2008 NFL Draft: Falcons Need a QB in Atlanta

Let's get to the point here. We all know that a good team revolves around its leader. Look at the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots. Who are their leaders? Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, respectively—both quarterbacks.

But what happens when a team has no quarterback?

No offense to Joey Harrington, but the Atlanta Falcons needs some new blood under center. And no, I don't mean Chris Redman or D.J. Shockley, even though Shockley most resembles Michael Vick.

Instead of looking for new defense, which the organization has done the last couple years, the Falcons need to build the offense, staring with quarterback.

A new face such as Boston College's Matt Ryan or even Hawaii's Colt Brennan could bring the spark back into the Falcon passing game, which has been completely nonexistent in recent memory.

The signing of Michael Turner will help the running game, but releasing Warrick Dunn won't. Releasing Alge Crumpler doesn’t make sense. Trading T.J. Duckett a few years ago was the worst choice they could have made. But Atlanta will have plenty of time in the future to work that out. Besides, we all make mistakes right? The only difference between fans and the organization is that we fans didn't lose our jobs over those mistakes.

Even though the entire National Football League knows that Atlanta needs an offense, expect them to make a bad decision and pick defense first.

If they keep this up, even the 1-15 Miami Dolphins from a year ago will surpass the "Dirty Bird."
