Top 10 College Football Teams After Week 2

     1. Georgia Bulldogs

The most talented football team in the NCAA, but with Jeff Owens injured, players getting in trouble, and playing in a competitive SEC, it may just be a matter of time before they lose their prestige, and a trip to the BCS championship.

     2. Ohio State Buckeyes

The second most talented team in football, but they struggled against the spread offense last weekend, which will be a clear advantage to Illinois. If Jim Tressel doesn't address that weakness, it may be a while before he gets another BCS championship under his belt.

     3. USC Trojans

USC still looks impressive with their huge victory over Virginia. But I saw Virginia struggle against the Richmond Spiders this weekend. As powerful as they appeared last week, they might as well played a Division 1-AA team like Richmond.

     4. Florida Gators

I was impressed by the Miami (FL) defense against the versatile Urban Meyer offense. But I think the joke was on me when I saw Florida close out the game with 17 points in the fourth quarter. Very funny, Mr. Meyer, I almost thought the Gators were overrated, you caught me red-handed.

     5. Oklahoma Sooners

Sophomore Sam Bradford succeeded through the air when skeptics questioned his ability to get things done without Malcolm Kelly against an underrated Cincinnati team. I'm convinced they belong in my top 10, as they should win the Big 12 this year.

     6. Texas Longhorns

Texas is getting down to business as usual. They've walked over their opponents this season and our looking good, despite losing Jamaal Charles and Limas Sweed. If they can stay on track, they could have a great year.

     7. Wisconsin Badgers

I like my Bucky Badgers, after Marshall scored the first 14 points againt them, they came back and scored 51 straight points after the first quarter. Simply impressive. Seniors Matt Shaunnessy, Travis Beckum and Allan Evridge lead the Badgers in the easy Big 10 this year.

     8. Alabama Crimson Tide

After blowing out the Clemson Tigers with arguably the "best" backfield with Spiller and Davis, and Draft prospects Cullen Harper and Aaron Kelly, limiting them to zero offensive touchdowns is worth this ranking.

     9. Texas Tech Red Raiders

With Graham Harrell and Michael Crabtree forming the most dynamic duo in college football this season, and in contention for the Heisman Trophy, they deserve to be No. 9, and they have also built up a defense this year, so they'll be very tough to stop.

     10. Missouri Tigers

Another Heisman hopeful, QB Chase Daniel, guides Mizzou into this season as Jeremy Maclin, Chase Coffman and William Moore hope to lead them to another bowl game. Unfortunately, I wasn't too impressed by their struggle against Illinois and inability to stop the Illini spread offense, led by Juice Williams.

College Football's Top 25 Team Rankings After Week One

Here's my top 25 list of college football teams as of Sept. 5, 2008.

Can't wait to see what happens this week; I like Clemson in the top 25 as there is too much talent to leave them unranked. Fresno State is very underrated with Ryan Matthews Jr., Tom Brandstater, and Bear Pascoe solidifying a great offense that ran over Rutgers last week. Go Bucky, he's my boy.

Ohio State (1-0)

USC (1-0)

Georgia (1-0)

Florida (1-0)

Oklahoma (1-0)

LSU (1-0)

West Virginia (1-0)

Missouri (1-0)

Auburn (1-0)

Wisconsin (1-0)

Texas Tech (1-0)

Texas (1-0)

Kansas (1-0)

South Florida (1-0)

Oregon (1-0)

Alabama (1-0)

Wake Forest (1-0)

Fresno State (1-0)

Arizona State (1-0)

Illinois (1-0)

UCLA (1-0)

Clemson (0-1)

BYU (1-0)

Penn State (1-0)

Utah (1-0)

College Football Prediction: Ohio State Wins 2009 BCS Championship

It was two years ago when LSU draft-eligible juniors Glenn Dorsey, Early Doucet, and many others held out on the 2007 NFL Draft. The school had a great core of talent, and decided to stick together to make a run at a BCS championship...which it won.

The same thing happened in men's basketball, when Kansas kept its players from the NBA Draft in 2007 and went on to win; conversely, Memphis lost star Rodney Carney in the draft two years ago and lost out on an NCAA championship.

Now it's Ohio State football's turn to make a champion out of that recipe.

The 2009 class of NFL Draft senior prospects—Malcolm Jenkins, James Laurinaitis, Marcus Freeman, Brian Robiskie, Alex Boone, and Todd Boeckman—have been a core part of an Ohio State team that has dominated the NCAA season, developed great chemistry, and lost the big one, twice. Junior Chris "Beanie" Wells has been nothing but teased into being a champion, considered a Heisman hopeful, with two championship scars in his heart with the "shoulda" and "coulda been" statements for his team.

Much like in Wells' heart, there is angst and madness among these players to regain their proclaimed respect as one of the best in the land, not one of the "worst," as they are slowly gaining on one of the most notorious reputations in the NCAA as the most "un-clutch" team in college football. It's to the point it's rivaling the Super Bowl sucker Buffalo Bills in the 1990s.

OSU's basketball team has not helped the cause while losing the big one, as well, making things worse.

In January of 2009, we'll see a BCS championship that will have former USC quarterback Carson Palmer eating his own words, as a testament to the future of the NCAA season this year, with the BCS Championship between Ohio State and USC, two great rivals.

The Ohio State core of seniors will have two great defenses headed by Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing against Beanie Wells, with Marcus Freeman and James Laurinaitis against Joe McKnight, and Mark Sanchez against Malcolm Jenkins. This will be a defensive battle as the Buckeyes will prove they are the champions, and can be considered the best team in college football in 2008.

Both of these teams play in favorable conferences to get them into a bowl game, anything not named the SEC or Big 12. The young Ohio State core of talent will win this game by a slim margin, but by an emotional margin with a history of losing and a heart full of revenge, and Palmer will cry at home as he watches those around him rise to the occasion cheering for the Buckeye faithful.

Oklahoma is a good contender for this championship, but with Missouri, Texas, Texas Tech, and Kansas in its conference, it will get tested in every possible way. With Oklahoma losing its past four bowl games, that won't look too good on the resume if the Sooners are in contention to be in the championship game.

When considering Florida and Georgia to be in the championship, they are going to get beat up in the SEC. I can't remember how many games LSU played in overtime. Even when it was the best team in bowl season, the SEC got the best of it. Though I do love Knowshon Moreno and Matthew Stafford, they have high expectations to win it all, and every team Georgia plays against will want to take a bite out of their glory.

Bow to Jim Tressel, and Beanie Wells, 2008 Heisman Trophy winner.

2009 Big Board; Top 30 College Football Seniors

In college football, we can notice that it's very hard to predict underclassman going into the NFL Draft, and so rather than spending ridiculous amounts of time making the conclusions of a player returning to school or going in the draft, we're going to rank the top 25 players that will for sure be in this year's NFL draft.

At that, I believe veteran leadership for these teams deserve a lot of respect for what they do for their teams, and how they're breaking records for their schools. Some appreciation and recognition to those who truly wear their school colors until graduation get my respect on my big board.

    1. Eugene Monroe OT Virginia

Why San Francisco 49er's Will Be Better Than The Raiders This Season

I think it's important to note that first and foremost, boo Raiders! Boo!

Now that I've gotten that out of my system, I'm eager to see how Darren McFumble is going to help a team that averaged the 6th most rushing yards/game with Michael Bush to return as well. Seriously do you have nothing better to do with over five million dollars salary to go from the 6th to the 3rd, 2nd or 1st most rushing yards/game?

Most teams address their weaknesses in the offseason, like the San Francisco 49ers. In Oakland we address our running and pass defense which are already top 10 in the NFL.

Now that I'm done bashing the Raider faithful, I like the looks of the San Francisco 49ers, who are now being led by Mike Martz who at one point made Marc Bulger, Jon Kitna, and Kurt Warner have arms that might of been considered pro bowl worthy.

Even Jon Kitna behind an offense that was #1 in sacks managed to put together an efficient and effective offense. Imagine what can happen in San Francisco with their youth at offensive line, an investment that has paid dividends to the Green Bay Packers making Ryan Grant and Brett Favre put up phenomenal numbers.

Even if Alex Smith hasn't shown up well, his offensive line will continue to improve, as will his receivers, as will his understanding of the QB position. Even if Alex Smith somehow fails to become the QB he was hoped to be, Shaun Hill has shown the ability to handle backup, and perhaps challenge Smith for the starting job, and is a good precaution if their o-line fails to keep their backfield healthy like last season.

San Francisco has also added veteran receiver Isaac Bruce to help the young and talented receivers Ashley Lelie, and Bryant Johnson, who have shown signs of great athleticism to be NFL stars. Something that Isaac Bruce might know a thing or two about, who is also experienced with Mike Martz's system when they won the super bowl under Martz's offense being their go to receiver at that time.

Combined with a one two rushing combination with DeShaun Foster and Frank Gore, who still manages to produce good numbers behind a horrible o-line, and now has insurance in case he gets injured.

At that, Mike Nolan is a known defensive oriented coach who has improved their defense by adding DE Justin Smith, and LB Takeo Spikes, with rookie spectacle Patrick Willis, and rookie first round talent DT Kentwan Balmer. At that first round LB Manny Lawson tore his ACL in his sophomore season after coming off to a hot start last season.

Cornerback Walt Harris showed his ability to still play well by putting up eight INT's two years ago and Nate Clements putting up four INT's last season. Their defense has all around ability to be efficient, as does their offense.

When all is said and done with the 49ers, they've addressed many of their needs to have a chance at winning six games next season, while I watch Oakland just add to their strengths and forget the idea of having a defense stop the run. I don't blame Javon Walker for considering retirement with his future with the Oakland Raiders, I'm not sure if I would want to play for a losing team either.

At least San Francisco wants to win and has made a lot of changes this season to prove that they aren't a complete bust that can't compete in the NFL. Oakland show me what you got, because I know San Francisco is going to be the real deal in the next couple of years and can at least compete for a division title, I wish Oakland could say that much.

Top 10 NFL Teams in 2008

1. New England Patriots

New England has lost Randall Gay, Asante Samuel, Donte Stallworth and Junior Seau, but they still have the talent to make a clear challenge at being the best team in the NFL. This is more complemented by having the easiest schedule, but Bill Belichick never fails to deliver a postseason team. Though they are the clear-cut No. 1 team, Dallas may give them a run for their money.

2. Dallas Cowboys

This is the most challenging team in the NFC. Tony Romo's second full year at starting QB, Tank Johnson in his first full season at nose tackle after adjusting to the 3-4 Dallas defense last year, and veteran leadership from Zach Thomas with DeMarcus Ware. Combined with the depth and talent at corner with Adam Jones and Mike Jenkins means ridiculous possibilities in Dallas, another go to receiver is the only strict need.

3. Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis has nagging injuries to their best players on the team; Marvin Harrison, Peyton Manning, Bob Sanders, and Dwight Freeney. Their biggest weaknesses are on the defensive front at defensive tackle and their linebacker core is their Achilles heel. However, Tony Dungy always seems to find a way to win as one of the best head coaches in the NFL

4. San Diego Chargers

The Chargers are complemented with a good schedule by playing against the Chiefs, Raiders, and Broncos twice. Adding Chris Chambers with Craig Davis gives their receiving core a major facelift, while their defensive line and linebackers are also their weak spot to some degree. They'll struggle to retain the Merriman, Edwards combo they had two years ago.

5. New Orleans Saints

This year the Saints are out to prove they're the real deal, last season we filled their heads with so much hype I'm surprised they could still fit their helmets on. Put Sedrick Ellis and Bobby McCray on their defensive line, John Vilma in the 4-3 scheme he excels in, Jeremy Shockey at TE, and McKenzie, David, Gay and rookie Tracy Porter at CB, wow. Combined with first round pick Meachem and a plethora of receivers, like I said, wow.

6. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars smash mouth coach Del Rio, my favorite, will have a good defensive line, as usual, despite their losses and can hopefully get a shutdown pass defense with Drayton Florence, Brian Williams and Rashean Mathis and spectacular second-year safety Reggie Nelson. Jerry Porter is an athletic receiver who put up 6 TD in Oakland, imagine if he had a good quarterback, combined with Troy Williamson, Reggie Williams, Dennis Northcutt, and Matt Jones, this team has clear potential.

7. New York Giants

Eli walked into last season as a questionable and unconfident quarterback and walked out with a Super Bowl ring out-dueling Brett Favre, Tony Romo, and Tom Brady. They have some serious losses with Michael Strahan, but his proteges Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora will serve well.

Mathias Kiwanuka should step up to the losses of Torbor and Mitchell. And Aaron Ross will need to handle a major load with the loss of Gibril Wilson.

8. Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings elite run stopping defense has even gotten more upgrades with Michael Boulware, Madieu Williams, and Jared Allen, which should make this defense one of the most electrifying in the NFL. Hello '85 Bears defense.

Tavaris Jackson has nowhere to go but up, while rookie sensation Adrian Peterson should continue to be a sensation. If Jackson can get a passing game going, they can easily crack the top five.

9. Philadelphia Eagles

One of the NFL's more underrated teams, losing four games by 4 points or less last season, while also playing in the toughest conference in the NFC. McNabb claims to be very healthy, if he can prove it this season, look for the Eagles to come out with a winning demeanor after losing so many close games. They've added Asante Samuel to their pass defense, which should do wonders and put Lorenzo Booker behind Westbrook.

10. Cleveland Browns

The Browns have finally found an offense with Joe Thomas leading the o-line in helping Derek Anderson find Edwards and new speedster Donte Stallworth. Brandon McDonald and Eric Wright look real good at corner and with great seasons as rookies last year they should make up for the loss of Leigh Bodden. With the additions of Shaun Rogers and Corey Williams on the defensive front, it's hard to think of their offense or defense going downhill this season.

Fantasy Football's 10 Finest Receivers

1. Randy Moss, NE

Last season, Moss posted record-breaking stats for an offense that showed minimal attention to the running game. With Chad Jackson returning and Welker emerging, Moss will come out on top again in the NFL, but don't expect things to get much better than last season.

Along with Goddell's focus on allowing electronic communication for defense this year, I wouldn't expect any new offensive records anytime soon.

2. Terrell Owens, DAL

Owens, last year, put up nice numbers for a team that lacked talent and depth at receiver. With Romo coming out strong in his first year as the starting QB, I would expect Romo's talent to offset Owens' age for his production next season.

The Cowboys have a solid O-line, and Owens is a reliable option in the red zone.

3. Braylon Edwards, CLE

Cleveland was last season's surprise team, due in large part to the development of Derek Anderson and the production of rookie Joe Thomas with a young O-line. I haven't seen this much youth and talent on a line since the Trailblazer's trio of Roy, Oden, and Aldridge.

Edwards is entering his fourth year with a team that's producing. Combine that with Stallworth's ability to detract defenders from Edwards, and you can see how he is justified as our third-best receiver.

4. Andre Johnson, HOU

Last year, Johnson was held off the field with injury issues, but he averaged the most yards/game and was a clear, deep-ball threat when Schaub was healthy at QB. Last year, they had a banged up QB, O-line, RB, and receiver. Just imagine the possibilities if they had stayed healthy. Johnson could easily be this year's Braylon Edwards.

5. Reggie Wayne, IND

Wayne had the most receiving yards last season, even with Harrison injured and pass coverage focused on him. With ol' reliable, Manning, and the developing Anthony Gonzalez, and hopefully a healthy Marvin, Wayne should deliver this season as the clear go-to guy for arguably the best QB in the NFL right now. No surprises here.

6. Steve Smith, CAR

John Fox's coaching may be riding on this season. After Delhomme's injury, he put up eight TDs and one INT in just three games. The O-line also took some hits because of their transition to a zone-blocking scheme, which should pay off this season.

Even with a horrendous year at QB for the Panthers, and with other receivers to distract the DBs, Smith still put up over 1,000 yards and seven TDs. With Hackett, Muhammad, and Jarret in Carolina, and Delhomme looking better than ever, expect Smith to live up to his hype.

7. Larry Fitzgerald, ARI

Fitzgerald is one of the most talented receivers in this league, but with Anquan Boldin fighting for a new contract, combined with Leinart at starter—who has yet to prove his draft value—one must hesitate to put him so high. Though he's young and proven to challenge even the best DBs in the league, his production won't take any serious hits, and it should be a no-brainer to take him if he's available here.

8. T.J. Houshmandzadeh, CIN

Over the past three seasons, Houshmazilly has posted over 3,000 yards and 28 TDs in Cincinnati, with 12 of them put up last season. He many not be the center of attention, but his stats won't go down to a guy who doesn't have any long-term plans for the organization. Look for Palmer to consistently give T.J. end-zone touches this season.

9. Plaxico Burress, NYG

For the past three seasons, Burress has put up similar numbers to T.J., with over 3,000 yards and 29 TDs, though last season he came on twice as strong, barring his injuries from the conversation.

A confident Eli in New York, and another receiving threat like Manningham, can loosen up the coverage on Burress and allow him to put up even better numbers than last season, but that's a high expectation to crack the top five.

10. Marques Colston, NO

Colston proved himself as a legitimate NFL stud last season with his ridiculous 19 TDs and over 2,000 yards in his first two seasons. Combine Colston with young Devery Henderson and Robert Meachem, who's in his first season, combined with Shockey as another red-zone threat, and that should take a toll on Colston's attempt to improve his numbers. Nevertheless, he shouldn't get less than 1,000 yards this season again.

Upside: plays behind a good offensive line, Michael Turner is gone, easiest rush defense schedule, the most consistent running back in the league

     3. Brian Westbrook, PHI

Upside: prime age, most versatile back in NFL as a receiving threat

Downside: mediocre offensive line, tough rushing schedule

     4. Joseph Addai, IND

Upside: just third year in NFL, decline in passing options, great offensive line

Downside: tough rushing schedule, decline in yards per carry since rookie season

     5. Marion Barber, DAL

Upside: still developing, no more Julius Jones to share carries with, great offensive line blocking for him

Downside: difficult rushing schedule, what will Felix Jones' role be in the offense? Tony Sparano left office

     6. Steven Jackson, STL

Upside: still developing, productivity with a healthy team

Downside: injury issues last season, horrible offensive line, Brian Leonard's role?

     7. Clinton Portis, WAS

Downside: injury issues, tough rushing schedule, new head coach?

Upside: still developing, ridiculous productivity, good o-line, stronger emphasis on running game if Rodgers starts

Downside: last season a fluke year? how will he fare against the young competition in Green Bay?

     9. Frank Gore, SF

Upside: still developing, young and improving offensive line, easy rushing schedule

Downside: injured last season, off field issues, Fred Jackson surprise?

NFL Rookies Who Will Make an Immediate Impact

        Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB, Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals' pass defense was 28th in the NFL last year, and moving Antrel Rolle to free safety will work out much better in the long run. Rodgers-Cromartie finished off his impressive Senior Bowl week with an interception against some of the best football players in the NCAA, while answering those who made questions about his ability to produce at the next level coming from a small school. At the combine he displayed a 4.3 40-yard dash and an amazing vertical at 38.5 inches, ridiculous. That kind of speed and vertical on a cornerback thats 6'2'' is scary. He should pose serious threats in the NFL with his ability, and will make his name known for a team that lacks talent at the cornerback position.

        Johnathan Stewart RB, Carolina Panthers

Johnathan Stewart is my boy—he was the best running back in this draft and will tear it up in the NFL. But before I hurt any Oakland or Arkansas loyals, let's wait until this season is done. I can't deny McFadden's production in college, but after watching Stewart play, you can tell he has that edge to bust through multiple defenders and keep running. At that, the Pantheres have made it clear that they have plans to emphasize the run much more this year. NFL.com has compared him to LaDainian Tomlinson, though I'm not sure if I can go that far. This guy is like a much more talented Maurice Jones-Drew, and will complement DeAngelo Williams' speed very well with his bruising, tackle-breaking running style. Not to mention he's also a great blocker and will fit in well with an improving offensive line.

        Curtis Lofton LB, Atlanta Falcons

This guy looks great on film—a very good tackler, great instincts, and very smart. The Falcons' defense needs to get stronger. With subpar linebacker Michael Boley and aging veteran Keith Brooking, Lofton will make his name known this season posting 100 plus tackles. Many doubt his ability because of his small size, but I've heard of that one before with Demeco Ryans, Lofa Tatupu, and Shawne Merriman. During his senior season, he recorded 157 tackles and earned the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year honors. Lofton looks like a solid all-around linebacker for a defense that needs him, look for him to make a case for Defensive Rookie of the Year.

        Quentin Groves DE/OLB, Jacksonville Jaguars

Groves is a beast, very fast and agile with his 4.57 40-yard dash. When you watch him on film you can see his strength and fast armwork that allow him to blow by defenders. He does has some injury problems, which made him rest for a good portion of his senior year in 2007, but he still managed to tie the Auburn record for most sacks with 26. He posted 9.5 sacks his junior year and six as a sophomore. This guy blows past the line and is constantly attacking the quarterback. He may be one of the most athletic defensive players in this draft, but is held down and drafted low because of his injury prone label. Look for him to add more power to the tenacious Jaguar defense.

        Trevor Laws DT, Philadelphia Eagles

Here's another player whose production has been questioned because of his size, but has a great character and work ethic to make it at the next level. Laws finished his career at Notre Dame with more tackles than any lineman in the past 20 years, the sixth best career total by a Notre Dame defensive lineman. He's a team leader and posted excellent grades, earning academic honors for the Fighting Irish. He's started at both end and tackle during his career, and he also put up nine pass deflections in his senior season. He is extremely tenacious and unrelenting on the field to get to the ball despite his undesireable size. He also showed off his skills by being one of the best performers on the bench press, posting 35 reps, and his workout looked impressive to many scouts.

        James Hardy WR, Buffalo Bills

Here's a former basketball player at 6'6'' who is aggressive and fast, a perfect fit for a Hail Mary with his size and athleticism. He has some character questions, but if he can stay out of trouble, look for this bad boy to tear up the field. He posted 36 touchdowns during his career at Indiana, breaking the previous school record of 30, which also puts him third all-time on the Big 10 receiving touchdowns list lead by Braylon Edwards on top. This guy is long and athletic and should become a real red-zone threat for a team that lacks talent at wide out, his height and vertical make him perfect for reaching over DB's that try to cover him.

        Dan Connor LB, Carolina Panthers

Coming from Penn State—aka Linebacker U.—tells you everything you need to know. He broke Paul Posluszny's record for most career tackles last year at Penn State. Connor is very aggressive and an excellent tackler, he has a nose for the football and has excellent leadership skills. He will do very well for the Panthers after the loss of Dan Morgan, many compare him to Paul Posluszny. He's a steal in the third round, and had even been considered to go in the first round in some mock drafts.

Erin Henderson* LB, Minnesota Vikings, undrafted sleeper pick

Undrafted but signed with Minnesota Vikings, this projected third round pick posted 133 tackles as a Junior for Maryland and is now playing beside his brother E.J. Henderson for the Vikings. He made the move late in his career from QB to LB, but wasn't allowed to return to Maryland because he declared himself draft-eligible. He attended the 2008 NFL combine, was a 2007 Playboy Preseason All-American, and posted 247 tackles in just two seasons. He led the ACC in tackles his junior year, and was second his sophomore year. He was a third team All-American and a Butkus Award semifinalist after just two years at LB. He went undrafted because of injury questions, but he is a clear sleeper and has yet to get a full understanding of the position, and he's already earning himself all-american honors.

Other Players Looking to Make a Strong Impact:

Glenn Dorsey DT, Jerod Mayo LB, Ryan Clady OT, Mike Jenkins CB, Phillip Merling DE, Malcolm Kelly WR, Ray Rice RB, Tavares Gooden LB, Jamaal Charles RB, Pat Sims DT, Philip Wheeler LB, Beau Bell LB, Xavier Adibi LB, Tashard Choice RB, Red Bryant DT, Shawn Crable LB, Anthony Collins OT, ONeil Cousins OG, Tom Zbikowski S, Tracy Porter CB, Matt Forte RB

D'Antoni, Gallinari Bring More Than Good Pizza to the Big Apple

In the first move to begin the D'Antoni chapter for the New York Knicks, David Stern says "...the New York Knicks select, Danilo Gallinari." Boos erupted in NYC's Wamu Theater to a kid, who like many others, dreamed of international stardom and fame on the basketball court.

Meanwhile the ESPN coverage with Jay Bilas and company, as usual, showed their great study up on the NBA Draft when they struggled to make input on Gallinari, along with what he brings to the NBA.

After the quick analysis of Danilo's game, New York Knicks biggest critic and biggest fan, Stephen A. Smith, didn't seem too animated interviewing Gallinari like he was with the other lottery picks. Especially since Smith will get to know Gallinari a lot better over the next decade.

Regardless of whether he's Italian, Indian, Brazilian, or Martian (Mars), and whether or not his name is Danilo Gallinari, or Cory Lekkerkerker for the Dallas Cowboys (yes it's spelled right, search it yourself), if he came here to win, I don't see what's not to like about him.

First off, we're not just talking about D'Antoni's connections to why he took Gallinari. But if you’re going to take an international player, speaking their language makes communication much easier (probably the most important factor in building a team). D'Antoni speaks Italian, Gallinari speaks English, check.

Second, D'Antoni was the leading scorer for his Italian team when he played basketball, he won two Euroleague titles and five Italian league titles. So, he's been in Gallinari's shoes and now he's one of the best coaches in Europe and the U.S.

The up tempo system he loves, is Gallinari's style of play. Also, Gallinari is very coachable with how D'Antoni can relate to him. This will make it easier for him to adapt to U.S. basketball, which makes a totally different situation then Nene Hilario in NYC.

Third, for the second youngest player in the NBA draft, to become the MVP of the Euroleague, I think that says something in itself. Gallinari doesn't stop using the word win in Italian and English when I listen to him talk. And his dad, Victorio, who played with D'Antoni, constantly preaches to Danilo about winning and practice, constantly improving Danilo's game.

Whether winning rubbed off on D'Antoni from Victorio or vice-versa, D'Antoni thrives off of winning, as shown by his success in Europe and the U.S. Danilo Gallinari will be a perfect complement to D'Antoni's system and has the chemistry with D'Antoni to become an NBA star.

What's even more enjoyable about this situation is that often times international players are relatively unproven in the Euroleague, but because they show the skills to be great down the line, NBA teams gamble on their rights as shown in this draft by Ibaka, Ajinca, and Batum somewhat.

With a player like Danilo being so young and so proven at that level, makes this much less of a gamble and more of a draft pick for talent. Rather than possibilities like much international players as busts face.

So, what does Gallinari bring to the New York Knicks? Unfortunately not much defense, which Russell Westbrook would be perfect for as well, being defensive player of the year in the Pac-10.

Gallinari is all clutch, and is all about winning, as he makes in his statements. He has that relentless attitude that you can see in Deron Williams, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and Dirk Nowitzki. Now, I'm not saying that he'll amount to their skills, but come playoffs, Gallinari will not stop for anyone.

Gallinari is excellent at drawing fouls and plays with great fundamentals along with confidence, these traits translate into the NBA really well. He can shoot well on the perimeter and can drive to the basket as a slashing wing.

With Gallinari playing for the Knicks, he can do well. D'Antoni is beginning to change the culture and mentality of the New York Knicks with himself from the outside in, and with Gallinari from the inside out. There's a lot of ifs here with Gallinari but D'Antoni produces results, as a player and as a coach.

While ESPN has passed up good attention on a player who can make or break the Knicks' future, and Stephen A. Smith is busy rushing to judge an Italian talent with most likely Bargnani Knicks' nightmares, the least you can do is give the kid a chance.

NBA Mock Draft: Picks 21-30—McGee, Say Hello To Seattle

21. New Jersey Nets - Jason Thompson, Rider, C

New Jersey native Thompson is exactly what the Nets are looking for—with the 25th-ranked offense in the NBA and many of the Nets' current low post players leaving due to free agency, Thompson provides some needed depth and the ability to run the floor with his frame. He doesn't shoot free throws well, at 58 percent, but Diop, Krstic, and Boone all shoot under 50 percent as is.

The Nets need a center that is offensively oriented. JaVale McGee is tempting at this spot, but he puts up similar numbers and strong defense similar to most of the Nets' current big men—who have tons of defensive talent and no offensive gameplan. Thompson will be able to provide offense with his versatility and even his three-point range. He's an intriguing prospect that many teams have shown interest in.

22. Orlando Magic - Chase Budinger, Arizona, SG/SF

The Magic look solid all-around—the only worry is Rashard Lewis's age, but Hedo Turkoglu can take over when he's out, leaving an empty space at SF. With Lewis they have Maurice Evans and Keith Bogans at SG, who aren't the ideal starters for their team.

Budinger is a great shooter and has limited fouls in the minutes he's played, an indicator of disciplined defense. He's conditioned very well from the number of minutes played. Budinger's athleticism has even made him one of the best volleyball players on tour in the U.S. McGee gets passed on again because the Magic already have youth and depth behind Dwight Howard.

23. Utah Jazz – Devon Hardin, California, C

The Jazz are in need of a big-bodied center that doesn't foul too often and can play excellent defense. Mehmet Okur is good offensively, but his and Boozer's foul troubles show the need for a defensive stand in the paint.

McGee is a good consideration here, but he's foul-prone, and the Jazz already commit the most fouls in the NBA. He gets taken advantage of defensively and other than blocking shots he's a horrible defender and lacks explosiveness. He's a great shooter, but in many ways is too similar to Okur. Robin Lopez looks good as well, but he’s a project who has a lot of weaknesses and some defensive issues that could make him a bust.

Devon Hardin is the man the Jazz are looking for—he has an ideal body and size. He provides a mediocre offensive game but excels defensively, using his size to contest and defend shots in the paint.

24. Seattle Supersonics – JaVale McGee, Nevada, C

Finally McGee has found a home. McGee has a great size and frame—with him, Watson, Mayo, and Durant running the floor, this may become one of the fastest and best teams in transition. With Petro, Elson, and Swift being injured and unproductive, McGee is at least a nice change of pace, with star potential if the Sonics can find the means to create it.

McGee excels at driving to the basket and is even able to shoot NBA threes. He is athletic and quick, though he lacks the explosiveness and size to hold his own in the post.

McGee’s versatility, combined with his athleticism, makes him a good pick here. He has upside that a rebuilding franchise can’t pass up, and with six picks in this year's draft there’s little reason for the Sonics not to take a chance on him. He’s likely to be a bust, is turnover- and foul-prone, and is a bad free throw shooter, but he’s the foundation for a transition offense.

25. Houston Rockets - Chris Douglas-Roberts, Memphis, SG/SF

The Rockets look solid on defense but need more more offensive production, ranking 22nd in points per game. They have great depth at most positions but are looking for a guard to replace Luther Head—who crumbled like a cookie in the playoffs—and spell veteran guards Tracy McGrady and Bobby Jackson.

The Rockets' strongest needs include better FG%, 3PT%, and FT%. This can be provided by Chris Douglas-Roberts with his ability to drive to the rim, exceptional athleticism, and good perimeter shot.

**26. Utah Jazz - Courtney Lee, Western Kentucky, SG/SF

Courtney Lee has very few downfalls and looks exceptional. Questions about his competition in the NCAA were answered with an appearance in the Sweet 16. He's an excellent role player with a great attitude, and he displays veteran skills of timing and patience combined with his fluid movement and jumpers.

With Ronnie Brewer and Andrei Kirilenko at SF (and assuming Kyle Korver is traded), Lee adds a true SG who is a good team player with fundamental skills, allowing Brewer to play at his natural SF position. Lee also adds great perimeter defense with his ability to steal the ball.

27. New Orleans Hornets – Gary Forbes, UMass, SG/SF

The New Orleans Hornets have made solid improvements this year, and drafting a SG would be ideal, but there’s none worth reaching for at this point. They are in a good position to take the best available talent—with Jannero Pargo/Chris Paul and David West/Hilton Armstrong, they’re looking for the best SG/SF available.

Forbes displayed a great showing at the predraft combine in Orlando and was a phenomenal scorer. The stats he put up in the A-10 are the real deal. Here Forbes allows some versatility between Morris Peterson and Peja Stojakovic.

*28. Minnesota Timberwolves – Marreese Speights, Florida PF/C

Speights is taken here because he has already slid down so far and adds some depth to having Kevin Love, Al Jefferson and Kwame Brown (assuming a trade with Memphis) so that Minny can establish a gameplan down in the post.

Speights is the best available player here—he lacks some defensive awareness but comparisons of him have been made to Al Jefferson, though he has a lot to prove to make that a reality. He’s a great finisher and is excellent at picking up rebounds, though there’s questions about his conditioning and understanding of the game.

29. Detroit Pistons – D.J. White, Indiana, PF

The Pistons have made a verbal commitment to White and Hardin. Unfortunately Hardin isn’t available, and so they’ll stick with White because they believe he will be a perfect fit in their system. This is a tough choice, especially with Robin Lopez still available and their biggest need being at center with Rasheed Wallace and Theo Ratliff aging.

White is a solid and aggressive PF who has a decent perimeter game, and he’s great at getting rebounds and scoring on the glass down low. With Antonio McDyess’s age and Jason Maxiell lacking the conditioning to play full-time minutes, this could be a good combination for the Pistons despite passing on Lopez.

30. Boston Celtics – Robin Lopez, Stanford, PF/C

It’s amazing that Robin has fallen this far, but despite being twins, the Lopez brothers are two different players. Robin Lopez’s weaknesses include getting overpowered in the paint, poor FT%, a poor offensive game, being foul prone, and a lack of defensive awareness.

On the other hand, he’s a good offensive rebounder, mobile, able to run the floor, and has good shot blocking ability. He has a lot of work to do to become a better defender and scorer.

Kendrick Perkins isn’t in good enough shape to get the minutes he would like. With P.J. Brown in his 14thyear, and Leon Powe and Glen Davis being just 6'8" and 6'9" respectively, having a seven-footer with potential to come in for Perkins would make Lopez a good fit here and a steal for how far he’s slid down.

* = Minnesota trades C Michael Doleac, 3rd pick, 34th pick to Memphis for the 5th pick, 28th pick and C Kwame Brown

** = Utah Jazz trade SF Kyle Korver to San Antonio for the 26th pick.

NBA Mock Draft, Picks 13-20

        13. Portland Trail Blazers - Joe Alexander, West Virginia SF

Portland should consider themselves lucky that Alexander is even still available here. Joe by far has the most relentless work ethic in this draft, which has left scouts drooling. He also has the second fastest 3/4 court sprint in the predraft combine, and was the second strongest player in the bench press.

At that, he's put up amazing numbers in college while Huggins is teaching him basic post moves at WVU because he only has five years of basketball competition, and he's still learning.

With his Jordan style free throw line dunks, putting up 66 points in two games against a UConn defense that is one of the best in the country, and 40 points, 21 rebounds, six assists, four turnovers and four blocks against Duke and Xavier in the NCAA tournament, he's proved he's clutch.

This is my favorite player in the draft. He knows how to draw the foul, and has excellent passing ability and shot blocking skills. The Blazers have the third worst offense in the NBA and are horrible at drawing the defensive foul, Alexander is a perfect fit in their lineup with their needs at SF.

        14. Golden State Warriors - DeAndre Jordan, Texas A&M C

The Warriors had the best offense this year and the worst defense in the NBA, which speaks for itself. With Patrick O'Bryant likely leaving, along with Mickael Pietrus, the Warriors have Biedrins, old Croshere and Harrington, and even resorted to bringing back Chris Webber this year at low post.

DeAndre Jordan lacks a serious offensive gameplan, with his 7.9 ppg on a 20.1 minute average. He's the best chance at being a bust in the lottery this year and will be a major project that should expect results in the long term.

He is turnover and foul prone and he shoots less than 45% from the free throw line. He plays great defense and gets a lot of blocks and thats exactly what the Warriors need. He fills a critical need as a backup C and allows Harrington to focus at PF. He's the best defensive prospect available, fills a needed position and is a bargain at #14.

         15. Phoenix Suns - Brandon Rush Kansas, SG/SF

The Phoenix Suns have many needs with their aging team, with six players coming into their 10th season in the NBA, of which three are starters, with injury ridden Grant Hill entering his 14th season, and old Shaq entering his 16th season.

Although a versatile, defensive, and fast C who can play in transition may be one of their biggest needs, they have others as well. At one point during the season they were forced to pick up Gordan Giricek, who won't make it as a starter. Word on the street is that the Suns have a liking for Rush in their future. Rush has some ball handling issues, but he has a solid jumper, even with hands in his face, and he shoots 41.9% from 3-point range. He also rarely commits the foul displaying disciplined defense. Since his ACL injury, he should be looking much better in the NBA then how he performed in college

        16. Philadelphia 76ers - Donte Greene, Syracuse SF/PF

Philadelphia have the 23rd best ppg, worst 3 point%, 23rd most assists, and the worst FT% in the NBA, they have their work cut out for them. The 76ers have Dalembert, Miller and Iguodala starting in their lineup and the proper backups for most of them, leaving PF and SG/SF looking for a starter to regenerate their offense. The best 3 point shooter in Philly is backup PG/SG Louis Williams at 36%.

I like Donte Greene because he's 6'9'' and he hits 34.5% of his three's, he has the explosiveness to take it to the rim, extremely athletic, and is an excellent perimeter shooter and he's just a freshman. He reminds me a lot like Kevin Durant just without as much productivity, the only down fall is that Greene may require good coaching to become a great player. Greene with his frame and height makes him a versatile threat and may take the pressure off of the other 3 point shooters.

        17. Toronto Raptors - Roy Hibbert, Georgetown C

The Raptors are third to last in rebounds, and other than that, they look good offensively, defensively they are mediocre, which is where they should look to make most of their improvements.

The only area with a real weakness may be center, where undeveloped Bargnani lays, and behind him Nesterovic is getting up in age. The Raptors are most likely looking for a center that can hold his own in the paint, is outstanding defensively, along with some sort of offensive production and thats exactly what Hibbert is best at.

There's questions about his conditioning and being foul prone, but with the Raptors situation right now, he'll be a perfect role player defensively, somewhat of a reach, but a certain upgrade in a needed area. McGee is available, but he's good at blocking and only blocking, he lacks a lot of awareness in many departments and is likely to be a bust, and right now the Raptors have Bargnani and are looking for a sixth man, and good defense which Hibbert will be good for.

        18. Washington Wizards - Nicolas Batum, France SF

The Wizards are at huge risk of losing Antwan Jamison and Gilbert Arenas in free agency, although we've heard Arenas say we he will and won't come back. So it's almost a coin flip and with Jamison's age, they are iffy on re-signing him for a big contract, but he's an integral part of the Wizards and theres few that are better than Jamison.

As of right now the biggest need of the Wizards may be a guard, with Arenas being injured, lack of productivity from Stevenson, and Daniels getting up in age. This will force Batum and Butler to share the SG/SF positions. I considered Budinger, but Batum's defense is better, and Budinger has a few other questions about him.

       19. Cleveland Cavaliers - Kosta Koufos, Ohio State C

This may be the perfect fit for Cleveland, with Illgauskas getting old and lacking a lot of youth at the low post for Cleveland. Koufos brings a solid offensive game which Cleveland needs badly and allows them to play in transition more with Koufos court speed and conditioning. His offensive talents supercede his defense, but he's a good shot blocker and is mobile.

This is an offensive upgrade that Cleveland needs badly, and is a steal at the 19th pick. There's also few SG available to consider either, and at that, Daniel Gibson is one of the most underrated young players and quickly rising in the NBA.

        20. Denver Nuggets - Ty Lawson, North Carolina PG

This year and next year may be the only two years left before A.I. and Camby have to start calling it quits. Nene Hilario will be back although he's often injured, and Kenyon Martin is not playing up to par.

With McGee available although he's a likely bust and a horrendous free throw shooter along with many other questions, Denver has to look at what will make the Nuggets at least advance past the first round.

That answer is Ty Lawson. There isn't a single PG on their team that looks capable of staying a full season, or playing at the level they would prefer with Carter and Atkins. Lawson dishes out assists like none other, is very fast, and is effective on transition, something that fits the style of play by the Nuggets. He pushes up the tempo and minimizes turnovers, great fit and Karl loves him.

NBA Mock Draft, Picks 6-12: Arizona Taking Over NYC

6. New York Knicks - Jerryd Bayless, Arizona PG/SG

I don't know if the draft could work out any better for Mike D'Antoni than having Bayless slip down to number six. For a Knicks team that was last in the league in assists, and 27th in both three-point and field-goal percentage, adding Bayless would be a huge boost with both Stephon Marbury and Fred Jones on the free agency market this offseason.

Bayless would be a perfect fit with Nate Robinson and Jamal Crawford, and would add some offensive fire and chemistry to a team that can greatly benefit from both.

A defensively-oriented center may be the Knicks' most pressing need, but it's difficult to pass up on Bayless and take a reach for DeAndre Jordan at the same time.

7. Los Angeles Clippers - Eric Gordon, Indiana SG

The Clippers have big men Chris Kaman, Elton Brand, Corey Maggette, Josh Powell, and Al Thornton. But offensively, they are limited at the guard position outside of Shaun Livingston—when he is healthy. That limitation showed this year, as the Clips finished 29th in overall offense, three-point percentage, and field-goal percentage.

Russell Westbrook is a strong consideration here, but he's a great defensive guard and works best at scoring in transition. While the Clippers have a decent defense already, they lack the speed and athleticism to create more points in transition.

Gordon looks like a good fit here, despite the fact that he's turnover prone, he's good at scoring points—something the Clippers clearly need more than anything else.

8. Milwaukee Bucks - Danilo Gallinari, Italy SF

The Bucks need a lot of things to happen to turn their team around.

Desmond Mason hasn't put up the production the Bucks were hoping he would. Danilo Gallinari has established himself as the best Euroleague product at the young age of 19. He looks like one of the most fluid players in this year's draft, has a very limited downside, and is extremely versatile.

Gallinari shoots above 40 percent, both overall and behind the three-point arc. For a team 25th in three-point percentage and 21st in steals, he will be a major improvement for the Bucks. Above all, he's the most talented player available at the position of most need.

9. Charlotte Bobcats - Anthony Randolph, LSU SF/PF

Anthony Randolph has an amazing ability to block shots. He is an excellent rebounder. And he shoots 69 percent from the free throw line, despite clocking in at 6'11''.

The Bobcats are 26th in rebounds and 29th in free throw shooting. With starting PF/C Okafor hitting 57 percent of his free throws, and nine-year veteran PF/C Nazr Mohammed hitting 61.7 percent, Randolph would be a good change of pace.

With his great speed, Randolph could lead a transition offense off the bench at PF. Or he could be a breath of fresh air by subbing in for Okafor, Mohammed, and Richardson.

Either way, he looks to be extrememly talented. There is a chance he could be a bust, but if the worst case scenario is him making it as a bench player or sixth man, he's well worth the risk at No. 9.

10. New Jersey Nets - Darrell Arthur, Kansas PF

It's tempting for the Nets to take C Deandre Jordan with this pick, but Jordan has the best chance at being a bust in the top 15. He only averaged 7.9 ppg, slowed down at the end of the season, hasn't gotten starting minutes to test his conditioning, is foul and turnover prone, and hits only 43.7 percent of his free throws.

Add in the fact that New Jersey has Nenad Kristic, DeSagana Diop, and Bostjan Nachbar on the free agency market. Then take into account that the Nets' men in the low post besides Williams are one-dimensional, lacking the versatility of hitting 15-foot jumpers and unconditioned to play in a transition offense.

These factors have given the Nets the 26th-best field-goal percentage, 25th-best overall offense, 24th-best three-point percentage, and 24th-worst turnovers margin.

Best for New Jersey to trade this pick down—but if they don't, Darrell Arthur is a good choice. Arthur is nothing spectacular, but he has the size and speed to work with guards in transition or on the perimeter. He shoots field goals at a 54-percent clip and hits 70 percent of his free throws—much better than Diop's 47 percent, Boone's 46 percent, and Williams 60 percent free throw shooting.

11. Indiana Pacers - Russell Westbrook, UCLA PG

Statistically, the Pacers looked good this year—except that they were 27th in turnovers, 26th in defense, and 24th in field-goal percentage. Indiana had Diener and Rush as the starting guards in place of the oft-injured Jamaal Tinsley—who, as it has been pointed out, is not in the Pacers' "long term future."

The Pacers lack both depth and talent at the guard position, which has forced 6'9'' Granger to play SG when he's much more suited for SF. Westbrook shoots well, is excellent at stealing the ball, and loves to score in transition. He brings great defensive fundamentals along with good energy. He would be a perfect fit for the Pacers.

12. Sacramento Kings - D.J. Augustin, Texas PG

The Kings have two immediate needs. First, a PG, as Anthony Johnson will walk into his 12th year in the NBA along with Beno Udrih, who will be a free agent they seek to re-sign.

Their second-biggest need is to find a good PF. Shareef Abdur-Rahim, Mikki Moore, Brad Miller, and Lorenzen Wright all have at least 10 years in the NBA. Last year, the Kings aquired rookie Spencer Hawes, along with injured and unproductive Shelden Williams. This is well reflected in their stats—30th in turnovers, 29th in assists, 28th in rebounds, and 26th in blocks.

Augustin would fill a long-term need at PG, regardless if Udrih is re-signed. The amazing number of assists he dished out as a freshman makes him much more attractive. With what PFs are left in the draft, the Kings have no choice but to take Augustin at PG—and it certainly isn't a bad choice either.
