All-Anything: Team Arizona State University

To coincide with the All Anything NBA teams, I decided on going with an all Arizona State University to NBA team. This would be my five man starting lineup for an All ASU team. Now one of the best players in ASU history is not on this list due to the fact he did not have a great NBA career or much of one at all.

Michael Batiste for those who dont know of him (wiki him) attended ASU from 1995-1999 and was named to the All Pac 10 first team in 1998-1999. He did not go on to have a great NBA career only playing for the Grizzlies in the 2002-2003 season playing in 75 games averaging 6.4ppg.

He then moved on the Panathinaikos of the Greek League, also known as one of the top three best teams in all of Europe. Since being there he earned last season the Greek League award for best Forward in the league.

Now on to the list of players who actually have been in the NBA and have stuck there, there arent many to choose, but here they are, my starting lineup for ASU basketball.

PG: 2007/2008 Eddie House:
The 37th pick in the second round of the 2000 NBA draft, Eddie House has been a journeyman within the NBA playing for eight teams in his eight year NBA career. A former Pac 10 Player of the year in college House was able to light it up from almost anywhere for the Sun Devils which included a 61 point effort vs. Cal.

House saw himself get back on the NBA map with the Phoenix Suns in the '05-06 season which saw him score 9.8ppg but no season did he seem to play as big of a role as he did then last season the world champion Boston Celtics. Although House only avg. 7.5ppg during the regular season it was his leadership and incredible hussle that led the Celtics to the world title.

SG: 1987/1988 Byron Scott

The fourth overall pick in the 1983 draft Scott had a long and successful career winning three NBA titles with the Los Angeles Lakers. The 1987-1988 season proved to be Scott's best as he averaged a Lakers best for that season 21.7ppg to go along with 1.91spg. He was the Lakers starting SG from the 1984 season until the 1993 season. He also won a Greek League and European Championship playing for Panathinaikos. He is now the head coach of the New Orleans Hornets where he most recently won the NBA 2007-2008 Coach of the Year.

SF: 1977/1978 Lionel Hollins:

The sixth overall pick of the 1975 NBA draft, Lionel Hollins had an excellent career which saw him named as an NBA All Star one time and an All NBA defender twice and named to the All NBA Rookie Team in 1975. He also won a World Title with the Portland Trailblazers in the 1976-1977 NBA season.

He was a solid player at Arizona State and that translated to the NBA as he enjoyed his best season during the 1977-1978 NBA season which saw him average a career high 15.9ppg. After his playing days were over he became the head coach of the then Vancouver Grizzlies for the '99-00 season and he is now an assistant coach for the Milwaukee Bucks.

PF: 2005/2006 Ike Diogu:

The ninth overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, Ike Diogu was the reigning Pac 10 player of the year and was named to the 2nd Team All America when he left ASU after his Jr year to pursue and NBA career. Diogu hasn't lived up to the hype he had when he left ASU but did enjoy a nice rookie year campaign where he averaged 7.0ppg in 69 games with the Warriors, 14 of those games he started. Diogu has a lot of promise still ahead of him it is just injuries and multiple trades have slowed him down from becoming the player he can.

C: 1986/1987 Alton Lister:

The 21st overall pick in the 1981 draft Lister was a very successful player at ASU and that led to him having a pretty solid NBA career. His best season took place in the 1986-1987 season with the Seattle Supersonics which saw Lister avg. 11.6ppg and 9.4rpg in 75 games. Lister was known throughout his career as a solid defensive player and an excellent rebounder and shot blocker he retired from the NBA after the 97-98 season.

Bench:

2007-2008 - Awvee Storey

1968-1969 - Freddie Lewis

1970-1971 - Joe Caldwell

1985-1986 - Kurt Nimphius

1988-1989 - Lafayette Lever

NFL Power Rankings: Week Six

So, Week Six of the NFL season is behind us, and what a week it was, six of the 11 teams from last week's top 10 lost, leaving this week's rankings a mess. We saw one shining star in Dallas go down to injury for up to a month, Super Bowl Champs getting pushed around against a team that hasn't performed yet this season until this past week, and another so called NFL elite team losing to one of the NFL's worst.

1. Tennessee Titans (2) 5-0

With the loss of the Giants, and the fact that the Titans had a bye week, they move into the No. 1 position by default. Don't be fooled, however, as they are now the only undefeated team in the NFL. How long will that be able to last? Will the offense be able to kick it into gear now that they have had extra time to prepare?

2. New York Giants (1) 4-1

So they looked awful vs. Cleveland, and Eli showed glimpses of how he looked last season before Week 17. It's just a speed bump in the road for the Giants; they should be able to rebound this week against San Fran.

3. Pittsburgh Steelers (4) 4-1

This team is looking awfully good, and that's with Big Ben still a little banged up. AFC beware, yes, that even means you Tennessee. Pittsburgh is for real yet again.

4. Buffalo Bills (9) 4-1

Another team taking advantage of all the losses within the top 10 this week, Buffalo moves up five spots based on default, but will this team be able to keep up the pace if QB Trent Edwards is still banged up? J.P. Losman better take advantage of those first-team snaps he is getting in practice.

5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NR) 4-2

The way that this team dismantled Carolina this past week brought back old memories of the days when Warren Sapp and a much younger Derrick Brooks were punishing offenses. Tampa is on the rise, whether or not they have 300 quarterbacks on their team.

6. Arizona Cardinals (10) 4-2

This team has a lot of heart; a lot of other teams would've folded up in OT after giving up a 10-point lead late in the fourth quarter and especially against a team like Dallas. How good is Larry Fitzgerald? Is Kurt Warner the NFC MVP right now? Steve Breaston is looking like the best-kept secret in the NFL the past couple of weeks. Now that teams know who he is, can he continue to produce while Boldin is on the mend?

7. Indianapolis Colts (NR) 3-2

Don't look now, but this team is beginning to click, and that's without RB Addai having stellar games. How nice was it to see Peyton connect with Marvin on that long TD pass this past week? If Peyton and Marvin start connecting like that again, that just makes Reggie Wayne that much more scary the rest of the way.

8. Atlanta Falcons (NR) 4-2

Dare I say, are the Falcons poised for a playoff run? Most likely no, but how poised did Matt Ryan look on that throw to Michael Jenkins with only six seconds left on the clock? This team is young and are a tough group.

Also, after last season's jokes, this team doesn't want to be known as a laughing stock of the NFL anymore—save that for Detroit and Cincinnati.

9. Washington Redskins (3) 4-2

So the Redskins hit a pretty bad pothole in the road getting upset at home by the Rams, given the Rams really aren't that bad due to the players they have on offense, but come on. Maybe it was a little too fast to put Washington amongst the NFL elite, the season's still young, and now with Romo out in Dallas, this is the time for Washington to maybe get some space from themselves and Dallas for second in the NFC East.

10. Dallas Cowboys (5) 4-2

Dallas made waves today by trading for WR Roy Williams from the Lions, that TO-RW WR duo is awfully scary, but is it really going to look that scary for the next four weeks with Brad Johnson at the helm?

The loss of Tony Romo for the next four weeks will be a true indicator of what kind of a team this Dallas squad is; they can either curl up and wait for Romo, or they can go out and prove that they are not overrated.

It could get a little tougher now that Adam "Pacman" Jones has been suspended indefinitely by the league yet again. Will he ever learn if given yet another chance?

Dropped Out of Top 10 This Week

Carolina Panthers (6) 4-2

Denver Broncos (7) 4-2

New England Patriots (8) 3-2

Chicago Bears (10) 3-3

NFL Week Five Power Rankings, No. 1-10

Week five of the NFL season saw a certain team continue to look like Super Bowl Champs, a Super Bowl runner-up actually look like a high-flying team, and another team turn their season in a five-minute fourth quarter spurt.

Things were crazy this week, to say the least, but that's how we like our football, isn't it?

1. New York Giants (1) 4-0:

This team looked amazing this past week against Seattle, regardless of the fact that the Seahawks were just getting back their top two receivers. This team is scary good and Domenik Hixon looked like Plaxico Burress reincarnated this past week, or was that Eli Manning that made him look that good?

2. Tennessee Titans (2) 5-0:

Is it scary to think that this team is undefeated and hasn't looked great on offense at all this season? Imagine when they finally are able to click in the passing game and don't have to always rely on that tough defense.

3. Washington Redskins (4) 4-1:

Jason Campbell looks good, Clinton Portis looks like a man on a mission, and they are winning close games against division opponents. All that without a single reception from leading receiver Santana Moss. This team could be a sleeper that is turning into an NFC favorite.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers (6) 4-1:

For being hurt, Big Ben looks like he is the same QB week in and week out. That's a scary thought. Mewelde Moore? I remember when he started quite a few games for Minnesota a few years back and this guy can play. If he is on waivers in your fantasy league, go get him.

5. Dallas Cowboys (7) 4-1:

Jason Witten once again showed why he is more valuable than TO. Witten is among the top five in the league in receptions and yards, and he is a tight end. Some games you have to win ugly over a team that is horrible. It proves your worth, though, when you are still able to come away with a hard-fought win even in a game that isn't your best. A win is a win.

6. Carolina Panthers (8) 4-1:

One week it's Jonathan Stewart, the next it's DeAngleo Williams. How can any run defense make a game plan when the Panthers have what could be considered two feature backs. That defense looked nasty against Kansas City and that's also a pretty scary thought for teams in the NFC.

7. Denver Broncos (10) 4-1:

So they seem to have lost Eddie Royal and Tony Scheffler to injuries, but no doubt Mike Shanahan will find a way to gather this team for their next game. Don't forget they still have Brandon Marshall and a QB looking to prove himself in Jay Cutler.

8. New England Patriots (NR) 3-1:

Did anybody else think Matt Cassell looked an awful lot like Tom Brady when he hit Randy Moss for that huge TD pass? If this team can start clicking like they did against San Francisco, they could be the favorites in the AFC once again.

9. Buffalo Bills (3) 4-1:

A huge tumble for a team that got absolutely spanked this past week in Arizona. Losing Trent Edwards on Buffalo's third offensive play of the game didn't help either. It might be time for JP Losman to try and prove himself to these Buffalo faithful again. The next couple of games for the Bills could be telling on whether or not those first four games were the real deal, or just lightning in a bottle.

10. Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears (NR/NR) 3-2/3-2:

Both teams sit here in the 10th spot because of how good they looked this past week.

Who would've though Kyle Orton could actually throw the ball, and does it look like Greg Olson will turn out to be the real deal at tight end?

Will the Cards ever lose at home, +9 turnover ratio at home, -8 on the road. Kurt Warner right now is a top 10 candidate for MVP and rookie Tim Hightower is a beast at the goal line. This Cardinals team could be for real if they can win on the road. They are going to have to...or maybe not. They do play in the NFC West.

How Greg Norman Saved The PGA Tour, For This Week At Least

Through all the wind at Royal Birkdale and scores that could equal what you and I could possibly shoot on one day at a regular golf course, (John Daly shooting 89 on Friday) there stood a man who many thought was done and who many thought didn't even play golf anymore.

Greg Norman at age 53 went out this past weekend in the British Open to seemingly warm up for the Senior British Open at Troon and to continue on his honeymoon with former tennis champion Chris Evert.

What happened was something unthinkable, Greg Norman led the British Open up to the 63 hole mark when he seemingly lost the magic and finished in a tie for 3rd behind the now two time defending champ, Padraig Harrington.

In a tournament that did not have Tiger Woods and had the No.2 player in the world, Phil Mickelson, struggling, the tournament seemed doom to build much of an audience.

Greg Normans first round score of 70 drew many raised eyebrows on Thursday, but not to the point where they thought he was in contention. It was more of a nostalgic feeling as he and David Duval (former number one in the world before Tiger Woods took the reigns) both sat within reach of the leaders.

Day two saw both Norman and Duval continue their unthinkable play as both players sat on the main leaderboard heading into the weekend.

The third round saw Duval lose a step, shooting an 83, and taking him out of contention. But there he was, the Shark as he is known by many of his fans, still in contention and actually in the lead going into the final round of the British Open.

Could the 53 year old, part-time golfer actually be in the spotlight again and relive the glory days of old?

Up until the 9th hole it seemed that way, until the wind caught up to Norman and the driver that helped him out so much throughout the weekend started to fall off.

Norman went on to shoot a 39 on the back and fell out of contention, eventually losing by six strokes to Harrington.

But what Norman brought this weekend was a sense of revitalization to a sport in dire need of it since their pride and joy, in Tiger Woods, will not be back until the 2009 season due to a season ending knee surgery.

Don't compare this falter to the 1996 Masters which saw the Shark blow a six stroke lead in the final round.

The conditions at Birkdale were almost unbearable, winds so strong that players putting would have their balls blown away from the hole.

Instead lets raise our golf hats to Greg Norman, who for a week brought the attention back to the PGA Tour, and showed that an old man can still have a few tricks up his sleeve.

Now as golf falls back into sports obscurity in the coming weeks, we can always remember the weekend at Royal Birkdale, which almost saw a legend add another chapter in an already successful novel.

Thank you Greg Norman.

NBA Draft: 1970 Class the Most Underrated Ever?

When basketball historians recall some of the best draft classes in NBA history the typical draft class that gets brought up is the class of 1984, 1996 and most recently the class of 2003.

The 1984 class produced some of the best talents we have ever seen.

This draft produced such Hall of Famer's as, Hakeem Olajuwon (No. 1 overall), Michael Jordan (No. 3 overall) and Charles Barkley (No. 5 overall) and not to mention future Hall of Famer John Stockton (No. 16 overall).

The 1996 class included future hall of famers such as Allen Iverson (#1 overall), Kobe Bryant (#13 overall) and Steve Nash (#15 overall). It also includes all star players such as Shareek Abdur Rahim, Stephon Marbury, Ray Allen, Peja Stojavic, Antoine Walker, Jermaine O'Neal and Zydrunas Ilgauskus.

The 2003 draft included superstars such as Lebron James (#1), Carmelo Anthony (#3), Chris Bosh (#4) and Dwyane Wade (#5). It also included all star players such as David West (#18) and Josh Howard (#29).

But many people forget what could be one of the best if not the best, but also most underrated draft classes of all time.

That being the class of 1970.

This class boasts five, count them five, current hall-of-famers, more then the class of 1984 has.

The first overall pick in this draft was Bob Lanier, taken by the Detroit Pistons. During his 14-year NBA career, Lanier was named to the All-Star game six times, his number 16 was retired both in Detroit with the Pistons and in Milwaukee with the Bucks.

The third overall selection was "Pistol" Pete Maravich, taken by the Atlanta Hawks. Many call him the greatest college basketball player of all time and he was also recognized as being one of the NBA's 50 greatest players in its history. His career was short due to injuries and though he only played 10 seasons, his accomplishments are amazing. Two-time NBA first teamer, five-time All Star. He was the youngest person to ever be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. His number 7 was retired both in Atlanta with the Hawks and in New Orleans with the Hornets where he played when they were known as the New Orleans Jazz.

The fourth overall selection was Dave Cowens, taken by the Boston Celtics. He was the NBA MVP in 1973 and an All-Star seven times, winning the game MVP in 1973. He was also named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history, his No. 18 was also retired with the Boston Celtics.

The 18th overall selection was Calvin Murphy, selected by the San Diego Rockets. Murphy was inducted in the the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1993 and his jersey was also retired by the Houston Rockets. He was also an NBA all star in 1979.

The 19th overall selection was Nate "Tiny" Archibald, selected by the Cincinnati Royals. He was a three-time All NBA selection, a six-time NBA All Star and one of the greatest scoring and passing point guards of all time. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1991 and was named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history.

The class of 1970 is an often forgotten class among many NBA fans, often lost in the group when the class of '84, '96 and '03 are brought up.

Many great players were drafted in 1970, not just hall of famer's, Rudy Tomjanovich was selected that draft with the number two overall selection. He went on to have a great playing career as well as a great coaching career.

The class of 1970 may not always be discussed—but it sure is not forgotten as it was as complete as any other draft in history.

NBA Draft: Predicting the First 14 Selections

With the Bulls shockingly winning the No. 1 overall pick in this year's NBA Draft, the question now is, who will the Bulls take, Michael Beasley or Derrick Rose?

1. Chicago Bulls - Michael Beasley (Kansas State)

This is basically a coin-flip pick, as either player would automatically help this team a lot. I still have faith in current Bulls point guard Kirk Hinrich that he can lead this team deep into the playoffs. Beasley can play inside and shoot from the outside, a pair of qualities Joakim Noah and Tyrus Thomas lack.

2. Miami Heat - Derrick Rose (Memphis)

The Heat will be very happy with either player being available there at No. 2. This position is easier than the No. 1 pick, because the Heat can easily take whichever stud isn't taken first. Rose would be an instant impact player for a Heat team with point guard in Jason Williams who is on the downturn of his career. Rose gets taken here and instantly helps the Heat win more games.

3. Minnesota Timberwolves - Brook Lopez (Stanford)

The Timberwolves get an instant impact from Lopez, who will take off a lot of pressure from Al Jefferson. Lopez and Jefferson could instantly become a tough duo to deal with inside the post. Not to mention, these two could play volleyball with one another, which would equal a lot of easy dunks.

4. Seattle Sonics - Jerryd Bayless (Arizona)

Seattle takes the best player available and somebody who can also become their franchise point guard in the near future. Bayless brings an instant intensity to win and will be a huge help to Durant by creating plays for him. Durant had to create his own plays last season.

5. Memphis Grizzlies - DeAndre Jordan (Texas A&M)

Memphis drafts a young player who could develop into a pretty good center. Memphis needs a lot of help, but starting down in the post is definitely a good place to start. Jordan is good enough to have an instant impact.

6. New York Knicks - O.J. Mayo (Southern California)

The Knicks draft a player who many say is the most NBA-ready of any player in the draft. Mayo should shine in New York, especially under Mike D'Antoni's run and gun offense. Mayo most likely will not start but should see quality minutes . He will definitely be accepted by the bright lights of NYC and New York Knicks fans in general.

7. Los Angeles Clippers - Eric Gordon (Indiana)

The Clippers take the best player here, even though they want a point guard. I think Gordon would be a better fit on the Bucks, but the Clippers draft him and get a solid contribution.

8. Milwaukee Bucks - Kevin Love (UCLA)

Milwaukee is not very deep at all in the power forward position, and Love could add some solid depth to this team in that position.

9. Charlotte Bobcats - Roy Hibbert (Georgetown)

The Bobcats take a huge chance on Hibbert, who last year would've been a definite lottery pick. This year, he most likely won't be drafted in the lottery but I think this would be a smart pick for Charlotte. The Bobcats are looking to move Okafor from center to power forward. Hibbert brings a great IQ and the ability to play right away.

10. New Jersey - Danilo Gallinari (Italy)

New Jersey desperately needs another player who can shoot the ball, and Gallinari brings that. He could be a nice backup to Jefferson or Carter on the Nets. Many see Gallinari as a new version of Toni Kukoc, and that is never a bad comparison.

11. Indiana Pacers - D.J. Augustin (Texas)

Indiana gets the point guard they need and one with a great character, something the Pacers organization needs. Augustin is undersized, but what he lacks in size he makes up in heart. Indiana can do no wrong by selecting Augustin with the 11th pick.

12. Sacramento Kings - Anthony Randolph (LSU)

Randolph is long and very athletic, and he could help the Kings as a backup to Spencer Hawes or Mikki Moore. It wouldn't surprise me if Randolph were able to surpass Moore.

13. Portland Trail Blazers - Russell Westbrook (UCLA)

Westbrook would become the backup to Brandon Roy. Westbrook brings a great defensive mind with the ability to make plays as well. If anything were to happen to Roy, Westbrook could definitely be able to step in and produce.

14. Golden State Warriors - Kosta Koufos (Ohio State)

Golden State gets what they usually love in their centers, a tall versatile player who can shoot the ball from anywhere. Koufos could become a definite impact player under Don Nelson's system, which is a run-and-gun style. Koufos also adds the ability to rebound and block some shots, something the Warriors haven't always had.

The Top Ten Best Fanbases In Pro Sports Right Now

Since I recently wrote an article about the top-10 worst fans in sports, I thought it was only right that I did a piece on the 10 best fanbases.

Here is that list:

10. Dallas Mavericks Fans

The Mavericks have boasted the best attendance/capacity percentage out of any team in the NBA every season since 2002-03.

The entrance of owner Mark Cuban brought a brand new fan base that showed as much compassion and intensity as the team's owner had—this season, reaching an astonishing 105.7 percent capacity for each home game.

The American Airlines Center is one of the loudest arenas in the NBA, if not the loudest.

9. Buffalo Sabres Fans

A surprise entrant onto the list, Sabres fans are some of the most loyal in the NHL, many of whom come from Canada nightly to watch the Sabres' home games.

This season, the Sabres finished second in the NHL in both total home attendance average and percent capacity (109.4).

All this for a team that missed the playoffs this past season and didn't play that great hockey until after the midway point.

8. Toronto FC Fans

For a sport that still doesn't have a huge viewing popularity in the United States, it has definitely found a home in Canada. In just its second season in the MLS, Toronto FC has been a financial success thus far, selling out every game they've hosted.

Toronto FC had to cap its season ticket sales this season at 16,000, which is an MLS-high. The sea of red at BMO Field is something that needs to be seen; the fans in Toronto are very loyal to their team and gives the stadium a feel of an English Premier League game.

Fans rain red streamers and other things down on the opposing players whenever they head over to take a corner kick.

Even without a big-name player on the team, Toronto FC has been, huge financially—and a big asset to the MLS.

7. Montreal Canadiens Fans

One of the original six teams in the NHL, the Habs to this day have arguably the biggest following of any NHL team. The Bell Centre, where the Canadiens play, has the largest seating capacity in the entire NHL—and, good or bad, Canadiens fans go to games.

The Canadiens had the largest average home attendance this season, with 100 percent capacity.

Fans seem to live and die based on how the Canadiens perform and follow the team almost religiously.

I guess that's what happens when you play in a hockey haven, as many see it.

6. Washington Redskins Fans

The largest stadium in the NFL also boasts one of the largest capacity percentages of any team in the NFL.

This past season, the Redskins were first in the NFL by averaging just under 89,000 fans per home game and second with a 110 percent capacity.

The most loyal Redskin fans are the Hogettes—some of the best fans in pro sports, even though they're men wearing dresses.

Good or bad, Redskins fans are always there in full force, supporting their team.

5. Boston Red Sox Fans

Love their fans or hate their fans...while many people around the country feel there are too many Sox bandwagoners, nobody can deny how much loyalty comes with a diehard Red Sox fan.

They do play in one of the smallest stadiums in baseball, but Red Sox fans pack Fenway Park to the max and then some. In 2007, the Red Sox averaged 101.4 percent capacity each home game.

For the 86 years that Red Sox fans didn't see a World Series title, they would always say, "our time will come eventually," and it finally did.

Maybe it was a return on being so loyal, even through all those years that the "curse" might've kept the Red Sox and their fans from reaching the top of the mountain.

4. Calgary Flames Fans

When teams make the playoffs they typically hand out t-shirts to every fan coming to the game so the entire arena is sporting the same color.

In Calgary, it isn't just the playoffs that brings a one-colored fan unity throughout the arena.

The thing that is amazing is, instead of red t-shirts, almost every fan at the arena, during every game, has a red Flames jersey.

Calgary Flames fan support is so strong that, even with teams like the Maple Leafs and Canadiens and Sabres and their loyal fans, I give the Flames fans the top spot among NHL fans and Canadian fans in general.

Last season, the Flames ranked first in the NHL with an amazing 112.4 percent capacity.

Good or bad, Flames fans will always be out in full force—with their red Flames jersies, no less.

3. Green Bay Packers Fans

If you're looking to get season tickets for the Green Bay Packers, you'll end up in a waiting list so long you may die with plenty of names still ahead of you.

The Packers, with all their rich football history, have one of the biggest and best fan bases in all of sports. Even in a small town like Green Bay, fans come out in droves.

The most amazing thing is how the Packers always sell out, even if the weather outside is 10 degrees.

Last season, the Packers ranked first in the NFL with a 116.5 percent capacity, which is hard to even fathom.

Even with the retirement of town hero Brett Favre, Packers fans will continue to come out and support this team.

You know the fans are loyal when they are willing to pay yearly to be on a waiting list for season tickets they will most likely never receive.

2. Chicago Cubs Fans

The lovable losers in sports, Chicago Cubs fans have gone 100 years without a World Series title, and that stretch could go on a lot longer before the Cubs finally win one.

The fans, however, are some of, if not the, most loyal fans in sports.

Each year they come into opening day saying "this is our year," and, more often than not, it turns out that it isn't their year, after all.

Even with that, the Cubs have one of the best attendance figures in pro sports. In 2007, the Cubs finished second in the MLB with a 97.7 percent capacity.

That is amazing, especially given a large portion of Cubs home games are during the day—a work or school day, no less.

No Cubs fan can be accused of jumping on the bandwagon because they haven't won anything since the year the Ford Model-T was put on the market.

Keep being loyal, Cubs fans: One day a championship will come, and, when it does, the rest of the sports world will salute you all rather then hiss or boo.

1. Manchester United Fans

When one thinks of loyal fans, not many here in the United States even consider fans across the Atlantic, who are soccer hooligans.

But on this list, they get recognized.

With that said, the No. 1 sports fans right now, in my eyes, are fans of the Manchester United Football Club—or soccer team, for us Americans.

Manchester United fans travel in droves to matches seemingly eveywhere. A great example is yesterday's Champions League final in Moscow, which saw an absurd amount of Man U fans that were there.

Manchester United fans are so loyal, they would fight to the death, it seems, on behalf of their team.

Old Trafford remains a sports landmark, and is always filled to capacity when a Manchester United game is taking place.

Don't think Man U fans are the best? Don't say that to an actual Man U fan in England, or you could be in a world of trouble.

A great example is from the movie "Euro Trip," which shows a group of Man U fans on a bus arrive in Paris, spot a man in a France jersey, and then chase him through the streets.

To me, that is what a Manchester United fan is—and that is why they are the No. 1 fans in sports right now.

The Top 10 Worst Fanbases In Sports Right Now

Since the article came out on Bleacher Report on how Utah fans are disgusting, I thought about doing two articles, one on the worst fans and one for the best fans in all of sports.

To make the list of worst fans, I took into account attendance, bandwagon fans, and mannerisms at the games, among other things.

Here is my list of the top-10 worst fans in all of sports.

Starting with No. 10:

10. Detroit Fans

Blame it on the poor economy in Detroit or blame it on the performance on a couple of teams within the city. But the fans of Detroit make it onto this list.

The Detroit Red Wings are about to clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals and they can't sell out Joe Louis arena even this late into the playoffs. Seats are empty all over the arena, so bad that seats around the glass are empty. The worst part is that many fans have tickets to the game, they just choose not to go, which says it all right there.

The Lions have been horrible for years, but they have also been boo'ed by their own fans for years as well. The boos have become more of an attribute to being a Lions fan, more than cheering.

And who could forget the fight that took place that one fateful night when the Pacers fought the entire Pistons crowd? Many fans are loyal in Detroit, but many are just downright awful.

9. Seattle Fans

It's no surprise the Sonics will be moving away from Seattle; the fans can cry all they want about how they love the Sonics but they don't have much of a case: The Sonics ranked 28th in average attendance this past season.

Bad team or not, if your team is up for being moved to another state, you need to get out there and support them; it didn't do them any good to not show up to the games but then hold protests to keep the Sonics in Seattle.

The Seahawks sell out every game, but then again they are a very good football team. Of course people are going to show up. The Mariners are 18th in avergage attendance this season, filling their ballpark just over 54.5 percent each game. That isn't good at all. Even though they have started off slow, they have a good roster there in Seattle; it's just nobody wants to go to the games to see them.

Instead of sitting around waiting for the Mariners to start playing some solid baseball, why not go to the games now and support them everyday to pump their spirits up a bit?

8. Charlotte Bobcats Fans

You would think a city that lost an NBA team before (the Hornets) would try to change its ways and come out to support the new team that was brought in.

Well, whoever thought that was dead wrong.

The Bobcats ranked 24th in average attendance this past season. Since being given an NBA team again in Charlotte, the Bobcats have been in the bottom ten of NBA attendance since their inception. This looks more like a city that has taken for granted the second chance it received from the NBA and isn't cherishing it.

Sure the team isn't that great, but with a new arena and a new team with a nice young roster, you must get out and support the team; show the NBA you deserved to be given a second chance with an NBA franchise.

7. New Orleans Hornets Fans

Ok, so maybe this isn't fair to put them here because of how down the whole area is after what took place with Hurricane Katrina, but when your team is challenging for an NBA title and can still only manage 26th in average home attendance, then there is a serious problem. Especially when the Saints sell out every home game across the street at the Super Dome.

Maybe New Orleans isn't a basketball city. That's fine, but when the NBA hands you a team because of poor attendance in the previous city, you owe it to the league to show up to the games, not wait till the playoffs to jump on the bandwagon and wear your yellow t-shirts that they hand out to make it look like you have been there all season.

6. Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers Fans

One team just won a Super Bowl and is always one of the best teams in the NFL, the other has some basketball history and plays in one of the nicest arenas in the NBA. What does that equal? Poor attendance for both teams.

The Pacers and Colts were dead last this past season in the NBA and NFL in average attendance. Sure, the Colts play/played in a smaller stadium last year, but even if you go by average capacity each game they were only 25th in the NFL with an average 95.1 percent capacity.

A new change of scenery for the Colts will definitely help attendance next season as they will be moving into a brand new stadium. The Pacers could be in trouble fan-wise, especially if they continue to miss the playoffs in the weak Eastern Conference.

5. Arizona Fans

Some of the best sports venues in the country are in Arizona, as well as a couple very good teams in the Suns and the Diamondbacks. The Suns have no problem selling out as they are the jewel of Arizona sports.

The D-backs, however, even with a World Series title and the current best record in MLB, get no respect from Arizona fans, sitting at 17th in average attendance, filling Chase Field each game to 56.7 percent capacity.

The Phoenix Coyotes, even with a brand new facility that is incredible in Westgate, were 29th out of 30 NHL teams in average attendance, and that is with a young improved roster that challenged for a playoff spot most of the season. There is a problem when fans show up wanting to see Wayne Gretzky stand on the bench rather than the actual hockey game that's taking place.

The Cardinals have always been the joke of Arizona sports, but are now improving and, with a new stadium, brought fan support, but how long until the fans start leaving because the team isn't winning anything? My guess would be this season, especially since last season attendance fell toward the end of the season when the Cards were out of playoff contention.

Arizona fans are some of the biggest bandwagon fans in the country, I feel; many will talk about how they love the teams but then say they never attend the games—that's a problem.

4. Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Hawks Fans

The winner for biggest bandwagon jump of the season I think goes to the fans of the Atlanta Hawks, rarely selling out their arena if at all the entire season was a problem, but finally, when the team made the playoffs for the first time in nine years, the fans came.

What I found funny was how into the game the fans were; where were they at the beginning of the season when the Hawks weren't in the playoff race?

The Atlanta Braves have been successful for years, but maybe their fans got a little too greedy. When the team struggles to sell tickets for the NLDS, there may be a problem of greedy fans that only expect the best.

Now that the Braves are not guaranteed a playoff spot, will fans stop showing up? The question is up in the air, as the Braves average only a 59-percent capacity rate at home games thus far this season.

3. Philadelphia Fans

No doubt about it, Philly sports fans are very loyal to their teams; it's the way they act at the events that gets them on this list.

Cheering for opposing team player injuries, shouting obscenities at players and other negative items are just some of the attributes that Philly fans are known by. Its one thing to cheer for an opposing player who gets up after being injured, it's another to cheer when the player gets hurt.

One memory that comes to mind is when Michael Irvin hurt his neck at the old Eagles stadium, Philly fans stood up and cheered the injury. This might've been because it was the Cowboys the Eagles were playing, but either way its wrong.

For such great and loyal sports fans the respect of Philly fans goes down for many because of their behavior at games, not because of their loyalty to their teams.

2. New York Fans

Many fans in New York are seen as bandwagon fans; I find it hard to believe that you could honestly be a fan of both the Yankees and Mets or the Giants and Jets, but many New Yorkers pull this off.

Many New Yorkers are accused of being bandwagon fans, and those could be rightful statements, especially when a Mets fan may jump from the their team to the Yankees when the playoffs come around and their team may not be in it anymore, but another New York team is.

Not many places can say they house so many sports teams, but New York does; it's a shame because there are many great fans in New York, they just get accused of cheering for the wrong reasons.

If the Yankees weren't good, would fans still show up to their games? New York fans much like Atlanta Braves fans expect too much from their teams when in reality their teams aren't the best at any of the sports.

The Knicks haven't won in decades, yet there is such a demand to win now. Now with the Giants winning the Super Bowl, how many Jets fans do you think were cheering for the Giants because it was New York? I am sure quite a few were.

Don't get me wrong, many New York Fans are great, but they can't cross over from team to team because to me, as a New Yorker, I dislike the Mets and the Jets and I could never cheer for either of those teams should the Yankees or the Giants not be in the playoffs when the other two teams are.

1. Los Angeles Fans

I guess the term "come early and stay late" doesn't apply to L.A. fans, as many come late and leave early. In one of the most famous video footage in sports history, Kirk Gibson hobbling around the bases after hiting that pinch-hit homer in the 1988 World Series, the fact it is still talked about how you could see cars leaving the ballpark rather than the homer is very embarrassing.

L.A. fans can be very loyal, but how loyal can you be when many of your fans are Hollywood-ites just looking for a photo op. or there for a night out on the town?

When one team averages a larger home attendance than another team in the same sport that plays in the same arena, there could be a sense of being a bandwagon.

For a city that desperately wants a football team back, fans in LA are going to have to show more loyalty to their teams than just showing up whenever and leaving early to make sure they beat the parking lot traffic.

Sports are great, but it's a shame when fans become bandwagon fans or don't appreciate the sport in general, because at any time the team and the sport could be pulled from your city and shipped somewhere else, just like that.

Just ask the fans of the Seattle Sonics, or even the Montreal Expos.

NFL: Post-Draft Power Rankings 1-10

Is it ever too early to talk about the NFL here in the United States?

Some may say it is, but football is what fuels many Americans' sports needs.

Here are my NFL power rankings from spots 1-10, because it's never too early to talk about football.

Is it?

1. New York Giants

Let's be realistic, are they the best team in the NFL? No, but they are the world champions and that counts for something. Still, that is why they automatically get the No. 1 ranking in these power rankings. I don't believe champions should be anywhere but No. 1 before a season begins.

2. New England Patriots

Last year's runner-up may be getting older, but much like a fine wine I think the Pats will be extremely good this upcoming season. They may not go 16-0 in the regular season, but they are currently the front runner in the AFC. A trip back to the Super Bowl wouldn't surprise anybody.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars

Yes, this team is better than the Chargers and the Colts. Garrard was a very steady quarterback last season, and Jones-Drew and Taylor are an amazing one-two punch. Don't forget, Jacksonville's defense is very good and only got better this offseason. I believe they offer the best competition to the Patriots in the AFC.

4. San Diego Chargers

Phillip Rivers and LT will hopefully be able to keep their arguments on the sidelines to a minimum this season. Injuries last season, especially in the playoffs, derailed their chances. With a healthy lineup, this is a very scary team.

5. Dallas Cowboys

Is this going to be the year the Cowboys win a playoff game? The Cowboys haven't seen a victory in the playoffs since the days of Aikman playing quarterback. They are bringing back the same roster, minus Julius Jones. Time will tell if this is the year that they have a breakthrough in the playoffs.

6. Indianapolis Colts

Much like the Patriots, this team is getting older in many key areas. They do have some great young talent to help the veterans. Offseason trouble for Marvin Harrison could play a big role in what kind of season he has.

7. Seattle Seahawks

Beneficiaries of a weak division, the Seahawks are also very consistent. Since departing with former team leader Shaun Alexander, the Seahawks picked up Julius Jones. The Seahawks are looking to win the NFC West once again, but it could be tough with the improvement of the Cardinals.

8. Pittsburgh Steelers

After a season that saw the Steelers lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars at home in the playoffs, the Steelers return with an attitude of "let's get some revenge on the rest of the league." The Steelers drafted a bull in Rashard Mendenhall to back up Willie Parker.

9. Cleveland Browns

The Browns were a huge success last season, only just barely missing the playoffs. Derek Anderson remains the starter, but with Brady Quinn waiting in the wings, is it possible that everything Anderson does will be under the microscope? One bad game and the reins could be handed to Quinn. The Browns will also look to have another great season from Jamal Lewis, who had a sort of a comeback last season after being written off by many analysts coming into last season.

10. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers and their eight quarterbacks look to build on a solid season last year. Tampa's defense is just as solid as it has been in recent years but it is getting older. The offense isn't bad, but it could use another receiver to step up other than grizzled veteran Joey Galloway. The Bucs should be able to win the NFC South division title once again, unless Carolina plays up to their standards this coming season.

NBA: D'Antoni Heads To The City That Never Sleeps, Whats Next For The Suns?

Now that it has been made pretty much official, Mike D'Antoni has left the Phoenix Suns and has signed on as the head coach of the New York Knickerbockers for a reported four-year deal at $24 million.

D'Antoni looks to turn around a franchise that has been on the decline for pretty much five years now.

D'Antoni leaves behind a team in Phoenix that is getting older by the day but can still run when they want. They do, however, have a player that seems to be on his last leg in Shaq.

So what's next for the Suns?

Where do they turn for their next head coach?

Do they turn to a more defensive-minded coach or a coach who fits the same style of play the current Suns enjoy?

Here are some options I feel the Suns will choose among for a future head coach.

Eddie Johnson

The Suns' color commentator could be given a chance to interview due to his vast knowledge of the game. EJ never passed up a shot during his playing days and would definitely fit the Suns' up-tempo style.

The problem is his lack of coaching experience. The Suns could sign him on as an assistant and groom him for the future.

Dan Majerle

One of the valley's favorite athletes of all time could also be in consideration for an interview. Majerle, like Johnson, has literally no experience in coaching and could just be placed as an assistant for the future.

Like EJ, Majerle enjoys the offensive end, but he does know a thing or two about playing defense. That is something the Suns need.

Paul Westphal

The former Suns coach from the 1992-93 season could be brought back, as he comes from a style the Suns are used to. He also coaches the defensive end as well.

The Suns could go in this direction if there aren't many other options. Westphal would most likely be a longshot for the job, but he should definitely be considered.

Avery Johnson

Avery could get a lot of consideration from the Suns. He would also fit the Suns' style. I don't necessarily want to see him come to the Suns, but I think the Suns will take a look at him.

Johnson enjoys the offensive end, but he also emphasizes the defensive end. His problem in Dallas was that nobody wanted to play defense.

Doug Collins

He is good friends with GM Steve Kerr, and he seems to be a coach that Kerr would want. Collins has said he isn't interested, but he might change his mind if Kerr comes calling, which I think he will.

Paul Silas

A former Suns assistant, Silas could be a longshot for the job but might get a phone call from Kerr asking about the position.

Silas would definitely bring out the best in Amare, as he brought the best out of Barkley during his time in the valley. Barkley has always talked about how he loved Silas for it.

Tom Thibodeau

The current Celtics assistant seems to be the hottest candidate who isn't a head coach in the market right now. He interviewed with the Suns to be an assistant to D'Antoni, but D'Antoni chose Jay Humphries.

Kerr didn't approve of that move, but he went ahead with it anyway. Thibodeau is a defensive minded coach, but maybe that is what the Suns need to be a championship team.

Alvin Gentry

He could be the No. 1 candidate for the Suns right now. Because he is currently a Suns assistant coach, Gentry could come in for a lot less money than a high-profile coach. He also comes in with the same mindset as D'Antoni, which might be something the players would enjoy, especially for practices.

Kerr might decide to go in a different direction because he might not want a D'Antoni prototype running the team. Still, Gentry will be given consideration.

Steve Kerr

Yes, you read right. I believe Steve Kerr could ultimately express interest in the job and try to persuade upper management to give him a chance as coach. This is my darkhorse pick, but I think it could happen given Kerr's ego and his belief that he could succeed at anything he does. It wouldn't be the first time the Suns had a GM/Head Coach, the last to do this was Mike D'Antoni.

The Suns have a long summer ahead of them in their search for a new head coach. Do they go offensive-minded like D'Antoni, or do they look for a slower approach with a defensive mind?

This will be an interesting summer in the valley of the sun, one that could change the way basketball has been played here for over four years.

Maybe that's what the Suns need after all, a change of pace, a change of attitude.

More importantly, they need attitude and to play some defense.

NBA Playoffs: Western Conference Predictions

Well, my Eastern Conference predictions came up chalk as one would most likely guess, the West will prove to be a little tougher as every team in the West had 50 wins this season which is amazing.

None the less, here are my first round predictions for the Western Conference.

(1) LA Lakers vs. (8) Denver: LA Lakers Win Series 4-1

This series is definitely a star studded affair.

AI, Kobe, Gasol, Anthony, Camby, Odom, Martin, we definitely won't be seeing any low scoring contests in this series.

With the recent happenings for the Denver Nuggets Carmelo Anthony one would think that would distract the team especially around playoff time.

Well, I don't think that will, the thing I see being a problem is the Nuggets being able to stop Kobe from going off on them.

The Lakers are very good even without Andrew Bynum who's status is still uncertain.

The key in this series is going to be the role players for the Lakers, will they be able to step up when it matters most?

I see the Lakers slipping once in Denver but winning the series in five games.

(2) New Orleans vs. (7) Dallas: Dallas Wins Series 4-3

This series for a No. 2 vs No. 7 is very even if you ask me.

Both teams have star players, one team is young (the Hornets) the other has a bigger veteran presence (Dallas)

Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks definitely don't want to be sent home packing early like they did last season.

Especially after acquiring Jason Kidd.

I see Dallas overcoming the questions surrounding them coming into the playoffs and defeating a vastly improved Hornets team from last year.

That is the difference between the Season and the Playoffs, Dallas is more playoff ready and will show that as they win game 7 in New Orleans and take the series.

(3) San Antonio vs. (6) Phoenix: Phoenix Wins Series 4-2

In what many thought would be a Western Conference Finals matchup the firsts round pits to teams that have a nice playoff rivalry going.

The Suns seem ready to make a playoff run now with Shaq in the middle.

Is this team now built for the playoffs, especially with their new half-court offensive sets that they have?

I definitely think so.

San Antonio definitely will counter especially with Bruce Bowen who time and time again proves to be a Suns killer.

As long as none of the Suns get hip checked into outer space in this series I think this is the year the Suns get by the Spurs in the playoffs.

Get ready to have a new NBA Champion this season as the Spurs will be eliminated in the first round by the Suns in six games.

(4) Utah vs. (5) Houston: Houston Wins Series 4-3

Utah is the No. 4 seed but will start off on the road due to the rule the NBA added which I still don't understand.

If you win your division you should automatically get home court advantage in the first round.

Either way this will hurt Utah, who had the best W-L record at home out of the entire NBA. Utah starts on the road where they were anything but great this season.

This plays into Houston's advantage, as T-Mac is front and center again this year on will he be able to get past the first round?

I think so, T-Mac is a great player still, obviously, even though he sometimes looks to be in his late 30's.

The one thing that will be key for Houston is free throw shooting, as a team Houston struggles and that will definitely need some work if they expect to get passed Utah.

Utah has the advantage at the PG position especially with Rockets guard Rafer "Skip to my Lou" Alston missing the first couple of games with a hammy injury.

If the Rockets can contain Utah long enough I see them winning game seven at home and advancing.

Mark my word, the home team will win every game of this series.

Recap:

(1) LA Lakers 4-1

(5) Houston 4-3

(6) Phoenix 4-2

(7) Dallas 4-3

NBA Playoffs: Eastern Conference Predictions

The NBA Playoffs are here. They may not be as tough as the NHL's Stanley Cup Playoffs, but don't tell that to Steve Nash who got hip-checked by Robert Horry last year, or Kobe who got clotheslined not too long ago by Raja Bell.

The NBA Playoffs are tough.

Here are my first round predictions for the Eastern Conference:

(1) Boston vs. (8) Atlanta: Boston Wins Series 4-0

In what will be the first playoff appearance since the 1998-1999 season, the Atlanta Hawks get drawn with the No. 1 seed Celtics.

I don't see Atlanta's stay in the playoffs being a long one, as Boston is too strong defensively and too deep to let Atlanta hang anywhere around them.

The one advantage Atlanta has is at point guard. Mike Bibby, who I feel is one of the most underrated point guards in the NBA, has the edge over Rondo and Cassell.

KG, Pierce, and Allen prove to be too much for Atlanta to handle as Boston moves on relatively easily in four games.

(2) Detroit vs. (7) Philadelphia: Detroit Wins Series 4-1

This is another series that I don't see being very close in four out of the five games.

I do see Philly getting at least one win at home in this series because of players like Andre Iguodala.

76'ers coach Maurice Cheeks will have his relatively young team ready for the playoffs, but Detroit and their veterans over-match the young 76'ers.

Detroit, much like Boston, has too many weapons and will advance even though they will lose a game.

Billups, Hamilton, and the rest of the gang are ready to make that NBA Finals push once again. Pistons advance in five games.

(3) Orlando vs. (6) Toronto: Orlando Wins Series 4-2

In what will be a very competitive series, especially between Chris Bosh and Dwight Howard, this one will come down to who can get that big win on the road when it matters.

I see Orlando coming up big when it matters most and winning Game 6 in Toronto to clinch the series.

Dwight Howard is a monster and I think he will wear down Chris Bosh because of how physical he can actually get.

Orlando advances in six games.

(4) Cleveland vs. (5) Washington: Cleveland Wins Series 4-2

For another year we get to see Cleveland and Washington paired up in the first round. This is becoming a nice playoff rivalry, even though Cleveland has gotten the upper-hand on Washington.

Recent comments by Charles Barkley got the Wizards riled up, so we'll see how hard they come out for Game 1.

LeBron James is coming off a season where he led the NBA in scoring at 30 PPG. I think he is going to have to get 30-35 a game in this series for Cleveland to advance.

Washington is stacked with Butler and Jamison and Arenas being back, but I see LeBron being too much for them to handle, especially in the later stages of games where LeBron always seems to shine.

I see Cleveland advancing in six games. Their prize for advancing will be to meet up with the No. 1 seed Boston Celtics.

Recap

(1) Boston 4-0

(2) Detroit 4-1

(3) Orland0 4-2

(4) Cleveland 4-2

2008 Conn Smythe Winner: Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers

When one thinks of the New York Rangers and their chances of going far in the playoffs most peoples first thoughts would be that they will go as far as goaltender Henrik Lundqvist will take them.

This is why he is my choice for the Conn Smythe in these Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Lundqvist was in the top 10 of virtually every statistical category among goaltenders during the 2007-2008 season which included being 1st in total shutouts with 10 and 5th in wins among others.

In just 3 full seasons in the league Lundqvist has already tallied 104 wins while playing more games in each season compared to his rookie year in 2005-2006.

Not to mention he won a gold medal for Sweden in the 2006 Olympic games becoming the youngest goaltender to ever lead his team to a gold medal.

He is seen as a guy who turned a franchise around that hadn't appeared in the postseason since Mike Richter was the netminder in what seems so long ago.

Henrik Lundqvist in my opinion is a top 5 NHL Goalie but many might put him on the outside of that in their 6-8 range.

These playoffs will be Lundqvist coming out party, although he is one of the best goalies in the world he is not yet put in the same group as Brodeur, Luongo and Kiprusoff.

The Rangers even with future hall of famers like Jaromir Jagr and Brendan Shanahan are depending on their young goaltender, he's only 26 years old, to guide them through the playoffs.

Especially with what many see as a young defense that include Marc Staal and Daniel Girardi the pressure is on Lundqvist even more to literally stand on his head if need be to make saves.

He proved he is capable of this in last nights game 1 victory vs. New Jersey in which Henrik made 26 saves on 27 shots including a save right on the doorstep that was included as a top play nominee on SportsCenter.

So if you are looking for a player who is a game changer and is already a proven winner in such a short time look no further then Henrik Lundqvist, your 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs Conn Smythe Winner.

NHL Playoffs: A Look at the Eastern Conference

Since I have examined the Western Conference here are my predictions for the Eastern Conference side of the playoffs.

1st Round

(1) Montreal Canadiens vs. (8) Boston Bruins: Montreal Wins Series 4-1

In a battle of original six teams, and also bitter rivals, the Canadiens dominated the Bruins this entire season; I don't think this series will be much different. The series will be physical, but Boston doesn't have the players right now to get past Montreal and their solid offense and defense.

Carey Price should be able to get accustomed to being in the playoffs by playing solid hockey and not allowing Boston to get many goals in on him.

The return of Bergeron does mean Boston will get at least one win in this series to make up for their 0-8-0 record against Montreal this past season.

Montreal advances to the next round in five games.

(2) Pittsburgh Penguins vs. (7) Ottawa Senators: Pittsburgh Wins Series 4-2

In a rematch of last season's playoff series that saw Ottawa eliminate Pittsburgh, I see the opposite happening this year as Pittsburgh is more mature this season.

Crosby will guide the Pens past a Senators team that isn't too sure how their captain, Daniel Alfredsson, will fair due to a knee injury he suffered not too long ago.

Pittsburgh and their young studs will guide the Pens to the next round of the playoffs even with a shaky goaltender in Marc-Andre Fleury.

Pens advance in six games.

(3) Washington Capitals vs. (6) Philadelphia Flyers: Washington Wins Series 4-2

The NHL has their version of Cinderella in this postseason in Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. Although they are a No. 3 seed, many see them as an underdog vs. a Flyers team that jumped from eighth to sixth on the last day of the season.

I see Ovechkin shining in his first ever playoffs as he will guide the Caps past the Flyers in this series.

Goalie Cristobal Huet has been playing well since his trade from Montreal to Washington, and I see that continuing in this series.

Washington shows why they shouldn't be overlooked as they advance in six games.

(4) New Jersey Devils vs. (5) New York Rangers: New York Wins Series 4-2

In what should be the most physical series of all the first round playoff games, bitter Atlantic Division foes will be put up against one another.

The Rangers got the upper hand in the regular season series taking seven out of the eight games. The one loss came on the last day of the season in a shootout.

Questions facing New York are: Will Henrik Lundqvist be as sharp as possible in these playoffs? Will Jaromir Jagr wake up from his season-long slumber for the playoffs?

If Jagr is able to play at the level he is known to play at the Rangers will go far. They do have a tough time defeating Devils goalie Martin Brodeur, but I see them getting past him in this round.

Rangers advance in six games.

Eastern Conference Semi-Finals

(1) Montreal Canadiens vs. (5) New York Rangers: New York Wins Series 4-3

In another battle between original six teams that also feature great young goaltending, this will definitely be an exciting series.

Carey Price will play some great goalie in these playoffs, but I see Lundqvist getting the upper hand on him. I still see Price as being one season away from becoming the Patrick Roy replica that Montreal fans believe he could turn into.

The Rangers are a lot tougher this time around compared to last season and will show that against Montreal. Their defense will shutdown Kovalev and will break down the Canadiens defense.

Montreal must avoid committing penalties if they don't want to have their backs against the wall because the Rangers have a pretty solid power play.

The Rangers shock the hockey world and defeat Montreal at the Bell Centre in Game 7 to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

(2) Pittsburgh Penguins vs. (3) Washington Capitals: Pittsburgh Wins Series 4-1

In a matchup that the NHL could only dream of, Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin go head to head against one another in this series.

Crosby has had the upper hand in previous games, and I don't see much change in this series. Pittsburgh has too much fire power for Washington to contain them.

Ovechkin is going to need from more players than just Nicklas Backstrom if he wants to guide this team on. I don't see that happening.

Cinderella ends here as Sid the kid gets his Penguins to the Eastern Conference Finals by winning the series in five games.

Eastern Conference Finals

(2) Pittsburgh Penguins vs. (5) New York Rangers: New York Wins Series 4-2

In a matchup between Atlantic Division rivals, this will be a very entertaining series.

By this point, the Rangers will be on a magic ride through the playoffs that won't end here.

If the Rangers don't let anybody other then Crosby take over they should be in good shape. As good as Sidney is, I don't think he can win this series on his own.

Henrik Lundqvist continues to prove why he should be placed in the top five goalies in the NHL today.

The Rangers and their newly inspired captain, Jaromir Jagr, win this series in six games and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals where they will meet the defending champs, the Anaheim Ducks.

Eastern Conference Playoff MVP:

Henrik Lundqvist, Goalie, New York Rangers

Recap

1st Round:

(1) Montreal Canadiens

(2) Pittsburgh Penguins

(3) Washington Capitals

(5) New York Rangers

Semi-Finals:

(2) Pittsburgh Penguins

(5) New York Rangers

Conference Finals:

(5) New York Rangers

NHL Playoffs: A Look at the Western Conference

What many call the toughest postseason to get through physically and mentally is finally upon us. The Stanley Cup playoffs are here and there are many matchups that will be exciting in both the Western and Eastern Conferences.

Will Detroit finally get back to the Stanley Cup Finals?

Will Ovechkin and Crosby meet up in the playoffs?

Could the Finals be between two of the original six teams?

Nobody knows for sure, but here are my selections from the Western Conference from the first round all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals.

1st Round

(1) Detroit Red Wings vs. (8) Nashville Predators: Detroit Wins Series 4-1

In a series that will see two rivals from the same division go at it, it appears from first glance that Detroit will run away with it quite easily.

I don't think it will be easy, although I do have a 4-1 series for Detroit. I think it will be really competitive.

The Predators are a team that was almost forced to move out of Nashville due to lack of attendance. They also seemed to clean house a bit this past offseason, but have returned to the playoffs nevertheless.

Detroit is led by their solid defense with Lidstrom and Rafalski and the goaltending of Hasek and Osgood.

The question is, will Detroit's European leadership be able to hold up in the grind that is the Stanley Cup Playoffs?

We will see. I have Detroit moving on in five games.

(2) San Jose Sharks vs. (7) Calgary Flames: San Jose Wins Series 4-2

In a series that will be extremely competitive and very physical I see San Jose escaping and moving on, led by the goaltending of Evgeni Nabokov.

The question is, will Joe Thornton show up for or will he fall flat like he has typically done in past postseasons?

Calgary comes with some superstars of their own including 50-goal Captain Jarome Iginla. Calgary is a very dangerous team; it wouldn't surprise me if they upset San Jose in this series.

I just think that Nabokov will be able to hold off Calgary long enough in games that San Jose will escape with wins.

San Jose advances in six games.

(3) Minnesota Wild vs. (6) Colorado Avalanche: Colorado Wins Series 4-3

In a battle between Northwest rivals, this series will be another physical one.

How far Colorado can go is based on Peter Forsberg's health during the playoffs. He has always been a player who becomes an instant difference-maker in the postseason.

I don't see much difference here as the Avalanche play their best when it matters the most. They will win game seven on the road.

Colorado advances in seven games.

(4) Anaheim Ducks vs. (5) Dallas Stars: Anaheim Wins Series 4-1

Anaheim returns once again to defend its title with what seems to be a better roster than they had the previous season. That is a scary thought.

The return of Niedermayer and Selanne helped push Anaheim to the next level after the mid point of the season and will continue to help them in the playoffs.

Dallas goalie, Marty Turco, will play well, but Dallas has been struggling lately. I don't see them being able to get much offense going against this solid defensive squad.

Anaheim advances in five games.

Western Conference Semi-Finals

(1) Detroit Red Wings vs. (6) Colorado Avalanche: Detroit Wins Series 4-2

What was once a bitter rivalry in the playoffs will take place once again when the Red Wings and Avalanche meet. They have had some memorable series in the past and this one should be no different.

The European leaders on Detroit continue to surprise everyone and play a physical style of hockey without getting hurt.

Hasek and Osgood will be the determining factor. Although Colorado has two goalies, Jose Theodore and Peter Budaj, they don't know what to expect from either one on any night. Anything can happen.

Detroit shows that they shouldn't be seen as an underrated No. 1 seed and advance to the Western Conference Finals in six games.

(2) San Jose Sharks vs. (4) Anaheim Ducks: Anaheim Wins Series 4-3

In a battle between Pacific Division rivals, this series will be one for the books, with two world class goalies, two solid defenses, and two game-changers on offense.

I see Anaheim's physicality being too much for San Jose to handle in a seven game series; it will finally catch up to them in the seventh and deciding game. Anaheim will go into San Jose and pull out the win on the road.

Anaheim's defense continues on in seven games.

Western Conference Finals

(1) Detroit Red Wings vs. (4) Anaheim Ducks: Anaheim Wins Series 4-2

In a rematch of last season's Western Conference Finals, the same script will be repeated with the Ducks will advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals once again.

Their leadership is too good and too valuable to do any harm to the team. Plus Giguere is always in a world of his own when the postseason comes around.

Detroit puts up a fight but Anaheim proves to be too physical for them as they become tired and overpowered as the series goes on.

Anaheim wins their second consecutive Clarence S. Campbell Bowl and advances to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Western Conference Playoff MVP: Jean Sebastian Giguere, Goalie, Anaheim Ducks

Review

First Round:

(1) Detroit Red Wings

(2) San Jose Sharks

(4) Anaheim Ducks

(6) Colorado Avalanche

Western Conference Semi-Finals:

(1) Detroit Red Wings

(4) Anaheim Ducks

Western Conference Finals:

(4) Anaheim Ducks

Suns-Mavericks: Phoenix Loses...But Clinches Playoff Spot

In a day that started with what many would call a huge collapse against Dallas, only scoring nine points in the fourth quarter in a 105-98 loss to Dallas, the Suns definitely had their heads down.

At the end of the night though, their frowns might have turned into smirks as the Phoenix Suns clinched a playoff spot tonight.

Even after blowing what was a 13-point fourth quarter lead to the Mavericks that saw the Suns get outscored 27-9 in the quarter, their attitudes were lifted a bit later on when Denver lost in OT to Seattle, thus clinching a playoff spot for the Suns.

The loss however, moves the Suns from fifth to sixth in the Western Conference and what would be a matchup with Pacific Division rival LA Lakers.

The Suns seemed to be on top of their game as Mike D'Antoni pointed out and then, "the lights went out, and for whatever reason we couldn't get back in it."

The Suns seemed to leave the court after this afternoon's game more in disbelief then in anger.

Amare Stoudemire led the Suns in scoring with 31 and Shaquille O'Neal added 13 points and 13 boards for the Suns which led most of the way until the late stages of the fourth quarter.

Dirk Nowitzki, playing on literally one leg seemed like a man ready to carry the team on his back scoring 32 points and getting 12 rebounds.

The clincher for Dallas was late in the game when Dirk drove to the basket and seemed to be slipping all over the place, but he picked up his composure and put up a one-legged jumpshot over the outstretched arms of Grant Hill shutting the door on the Suns.

"I stumbled about 18 times," Nowitzki said, "But I was able to gather myself right at the end. Just that one little step at the end was all I needed, and I was able to knock it down. Definitely a little luck there, but we needed every second of it.”

Grant Hill seemed to put the way the Suns played best when he said, "It's kind of like when you have a sugar high and crash."

That definitely seems to be what the Suns had, but will that crash translate into more losses before the playoffs come around?

Can the Suns rebound after this tough loss and get back in it for the next game?

Chances are yes, the Suns head to Memphis on Tuesday for a game against the lonely Grizzlies.

It doesn't get easier after that game though as the Suns then head to San Antonio and then Houston before finally heading back home to face Golden State.

The Suns definitely need to forget this game as soon as possible because if they can't, it could be a rough stretch for them heading into the playoffs.

Time will only tell if this Suns team full of veterans can rebound and move on.

With the playoffs right around the corner they are going to have to or else it will be a short stay for them in the playoffs.

Euro 2008: A Look Ahead to the Tournament

As the summer approaches and with the Olympics right around the corner we can't forget about the second biggest Soccer tournament in the world.

Euro 2008.

With one major powerhouse missing from the tournament, that being England. How will the rest of the tournament play out?

Here are my predictions of the 8 teams that will advance from group play to the knockout rounds.

Group A

Czech Republic

Portugal (Euro 2004 Runner Up)

Switzerland

Turkey

Group Winner: Portugal

Group Runner Up: Czech Republic

In a group that has two of the major powerhouses in the world and one of the host nations this group could be interesting.

Czech Republic and Portugal are the obvious favorites to advance from here but don't sleep on Switzerland or Turkey.

Switzerland is a host nation in this tournament and host nations tend to do pretty well because of the home field advantage they receive.

Turkey is another team that is dangerous because of how aggressive they can prove to be when needed.

I still see Portugal and Czech Republic advancing from this group as the Czechs have a lot to prove since their early World Cup dismissal and Portugal looks for some revenge since losing in the final of Euro 2004.

Group B

Austria

Croatia

Germany

Poland

Group Winner: Germany

Group Runner Up: Austria

In what looks to be the weakest of the four groups I see Germany running away with this group by getting the full 9 points that can be received.

Their battle with Poland could be a very competitive match that could even turnout in a draw but I see Germany being able to go 3-0-0 here.

Austria, the second of the two host nations, like Switzerland will get a huge home advantage and that will push them through to the knockout round. They are a very good squad and could defeat any of those teams except Germany.

Poland and Croatia are quality teams that I don't think are playing their best soccer at this time, with so much time till the tournament begins things could change I just don't see it happening though.

Croatia and Poland will battle for who gets to be third in the group and who is the cellar dweller from Group B.

Group C

France (World Cup 2006 Runner Up)

Italy (Reigning World Cup 2006 Champions)

Netherlands

Romania

Group Winner: Italy

Group Runner Up: Netherlands

In a group that is arguably the toughest in the tournament next to Group D, Group C contains three world class teams and a Romanian squad that is on their way back up since falling so far since World Cup 94.

France has not been playing their best soccer since Zinedine Zidane retired from international play, they just don't have an offensive explosion even with Thierry Henry on the squad.

They struggled to get into the Group Play portion of this tournament as they barely snuck in over Israel. I see them continuing to struggle in this tournament and will not advance from this group.

Italy is the defending World Cup Champion and always play tough in big tournaments like this, I don't see it any different as Italy shows why they won World Cup 2006 and will win this group.

The wave of Orange for the Netherlands will be out in full force at this tournament. Netherlands fans always travel well and can turn a road or a neutral site game into a home field advantage for the Netherlands. Netherlands I feel is too quick for France and Romania and should advance to the knockout round.

Romania has been on the rise since having a bit of downfall since their good performance at World Cup 94. They won't advance from this group but will be competitive with these international giants in their group.

Group D

Greece (Euro 2004 Champions)

Russia

Spain

Sweden

Group Winner: Spain

Group Runner Up: Greece

In the second of two power groups in this tournament, it contains the reigning Euro Champs in Greece. I see Greece sneaking by in a very competitive group and moving onto the knockout portion. Spain is playing great soccer right now and will win this group.

Russia, the team that knocked England out of advancing to this portion of the tournament is still a very underrated squad, they can surprise teams in this tournament but I don't feel they will have enough and will finish fourth in this group.

Sweden is a team that you can never predict how they will do, they are either very good or very average and in this stage I see them coming out as a very average team.

They could sneak past Greece and advance to the knockout stage but I just don't think they have it in them to have a breakout game over Spain or Greece.

Greece is the reigning champs of this tournament and should be able to defend their title in the knockout stage of the tournament. I don't know that if playing in what I thought was a relatively easy qualifying group will cost them in this tournament but they play great defense and can pounce quickly on offense. Coach Otto Rehhagel will have his team filled with veterans ready to play.

Spain is an extremely dangerous team and could prove to be the dark horse once advancing to the knockout stage. With tournament tested players and solid goalkeeping this team could go very far in this tournament. I see them getting 7-9 points from this group and advancing to the next stage.

Review of Picks

Group A: Portugal, Czech Republic

Group B: Germany, Austria

Group C: Italy, Netherlands

Group D: Spain, Greece

Players To Watch

Petr Cech, Goalkeeper, Czech Republic

Cristiano Ronaldo, Attacker, Portugal

Miroslav Klose, Attacker, Germany

Thierry Henry, Attacker France

Djibril Cisse, Attacker, France

Marco Materazzi, Defender, Italy

Fabio Cannavaro, Defender, Italy

Gianluigi Buffon, Goalkeeper, Italy

Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Attacker, Netherlands

Edwin Van Der Sar, Goalkeeper, Netherlands

Angelos Charisteas, Attacker, Greece

Angelos Basinas, Midfielder, Greece

Iker Casillas, Goalkeeper, Spain

Xavi Hernandez, Midfielder, Spain

Arizona Blues: Can the Diamondbacks Bring in Fans This Season?

"It was like 60-40 Diamondbacks fans to Cubs fan" and "it was crickets out there, I remember that."

Those are the words of Diamondbacks pitcher Doug Davis during the 2007 season which included the playoffs.

The Diamondbacks, full of youth and excitement could barely manage to have more fans at their own home playoff game against the Chicago Cubs last season, and that’s not even where the trouble begins.

Even after a NLDS win the D-backs still had a hard time selling out for their NLCS vs. the Rockies with 16,000 seats still remaining for the first game of the series. The team eventually sold out the tickets but it came down to the wire.

The Diamondbacks have struggled to get a loyal fan support for what seems to be all of their existence. Last season was almost a new low for the franchise, according to ESPN.com they ranked 20th in the MLB in avg. attendance for a home game with 28,598 and also ranked 20th in percentage of the stadium filled at 58.3 percent.

The percentage of fans that fills the ballpark has gone up every year since 2005 when it was at 51.9 percent. But moving up by less than 7 percent while winning more games each year, is a definite problem.

The Diamondbacks can't figure out the reason why they can't get more fans to attend home games on an everyday basis and not just for big name teams. They offer some of the cheapest tickets in the entire MLB with some tickets as low as $6 a game.

Phoenix, the 8th largest market in the United States, doesn’t struggle to fill the arena for the Suns. So why is it so hard to fill the stadium for a team that has actually won a championship and is located less than 200 yards across the street from one another?

Arizona, which also hosts the Cactus League for spring training sets attendance records every season but can't seem to do the same during the regular season for the Diamondbacks. D-backs players don't know the answers to these questions, all they know is if they win they expect more fans to show up.

Realistically if you have a winner, people will show up, unless you are the Yankees, Red Sox ,or Cubs who always sell out.

But what is this team going to do if this becomes a consistent theme where winning doesn't equal fan support?

It's bad enough that they are sometimes the road team in their own ballpark based on the fans that show up to support the other team. Hopefully that can change this season. The D-backs are young, talented and exciting to watch; not to mention they play in one of the nicest facilities in the MLB.

Hopefully, something will change.

Because if there is no change with the fans, MLB might have to make a drastic decision.

NCAA Basketball: 49 Down, 16 Teams Remain, Who Will Advance?

With 16 teams remaining, only three are Cinderella teams. Well, technically two...I don't see Villanova as a Cinderella even if they are a 12 seed. They play in a power conference.

Besides that, here are my picks of winners in the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 to advance from each region to the Final Four in San Antonio, Texas.

East Region:

(1) North Carolina vs. (4) Washington St.

UNC is able to overcome the Cougars swarming defense to advance to the Elite 8.

Lawson and Hansbrough will prove to be too much for the Cougars as Hansbrough goes for his usual 20 and 10 nights and Lawson contributes with eight-plus assists.

Washington St. keeps this a low scoring game but in the end UNC is the No. 1 overall seed for a reason and they will prove it in the final minutes of this close contest.

(2) Tennessee vs. (3) Louisville

Tennessee is able to quiet the critics in this one and win another close contest that will be more of a 3-point shootout than a defensive outing.

Pitino is a big game coach, but I think Bruce Pearl will have his team ready for this one.

Neither team is great from the free throw line but if I had to choose I would say Tennessee is the better free throw shooting team.

Lofton and the boys from Tennessee pull away in the final moments and advance to face UNC in the regional finals.

Regional Finals East Region:

(1) North Carolina vs. (2) Tennessee

Tennessee proves not to count them out in a surprising upset win over the heavily favored Tar Heels.

Tennessee is too good from the outside. Although UNC plays good defense they will give up a lot of open looks from behind the three-point line.

Tennessee clinches it in the end with free throws from Lofton to advance to San Antonio with an upset over UNC.

Midwest Region:

(1) Kansas vs. (12) Villanova

In a game that is close for a half and then broken open in the second half, Kansas wins this one.

I expect them to do what they did against UNLV—play it close in the first half and then come out with a fury in the second half as they pull away from Nova.

Nova has a young team and that will prove to be the downfall in what will be the biggest game of some of these young players lives thus far.

Kansas advances to the Regional Finals.

(3) Wisconsin vs. (10) Davidson

The slipper seems to be coming off of the Cinderellas once the sweet 16 hits.

Curry is a pure shooter and can light it up from anywhere, but it won't be enough as Wisconsin wins this one by not letting anybody else on Davidson take over the game.

Wisconsin can afford Curry to go for 30, but if anybody else on Davidson gets a lot of points there could be trouble for the Badgers.

Wisconsin advances to the Regional Final to face Kansas.

Regional Final Midwest Region:

(1) Kansas vs. (3) Wisconsin

I think another No. 1 seed goes down here also.

I have Wisconsin defeating Kansas to advance to San Antonio and a meeting with Tennessee.

Kansas is very good but I think a lot of people jumped on the bandwagon because of the Big 12 conference tournament. We all saw what happened to Pitt after people jumped on their bandwagon.

Wisconsin's defense can slow a game down and can take a team right out of it. Kansas will fall into this trap and Wisconsin wins a relatively low scoring contest in advancing to the Final Four.

South Region:

(1) Memphis vs. (5) Michigan St.

Many people have this going in Michigan State's favor, but I disagree.

Memphis is the most underrated No. 1 seed in the tournament. I see them winning this game and actually shooting decently from the free throw line.

If Memphis can shut down Neitzel then they are a sure thing; if Neitzel catches fire Memphis could be in for a long day.

I still have Memphis advancing to San Antonio.

(2) Texas vs. (3) Stanford

Stanford struggled in their last game against Marquette but I think that's what they needed to prepare for Texas.

I have Stanford advancing to the Regional Final to meet with Memphis.

The Lopez twins will dominate inside and Stanford's guard play defense will stifle Texas and their star guards.

Stanford wins another close one and advances to face Memphis.

Regional Final Midwest Region:

(1) Memphis vs. (3) Stanford

Memphis once again proves critics wrong in winning this game and advancing to the Final Four.

Memphis is an extremely physical team. Stanford is as well, but Memphis will be able to bully Stanford around at times. They also possess the power to annoy one of the twins, throwing them off their game.

This one comes down to free throws but Memphis is able to hit most of them and advances in a close entertaining game.

West Region:

(1) UCLA vs. (12) Western Kentucky

Another Cinderella goes down as UCLA wins this one in what I feel will be the least exciting game of the bunch.

UCLA will finally come out and play hard and show why they are a Championship Contender.

The Bruins prove to be too much as they pull away before halftime and never look back. UCLA advances to the Regional Final.

(3) Xavier vs. (7) West Virginia

In what many people surprisingly had in their brackets, this matchup may not be such a surprise after all.

I see WVU continuing their run through the tourney with Bob Huggins and win this game to advance to the regional final to face UCLA.

Joe Alexander should be able to exploit the smaller Xavier team. Drew Lavender for Xavier is a hell of a player though and will definitely keep the Musketeers in this one.

West Virginia's three-point shooting will prove to be too much for Xavier to matchup with and WVU will advance in this one.

Regional Final West Region:

(1) UCLA vs. (7) West Virginia

UCLA will definitely have a home court type of advantage in this one with Phoenix being so close to California.

West Virginia has played the Bruins tough in past matchups between the two squads, but Kevin Love will be too much for West Virginia to match.

I even see Josh Shipp finally breaking out and having a big game for the Bruins.

UCLA wins this one and advance to San Antonio for a meeting with other No. 1 seed—Memphis.

Breakdown of Picks:

Sweet 16 Winners:

North Carolina

Tennessee

Kansas

Wisconsin

Memphis

Stanford

UCLA

West Virginia

Regional Finals Winners:

Tennessee

Wisconsin

Memphis

UCLA

NCAA Tournament: A Look Back at Day One's Early Action

Seven games done and one game currently taking place in (3) Stanford vs. (14) Cornell, with Stanford up 38-17 at the half.

Let's take a look at the seven games that took place this morning before the final eight games take place this evening of day one—an already exciting day.

Midwest Region

(1) Kansas vs. (16) Portland St.

The day started with No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region Kansas taking care of No. 16 Portland St. 85-61.

This one was close for the first four min but then the Jayhawks blew the doors wide open in this game.

Last two times Kansas was a No. 1 seed in the tourney and won their games by +20 points they went onto lose in the second round, 1992—UNLV, 1998—Rhode Island.

Brandon Rush led both teams in scoring with 18, four players in total scored in double figures for Kansas. Jeremiah Dominguez led Portland St. in scoring with 11.

(8) UNLV vs. (9) Kent St.

In what was anticipated as a very good matchup it was anything but.

Kent St. tied a tournament record by scoring just 10 points in the first half as a team.

UNLV led 31-10 at the half and never looked back.

Joe Darger led the Runnin' Rebels with 18 points while Mike Scott had 14 for Kent St.

Kent St. made it a game in the second half but UNLV advances to face No. 1 seed Kansas in the second round with a 71-58 win.

South Region

(5) Michigan St. vs. (12) Temple

Michigan St. wins this one 72-61 in game that really was a lot closer then it was if you watched it on tv.

Michigan St. led by nine at the half and extended the lead by two in the second half.

Raymar Morgan led the Spartans in scoring with 15 points. Drew Neitzel only had five points on 2-11 shooting and 1-8 from the three-point line.

Michigan St. could be a scary team especially if they are capable of playing this well when Neitzel shoots poorly from the field like he did today.

The Spartans down the Owls and move onto the second round of the tournament.

(6) Marquette vs. (11) Kentucky

In what was a very good game Marquette survives a late second half surge by Kentucky and escapes with a 74-66 win.

Kentucky definitely could've used Freshman phenom Patrick Patterson in todays game, had he not been injured Kentucky might have actually pulled this one out.

Joe Crawford's stellar game of 35 points for the Wildcats wasn't enough to get them past the Golden Eagles as Marquette advances to the second round.

(4) Pittsburgh vs. (13) Oral Roberts

Pitt looked as if they had not lost a step since winning the Big East Conference Tournament less than a week ago in todays game.

Pitt got out to a huge first half lead ultimately leading by 23 at the half and never looked back in a 82-63 win over Oral Roberts.

Levance Fields of Pitt led all scorers in the game with 23 points also going 4-7 from the 3pt arch. He also had 7 assists.

Pitt looks extremely strong as they head into a good looking matchup with Tom Izzo and his number four seed Michigan St. Spartans in the second round.

West Region

(3) Xavier vs. (14) Georgia

In what was almost the first huge upset of the NCAA Tournament Georgia led the Musketeers by 9 at the half 35-26.

Xavier came out in the second half as if they were on a team on a mission and outscored Georgia 47-26 and winning the game 73-61.

Georgia seemed to finally run out of energy since their cinderella run in the SEC Tournament.

Josh Duncan of Xavier led all scorers with 20 points while Derrick Brown of Xavier collected a double-double going for 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Xavier advances to the second round with a great second half surge.

(6) Purdue vs. (11) Baylor

Purdue much like Pitt and UNLV started the game off building up a huge lead 46-27.

Thiis proved to be too much for the Baylor Bears even though they cut into the lead in the second half. The Boilermakers won this one 90-79.

Purdue had five players score in double figures, Curtis Jerrells of Baylor led all players with 27 points.

Purdue proved that they shouldn't have been on upset alert as they advance to the second round and will meet number three seed Xavier on Saturday.

The afternoon games had no major upsets as every matchup came up chalk, Stanford is currently up by 30 points so I think its safe to say if you have Stanford moving on in your bracket to go ahead and mark them down as a win.

Tonights games should be a little more exciting with games like (6) USC vs. (11) Kansas St. and (7) West Virginia vs. (10) Arizona on the slate.

I'll be back later for my full assessment of the Stanford vs. Cornell game as well as all the evening games with results and players who shined in day one of the NCAA Tournament.

Day 1 Afternoon Winners

Kansas

UNLV

Michigan St.

Pittsburgh

Marquette

Purdue

Xavier

Stanford

Purdue Boilermakers: Trip to the Final Four in Sight?

When one looks at this team they might not think much, with the team leader in scoring only averaging 12.7 ppg and only three players on the whole team averaging 10+ppg they might not consider that to be a team that will go far in the NCAA Tournament.

However, the Purdue Boilermakers are a team that I think can go far and will go deep in this tournament.

While they may not have a huge star they do have a good player in Robbie Hummel as well as a good core of role players, Purdue has nine players that average 15 min or more per game. That is a lot of playing time for a big rotation like that.

With wins over tournament teams like, Louisville, Wisconsin twice and Michigan St.

That is four quality wins there. They also boast a 15-3 conference record this season in the Big 10. As well as having 11 straight wins at one point during the season.

Although they may have lost to Illinois in the first round of the Big 10 tournament I beliece that might actually help them out more then it would have if they were on a big winning streak.

I have always had the mindset that teams on a huge winning streak heading into the tournament always have a higher chance of having a bad game and getting upset, that's why I like to see a team come into the tournament with a loss, unless you are Clemson which looked absolutely let down after their ACC Tournament loss.

Purdue starts off with what I feel is an overrated Baylor, if they win there they move onto face what I project is Xavier. When they get past Xavier its on to face what I think will be Duke.

I believe they match up extremely well with Duke, not only in size but in speed. Six players on the team are 6'6" and above while they also boast an extremely quick group of guards.

Purdue is definitely a team that can and will surprise teams in this tournament ultimately reaching the host city for the West Region; Phoenix, Arizona and a meeting with No. 1 seed UCLA Bruins.

Time will only tell if Robbie Hummel and the Boilermakers can make a run but being a quality team as well as an underrated team that is currently ranked in the top 20 teams in the nation. I think they will surprise some people. I on the other hand, will not be one of those people that will be surprised by this quiet but lethal team.

NHL: Who Really is This Year's MVP?

With the injury to last year's MVP Sidney Crosby, the NHL is now on pace to award a new player the coveted prize.

Which players are up for the nod, and who should be considered despite playing for a bad team? Let's take a look.

MVP Winner

Evgeni Malkin, Pittsburgh Penguins

Malkin is my MVP right now. Since Crosby went down with his ankle injury, Malkin finally showed what he could do if he was the main attraction on a very young Penguins team.

His 41 goals and 56 assists are up from his already impressive rookie season, and his 97 points is second overall in the NHL behind Alexander Oveckin.

Malkin has put this team on his back and has shown he is the real deal. He doesn't need Crosby to capitalize on goal scoring.

Since the award usually goes to the player who is most valuable to his team, and to a player whose team made the playoffs, Malkin definitely fits the bill.

Other MVP Nominees

Alexander Ovechkin, Washington Capitals

With the injury to Crosby this season, most eyes have been on Oveckin. He has already proven himself to be the purest goal scorer in the NHL today.

His 57 goals and 99 points are both tops in the NHL. Should he get to 60 goals, he will be the first player to do so in a season since fellow Russian Pavel Bure.

Problem is, the Capitals most likely will not make the playoffs, which automatically hurts his chances of winning MVP. If Washington can make a late push and sneak into the playoffs, I believe the award will go from Malkin to Ovechkin, but I don't see Washington sneaking into the playoffs at this point.

Jarome Iginla, Calgary Flames

Iginla is perceived among many as the most dominant player in the game today. His pure offensive ability along with his tough guy attitude (he fights a lot for a superstar) are what propel him over Crosby as the most dominant player in the league right now.

He currently ranks third in the NHL in total points with 87. If not for the incredible seasons of Malkin and Ovechkin, Iginla would be a sure-fire MVP.

Roberto Luongo, Vancouver Canucks

No player means more to his team then Luongo does to the Canucks.

Due to Vancouver's lack of offense this season, Luongo has had to do it all. He is seen as the best goalie in the world right now, taking the title from fellow Canadian Martin Brodeur, and I can't argue that at all.

He has 33 wins this year, a 2.25 GAA, .922 save percentage, and six shutouts, all of which rank in the top 10 of NHL Goaltenders.

Luongo may not win MVP of the League, but I think if the Canucks go far in the playoffs and somehow get to the Cup Finals on his back, Luongo will be rewarded with the Con Smythe award.

Other Nominees

Vincent Lecavalier, Tampa Bay Lightning

Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers

Joe Thornton, San Jose Sharks

NCAA Basketball: Predictions From the West Region

Well I have reached the final region of the NCAA Tournament, the West Region, this region seems to be the easiest road for a number one seed to reach the final four.

Here are my predictions however for the first round of games.

(1) UCLA vs. (16) Miss. Valley St.

UCLA wins this one big time in front of a very pro UCLA crowd, Kevin Love's back definitely won't be put to the test in this contest as Love doesn't need to play a lot in this game.

UCLA pulls away early and wins by more than 30 points.

(8) BYU vs. (9) Texas A&M

In this coin flip match I see BYU edging out A&M.

BYU I feel is highly underrated after winning 25+ games this past season.

In a game that I feel might even go into over time BYU survives and moves on to challenge number one seed UCLA.

(5) Drake vs. (12) Western Kentucky

In this battle between Mid Major teams I actually have this one being an upset as Western Kentucky pulls through.

Drake hasn't made a tournament appearance since 1971 but it won't be a long stay in this years tournament as they get upset early.

This game really could go either way because both teams can light it up from the three point line.

When it comes down to Mid Majors playing one another it really is more of a coin flip then an obvious pick but this is my upset special for this region of the tournament.

(4) UCONN vs. (13) San Diego

Surprising San Diego had an incredible ride through their conference tournament to get them into the big dance but UCONN and their big man presence inside is too much for San Diego to handle.

San Diego keeps it close until UCONN pulls away in the last 10 minutes of the second half.

UCONN moves onto the second round to face Western Kentucky

(6) Purdue vs. (11) Baylor

Baylor tries to show why they were deserving of what most likely was one of the final at large births but Purdue wins this one as Purdue's good shooting and solid defense are too much for Baylor to get over the hump.

No upset here as Purdue moves onto the second round.

(3) Xavier vs. (14) Georgia

Xavier wins this game over a what will most likely be very tired Georgia squad, the Cinderella ends early for the Georgia Bulldogs as Drew Lavender and other solid guard play on Xavier is too much.

Xavier escapes a possible upset alert and moves onto the second round.

(7) West Virginia vs. (10) Arizona

West Virginia's three point shooting proves to be too much for Jerryd Bayless and Chase Budinger as U of A gets sent home in the first round.

Could this be the last time we see Bayless and Budinger in Wildcat uniforms?

We shall see.

This could go down as an upset alert because of how solid U of A really is, this is definitely a coinflip type of pick as well.

(

2) Duke vs. (15) Belmont

Duke wins this one and avoids back to back first round exits.

The Belmont Bruins have tournament experience but are no match for the Blue Devils inside-out game. There will not be two teams named the Bruins advancing to the second round from this region.

Duke moves onto the second round and a tough matchup with I feel West Virginia.

1st Round Review:

(1) UCLA

(8) BYU

(12) Western Kentucky

(4) UCONN

(6) Purdue

(3) Xavier

(7) West Virginia

(2) Duke

NCAA Tournament: First Round Predictions in the South Region

In my continuation of predicting every first round game from each region I have now reached the South Region.

We know Memphis will advance, but will there be any upsets from this region in the first round?

(1) Memphis vs (16) UT Arlington

Memphis wins this one easily.

I think Memphis is one of the more underrated teams in this tournament, even for a No. 1 seed. They are extremely physical and can run the floor and shoot the ball well. Their downfall is their free-throw shooting.

I see Memphis going far in the tournament even if they have to face a team like Pitt in the Sweet 16.

(8) Miss. St. vs. (9) Oregon

I think Oregon will win this one.

Many people say Oregon got too high of a seed and shouldn't have gotten in the tourney over Arizona St., but, nonetheless, I see them winning this game and proving to the naysayers that they deserved to be in this tournament.

(5) Michigan St. vs (12) Temple

Michigan St. wins this one as the Spartans prove to be too much for the A10 tourney champs, the Temple Owls.

Tom Izzo has always been a very good tournament coach and Michigan St. is a team that could be a darkhorse in this tournament and end up going pretty deep.

(4) Pitt vs. (13) Oral Roberts

I see Pitt taking this one, although Oral Roberts could be a scary team because they can play some ball.

Pitt is coming in on an extreme high after winning the Big East tourney, but they shouldn't look ahead to a possible matchup with Michigan St., or that could cost them.

Fields and company prove to be too much for ORU as Pitt advances to the second round and a meeting with Michigan St.

(6) Marquette vs. (11) Kentucky

I haven't heard too many analysts discuss this game. I have Kentucky pulling the upset in this one.

Since that 41 point loss to Vandy and that early exit in the SEC tourney to Georgia, Kentucky has played some good basketball, even with a season injury to their Freshman stud Patterson.

I see Gillespie and his great defensive mind shutting down Marquette in a Wildcats upset.

(3) Stanford vs. (14) Cornell

In a battle of two teams with great average SAT scores, I see Stanford pulling away early and winning big time.

The Lopez twins are too much for Cornell's smaller lineup and this will show early. I also believe that a lack of a conference tournament in the Ivy League will hurt Cornell more then it will help.

Stanford wins big here and moves on to the second round comfortably.

(7) Miami Fl. vs. (10) St. Mary's (CA)

In what I see being a coin-flip type of pick from this region I went with St. Mary's (CA) getting the win over Miami Fl.

This is the first time Miami Fl. has been in the tournament for quite some time, but I still think St. Mary's aggressive style of play will surprise this team from the ACC.

St. Mary's wins a tight one, but really this game could go either way. That's why I have it as my coin-flip game of this region.

(2) Texas vs. (15) Austin Peay

Texas wins this one as Augustine and Abrams are too much for Austin Peay.

Austin Peay is a pretty good No. 15 seed though and can be pesky too Texas in this game.

Texas is one of those teams that can go extremely far in this tournament and even challenge for the championship if their guard play can stay consistent throughout.

Texas pulls away in the second half and wins by more then 10.

Winners Review:

(1) Memphis

(9) Oregon

(5) Michigan St.

(4) Pitt

(11) Kentucky

(3) Stanford

(10) St. Mary's (CA)

(2) Texas

NCAA Tournament: First Round East Region Predictions

Well now that Selection Sunday has come and gone the brackets have been set—and while there are some teams that I feel should've been in over others, there is nothing anybody can do now to change that.

In what looks to be the toughest region in the whole tournament who will escape from the first round to advance to the next round of the tournament?

Here are my picks to move onto the second round from the East Region...

East Region

(1) North Carolina vs. (16) Play-In Winner

UNC wins this easily, not much else needs to be said, a No. 1 team has never lost to a No. 16 and most likely never will.

(8) Indiana vs. (9) Arkansas

Indiana wins this one but in a fight, since Coach Sampson left the team the Hoosiers have gone just 3-3 including a buzzer beater loss against Minnesota. I however see them winning this one over the Razorbacks.

(5) Notre Dame vs. (12) George Mason

Notre Dame wins this game as George Mason will not be this year's Cinderella story. Harengody is too much for George Mason and Notre Dame shoots too well from the foul line and the three-point line to lose this one.

(4) Washington State vs. (13) Winthrop

Washington State wins this one in what looks like it will be a close game but I feel that Low and company from the Cougars will win this game by closing out Winthrop in the final five minutes to beat Winthrop by more then 10 points. Washington State's defense is too good to let Winthrop upset them.

(6) Oklahoma vs. (11) Saint Joseph's

Saint Joseph's wins this one in the first upset from the East Region. I believe St. Joseph's will show why they were given an at large birth and surprise Oklahoma with their speed in a close game that will come down to a last shot from Oklahoma that will not go in.

(3) Louisville vs. (14) Boise St.

Louisville wins this one as there will not be a miracle for the Broncos basketball team. Boise State can shoot the ball extremely well from the field the problem is Louisville can shoot that much better. Louisville wins but this game could be close if Louisville doesn't hit their shots or make free throws during the game. I would definitely mark this one as a possible darkhorse upset here.

(7) Butler vs. (10) South Alabama

Butler wins this one big I feel showing that they deserved higher then a No. 7 seed especially when they are the 10th ranked team in the country. I believe South Alabama is overrated and I see Butler running away with this one midway through the second half. Butler could be a team to be reckoned with.

(2) Tennessee vs. (15) American

Tennessee wins this one as Chris Lofton and the gang shoot the daylights out of American, this one stays close for the first five minutes until Tennessee pulls away and wins by more then 20 points I think.

NHL Playoffs: Are the Detroit Red Wings the Real Deal?

Much like I did with the Eastern Conference I am going to be making my prediction if the seeds were set after tonight, from the first round all the way up to who wins the Western Conference.

First Round:

(1) Detroit Red Wings vs. (8) Vancouver Canuck: Canucks Win Series 4-2

I know what you all are thinking, Detroit has 100 points thus far in the season there is no way they can be beaten, especially by an 8 seed. This however, is not your average 8 seed. Roberto Luongo will put the Canucks on his back in this series and put them over the top in 6 games. Naslund, Morrison and the Sedin Twins will step up finally in a playoff series on offense and Vancouvers solid defense will hold Zetterberg and Datsyuk in check. Vancouver in 7 games.

(2) San Jose Sharks vs. (7) Calgary Flames: Flames Win Series 4-3

Calgary might be the scariest team in the entire Western Conference playoffs, with Iginla, Phaneouf and Kiprusoff in net this team is ready to make a playoff run. Calgary is by far the most skilled team all around and will show it in this series. The Sharks counter with a star studded lineup of their own but if Thornton doesn't show up in the playoffs again it will be an early exit for this NHL regular season powerhouse. Flames advance in 7 games.

(3) Minnesota Wild vs. (6) Colorado Avalanche: Wild Win Series 4-2

A battle between bitter Northwest foes will turn out to be the most physical matchup from the Western Conference first round, Minnesota has the type of play that can put a team to sleep but then surprise with a flurry of goals. Rolston and Demitra look prepared to lead the Wild through to the next round but Colorado has a few veterans that they brought back that look to carry this team. With Colorados uncertainty in net with Theodore or Budaj it might be a long series. This team will go as Forsberg does, and I dont think Forsberg will do much of anything. This might be the last time we see Sakic play in the playoffs. We will see. Wild advance in 6 games.

(4) Dallas Stars vs. (5) Anaheim Ducks: Ducks Win Series 4-1

The Stanley Cup Champions started the season slow but got back team leaders Niedermayer and Selanne midway through the season, this will make Turco uneasy knowing what fire power the Ducks have on the other side. I believe the Ducks will make a long playoff run once again with grinding play and a solid offense. Stars are no much even with Turco, Modano and Richards as the Ducks advance in 5 games.

Western Conference Semifinals:

(3) Minnesota Wild vs. (8) Vancouver Canucks: Canucks Win Series 4-2

Another matchup between rivals from the Northwest. This game would seem to favor Minnesota and their style of play but if Vancouver can make it through the first round without any major injuries especially to the defense they should prevail. Luongo has another outstanding series and makes a push for Western Conference Playoff MVP. I also think veteran Trevor Linden will play a big part in this series if given the chance to play, he is a smart player and will play Minnesotas big players extremely tough. Minnesota just cant seem to get the puck past Luongo as often as they want to as Vancouver advances in 6 games.

(5) Anaheim Ducks vs. (7) Calgary Flames: Anaheim Wins Series 4-2

Anaheim shows why they are still considered the most solid all around team in the NHL with a solid showing in this one. Anaheims suffocating defense and quick offense is too much for Iginla and the Flames to handle. If Calgary expects to have a chance they will need big contribution from Langkow and Lombardi, none the less, Anaheim advances in 6 games.

Western Conference Finals:

(5) Anaheim Ducks vs. (8) Vancouver Canucks: Anaheim Wins Series 4-3

In a rematch from last years playoff Anaheim and Vancouver have an all time great playoff series with tough grinding play and great goaltending from JS Giguere and Roberto Luongo. Anaheims team proves too much as Selanne and Getzlaf prove to be too much for Vancouvers already tired defense. Luongo does all he can in game 7 but Anaheim gets by Vancouver and moves on to play the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals by advancing in 7 games.

Playoff MVP for Western Conference:

Roberto Luongo

NHL Eastern Conference Playoffs: Can Sidney Crosby Pace the Penguins?

Now let's just pretend for a second that the current top eight seeds in the Eastern Conference do not change.

I am going to show you my predictions for this up in the air conference. ultimately ending up with the team that will represent the Eastern Conference in the Stanley Cup Final...

First Round

(1) New Jersey Devils vs. (8) Philadelphia Flyers: Devils Win Series 4-1

The Devils as usual are very good this year behind the goaltending of future Hall of Famer and most likely soon to be all time Wins leader Martin Brodeur, the slow paced defensive minded team will be too much for a much smaller Flyers squad as the Devils win the series in 5. Brodeur is usually clutch in the playoffs, and this series will show how consistent he is also.

(2) Ottawa Senators vs. (7) Boston Bruins: Senators Win Series 4-0

Even with turmoil amongst the players and management, most notably goaltender Ray Emery the Senators should breeze through this series over the Bruins. Heatley, Spezza and Alfredsson I think will score more goals combined then Boston will as a team this entire series. Remember though, 7 seeds in the NHL Playoffs have been pretty successful against 2 seeds, I don't believe that will be the case in this series as Ottawa advances in 4 games.

(3) Carolina Hurricanes vs. (6) New York Rangers: Rangers Win Series 4-2

This will definitely be a battle between two outstanding young goalies in Cam Ward for the Canes and Lundqvist for the Rangers. Jaromir Jagr has been relatively nonchalant this season which is no surprise but maybe he has just been saving himself for a strong playoff run this year. With Drury and Gomez also starting to hit their stride and Shannahan still playing as consistent as ever the Rangers seem set for a run at the Cup. With a talented young defense and experienced forwards the Canes will put up a fight but that will be it, what might hurt the Canes the most is playing in the worst division in Hockey. Eric Staal will do his best to carry the team but there is not much else there to help him out offensively, Rangers advance in 6 games.

(4) Pittsburgh Penguins vs. (5) Montreal Canadiens: Penguins Win Series 4-3

In what will be the best series in the 1st round the Penguins led by Sidney Crosby defeat the Montreal Canadiens in an exciting series. The spoiler in this series could come from Montreal goaltender Carey Price, who many believe is the next Patrick Roy. He should push the Habs as far as possible but I still feel he is one season away from guiding Montreal through the playoffs. Crosby and Malkin will prove to be too much for the Habs to handle especially on the power play. If Pens goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury shows up with his A game the Pens could go deep in the playoffs. Pens advance in 7 games.

Eastern Conference Semifinals

(1) New Jersey Devils vs. (6) New York Rangers: Rangers Win Series 4-3

This series will be one for the books as these two teams are bitter rivals and this series will definitely be a rough and tumble one. The Rangers got to this point in the playoffs before being defeated by the Buffalo Sabres, this year they will get past this round of the playoffs and defeat a goaltender that is usually a Ranger killer in Martin Brodeur. Lundqvist will show why he should be considered one of the top 5 best goaltenders in the NHL. In what will be a low scoring series the Rangers out grind the Devils and advance to the Conference Finals in 7 games.

(2) Ottawa Senators vs. (4) Pittsburgh Penguins: Penguins Win Series 4-2

Crosby and the Penguins exact some revenge on the Senators after being eliminated by them in the playoffs last season. In what will be a high scoring series Crosby shows why he is the best player in the game and guides the Penguins to the Eastern Conference Finals vs. Atlantic Division Rival New York Rangers. Penguins advance in 6 games.

Eastern Conference Finals

(4) Pittsburgh Penguins vs. (6) New York Rangers: Rangers Win Series 4-2

The Rangers steal a game on the road from the Penguins then follow that by taking two games at home. Crosby does his best to bring the Pens back but it isn't enough as possible Con Smythe Award Winner Henrik Lundqvist puts the Rangers on his back and shutdown the Pens and Crosby late in the series. Crosby's legacy almost has another chapter to add to the already growing legacy he has but the run stops here as the Rangers advance to the Finals for the first time since winning the Cup in 1994. Rangers advance in 6 games.

Eastern Conference Playoff MVP

Tie between Sidney Crosby and Henrik Lundqvist

Drafting in State for the Arizona Cardinals?

When the Arizona Cardinals take the podium at the 2008 NFL Draft with the 16th overall pick many fans in Arizona know that the defense must be addressed, more importantly the Cornerback situation which is arguably the weakest part of the Cardinals defense.

One name that comes to mind is Antoine Cason, the U of A standout Cornerback who broke many university records during his tenure there.

Many people in Arizona know who this guy is, especially people that go to ASU including myself.

Sure Talib and Jenkins might be available there but Cason, although he is the #2 ranked Cornerback on Rivals.com; he seems to be relatively underrated when I see different Mock Drafts with Jenkins and Talib being taken higher then Cason.

Cason brings good speed with his size which is almost the exact same then that of Talib from Kansas.

People might scratch their heads if the Cardinals went in this direction but it definitely should be thought about I think.

Another sleeper pick in the later rounds could be Ryan Torrain from ASU, I think if the Cards do not address a back up running back within the first 3 rounds that Torrain would be a great pick in the later rounds, should he still be there.

Torrain would supply a great powerback with speed, his power would definitely come in handy in goal line situations which the Cardinals seemed to always be in during this past season.

Torrain definitely isnt a long term feature back but he would definitely fill a role that Brandon Jacobs did on the Giants before Tiki retired, leaving the feature back job to Jacobs this past season.

Another option could be to address the offensive line once again would be Center Mike Pollak from ASU.

Pollak could be one of the more underrated linemen in the draft, he is currently ranked as the #5 Center on Rivals.com, Pollak could definitely be taken in the 3rd round possibly and be a great backup or even challenge for a starting spot this coming season.

Other possibilities but ones that would be doubtful because of what other teams in the league will be looking for is Josh Barrett (ASU); the #2 ranked Strong Safety on Rivals.com, Robert James (ASU); #12 ranked Outside Linebacker on Rivals.com and Spencer Larson (UofA) #16 ranked Inside Linebacker on Rivals.com.

These guys are all quality players that could be instant upgrades to this Cardinals team.

One final sleeper from an Arizona University is Rudy Burgess from ASU, he plays almost everywhere asked, defense, offense and even special teams, that guy could be an instant addition to a Cardinals Wide Reciever core.

Who just happened to lose their #3 reciever in Bryant Johnson and doesnt have a solid #3 or even #4 in the depth chart.

Now I am sure there will be guys higher on the boards that the Cards take but I feel these instate guys would be great fits on a Cardinals team that could easily just look instate for instant talent.

Since the Suns made the biggest move in its franchise history and traded one of the organizations all time best players in Shawn Marion for an aging Shaq before the trade deadline its been an up and down climb for the Phoenix Suns but a recent 3 game winning streak might be a sign that the Suns have finally figured things out and are finally ready for that push to the NBA Finals.

Shaq himself even made it known that it would take time for him to become fully acquainted with his new team and it did take about 4 or 5 games extra from how long was originally projected but it appears to me that the Suns have finally figured out how to play with Shaq.

If anything is proof its the way that the Suns can adjust from a fast pace team to a half court team much like they did against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday Night.

Shaq may have only played 14 minutes due to foul trouble but the Suns were able to adjust during the time when he was on the court and were able to control a slow pace game and the second Shaq left the Suns were able to transition themselves back to the fast paced team everybody has known them to be.

The biggest piece of the puzzle for the Suns that might be the key to a finals run is Boris Diaw.

In games that Diaw decides to show up the Suns are almost unstoppable, but some games it just seems like Diaw is going through the motions.

If the Suns want to make that NBA Finals run that has seemed to be 3 years in the making now, this is the time to do it.

While Shaq seems energized he is in his mid 30's and on the downturn of his career. Now is the time to see if the Diesel will back up his words and bring the Suns organization and all the fans in Arizona a NBA Championship.
