Will The Real Brett Favre Please Stand Up

As of right now, I'm still a Brett Favre fan. I've cheered for the man during all the glory years and defended him during the not so good times. 2007 is probably the proudest I've ever been to not only be a Green Bay Packers fan, but also as arguably the biggest Brett Favre fan.

My, how things have changed in the past 15 months.

When Favre retired last March I was heartbroken to say the least. Why would he just up and quit after getting within one game of the Super Bowl? Not to mention the fact that he had the same supporting cast returning for the upcoming season.

Then came the David Letterman appearance in April and it became apparent he was having second thoughts.

Fast forward to July 11, 2008, which just so happens to be my birthday. I'm on my way to the Washington Nationals baseball game when my buddy texts me with "Brett Favre has asked the Packers for his unconditional release". What a birthday present huh?

Then the soap opera began. As it unfolded I thought: "Really Ted Thompson?" Then the trade happened—New York Jets. I thought: "Well, at least it's not Minnesota."

I remained a Packers fan but also remained a loyal Brett Favre fan. I even went as far as to go to a Jets game in New Jersey, just to see him play one last time. By the time the season was over it had become too painful to watch my hero on the field.

During the final game I looked at my buddy and uttered these two words: "It's time."

Then in February, the athlete once loved by the majority of football fans announced he was finally finished.

Until now.

While he hasn't said he's having second thoughts for the second straight year, the writing is on the wall.

Why else would he get released three days after the Jets took a QB in the first round?

I've came to the conclusion that Brett Favre is a man of hidden agendas. He wants to continue playing, just not in New York. So, retire and when the Jets get a new QB they can release him and he can sign anywhere.

That anywhere will most likely be Minnesota.

Now, this is the whole point of this blog. Brett Favre wants to stick it to Ted Thompson and the Green Bay Packers so bad that he's willing to spit in the face of every single Packers fan that remained loyal and stood by him during the down years, the retirement/unretirement, and the trainwreck that was last season, by playing for the Vikings.

To quote Brett Favre after he was traded to the Jets: "If people don't want to be a Brett Favre fan because I'm no longer a Packer then they really weren't a Brett Favre fan to begin with." No Brett, if you unretire again and walk onto Lambeau Field wearing people and gold, you really weren't the person we thought we were a fan of.

So, will the real Brett Favre please stand-up!

A-Rod or A-Roid?

First and foremost, I am not an Alex Rodriguez fan. I haven't been since he left Seattle. Second, I am not a New York Yankees fan.

That said, I should be loving hearing about A-Rod admitting to taking steroids. However, I just can't help but defend him. Here are two reasons why:

1. I'm just so sick of hearing about steroids in baseball. I'm having a hard time believing that no one took 'roids during that era. From the obvious Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Roger Clemens, Rafael Palmerio, etc., to guys who would break baseball fans' hearts such as Ken Griffey Jr. and Cal Ripken Jr. I have a hard time believing there wasn't one person who was clean. Just my opinion.

2. Did steroids really make that big of a difference for A-Rod? He's always put up great numbers. Look at 2007—best season he's ever had. Was he on steroids then? If you answered yes, then please hand in your fan card. Now, he said he used steroids during his three seasons in Texas. If that is indeed true, how much did steroids elevate his performance? He played in Texas, which has always been a hitter's ballpark. So let's do some math.

2001: Home Hrs-33; Away Hrs-19

2002: Home Hrs-34; Away Hrs-23

2003: Home Hrs-26: Away Hrs-21

So exactly how much did steroids affect Rodriguez's performance? Very little, in my own opinion. Like I pointed out earlier, the Rangers stadium is pretty much the AL version of Coors Field. Players numbers are inflated while playing at those types of ballparks.

Finally, I do not support steroids in any sports. I'm just sick of hearing about it. Experts and fans are obviously going to have their own opinions, and that's fine. I shared mine; feel free to agree or disagree.
