order of picks and a few teams have moved up a few nothces.

To spice up the pot a little bit, I will be adding predicted trades that could very well end up happening during the draft.

As always, the order of picks are based on the teams current record and where I think they'll finish at the end of the season.

Don't see a player you think should be in there? Let me know about it.

I love all feedback and arguments. Tell me what you think of your teams pick(s).
Begin Slideshow

NFL Predictions: Week Twelve

It's Week Twelve of the NFL season, and it's also Thanksgiving week.

In the past years, there has always been two games on this holiday, which usually were just the Lions at home against their opponent and the Cowboys and their opponent, which is fine because it is tradition, but lately, those games haven't been as great, so the league added a third game at night on the NFL Network, which generally has been a better game of the day.

So if you are at your family's house and you don't like your relatives, or if you do and are looking for something to do aside from eating turkey and turkey sandwiches, there is football all Thanksgiving day long.

Last week in Week Eleven, I had a great week going 14-2 with the only losses coming from the Steelers and Bengals. Overall in the 2009 season, I am 114-45 and looking to continue the good record.

Thursday Thanksgiving Football: Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions

These two teams have met in the past on Thanksgiving, two years ago in fact. Brett Favre and Jon Kitna were the respective quarterbacks for those teams.

Now it's Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford starting for their teams and looking to continue the tradition.

However, Stafford got hurt last week and his status for the game is unknown, so Daunte Culpepper or Drew Stanton might be playing on this night.

But it doesn't matter, because the Packers are on a roll and possibly could be a playoff team. Rodgers has the Packers headed in the right direction with multiple 300-plus yard games.

With a banged up team, the Lions might not be able to stand up to the Packers and this one could be over quickly.

Final Score: Packers 37, Lions 20

Thursday Thanksgiving Football: Oakland Raiders @ Dallas Cowboys

Be careful with this game, because it might not be as lopsided as it looks.

The Raiders finally benched JaMarcus Russell for Bruce Gradkowski and they won their last game and will look to make it two in a row with a quarterback that seems to care about playing and winning, something Russell never showed.

The Cowboys are coming in this game extremely banged up. Tony Romo's got a bad back and Jason Witten has a bad foot and both are listed as questionable, although most expect Romo to play, but not so much with Witten.

Over their last two games, Dallas has only scored a total of 14 points and nearly lost their last game. If they only score seven points again, they might not get away with another win.

Dallas usually plays well on Turkey Day and they should be able to pull a win off.

Final Score: Cowboys 24, Raiders 14

Thursday Thanksgiving Football: New York Giants @ Denver Broncos

This one will be on the NFL Network, but for most in the New York/New Jersey area like I am, if you don't have that channel, it will be played on WPIX-11, so it will be on TV locally.

The Broncos have lost four in a row and are sliding bad. They are also fighting among each other and Brandon Marshall seems to be going back to his selfish and destructive ways, fighting with teammates and blaming others for losing when he isn't getting the ball.

The Giants ended their losing streak with a huge win last week and are looking to get back into the playoff race. Denver is having trouble stopping everyone, so this may be a game where Brandon Jacobs can run over players and with Ahmad Bradshaw likely out, Danny Ware will get some playing time.

This will also be Eli Manning's first game on Thanksgiving. Manning should have no problems getting the Giants to win on the road despite the short week.

Final Score: Giants 30, Broncos 13

Carolina Panthers @ New York Jets

It seems so long ago when the Jets were 3-0 and Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez were living large.

Now at 4-6, it's not the case anymore. Ryan's been humbled some in his rookie season as head coach, but Sanchez has not, he still thinks he's the USC god back in California. If he keeps throwing all those interceptions, he might find himself on the bench real soon.

The Panthers have been up and down all 2009 season.

They get so close to getting to .500 and then they will lose a game and stay under .500, which must be frustrating for John Fox.

You would think the Jets would have the advantage being at home against a losing team, but they lost games to the Jaguars, Bills and Dolphins at home, so the Jets aren't guaranteed to win.

This one I think will come down to a late field goal, and I don't trust the Jets anymore.

Final Score: Panthers 24, Jets 21

Indianapolis Colts @ Houston Texans

If you're a betting person, never, ever bet against Peyton Manning, because he finds ways to win.

Just like last week when the Colts somehow managed to win and get to 10-0 in another close game.

But the tough games on the road don't stop for the Colts, as they take on an opponent from the AFC South division.

The Texans lost their last home game on Monday night with a missed field goal and was devastating to take. Houston will be looking to get over that loss and come out strong against their division foes.

Houston always plays the Colts well, as they did earlier in the season. But like I said before, never pick against the Colts, and neither will I again this week.

Final Score: Colts 28, Texans 20

Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles

The Redskins are trying everything they can to win games, and came close against the Cowboys, but fell short.

Washington has a good defense, which has kept them in a lot of games, but their offense is dreadful. With Clinton Portis out again and with Chris Cooley done for the season, it gets worse for Washington in 2009.

The Eagles snapped their two game losing streak and got back on track. DeSean Jackson is becoming a dangerous weapon downfield for the Eagles and it almost seems like he is un-coverable because of his speed.

Most shouldn't count on Brian Westbrook playing in this game due to his severe concussions. Some don't even expect Westbrook back in 2009, which would be a shame.

Washington has yet to win a game on the road, and nobody expects them to win this week either.

Final Score: Eagles 27, Redskins 9

Seattle Seahawks @ St. Louis Rams

I'm not going to lie to you guys, this game is not exactly a great one. Both teams stink.

The only problem is, Seattle isn't supposed to be this bad. They have Matt Hasselbeck healthy, but even he can only do so much.

The running game isn't great. The passing game is mediocre. The defense has been bad.

But, they are playing a 1-9 team who is even worse.

St. Louis will be without Marc Bulger, who has several injuries. But even with him Bulger has been awful in 2009.

If you're not a diehard fan of either team, I wouldn't suggest watching. But Seattle is a little better and should be able to win this game.

Final Score: Seahawks 20, Rams 7

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Atlanta Falcons

This is a battle between NFC South rivals, but it won't have the same intensity like it has in the past.

Tampa is 1-9 and they keep on trying to get better. They think they found their quarterback in rookie Josh Freeman, but he's taking his rookie pains in a tough season.

The Falcons suffered a tough loss last week and dropped to 5-5 in the NFC playoff race, despite sending the game into overtime.

Atlanta is a better team at home and needs to get back on track with a win. With or without Michael Turner, the Falcons still have weapons to use.

This one might be on Matt Ryan, and he should be able to win against Tampa this week.

Final Score: Falcons 31, Buccaneers 13

Cleveland Browns @ Cincinnati Bengals

This is the second meeting of the Ohio battle.

Cleveland came so close to their second win, but because they are the Browns, found a way to lose another game despite scoring over 30 points.

Brady Quinn played much better last week, so maybe he's not a total bust.

The Bengals lost to the Raiders last week. Not good. They need this division matchup to win all six games of the AFC North division match games.

Cedric Benson was out last week and is listed as questionable, but Bernard Scott has done a great job in Benson's place.

Cleveland sucks and Cincinnati is possibly playoff bound. Guess who wins here?

Final Score: Bengals 30, Browns 10

Miami Dolphins @ Buffalo Bills

Whoever said the Dolphins were dead in 2009 might be wrong, because at 5-5, they have a shot to make something of their season.

They lost Ronnie Brown for the season, but Ricky Williams is showing he's got plenty left for Miami.

Chad Henne is improving each week and showing everyone he deserves to be the starter. However, with Miami's Wildcat formation, expect Pat White to play because of Brown's injury.

Buffalo finally got the ball to Terrell Owens last week, as he almost had 200 yards receiving, and yet, the Bills lost.

Buffalo is not the team they once were that dominated the AFC 10-15 years ago. Even Bill Cowher turned down an offer to interview for their coaching vacancy.

Final Score: Dolphins 24, Bills 16

Jacksonville Jaguars @ San Francisco 49ers

This game means a lot more for the Jaguars than it does for the 49ers, because a win for Jacksonville and they find themselves right in the mix for the AFC playoff race.

After an up and down season, the Jaguars are winning, and they've put their faith solely in Maurice Jones-Drew, who has carried this team in 2009.

Jones-Drew has been nothing short of MVP-like in 2009 and has been the reason why the Jaguars are winning and at 6-4 right now.

The 49ers are still trying to find an identity, but they are at least making their games competitive, especially with Michael Crabtree active and playing very well.

With Crabtree, it has given Alex Smith a second chance to be the leader of this team, along with another target to throw to aside from Vernon Davis.

But, Jacksonville needs this game more and are riding a three game winning streak to continue their chase for postseason football.

Final Score: Jaguars 28, 49ers 21

Kansas City Chiefs @ San Diego Chargers

The Chiefs somehow managed to knock off the defending champion Steelers at home in overtime, which is a huge accomplishment for a team that hasn't been great in 2009.

But that was at home, and they're back on the road, where they aren't a great football team.

Even worse, they are playing the Chargers, who are on a five game winning streak and are getting back to playing solid football.

LaDanian Tomlinson has become a big part of the offense again and showing the league that he isn't washed up, and since the Chiefs can't stop the run, LT might have another decent game.

The Chargers have control of the AFC West and are at home. San Diego should have no problems winning this game.

Final Score: Chargers 34, Chiefs 17

Arizona Cardinals @ Tennessee Titans

Because of the Titans playing better football, it makes this game a decent contest to watch.

Arizona is starting to become a more complete team after being only known as a passing team in 2008.

They are running the football more with Beanie Wells and Tim Hightower and the defense is stepping up and playing much better.

So with those two factors added in with the powerful offense of Arizona, that makes them scary to stop. The only question is, does Kurt Warner play with the concussion or does Matt Leinart get a start?

Tennessee has won four in a row and they can thank that on the magnificent play of Chris Johnson, who is leading the league in rushing yards.

Vince Young is playing well too and deserving of a second chance as a starter.

As much as Tennessee has played well, Arizona's offense might be too much for the Titans defense to stop.

Final Score: Cardinals 38, Titans 24

Chicago Bears @ Minnesota Vikings

So, Jay Cutler was supposed to be the savior for the Bears in 2009, right?

Only problem is Cutler is throwing way too many interceptions in games and costing them chances to win.

On the other side, the Vikings have been one of the best teams in 2009 and one of the most complete teams.

Their offense lead by Brett Favre has been solid, but their defense lead by Jared Allen is the best in the NFL.

Lately, Cutler's confidence has been lacking each week. With a defense like Minnesota that swarms the quarterback, Cutler will be in for a long day in the Metrodome.

Minnesota is so much better than Chicago and should have no problems going to 10-1.

Final Score: Vikings 34, Bears 16

Sunday Night Football: Pittsburgh Steelers @ Baltimore Ravens

This is a re-match of the AFC Championship game and another meeting of the AFC North rivals.

In 2008, the Steelers won both regular season games and the AFC Title game on their road to winning the Super Bowl.

The Steelers have been very banged up. Troy Polamalu is questionable with an injured knee. Pittsburgh's defense needs Polamalu back if they want to end their two game slide. Ben Roethlisberger also suffered a concussion last week, but is expected to play.

The Ravens once started out 3-0, but are 2-5 over their last several games and don't look like the same AFC powerhouse on defense that used to scare teams because they have lost too many games in 2009.

With Roethlisberger, the Steelers should be able to pull off a victory in Baltimore, but it won't be easy and could come down to a late score.

Final Score: Steelers 27, Ravens 24

Monday Night Football: New England Patriots @ New Orleans Saints

This very well may be the best game on the schedule. If you like offensive games with a lot of points, this game is for you. If you like defense, don't expect it here, because this one will light up the boards.

The Patriots have been playing much better football and have gotten the passing game going with Tom Brady. With Wes Welker healthy and combine him with Randy Moss, Brady is back to being his old self.

The Saints are 10-0 and steam-rolling through the NFC. They have blown out teams and they have also shown they can come back from being down in games, a good quality of a playoff team.

Drew Brees has done a great job in making his wide receivers have tremendous seasons in 2009, especially Marques Colston, maybe the most underrated top receiver in the NFL.

In the past, the Patriots defense could stop New Orleans. Not anymore. They give up too many points, which in the end favors Brees and company. But this one will be worth watching and enjoying.

Final Score: Saints 42, Patriots 35

That does it for the schedule and picks for Week Twelve of the NFL season.

Everyone, from my family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your holiday and time with your family and loved ones. Also, for those who do Black Friday shopping, be safe over the weekend and during that crazy time.

See you back this weekend for more exciting NFL football games that start on the holiday.

Read more Brett Favre news on BleacherReport.com

As It Stands, Brett Favre Is NFL's MVP

If we remove all biases and opinions, I feel that we have finally come to the point in the NFL season" target="_blank">2009 NFL season , at least for now, that Brett Favre is without a doubt the front-runner for the MVP award.

You can hate him. You can love him. You can respect him, and you can be sick to death of hearing his name.

But one things is for certain—you can't ignore the season he and his team are having.

You can make arguments for his teammate, Adrian Peterson. You could easily say that Peyton Manning is deserving, that Drew Brees has been solid, and that because Favre isn't undefeated, he can't win the award over either of the aforementioned quarterbacks.

Hell, when it's all said and done, if Aaron Rodgers can will his Green Bay Packers into the playoffs, as well as keep his ridiculous numbers up, perhaps he will be the league's MVP .

Or if Chris Johnson can keep doing what he's done, maybe he's the guy.

Perhaps. Maybe. Let's wonder about it.

But it's Week 12. This is right now. I'm talking about which guy in this league makes his team the best; who's team would be lost without him.

Surely, you can make a strong case for any of the mentioned stars, and there are likely another handful of strong candidates. But in a numbers league, Favre is crushing everybody.

Before you scoff at my proposal and litter the world with petty comments about a 40-year old quarterback being an insane MVP nominee, take notice of the facts at hand.

Brett Favre and his Minnesota Vikings are 9-1. That makes for the second-best record in the entire league, with the Vikings only loss coming to the very respectable (and reigning NFL champion) Pittsburgh Steelers.

So, just for argument's sake, let's lay down the ground rules.

MVP Qualifications

-Team has to have a winning record

-Player has to be having a great statistical season

-Player has to be MVP of own team before being considered for league

Check, check, and check. Again, you can debate for Peterson, but without Favre, at least considering the magical performances his team needed to win in a few games, this team would have a very different identity.

Alas, I digress.

Favre is second in the league with 21 touchdown passes, just one away from Drew Brees.

Favre is second in the league in completion percentage (barely), falling just .1 percentage shy of Peyton Manning at 69.7 percent.

Favre also ranks in the top 15 in passing yards, yards per completion average, attempts, and completions.

He ranks near the middle of the league in sacks taken, and leads all starting quarterbacks who have thrown over 200 passes in 2009 with just three interceptions, while also losing just one fumble all season.

While all these numbers are great and easily put Favre in the conversation of being MVP for the fourth time, it's his passer rating that leaves the greatest impression.

His 112.1 passer rating is tops in the league, beating out Drew Brees by seven points, and Manning by 10.

Enough now? Well, after looking at Favre's team record, his stats, and his performance rating, it's very logical to still, once again, point back to Manning and Brees being very close to Favre in the main categories, while also having their teams at 10-0.

But we're not taking everything into consideration , are we?

That little thing that Favre always got in trouble for (turnovers), aren't weighing him (or his team) down this season, while Manning and Brees have both thrown nine interceptions a piece, and Brees has lost four fumbles on the season.

And if this information hasn't proven Favre's case, consider the manner and style in which he and his team have performed over the course of the season:

-Favre's game-winner against the San Francisco 49ers

-His happy-go-lucky style of play

-His two emotional wins over his former team, the Green Bay Packers

While everyone is promoting Tom Brady, Cedric Benson, and others for Comeback Player of the Year, and many others are looking over Favre for the MVP consideration, I suggest a serious glance at old number four for both .

In a season, and career, where Favre has made a habit of over-coming odds, breaking records, and shocking his fans and haters, why stop now ?

Vikings' Success In '09: More Than Just Arrival Of Brett Favre

On paper, the Minnesota Vikings are behind Indianapolis and New Orleans as the top team in the league. On the field, you can easily see that those are just numbers.

New Orleans and Indianapolis leave Week 11 undefeated, though in recent weeks have come close to getting their first loss of the season. Minnesota, 9-1, defeated Seattle 35-9 during Week 11. Brett Favre finished that game 22/25, 213 yards and four touchdowns.

Minnesota lost to Pittsburgh 27-17 during Week Seven, their only loss of the season. That was the only game this season that they failed to score more than 27 points. The Vikings have undoubtedly taken their other opponents to school, having only four of their nine wins with less then a 14-point deficit.

So, how has Minnesota been so good this year compared to last year? You could look at the major difference between the 2008 and 2009 Vikings, and that's future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre. But the success of the Minnesota Vikings this season goes way farther then just the arrival of Brett Favre.

Although, I will admit the addition of Favre has been huge for this offense and gave this team the leadership needed to make this a Super Bowl contending franchise.

First, look at the guys that Minnesota already had before Favre. Adrian Peterson, arguably the best player in the league, defensive-linemen Jared Allen, Kevin Williams and Pat Williams, arguably the best defensive line in the league, and Steve Hutchinson, arguably the best offensive-lineman in the league.

Also, let's not forget guys like offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie, linebacker EJ Henderson, cornerback Antoine Winfield, and receiver Bernard Berrian that helped lead this team to the playoffs last season before getting knocked out by the Philadelphia Eagles.

The emergence of receiver Sidney Rice has made a huge impact on this offense, giving Favre his go-to-guy. Rice has caught 50 passes for 875 yards and four touchdowns this season after catching 46 passes for 537 yards in his first two seasons. Everyone knew he had the potential to be a big-time receiver, and this season he finally broke out to become Minnesota's number one receiver.

Another big time player added this offseason was receiver Percy Harvin, who was selected 22nd overall in this summer's draft. His speed and quickness gives this team a dominant play maker as a kick returner, receiver, and running back. When drafted, it was obviously he would fit perfectly into this system. He has had at least one touchdown in six of this seasons' 11 games.

With the guys Minnesota already had on their roster, Brett Favre was able to come in and give hope and leadership to a team that was desperate for a reliable quarterback. Now that they have one, every player on this team got better, some more then others.

So, to give Favre all the credit for the Vikings' success this season wouldn't be fair, although he has had an effect on the guys that have emerged into stars this season. The guys that this team has is enough for just a decent quarterback to come in and find success.

Brett Favre Finally Has His Kind of Receivers

Brett Favre has some amazing records. His most impressive record is his ironman consecutive games started streak. Unfortunately the NFL doesn’t have statistics to measure the success of a quarterback without elite wide receivers, but if they did, Favre would be in a league by himself—until this year.

Sterling Sharpe, Robert Brooks, Antonio Freeman, Donald Driver, Javon Walker, Greg Jennings … all successful wide receivers. Out of the six, only Sharpe could be categorized as an elite wide receiver and he was forced out of the league by a neck injury in 1994 just as Favre was starting to understand the game.

The others were good, but wouldn't be considered elite, especially without Favre. All have benefited from being excellent route and open field runners in a predictable West Coast offensive system. Nothing wrong with that, and with the Packers, Favre did a nice job of executing this style of play calling, even if it didn't meet his strengths as a quarterback.

But unlike Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, Favre never had a Randy Moss, Marvin Harrison, or Reggie Wayne. Maybe this is why Favre was adamant about the Packers signing Randy Moss when he was available as a free agent.

Favre has never been the most accurate passer, but he has been the one NFL quarterback that could throw the ball in the close vicinity of his wide receivers anywhere on the field.

This was due to his exceptional arm strength and his ability to throw the ball without leading his left foot. Favre’s sandlot quarterback style combined with his pocket awareness relies heavily on wide receivers to “win the battle” for any ball thrown in their direction—even if they are surrounded by three defenders.

And why shouldn’t he expect wide receivers to win? Most of them have three or more inches on secondary defenders, are considered to be expert pass catchers if they are in the NFL, and are paid millions to do their job—which is catching the ball.

Favre’s is also exceptional at leading his wide receivers. That is, anticipating where they will be and putting the ball ahead of them on the move. Donald Driver is excellent at being led, but was often put in the flanker position during Favre’s time with the Packers, and this called for the wide receiver to run a specific route as the first check down.

Favre’s deceptive ability to avoid the sack often times forced him to place the ball high. This happened more frequently with the Packers and rarely with the Vikings because the Packers never had an offensive line to buy Favre enough time in the pocket.

Favre expected his wide receivers to out-jump the defenders to get the ball if they had any chance. In most cases, the wide receiver does have a chance with Favre throwing the ball. Out of the six wide receivers listed above, only one was able to consistently win “jump balls.” That was Javon Walker and his time in the NFL expired quickly due to injury and attitude.

A lack of elite wide receivers unable to be led by Favre or “win battles” may be the primary reason Favre threw so many interceptions with the Packers, and so few this year.

The Packer system has and still does rely on receivers running crisp routes and catching the ball with their feet on the grass, while hoping for yards after the catch, YAC.

With the Vikings, Favre has two wide receivers in Sidney Rice and Percy Harvin who were elite wide receivers coming out of college. Only Sterling Sharpe can claim that for Favre’s Packer wide receivers.

With a considerable drop-off in quarterback accuracy in the college game, elite wide receivers in the NCAA were proven studs that could beat any cornerback for the ball. Rice and Harvin have the skills to be elite in the NFL and are proving it under Favre.

Rice and Harvin not only use their athleticism to out-jump defenders, but they also motor across the field and will stretch out to catch a pass that leads them.

Favre loves to lead because he knows that a 3-step/5-step “drop and throw” is unrealistic in the NFL. Improvising equals the necessity to lead wide receivers after all check-downs have been shut-down.

Without Favre, Vikings head coach Brad Childress was forced to use his check-downs religiously and good defenders can cover possession wide receivers. Favre’s ability to improvise, throw anywhere on the field, and expectations—if not demands that his receivers win the battle allows Rice and Harvin to reach their potential.

One could also argue that Favre has never had an offensive line like he does with the Vikings, and that also helps. But Favre has always been able to get the ball close to his wide receivers when forced to move in the pocket. It was up to them to do their job and make the catch.

With Rice and Harvin, Favre finally has wide receivers that can do that.

Read more Brett Favre news on BleacherReport.com
