BYU Dynasty Report: Cougars take on the Huskies in NCAA '09

Going into this week, the Cougars had two things that could turn into problems.

1. Austin Collie is injured with a broken finger and...
2. The Huskies have Jake Locker who is a pretty good QB, especially at scrambling.

At the game preview page, looking at the injury report, apparently Jake Locker is out for 11 weeks.

So getting down to business, I started the game. The first quarter was a tight one, with neither team scoring until there were 55 seconds left in the quarter, at which point Max Hall connected with Jake Murphy on a short touchdown pass.

In the second quarter, Max Hall ran a QB sneak at the goal line and made it in to make it a 14-0 lead for the Cougs. As time ran out in the half, Hall hit TE Dennis Pitta for nine yards and a touchdown to make it 21-0 going into the locker rooms.

The momentum was all the way to the Cougars, especially since Washington's kicker missed two easy first half field goals.

The third quarter was a quiet one as there was only one score for both teams. The Cougars received the second half kick and on the first set of downs Harvey Unga ran it 64 yards for a touchdown.

The Huskies were finally able to put some points on the board in the fourth quarter, when they threw a 6 yard pass for a touchdown. On the following kick off, the Huskies returned the onside kick, and there was a ray of hope for an amazing comeback.

Yet they weren't able to convert for a first down on a fourth-and-two play in BYU territory and that ended all hope for the comeback. In the final minute of the game, Max Hall ran in his second touchdown, this time from seven yards to make it a final score of BYU 35 Washington 7.

Although the BYU passing game was on fire today, the defense was the real star, only giving up 212 yards of offense.

Key Stats

Max Hall: 32-44 for 330 yards and two TD; two rushing TD's; MWC POTW
Harvey Unga: 13 carries for 89 yards, one TD
Dennis Pitta: seven catches for 121 yards, one TD
Micheal Reed: six catches for 80 yards
Jake Murphy: six catches for 48 yards, one TD

Top 25
1. Georgia
2. Oklahoma
3. Ohio St.
4. USC
5. Florida
6. LSU
7. W. Virginia
8. Wisconsin
9. Texas
10. Texas Tech
11. Penn St.
12. Arizona St.
13. Kansas
14. Illinois
15. Missouri
16. Auburn
17. Virginia Tech
18. Tennessee
19. Clemson
20. Alabama
21. BYU
22. South Carolina
23. Wake Forest
24. Michigan
25. Texas A&M

BYU Dynasty Report: Max Hall Leads the Cougars to Easy Victory

The first week of my dynasty was a very easy win for the BYU Cougars. BYU was up against FCS Midwest (Northern Iowa) and came out firing on all cylinders.

In the first quarter Max Hall threw a touchdown to WR Micheal Reed for 47 yards. Afterwards Harvey Unga broke a 51-yard touchdown run. The kickoff following the touchdown, brought more success for the Cougars, as safety David Tafuna forced a fumble and Scott Johnson took it to the end zone for a touchdown to bring the lead to 21-0.

In the second quarter, Max Hall connected with WR Jake Murphy for a one yard touchdown. Following a UNI touchdown pass, Max Hall threw a touchdown to RB Harvey Unga.

In the second half Max Hall, threw another touchdown and the second team came in and went on to score 24 more points after the first team players left the game. The final score was 65-14.

Key Stats:

Max Hall: 17-21 for 276 yards and four TD
Harvey Unga: 14 carries for 108 yds, two TD; three catches for 72 yds and one TD
Micheal Reed: five catches for 115 yards, two TD
David Tafuna: six tackles, two Forced Fumbles
Shawn Doman: five tackles, INT, three FF, two FR
Injury Report: Austin Collie is out for two weeks with a broken finger.

Next Week: @Washington (1-0)

BYU Cougars: NCAA Football 09 Dynasty Report

I thought it would be cool to write about my BYU dynasty I'm going to start when I get the game. Since the game has not been released yet I thought I would do a team preview article for my first article about the dynasty.

Players to Watch

#15 Max Hall, 89 overall, Junior, QB
In his first season as starter, Hall showed that he had little rust to shake off after not playing a competitive game of football for three years. He leads ten returning offensive starters for the Cougs. He is an accurate passer with an accuracy rating of 90.

#45 Harvey Unga, 87 overall, Sophomore, RB
Another player who was a breakout star last season. He racked up 17 TDs total, 1,227 rushing yards, and 655 receiving yards. He is a great power back with a break tackle rating of 85.

#9 Austin Collie, 85 overall, Junior, WR
Collie returned from his two year church mission and was on fire scoring 7 TDs. He is a great receiver with 91 speed and a catching rating 0f 90.

BYU Offensive Line
With four out of five starters returning here, this should be one of the best parts of a great Cougar offense. Starters: #65 Dallas Reynolds, #76 Ray Feinga, #53 Tom Sorenson, #74 Travis Bright, #68 David Oswald.

#84 Jan Jorgenson, 90 overall, Junior, DE
He had 14 sacks as a sophomore.

Once I get NCAA Football 09 I'll do reports for each game and list recruiting commits each week.

PSN: bvbaseball5
