Horsepower and Manpower: The Greatest Dynasties in Motorsports

This coming Sunday, it looks as though a new chapter in motorsports will be written. For 61 years, there has never been one driver, with one team, to win four consecutive titles. However, when the checkered flag waves at Homestead-Miami Speedway, the possibility of that happening will look to become a reality.

With all the hype that is going around Jimmie Johnson, it got me wondering what it takes to become a dynasty in the world of motorsports. The fact is, not many have actually taken place.

It is tough enough to succeed in the sport, let alone become a dynasty, but there have been drivers and teams that have successfully proved everyone wrong.

So, as we embark on a very historic moment in motorsports, I thought it would be appropriate to look back at some of the greatest dynasties in motorsports.
Begin Slideshow

Kimi Raikkonen To Race for Mercedes in 2010

A reputable source on Brazilian SporTV has stated that Kimi Raikkonen has finalized a deal to race for the new Mercedes Grand Prix outfit for 2010.

He is reported to have finalized the deal on the same day that Button finalized his deal with McLaren.

This news, if accurate puts to rest the rumors of Kimi taking a sabbatical in 2010. His main requirement was to be in a car which he thinks is capable of fighting for the title and with the success of Ross Brawn's outfit in 2009, there is much reason to believe that the newly named team will be capable of defending the titles they achieved in 2010.

The credibility of the source behind this news has been proved various times this year so look out for the news to hit the English medium shortly!

Read more Ferrari news on BleacherReport.com

So Long Kimi, and Thanks for All the Fish

I'm a little numb right now—still can't believe that this is really happening.

After talks fell through with McLaren, Kimi Raikkonen is sitting out the 2010 Formula One season.

So Luca di Montezemolo wasn't just saying that Ferrari will have the strongest drivers next year...

Looks like the Button-McLaren move is imminent. With Kimi out of the picture, my loyalties and instinct say that the Massa-Alonso combo will kick the asses of Hamilton-Button, provided Ferrari doesn't self-destruct first.

My predictions: WCC - Ferrari, WDC - Hamilton.

I'm not sad for Kimi, I believe he could have gotten a drive if he really wanted to. This all just means he feels he would be much happier doing something else. Some say it's the salary demands, others say it's his motivation. Well, the guy doesn't need to prove anything to anyone, so speculate all you want.

But I am completely upset that I won't get to see Kimi on track next season. It's just...different.

Will Kimi be back to F1 in 2011? Theoretically, Mark Webber's seat at Red Bull would be available then, but who knows what one year away from F1 would do to you? And we all knew what happened the last time a Finn took a sabbatical.

Bye Kimi, thanks for all the great races and memories.

I look forward to supporting you in the next stage of your career.

Read more Ferrari news on BleacherReport.com
