Warriors-Mavericks: A Game To Remember Without Don Nelson

The Golden State Warriors only needed six healthy bodies to come out with the most valuable of wins against the Dallas Mavericks who had won five straight games.

Monta Ellis scored a season-high 37 points, dished out eight assists, and had four steals.

Stephen Curry came through in crunch time to score 11 of his 18 points in the final 3:50 of the game, while Anthony Morrow had a spectacular performance with 27 points and 9 rebounds.

Perhaps the most surprising aspect about the victory was how energetic and determined the young players performed without Don Nelson.

Most importantly, Corey Maggette did not set foot on the court last night.

Warriors' fans might have already seen the future head coach for the team in Nelson's top assistant Keith Smart.

And smart he is.

Smart, who filled in as the head coach for the ill Nelson, decided to go with three guards and not insert Maggette in the game at all. Incorporated in that reasoning was Vladimir Radmanovic, who had rebounded exceptionally well (12 rebounds), and provided a sound defensive game against Dirk Nowitizki.

The 45-year-old assistant also realized that Jason Kidd, JJ. Barea, and Jason Terry do not have any intention, or chance, of defending Curry or Ellis' quickness. Therefore, sticking to playing Ellis, Curry, and Morrow together was the correct decision.

In addition, Smart noticed, just like Nelson did in the 2007 playoffs, that Nowitizki does not like being defended by smaller players. Nelson decided to put Stephen Jackson on Nowitizki in the 2007 playoffs, and Smart decided to put Radmanovic against the 7-footer last night. Nowitzki detests going against smaller players due to the fact that they make him defend on the other end—an aspect which Nowitzki is not known for.

On the offensive end, and for the first time since entering the league, Morrow looked like the player Warriors' fans envisioned he would become. Firstly, Morrow did not stand still and wait for Curry or Ellis to deliver him the ball for a guaranteed three. Morrow kept moving on every play, and in some instances decided to attack the basket.

If Morrow continues to play the way he has played, he will be one of the best shooters in the league.

Another aspect worth noting is how Ellis and Curry are starting to mesh and understand each other's games. Curry made three incredible plays towards the end of the game. He hit a three pointer after Ellis saw he was open, made a perfect pass to Anthony Randolph for a dunk, and hit a one-handed runner over Nowitzki.

Along with Curry, Ellis has been the main leader on this team. Down eight in the fourth quarter, Ellis jumped into the team huddle during a timeout and urged the team to continue fighting. Ellis' defensive game has also been a standout. He is becoming a more complete player on the court.

Beginning of the End: Don Nelson and Monta Ellis Bicker in New York

Don Nelson and Monta Ellis briefly exchanged some heated words in New York city this afternoon, Marcus Thompson of Insidebayarea.com reports.

The situation, however, should mark the beginning of the end of either Nelson's horrific tenure as head coach of the Golden State Warriors, or Ellis' relatively short career with the dysfunctional bay area squad.

According to Thompson, who was on the trip to New York covering the Warriors, Ellis blasted a question into Nelson's face: "Coach, why do I get blamed for everything?"

Nelson responded by saying, "What have I ever blamed you for?"

"For everything. For everything. For people not knowing the plays. I didn't do this. I didn't that," Ellis explained.

Nelson, according to Thompson, brushed Ellis' comments, by waving his hands at the 24-year-old guard.

Ellis took his final shot and said, "See. That's why I won't do it. I just won't do it."

Reaction

Warriors' fans booed Stephen Jackson opening night (and continue to do so occasionally) due to his summer trade request. However, Jackson's attitude and harsh criticism towards the most abominable franchise in the league should be taken to a more deeper significance in regard to the whole team's morale.

Most importantly, Ellis' morale.

Ellis and Jackson have a close relationship and they might have drawn this up together or Jackson might have motivated Ellis to open up and "speak his mind." Ellis, sooner rather than later, was going to speak out against Nelson regardless.

Ultimately, somebody had to speak out. Jackson initiated it, Ellis is continuing it.

Nelson, on the other hand, had a plan drawn out since he received news of Ellis injuring his ankle in a moped accident last year. He didn't like Ellis, anyways.

According to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, Nelson was openly welcoming a trade scenario that would send Ellis elsewhere before he landed his $60 million deal.

He disliked Ellis' physical features. He knew that Ellis, standing at 6'3'' and 175 lbs, would have trouble guarding opposing SG's and that the best possible position for the Mississippi product would lie at the point guard position.

Not having a physically strong, smart, and athletic point guard would virtually make Nelson's "small ball" look even more inferior—a phenomenon that Nelson has been combating since the departure of Baron Davis to the Los Angeles Clippers.

So when Nelson woke up on Jun. 25, got ready to monitor the 2009 NBA draft for a surprise pick to fall in his lap, it did. Right there, with the seventh pick, Stephen Curry was available. When the Warriors (Nelson) decided to pick Curry, the 69-year-old head coach had accomplished half of his goal: irritate Ellis.

Ellis, before the draft, expressed various concerns towards the Warriors deciding to draft any point guards.

Nelson and puppet GM Larry Riley went to visit Ellis in his hometown of Jackson, Mississippi, to assure the 24-year-old that they would strongly attempt to acquire a dominant big man (later to become Amar'e Stoudemire) and add some "beef" to the front line.

Neither occurred.

Consequently, both Jackson and Ellis became frustrated.

In addition, by drafting Curry, Nelson placed Ellis on the hot seat. Nelson fully acknowledged that Curry and Ellis would not coexist in the same back court—not in the wildest of dreams. It was either Curry or Ellis.

Ellis, by that time, had already figured out Nelson's plans. He may have needed Jackson's help to grasp the whole situation, but he eventually understood what this franchise management's all about: hypocrisy.

Typically, this appalling management loves young and innocent players like Curry, Anthony Morrow, and Anthony Randolph, but quickly destroy players (including team officials) who expose their idiocy.

This brief spat in New York will be brushed off by the Warriors' Public Relations campaign. It will, however, spark further drama.

For now, it's either Nelson or Ellis in the Bay Area. As long as Chris Cohan remains owner of the Warriors, Nelson will have the upper hand on critical issues such as this one until he earns his money and smokes his way to Maui.

Ellis and Jackson both do not want anything to do with this franchise. How will this affect Randolph, Curry, and Morrow in the future? Is Andris Biedrins definitely considering a trade now? What is Ronny Turiaf experiencing now after leaving Los Angeles?

One thing is sure: the Warriors are awaiting critical change.

Hannover, Germany Keeper Enke Dead

German goalkeeper Robert Enke, who played for Hannover, was pronounced dead at age 32 on Nov. 10.

Unconfirmed reports emerged that indicate that the substitute goalkeeper for the German national squad threw himself beneath an oncoming train, Soccerway.com reports.

Enke played for Barcelona, but only made a lone appearance before returning to Germany in 2004 to play for Hannover. He has made over 150 appearances for the German club.

It is thought, as well, that the death of his 3-year-old daughter may have been the chief cause of his death.

A press conference will be conducted in Germany to reveal more details about the passing away of the 32-year old.

Stephen Jackson's Agent To ESPN: "No One Trusts Don Nelson"

Moments after a blowout loss the Sacramento Kings, Stephen Jackson's agent, Mark Stevens, slammed Golden State Warriors' Head Coach Don Nelson, according to Chris Broussard of ESPN.

"No one trusts Don Nelson," Stevens said to Broussard. "When Nelson was in Milwaukee, Wayne Embry trusted him and brought him in, and he betrayed Embry. In Dallas, Mark Cuban took damn good care of him and his son [Donnie Nelson Jr.], and he betrayed Cuban. In Golden State, Chris Mullin hired him and trusted him and Nelson back stabbed him by reaching out to president Robert Rowell and blaming Mullin for everything that was going wrong with the Warriors."

Stevens' remarks come after the Warriors claimed they would accommodate the trade request Jackson made back in August. Jackson said he wanted to play for a championship.

During the annual Warriors' Media Day, Jackson ripped the organization, saying the team had taken steps back since the spectacular 2007 playoff run by losing Jason Richardson, Baron Davis and most recently Al Harrington.

Currently, Stevens wants Jackson out of the Bay Area as soon as possible.

""I just want him out of there now," Stevens said to Broussard. "It doesn't matter where. At this stage, something has to be done. It can't get any worse."

For Warriors, Embarressment Sounds Too Familiar

Chris Cohan. Robert Rowell. Don Nelson. Three mishaps, three egos, three stubborn characters. That, in a nutshell, epitomizes the state of the Golden State Warriors.

The horrendous defeat to the lowly Los Angeles Clippers on Nov. 6 should not stand as a surprise to any of the Golden State Warriors' faithful fans. It's the norm for the disoriented Bay Area based team, who have known no better terms than "embarrassing" and "failure" for 15 of the past 16 seasons.

Even when success attempted to knock on their doors in both the 2006-2007 and the 2007-2008 campaigns, it was virtually shown the door the season after when Cohan, Rowell, and Nelson destroyed the franchise by bickering over who has the divine right to acquire control of this franchise and the money.

Instead of losing each other, they teamed up against former GM Chris Mullin, stripped him of his title, and kept pushing him into the corner until they ran his contract out and never looked back.

"It's an embarrassment what they are doing to Chris (Mullin)," one GM said to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News .

Yes. That word again: "Embarrassment."

It should be familiar for anyone who has been following the team for the past five years and it should become a permanent label for this franchise.

Embarrassment has not only surfaced over the last couple of dismal years. On the contrary, it has been an accumulation over the past decade running from the Chris Webber days, through Latrell Sprewell, through Gilbert Arenas, Baron Davis, Al Harrington, and finally Stephen Jackson and Monta Ellis. It's the only viable and valid word to illustrate the horrendous nature of this dismal organization.

Nelson, teaming up with the destructive duo of Cohan and Rowell, should stand as one of the biggest embarressments and failures in team history.

So, when the Warriors get handed two consecutive blowouts less than 48-hours apart from supposedly "weak" teams in the likes of the Los Angeles Clippers (at home) and the Sacramento Kings, do not be surprised.

When Ellis claims that pairing up with Stephen Curry in the backcourt is not the way to win basketball games, do not feel surprised. It's the truth. Truth and this franchise cannot and will not co-exist under this appalling management.

When Don Nelson, with a straight face, says, "Chris Cohan is the perfect owner," do not feel amazed.

It's how the Warriors roll.

Will Charlie Villanueva Be Object of Desire for Warriors This Summer?

The Milwaukee Bucks have decided to make qualifying offers to Ramon Sessions and Ersan Ilyasova, both of whom are restricted free agents. They have, however, opted not to make any offers to Charlie Villanueva.

This move stands as a peculiar one for the Bucks, especially after trading away Richard Jefferson to the San Antonio Spurs days before the 2009 NBA draft to clear some cap space.

As a free agent, the Golden State Warriors, who were seconds away from landing Amare Stoudemire on June 25, should have their eyes on Villanueva this July.

With Jamal Crawford coming off the salary books, the Warriors are expected to make around $61,244,674 next year—assuming the Dubs do not tweak the roster.

The Warriors have, by no means, finished trading this offseason—as the chase for a solid power forward or center remains heavily active. If the Warriors decide to target Villanueva this July, they would have to offer him a mid-level exception (expected to be around $5.8 million) for the first year of his contract.

The Oakland-based team should attempt to clear cap space by trading forward Brandan Wright and guard Marco Belinelli. The Warriors should also be kicking themselves in the foot after signing Corey Maggette to five years and $50 million last season.

Villanueva averaged a career-best 16.2 points and 6.7 rebounds in 27 minutes per game for the Bucks in the 2008-2009 campaign. The 6'11'' forward would bring some much-needed help to the Warriors in the rebounding and defending departments, if he lands in the Bay Area.

In addition, Villanueva has a good mid-range jumper, and a reasonable long-range shot (shooting 36 percent on three-pointers last season). This could spark the interest of head coach Don Nelson, as well.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Detroit Pistons, and Oklahoma City Thunder have also shown interest in the 24-year-old forward.

It's most likely that Villanueva will join the Cavaliers, as he has a good relationship with both LeBron James and Mo Williams. The Cavs are also desperate for an NBA championship before the 2010 free agent market takes the league by storm.

Amar'e Stoudemire and Stephen Curry: Not the Answer to Warriors' Needs

When David Stern announced that the Golden State Warriors selected Stephen Curry with the highly risky seventh pick of the 2009 NBA Draft, Bay Area fans were baffled by the decision—especially after rumors that Don Nelson informed Jordan Hill that they would never pass on him if he's available at the seventh slot.

But you never get anything guaranteed with the new camouflage GM of the Warriors.

Curry, a physical clone of Monta Ellis, was not selected to accommodate the Warriors' needs, but the Phoenix Suns'. Arguably the best shooting player in the 2009 NBA Draft was solely chosen by the dysfunctional franchise in order to entice Suns GM Steve Kerr into giving away Amar'e Stoudemire.

If anything, Stoudemire's Twitter post should indicate the nature of this rumored trade. Stoudemire, having fun on his Twitter page wrote, "Breaking News! Amar'e Stoudemire to the Lakers!!"

On his blog, San Jose Mercury columnist Tim Kawakami wrote, "Don Nelson vs. Steve Kerr, with poor Riley (Larry) and Curry (Stephen) stuck in the middle in public. Not their fault, not the fault of the Warriors PR (Public Relations) staff. We’ll see which front office is Phil Hellmuth and which one is dead money."

And that's exactly it. It's a mark of disoriented franchise—make everything as complicated as possible for the franchise, the fans, and ultimately for yourself in order to charm interest around the league.

Just yesterday, Comcast Sports Central aired comments of Nelson definitively claiming that Curry was not drafted in order to get traded. "He can unpack his bags and relax,” Nelson said. "He can buy a house. We drafted him because we think he’s a terrific player that fits right into our program. He ain’t going any place."

And Nelson claims he's not involved in any front office decisions? If anything, Nelson sounds like he's the GM of the franchise, based on his powerful comments about Curry.

The speculation around Curry in the past few days all stem around the uncertainty of this franchise. How will Curry fit in with Ellis in the backcourt, if he's to stay in the long term? How would Stoudemire's attitude and health affect the future of the organization if he was to land in the Bay Area anywhere this July?

How about the one word that Nellie despises to hear: defending?

Similar to Ellis, Curry is both slim and has trouble defending opposing players. Yes, he's a much improved passer, facilitator, and point guard than Ellis presents himself right now. However, how will Curry ever make the Warriors a playoff contender in the future? Can Ellis and Curry guard a backcourt composed of Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili?

Curry is just another shooter with good passing abilities that looks more like a shooting guard than a point guard. Ultimately, how is he an upgrade?

The same case scenario applies to Stoudemire. He's the perfect big man Nelson has been longing for since his glorious days in Dallas with the Mavericks and Dirk Nowitzki. The Suns' forward, though, should be a concern regarding his health and attitude.

Stoudemire has been known to display dismay towards his coach and the proposed playing style—one of the reasons behind Terry Porter's early departure from the desert last season. Stoudemire has also been known to call-out teammates in the past.

Nelson always wanted his shooting big man, which Stoudemire brings to the organization. However, he does not add the necessary rebounding and defending this team desperately demands. And his defending, in particular, will not improve after he lands in Oakland and plays under the infamous style of "Nellie Ball".

The explosive forward has also had microfracture surgery on his knees along with suffering a detached retina last season in a game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Feb. 19.

In addition, Stoudemire landing in the Bay Area in exchange for Andris Biedrins, Brandan Wright, Marco Belinelli, and Stephen Curry should be a steal for any NBA team—especially the Suns, who are in total rebuilding mode.

Kawakami makes an interesting theory by writing that if Kerr strongly believed Stoudemire is the piece to build around a franchise, why would he be giving him up and involving him in trade talks? According to Kawakami, his health and attitude are significant factors.

By any means, Nelson and Riley merely thinking about making a trade of this caliber illustrates that they desire to make a change to the franchise. According to various reports, the Warriors would have only accepted this trade if Stoudemire extended his contract—which stands as a smart move due to Stoudemire's player option in the 2010 summer sweepstakes. But how will Stoudemire help this team in the long run without necessary rebounding and defending?

Still, there remains a major question that needs to be addressed: Will Ellis put on a Warriors jersey next year?

It might have already been answered on June 25 when Nelson drafted Curry.

Larry Riley's First Move as Golden State Warriors GM Was Exceptional

Larry Riley's first move as the newly promoted general manager of the Golden State Warriors was characterized by a trade that sent Jamal Crawford to the Atlanta Hawks for guards Acie Law and Speedy Claxton.

The deal was first reported by Marc Stein of ESPN.

Realistically, the trade only involves two players, Crawford and Law, as the Warriors are expected to waive Claxton, who has never seemed able to shake off the numerous injuries that have haunted him.

By any means, this has to go down as an exceptional maneuver by Riley and his compatriots in the Warriors front office. After Don Nelson proclaimed his distrust in Crawford by informing him to either opt out of his contract or expect to be traded last season, the Warriors have received something in return for the streaky combo guard.

Instead of leaving Crawford to opt out without receiving a player in return, the Warriors have made a move that will hopefully fill the notable backcourt hole they have suffered since Baron Davis' departure to Los Angeles.

Though Law may be used as trade bait for the NBA draft, he will certainly help the Warriors if a trade does not transpire in the next 24 hours.

What Law brings to the Bay Area, if he wears a Warriors jersey next season, is size, quickness, and some much-needed court vision.

In the 2007 Draft, in which the Warriors sent Jason Richardson to the Charlotte Bobcats for Brandan Wright, some reports came out that Nelson was extremely interested in Law. He even wanted to go so far as trading Monta Ellis to accomplish his goal.

If anything, Law might remind Warriors fans of Marcus Williams. Williams, who was expected to play the point guard role last year for the Warriors, barely set foot on the court due to Nelson's claim that he was "unfit."

However, Law seems like a Nelson player—not to mention he has a reliable mid-range jumper.

This deal, for the Warriors, might be an indication of what might occur on draft day or in the summer.

In an interview with Warriors' radio play-by-play announcer Tim Roy, Riley said, "At one time, I thought there would be more than usual, the kind of trades being that one guy picks for another guy. I think there will be a few of those (trades), but I don't see a lot of that."

The Warriors may decide to use Law, Claxton, and their first-round pick to acquire a veteran point guard (against Ellis' wishes) or a big man who has the ability to aid in the rebounding department.

Milwaukee Bucks Trade Richard Jefferson To San Antonio Spurs

Richard Jefferson, who landed with the Milwaukee Bucks after ending his successful stint with the New Jersey Nets the previous season, is now reportedly traded to the San Antonio Spurs in a four-player deal.

The deal would involve Richard Jefferson for Fabricio Oberto, Kurt Thomas, and defensive specialist Bruce Bowen.

The move comes in a critical juncture for the Spurs. They were knocked out by the Dallas Mavericks in the first-round of the playoffs while Manu Ginobli was nursing a foot injury.

The move benefits both teams in the long-term, but in particular the Bucks who will experience cap reflief in the 2011-2012 season.

Regarding the Spurs, Jefferson is yet another addition to the already championship core that consists of future Hall-of-Famer Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, and Ginobli.

If healthy, mark the Spurs to contend and bother the Los Angeles Lakers next year for an NBA title.

Italy Stunned by Egypt: An Upset for the Ages

It takes a great deal of heart, courage, and guts to enter unfamiliar surroundings and capture the hearts of thousands, while leaving a long-lasting impression in a period of less than a week.

Ask the official African representatives of the FIFA Confederations Cup, Egypt, who landed in South Africa after being handed a tough defeat in their World Cup qualifying match in Algeria a week earlier, only to comeback and shock the world with their best performance of the century against the reigning world champions, Italy.

In football, it is typically considered that physical toughness outweighs mental toughness. Usually, when both those products combine, the result is a fruitful one.

In an historic game against Italy, Egypt dictated the tempo from the beginning to end (with a lot of luck in between). Their defense was astounding, after a poor performance against the Brazilians.

The first half saw many lacklustre Italian chances, with no real substance. The 22-year-old Giuseppe Rossi attempted a few of his thunderous shots, but the magnificent 36-year-old Essam El-Hadary was more than his match.

Towards the end of the first 45 minutes, against the run of play, the Egyptians were awarded a corner kick. One of the unheralded greats of modern football, 30-year-old Mohammed Abo Treka, calmly addressed the ball and deliver a perfectly flighted ball to midfielder Mohammed Hommos, who netted Egypt's first and only goal of the game.

In the second half, El-Hadary had luck on his sided against the rugged Italians. Whilst the Italians were frustrated by the stalwart Eygptian defense led by Wael Gomaa, Hani Said, and Ahmed Said. El-Hadary looking more like former German great Oliver Kahn than a 6ft Dameittian. He made three crucial saves to preserve Egypt's valuable lead.

The introduction of both Riccardo Montolivo and Luca Toni in the second half meant that the Azzurri had to be attentive towards Egypt's lethal counterattacks. When the fourth official counted five minutes of stoppage time, Italian fans were given a brief relief, while Egyptian fans saw it as a curse.

As the referee blew his whistle to end the game, it meant that 75 million Egyptians were dancing their way in the streets of Cairo, Ismalia, and Alexendria to celebrate the game of the century for the Pharaohs.

The wildly optimistic Egyptian fan who held the sign "Sorry Italy, Try Again Next Time," should have been embarrassed as soon as he found his seat in the Johannesburg Stadium. 90 minutes later, he must be shutting down all his critics.

Man of the Match: Essam El-Hadary / Mohammed Hommos

Best Moment of the Match: When Abo Treka made a tackle on Gennaro Gattuso, only for the camera-man to find Gattusso exposed in his underwear. A "Cover your Eyes Children" moment, but an entertaining one.

Here We Go Again: Clippers May Offer Baron Davis to Warriors This Summer

It's that time of year again for the Golden State Warriors when rumors run deep, journalists get wild, and the fans' hopes are in the sky. According to ESPN's Chard Ford, Baron Davis and Monta Ellis could be the starting backcourt for Warriors next year only if the ailing Los Angeles Clippers draft Ricky Rubio.

When Chris Cohan and Robert Rowell are the representatives for the Warriors, however, an erroneous "something" will certainly occur.

However, Davis will not be returning to the place he raised from the ashes. Period. Why would he?

Chris Mullin was just officially shown the door with Larry Riley's great promotion to the GM position, while Rowell and Don Nelson are in cruise control with the franchise. Davis is smart enough to pass on the Warriors, if he had an opportunity to return to Oakland.

Mullin was the only credible individual in the organization since Davis checked in to the Bay Area in Febraury 2005. Monta Ellis, in an interview with ESPN last Febraury, alluded to his complete trust towards Mullin. Behind the lines, fans could see that Mullin was the sole reason behind Ellis' stay in Oakland after Cohan and Rowell's constant reiteration of the "void your contract" stance.

The same scenario involves Davis.

Rowell vetoed Mullin's extension to Davis last summer, after assuming Davis would not opt-out out of his contract. In total panic mode, Rowell offered Gilbert Arenas a $100 Million deal, but the latter brushed off the franchise that jump-started his NBA career.

Two weeks later, Elton Brand was offered another $100 million dollar deal, but bolted for Philadelphia.

According to Ford, if the Clippers draft the 6'4'' Spanish point guard this June, they may offer Davis for Corey Maggette. Still, that does not make any sense. Maggette left the Clippers due to head coach Mike Dunleavy's horrendous coaching.

Davis left the Warriors due to Rowell and possibly Nelson. What is in it for him? Why would he move from a dumb franchise, to a dysfunctional one?

If anything, Davis will definitely be in talks with some teams this summer for various trade scenarios. But, Warriors' fans will not see the number five jersey flying down the court next year unless Cohan and Rowell start deteriorating.

Warriors-Jazz: Golden State's Magnificent Seven Stuns Utah

Before April 11, only seven teams have left with a victory at Energy Solutions Center Arena in Salt Lake City.

On April 11, the Golden State Warriors, who had seven players available, became the eighth team this season to defeat the rugged Utah Jazz in their own arena with a 118-108 result.

C.J. Watson, who led all scorers with a career-high 38 points, said, “We just wanted to come in a play hard, play tough and match their intensity. They play pretty hard at home, but we came out, played hard, and fought for the win."

The ailing Warriors stunned the sell-out crowd with a 64-51 lead at halftime.

With Watson controlling the tempo, Anthony Morrow showing his vast improvement on defense, Kelenna Azubuike continuing his formidable play in the last few games, and Andris Biedrins, Ronny Turiaf, Rob Kurz, and Anthony Randolph protecting the rim, the Warriors were set on a late-season upset of a team that desperately needed the win to move up the congested Western Conference standings.

Morrow had 13 points, including a huge three-point play with two minutes left in regulation to give the Warriors a much needed cushion after the a 13-2 run by the Jazz.

Turiaf had nine points, while Biedrins had eight. Randolph finished the night with 13 points.

Kurz had a new career-high with 21 points, as he rebounded beautifully and played tremendous defense on Andre Kirilenko.

The Warriors front court throughout the game performed their task extremely well as Turiaf, Biedrins, Randolph, and Kurz combined for 27 rebounds, 49 points, and terrific defense.

Turiaf showed the entire package today from running the floor (three transition dunks in the first half), passing, altering and blocking shots, while taking care of Carlos Boozer down low.

Biedrins, with his high basketball IQ, seemed rusty, but had some very key rebounds at the end of the game to seal the victory. At one point in the game, the Warriors lead by 18.

As a result of the extremely thin availability of players for Don Nelson and his coaching staff to work with, the Warriors could not have played a bigger lineup towards the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth.

Morrow and Randolph shared handling responsibilities in the back court, Kurz played at the Shooting Forward position, while Biedrins and Turiaf finally were on the court together.

The Turiaf-Biedrins tandem proves to be a proven successful front court solution for the Warriors. If Nelson can land another center in the off-season, there will be no excuse to consider Turiaf and Biedrins pairing up next year in the front court.

The Golden State Warriors' Offseason Improvements

Hope or despair, "We Believe" or "We Suck," the Golden State Warriors remain a team bound for nothingness. Here's a personal list that I compiled on the aspects individual Warriors players should target in this upcoming offseason.

Centers:

Andris Biedrins ( Assuming he does not get traded)

- Refine offensive game by applying new moves under the basket.

- Become a mainstay defensive presence.

- Learn to have an alternative plan for opposing players who shut him down during games.

Ronny Turiaf

- Focus extensively on the rebounding area of his game.

- Become a reliable offensive producer when replacing Biedrins.

- Learn to work more under the basket and work on perfecting his jump shot.

Power Forwards:

Anthony Randolph (Assuming he does not get traded)

- Learn to start the break himself and execute it efficiently.

- Work on becoming under control over the basket. In other words, does not have to jump for every rebound and pick-up un-necessary fouls. This does not undermine his terrific energy.

- MUST make the jumpshot part of his game.

- Learn to conserve his energy on the court.

- Become a defensive presence.

Brandan Wright (Assuming he does not get traded)

- Has to hit the weight room and add some much needed bulk. This will certainly aid in boxing out against bigger opposing players.

- Has to become a consistent rebounder.

- Learn to protect the basket better and move his feet against his man on the defensive end of the court.

Jermareo Davidson and Rob Kurz - Too little time on the floor to observe.

Small Forwards:

Stephen Jackson

- Limit or improve ball-handling. This, in turn, will bring down his turnover numbers

- Limit talking to officials on useless plays.

- Learn to take smart shots instead of "jacking-up" threes with 20 seconds left on the clock.

- Learn to become a leader!

- Continue his formidable defensive game.

Corey Maggette (Assuming he does not get traded)

- Play defense.

- Pass whenever possible (averaging 1.8 assists)

- Keep going to the line!

- Stop "attempting" to take charges.

-Refine jump shot.

Kelenna Azubuike

- Learn to stop on a dime and shoot a mid-range jumper.

- Become more of a defensive reliability.

- Learn to finish at the rim better.

- Continue his amazing rebounding performance.

Shooting guards/Point guards

Anthony Morrow

- Extensive work on his ball-handling ability.

- Extensive work on his drives to the basket and his first step.

- Learn to shoot better, his stroke is absolutely horrible (Currently, best three-point shooter in the league).

- Extensive work on layups.

- Extensive work on defending and contesting.

Marco Belinelli (Assuming he does not get traded)

- Work on becoming a better distributor.

- Continue to work on his defensive game, which has extensively improved this season.

- Learn to become a consistent shooter.

- Learn to force his way into the rotation.

Monta Ellis (Assuming he does not get traded)

- Extensive work on defending

- Take care of his body and surgically repaired ankle.

- Attempt to stay away from anything with two wheels on it.

- Working on his consistency in regards to getting his teammates more involved.

- Learning how to control a team from a point guard's perspective.

Jamal Crawford (Assuming he does not opt-out)

- Learn not to bail-out opposing defenses with a jump shot with 20 seconds left on the shot clock.

- Drive to the basket more as he is a 88 percent free throw shooter.

- For his size, defending is a major issue.

- Learn to become a better distributor.

CJ Watson

- As a back-up point guard, consistency is key.

- Avoid reaching in and picking up un-necessary fouls plus putting the load on the helper to contain his own man.

- Learn to become a better shooter off different spots from the floor (not only a three point shooter from the left corner of the court).

- Learn to use the screen-and-roll more often and find open shooters.

Golden State Warriors Facing Decision Time with Roster

Golden State Warriors head coach Don Nelson declared that the last month of the regular season would be designated to the development and evaluation of younger players. However, injuries have hampered the 68-year-old coach's plans.

Despite the incomplete roster, the coaching staff has observed and evaluated the play of every player on the roster. Quite frankly, it may have been the only way.

With a complete roster, the Warriors have four front-court players that are part of the rotation: Brandan Wright, Anthony Randolph, Ronny Turiaf, Andris Biedrins.

With a complete roster, the Warriors have about seven guards/small forwards that are a consistent part of the rotation: Monta Ellis, Stephen Jackson, Corey Maggette, Anthony Morrow, Marco Belinelli, CJ Watson, Kelenna Azubuike.

From that part on, Warriors management (If there exists one) has a decision to make on the "guard" section of the roster.

Two identical players that come to mind are Belinelli and Morrow.

Belinelli has grown leaps and bounds since his rookie season--averaging 8.9 PPG, 2.1 APG, and 1.7 RBG. The Italian Stallion brings to the Warriors a shooting guard that can efficiently score in a variety of ways (pulling up for a jumper, cutting and slashing, or shooting threes). Accompanying that is his ability to dish out assists.

But one facet of his game that has been notable lies in his defense.

Nelson said, "It's amazing. That guy, when we got him, couldn't guard me. And he's really worked hard on his defense. You've got to give him a lot of credit."

Morrow, on the other hand, brings the typical shooting guard/small forward player that Nelson admires. The 6'5'' rookie can shoots lights out at any given day of the week.

Earlier this season, Morrow scored a career high 37 points against the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center to hold the record for most points scored by an undrafted player.

Morrow, who studies Ray Allen's shot techniques consistently, does not possess any defensive ability. His lateral movement is slower than expected. He often gets caught reaching in on numerous plays due to his inability to keep up with his man.

Another facet of Morrow's game that he struggles with is his ball-handling—which is somewhat of a concern for a player of his size and shooting ability. You would think that in the future he will have to use that skill to get by defenders because the opposing team has to respect his outside shooting threat.

So, who will it be? Belinelli or Morrow out of Oakland?

In essence, the Warriors can keep both these players on their roster. However, that might hamper their developmental phases even more due to the immense similarities both players possess.

For myself, Belinelli is a keeper. Although not a pure shooter, he can create a shot for himself, is a consistent scorer and has a deadly jump shot. He can play defense (even on Kobe Bryant), has the necessary court vision to make plays, can dribble and penetrate and most importantly brings professional experience to Nelson's system.

The Warriors' ultimate goal this upcoming off-season will have to focus on acquiring a point guard that fits Nellie's basketball system, has the necessary size to defend opposing shooting guards or point guards and can make plays down the stretch.

Possible candidates include:

Jarret Jack (Restricted 2009 Free Agent)

Andre Miller (Unrestricted 2009 Free Agent)

Mike James (Unrestricted 2009 Free Agent)

Or the Warriors can go for the "traditional" sign and trade. In that case, Belinelli, Wright, Morrow, Azubuike (who becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2010), CJ Watson, and Jamal Crawford (assuming he does not opt-out) will have to be involved in a trade.

Possible candidates in the sign and trade category include:

Ramon Sessions (Will be hard to pull him out of Milwaukee)

Javaris Crittenton (a 6'5'' point guard that has an explosive first step and decent defensive game. A very nice point guard to fit into Nelon's system).

Kirk Hinrich (Maggette or Crawford might be a part of this trade due to contract issues)

Jose Calderon (Not the typical Nellie point guard, but has great vision at his position. Again Maggette or Crawford might be used to execute such a trade).

14 Years of Golden State Warriors Chaos; Can Fans Endure Another 10?

In the past 14 years (excluding the last two), the Golden State Warriors franchise has been marked with chaos, abominable management, potential hall-of-famers shown the door, and two filthy figures that could care less if Oracle Arena burned down in front of their money-filled eyes.

Chris Webber, who recently had his No. 4 jersey retired with the Sacramento Kings, had an outstanding first year for the Warriors when they decided to trade Anfernee Hardaway on draft day.

Webber averaged 17.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game and won the NBA Rookie of the Year Award. The lanky 6’10’’ power forward/center, was also a crucial factor in getting the always-struggling Bay Area team into the playoffs.

However, Webber encountered some issues with the Don Nelson, head coach of the Warriors.

Nelson primarily desired to utilize Webber as a big-time post player for the Warriors, using Webber’s tremendous ball-handling and passing abilities to threaten opposing defenses. To balance out his great innovation of “small-ball,” Nelson moved Webber to center.

The skilled forward disliked the idea, obviously, and showed it. That sentiment by Webber forced the trade that sent Chris elsewhere, and left the Warriors without a player who could have pushed them deep into the playoffs over the coming years; and possibly gotten them a championship.

From then on, Nelson’s image and influence over the Warriors' players began to deteriorate. Those same notions about 'Nellie' have resurfaced over the last two years. When he landed in the Bay Area again and led the team into an electrifying playoff experience in 2007 they seemd to be tamped down. However, such derision doesn't die down easily.

The following year, the Warriors won 48 games, but missed the playoffs again. Fans weren't happy.

Prior to the start of last season, the second-winningest coach in NBA history made it extremely clear that his goal was for the team to make the playoffs—nothing more, nothing less.

The loyal fans and the media hyped up the situation and painted Nelson as the Warriors’ savior. However, he didn't come close to being their savior—not remotely close.

Nelson went with virtually an eight-player rotation, irritated the best power forward who could fit in his run & gun system (aside from Dirk Nowtizki) in Al Harrington, kept Brandan Wright on the sidelines, and wore out the Warriors Big 3 (Stephen Jackson, Baron Davis, and Monta Ellis), overplaying them to an average of 41.8 minutes per game.

In the previous off-season, the filthy Warriors’ executives, owner Chris Cohan and president Robert Rowell, vetoed Mullin’s contract extension to Baron Davis. Reports came out from various Bay Area news agencies that also linked Nelson with Davis’ departure to the Clippers—a move that destroyed both the Clippers and the Warriors. Why would management and the coach commit such a felony?

It is, after all, an NBA felony if you let go of a team’s superstar, unless he’s a franchise destroyer. It’s a reoccurring piece of Warriors’ history, isn’t it? The same way Nelson and management destroyed relations with Webber; they have done similarly with Davis. Cohan decided to support Nelson rather than Webber in the early ‘90s.

He decided to support him again by giving him a contract extension that takes its toll until the 2011-2012 season. All of this in favor of showing the vice president of basketball operations, Chris Mullin, the door in this upcoming off-season.

Rowell, along with Cohan’s approval, fired Pete D'Alessandro, Mullin’s right-hand man and respected capologist around the league. His replacement was Larry Riley, Nelson’s right-hand man.

By making that move, Rowell and Cohan have both virtually put Nelson into the team’s General Manager role. It is not hard to see. The evidence?

Nelson attempted to trade Anthony Randolph at the beginning of the season, and reportedly informed his former agent BJ Armstrong that Randolph’s services are no longer needed with this franchise.

When do coaches speak directly to player agents? Don’t they have to inform a team official first?

Next, he got into his cute little spat with Jackson, called him the worst player on the floor for the team, and forced Jackson to refute reports of the incident.

Right after the Warriors’ 2007 playoff run, he urged Mullin to trade Monta Ellis, but Mullin just let it go. Before the 2009 trade deadline, ESPN reported that Nelson wanted to trade Andris Biedrins and Randolph for Chris Bosh. Two days after the report came out; Nelson went on his infamous radio show and refuted all reports.

Recently, he told starting point guard Jamal Crawford that he has to opt-out or else trading him would be inevitable in the off season. Surprisingly, that’s after he said that he wants Crawford as a permanent Warrior right after he landed in the Bay Area.

Most importantly, when Nelson is asked about any kind of trades and off season dealings the team is willing to make, Mullin appears in the conversation.

However, Nelson doesn’t seem to comprehend that this “go talk to Mullin, I’m the coach” mofo is not effective with the media or the fans anymore. It’s becoming old, Sir Nelson. The damage has already been done.

In addition, Ellis has voiced his unhappiness with rumors the team is ready to terminate his contract at the end of the season. He doesn't need this looming over his head, and it might prevent him from ever returning as the 'Old' Ellis we know and love.

The 6’3’’ lightning-quick guard has not attended a team photo shoot, skipped some practices, and didn’t join the team on this current road trip.

Quite frankly, the loyal fans of this disoriented franchise do not desrve to be treated the way they are.

When the fans finally found their team in the playoffs and in the national spotlight in 2007, they were relieved that the 13-year playoff drought was over. However, the 2008-2009 campaign has all the makings of history repeating itself; and the Golden State Warriors and their fans losing out once again.

Amar'e Stoudemire Possibly Out for Rest of Season

Phoenix Suns Forward Amar'e Stoudemire will likely miss the rest of the regular season, as he will have surgery to repair a partially detached retina in his right eye Friday.

According to the AP, the surgery was performed by Dr. Pravin Dugel at Spectra Eye Institute in Sun City, Arizona.

Stoudemire is estimated to be out for eight weeks, depending on how fast the healing process goes.

AP said, "Dr. Dugel stressed that recovery varies on a case-by-case basis."

The 26-year-old forward, recently the subject of many trade rumors, was inadvertently poked in the eye during the Suns' 142-119 blowout victory over the ailing Los Angeles Clippers.

The eye injury marks Stoudemire's second of the season, as he was also inadvertently poked in the eye by former Sun Boris Diaw last October.

"We are very glad to hear that Amare should have a 100 percent recovery relative to his vision and his long-term prognosis is excellent," Suns general manager Steve Kerr said.

Stoudemire's loss could spell trouble for the Suns' 2009 playoff push. The Suns currently hold the ninth spot in the Western Conference, two games behind the Utah Jazz—who won last night against the Boston Celtics in Salt Lake City.

This could mean more minutes for Shaquille O'Neal, but it is doubtful the 36-year-old legendary center will be able to endure any more playing time.

According to AP, Stoudemire's estimated return date is around April.

The Suns' last game of the regular season is April 15.

Warriors' Youngsters Draw Praise from Lakers

After the Los Angeles Lakers' 129-121 triumph over the Golden State Warriors Thursday, Lamar Odom and Kobe Bryant were all praises for two Golden State Warriors players: Anthony Randolph and Monta Ellis.

Odom's comments specifically were a huge surprise.

"It's like looking in the mirror a little," Odom said about Randolph. "He's also 6-foot-11, he's left-handed and he can put the ball on the floor. He's two times as athletic as I was at that age.

"He should set his goals high. He has All-Star potential, Hall-of-Fame potential, with that size, his ability to put the ball on the floor, he can shoot the three, he can pass. If he stays focused, the sky is the limit for him."

For a rookie that has been having on an up-and-down season with Warriors head coach Don Nelson, this is a huge praise coming from an established player in this league.

Yet, Nelson and Larry Riley were in talks of trading Randolph and Warriors' rebounding star Andris Biedrins for disgruntled Amare' Stoudemaire.

The Black Mamba had some words of his own directed to Ellis.

"He's phenomenal," Bryant said of Ellis. "He's one of my favorites in the league to watch.

"He's still explosive. I don't care what people say up here. They're not guarding him. He is quick. He can elevate, finish at the rim and he can shoot. I'm really excited to see him develop as his career goes on."

The Annual Choas With CAF Stirkes Again

On Feb. 11 in Lagos, Nigeria, Emmanuel Adebayor, the skilled Togolese forward, was chosen by Confederation of African Football's (CAF) as the 2008 African Player of the Year. In his contention, was Mohammed Abu Trika, the talented Egyptian attacking midfielder, and Nigeria's own Michael Essien.

Togo's Adebayor recorded a total of 74 points to beat second placed Abu Trika to the prize. With this impressive victory, Adebayor became the first Togolese to be recognized as the best African player.

But there's more behind this triumph than anything else.

Adebayor, with 30 goals for Arsenal has been a sensational player for the fans at Emirates Stadium. No doubt, Adebayor playing out of the African continent enabled him to seize control over the reward as well.

However, CAF has had many inconsistencies that have loomed over this celebration for many years.

Both CAF and FIFA, three years ago, clarified that when the final stages of these kind of awards arrive, "What the nominees achieve for their clubs and country would be used to determine the winner." Even if the "Chosen One" has won the majority of the vote without recording a single championship under his belt, the fans and the media have been made to comprehend that, to have the winning player's name carved on the award, it would be imperative for that player to have won a trophy.

Well, if this seems to be the case, how did Adebayor beat Abu Trika to this prestigious African award?

Adebayor, in 2008, had not won one championship with Arsenal. In addition, his national team even failed to make the 2008 African Nations Cup in Ghana, the top footballing competition in Africa.

Abu Trika had been instrumental for Al-Ahly's African Champions League trophy as well as the Egyptian National team's African Nations Cup triumph in 2008.

Some might contend that the footballing difference between the Egyptian League and the Premier League proves to be huge. Arsenal facing Chelsea is way different than Al-Ahly facing Zamalek (Egyptian Derby game). Rightfully so. However, that's not the main argument.

In fact, Abu Trika is not the first player that has been faced with these CAF inconsistencies.

Nigeria’s Austin Okocha is a victim of such rule. First, Okocha was denied the award from an argument that stemmed from the fact that Cameroon's Samuel Eto'o won the league title and the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona while Okocha didn't achieve similar accomplishments with Bolton and Nigeria.

Moreover, Cristiano Ronaldo won FIFA's Best Player in the World award over Lionel Messi just because Ronaldo had won both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles.

Where's the consistency, CAF?

Al Harrington: Don Nelson Has Been Known To Ruin Guys' Careers

Al Harrington's return to the Bay Area was characterized by the fans' boos, a fifth consecutive loss for the New York Knicks, and a few harsh words for the Golden State Warriors' head coach Don Nelson.

As always, often controversial San Jose Mercury columnist, Tim Kawakami, sneaked into the Knicks' locker room right before the Feb. 10 game to get Harrington's reactions on his return to Oracle Arena.

Harrington, who is averaging 21.2 points and 6.3 rebounds over 37 games with the Knicks, slammed the 68-year-old Bay Area revelation.

Nelson said that Harrington's intent to depart was about money—that he wanted a "better deal." In addition, Nelson claimed that Harrington had made his relationship with him transform into a personal issue.

Harrington remarked with a "Wow" when Kawakami told him of what Nelson had said.

"I guess that’s what he said. Me and him never had any of those conversations. I think he just made that up. You know him. I didn’t say that. Tell him he told me a lot, too," Harrington said. "I just didn’t see eye-to-eye with him. I didn’t like him. And he didn’t like me."

When Kawakami asked Harrington if he related to what young forwards Brandan Wright and Anthony Randolph are currently experiencing, Harrington threw the hammer down.

"I talk to B-Wright every once in a while. I just tell him to keep his head, try to stay positive and try to weather this Nellie Storm. Because he’s been known to, you know, ruin guys’ careers. So hopefully that won’t happen to those guys," Harrington said.

Reaction

When a former player comes out and starts bashing his former coach, someone has to know that there is certainly something wrong with this franchise and coach. I have not recently witnessed a player throw out such harsh words on his ex-coach.

However, this reveals more truths that have been tucked away, stored, and that the organization wants to expire quickly before somebody exposes them.

The way Nellie used Harrington as a three-point power forward that did nothing but that, has to certainly hurt a player.

Now, Harrington might have been in there for the money, but who the hell isn't these days?

What hurt me most as a Warriors' fan was when Harrington said the following:

"It’s a damn shame. This was a team that, if they had kept it together, would be one of the top teams in the West. But unfortunately they weren’t able to do that."

In response to the causes of the Warriors' downfall, Harrington further said, " Probably Baron [Davis] leaving, losing Matt [Barnes] and guys like that. We all jelled perfect. It was like the perfect storm, think about all the types of guys we had. It’s history. It’s over with."

Personally, these last five words hurt the most.

Anthony Randolph Fires His Agent, B.J. Armstrong

Janny Hu of the San Francisco Chronicle just reported that rookie Anthony Randolph has fired his agent, BJ Armstrong. This is extremely rare for a rookie to fire an agent mid-season.

Armstrong also represents the No.1 overall pick Derrick Rose.

"My people and I decided it was the best for me," Randolph said to Hu. "B.J.'s a great agent, but we decided this was best."

Rightfully so. It may be best for the 19-year-old rookie, but could spell trouble for the ailing Warriors.

Two months ago, head coach Don Nelson told Randolph to inform his agent to start looking for some lucrative deals around the NBA market. The reason? Nelson thought the "Randolph situation" was not "going to work out."

According to Hu, Nelson has denied these reports. Yes, just like Stephen Jackson decided to refute Tim Kawakami's report that he and Nelson were involved in an "argument." Days later, Jackson confirmed the incident.

What could this mean for the Warriors?

Randolph fired Armstrong because he failed to talk Nelson into any playing time for the raw 6'10'' forward. Quite frankly, he failed to convince Nelson that Randolph should get playing time over Rob Kurz.

God forbid Nelson would play Randolph over Kurz.

But this Randolph issue has trouble written all over it.

For one, Randolph may well be seeking a trade that would provide him with plenty of playing time, experience, and development, aspects Randolph has struggled to achieve since landing in the Bay Area under Nelson.

He may also be attempting to provide Nelson and the front office with some strong messages: "If I do not get my playing time, you'll regret that you drafted me."

The only two people that might keep him with the Warriors are Assistant Keith Smart and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin.

During games, Randolph never goes to Nelson to talk things over. He always heads to Smart for advice on how to execute a certain play or defend an opposing player.

When the Warriors faced off against the Dallas Mavericks on Jan. 28 (a nationally televised humiliation), ESPN ran an interview segment with guard Monta Ellis about Mullin. Ellis praised Mullin for keeping his career alive with the Warriors.

This may also be true with Randolph. However, Robert Rowell and Chris Cohan's plans to isolate Mullin for the remainder of the season, might make Randolph's (or Ellis' for that matter) Warriors career short-timed.

Warriors-Hornets: A Rare Road Triumph for Struggling Golden State

Jamal Crawford and Monta Ellis' made their much anticipated appearance together as the starting backcourt for the Golden State Warriors against the Dallas Mavericks on Jan. 28. The result, however, ended in a disjointed loss for the Warriors.

"Not this one," Crawford said. "Anyone but this one."

On Jan. 30, however, the Warriors upset a potential Western Conference contender in the New Orleans with a 91-87 final result.

The secret? Chemistry and teamwork.

The most pleasant surprise, however, was Corey Maggette. Maggette, who finished with 19 points, six rebounds, and two assists, scored 12 points in the fourth quarter to fuel a much needed victory for a struggling Warriors squad.

"Whoever guards me I just think it's a mismatch because I'm just a person that tries to keep a person on their heels and attack them every which way. Everyone knows I'm trying to go to the basket," Maggette said,

For the Warriors (5-20 record on the road), this win is the first win this season against a team above .500 on the road.

In the early part of the game, the Warriors seemed to emphatically embrace their run-and-gun style of play. The Warriors had more fast break points than assists at one point of the game.

Stephen Jackson who had 15 points, six key rebounds, and seven assists, forced Peja Stojakavic, who fouled out in the final seconds, to finish with only 11 points on 3-of-11 shooting, including 1-of-6 from 3-point range. Stojakovic scored 26 points three times in the last five games.

"I love playing defense and I'm able to get the best of guys on some nights. I know it's not going to happen every night," Jackson said. "I'm glad it was tonight".

Ellis, who was forced to guard Stojakovic on plenty of possessions also seemed active defensively. Ellis finished with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting with an alarming two assists.

Crawford, who hit the biggest shot of the game for the Warriors with 15.4 seconds left on the clock to put the Warriors up 87-82, scored 17 points to accompany his one assist!

Ronny Turiaf, a key player in tonight's victory, had four points, 11 rebounds, three blocks, and a big put-back basket at the end of the third quarter to tie the game.

Andris Biedrins, who was limited with foul trouble, finished with 12 points, nine rebounds, and major props from Hall-of-famer Hubie Brown.

When Warriors' head coach Don Nelson decided to insert both Biedrins and Turiaf together on the front-line, the Warriors struggled to score (so did the Hornets), but defended extremely well and limited some of Chris Paul's lethal penetration.

Anthony Randolph, Rob Kurz, and Jarmareo Davidson (who was signed for the remainder of the season), did not play tonight, despite being on the active roster.

The Warriors conclude their three-game road trip on Jan. 31 at Houston against the Houston Rockets.

BY THE NUMBERS:

41%

Warriors' shooting percentage from the field facing the Hornets.

1

Number of wins on the road against a team above .500

91

Number of shots Turiaf blocked, including this current game, for the season

214

Number of assists for Jackson, including this current game, for the season.

John Obi Mikel Charged With DUI

Nigerian Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has been charged of driving under the influence after he was seen driving his Range Rover rather dangerously, the Telegraph reported.

The police stopped the Nigerian by the break of dawn on Saturday near his club's ground in London's Fulham Road, hours before Chelsea's 3-1 win over Ipswich in the FA Cup.
"We are aware (Mikel) was arrested and charged. We want to establish the facts before we comment," a Chelsea spokesman told The Sun.

The 21-year-old is summoned to appear in the court on April 3rd.

Mikel could either face one-year driving ban or be sentenced to time in jail!

Chelsea fans, rejoice!

Mido expressed his joy at linking up with his compatriot Amr Zaki at Wigan Athletic, while coach Steve Bruce lauded the towering striker's capabilities.

The 25-year-old moved on Thursday to Wigan from Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the current season, in a swap deal that saw Marlon King heading in the opposite direction.

Mido believes the Latics are pretty much on track in the Premier League, saying he's eager to help them maintain consistency.

"Wigan are a club moving in the right direction, who play great football and their league position is no fluke," he told the club's official website on Friday.

"My focus now is entirely on making sure we reach safety and then progress as far as we can this season.

"Now I just want to show the Wigan public what I am all about and play football."

Mido pointed out that Wigan had high-profile players in abundance, which he cited as another reason to be excited about his new Premiership adventure.

"I'm really looking forward to teaming up with some excellent players," the Egypt hitman elaborated.

He's also enthusiastic about playing alongside his fellow countryman Zaki, who has made a spectacular impact since he arrived at JJB early this season.

"I'm also really pleased to be teaming up with Zaki," said Mido.

"He is a top player and a good friend and it always helps when there are familiar faces when you join a new club."

The former Zamalek prodigy seemed to be flattered that former Manchester United Player Bruce showed interest in his services.

"When a man like Steve Bruce, who has achieved so much in the game, says he wants you, you have to take up opportunities like that," Mido added.

On the other hand, Bruce dished out praise for the former Roma marksman, adding that the latter would notably beef up Wigan's frontline.

"Mido brings vast experience to the table," commented the Wigan coach.

"He has a good Premier League pedigree having scored goals at Tottenham and Middlesbrough, and he has also played for some huge European clubs, where he gained Champions League and UEFA Cup experience.

"He is still a relatively young man with potentially his best years ahead of him and hopefully he can produce a bit of magic for us during the rest of the season."

David Beckham: "Kaka Turned Down Manchester City's Offer For Real Madrid"

AC Milan's newly acquired midfielder on loan, David Beckham, disclosed that Kaka rejected Manchester City's historical offer because of his aching desire to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

"Kaka wants to go to Real Madrid and not to City," Beckham reportedly said to Spanish Publican AS.

The 32-year-old English midfielder believes some of the Spanish giants' officials contacted Kaka over a potential transfer this upcoming summer.

"I think he will become a Real player in June," Beckham said. "I think someone has called him and that Kaka has made his decision."

AS reported last week that the Brazil hitman asked Beckham, who played for Real between 2003 and 2007, for information about the Spanish champions.

Beforehand, former Real president Ramon Calderon, who handed in his resignation days ago, pledged to land the 26-year-old during his tenure.

Los Blancos are keen to remain interested in Kaka even after the departure of Calderon.

"This is the best moment to recruit Kaka, he is the player who would benefit the team the most," an anonymous Real Madrid source, told the newspaper.

After all, Real were on the brink to capture a 23-year-old Portuguese superstar last summer. Pursuing Kaka should be no different.

Monta Ellis: A Golden State Warrior for Life?

In a day that featured his first five-on-five practice in over eight months, Golden State Warriors' injured guard Monta Ellis gave various reporters from Bay Area news agencies something to smile about and dissect.

"Listen, whatever it is about me leaving, wanting to go, I don't want to play for Nellie—that never came from my mouth," Ellis said.

In recent weeks, famous San Jose Mercury columnist Tim Kawakami continually expressed his opinion about Ellis never playing for the Warriors again. Ellis' comments on Tuesday Jan. 13 indicated otherwise.

"I don't know where they got that from, but I'm here for the next six years. I'm a Warrior. I'm going to always be a Warrior. Whoever put that out there did it because they wanted a story."

Or did they?

Ellis, who injured his ankle in moped collision last August causing the $3-million fine and 30-game suspension, filed a grievance against the Warriors handle over the situation last summer.

Jeff Fried, Ellis' agent, is expected to be in the Bay Area on Monday Jan. 19 to evaluate the situation. Fried and Ellis will obviously make their decision after their meeting with Warriors' officials.

Despite the 6' 3'' guard's strong declarations and commitment to this dysfunctional organization, words remain deceptive.

Warriors' fans must have lit up after they saw initial reports of Ellis' comments. And rightfully so. However, the situation has to be taken a look at from an in-depth perspective.

Former Warriors' Forward Al Harrington, during the offseason, seemed to throw out positive words about his situation with the Warriors; specifically about head coach Don Nelson.

Despite the numerous reports that expressed the 6' 9'' forward's intention to be dealt, Harrington always made sure to focus on the positive side of the situation. He even denied Kawakmi's report that clearly stated his desire to bolt out of Oakland in the early part of the season.

Nov. 21, 2008, Harrington found his way to Mike D'Antoni's structured run-and-gun system in New York City.

Now, Ellis sits around microphones answering questions and throwing out those magical words to the media—just like Harrington, Chris Mullin, Robert Rowell, Baron Davis, and Nelson did.

He might be honest and he might not be. But what all Warriors' fans must fully acknowledge is the fact that Ellis remains angry over the front office's decision to fine and suspend him.

The Magic Of Don Nelson: Warriors Sign Jermareo Davidson, Waive DeMarcus Nelson

The Golden State Warriors announced the signing of forward Jermareo Davidson to a 10-day contract, while placing guard DeMarcus Nelson on the waivers list.

Davidson, who played in the NBA D-League, averaged 16.2 points and 10.8 rebounds in 15 games for the Idaho Stampede. He led the D-League in double-doubles (10) and ranked third in rebounding.

Davidson, who was selected by the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the 2007 NBA Draft, was traded to the Charlotte Bobcats, along with Bay Area fan favorite Jason Richardson, for Brandan Wright.

Nelson, the highly praised rookie point guard, averaged 4.1 points and 1.1 assists in 13.1 minutes per game. He was also the starting point guard for the Warriors in the opening game of the season against the New Orleans Hornets.

The signing of Davidson could mean fewer and fewer minutes for Anthony Randolph. Davidson, like Randolph, possesses athleticism and length at 6'10''. However, Davidson has more experience to accompany his landing in Oakland. Randolph has none.

A month ago, the Warriors decided to waive Richard Hendrix, the 6'9'' rookie out of Alabama (drafted 42nd overall). However, the Warriors still owe Hendrix money next season since they gave him a guaranteed contract. He has a partially guaranteed deal for the 2009-2010 season.

With the signing of Davidson to a 10-day contract, is Don Nelson trying to point out that Davidson is a better player than Hendrix?

Is he trying to point out that Rob Kurz is better than Hendrix for the Warriors?!

Marcus Williams is up next.

Anthony Randolph's Attitude Problems Keeping Him Off Court for Warriors

Over the past month, Bay Area fans have been calling for more playing time for Anthony Randolph, the raw 6'10'' rookie of the Golden State Warriors. Over the last few games (specifically against Oklahoma City and the Minnesota Timberwolves), the 19-year-old has rarely been seen on the bench.

It turns out, however, that coach Don Nelson has been "upset" over Randolph's attitude during the team's practices.

"We're going to put him on ice for a while, until the assistant coaches tell me he's ready to play in an NBA game and my captains tell me he's ready. He's just going to have to grow up," Nelson said to Janny Hu of the San Francisco Chronicle.

According to Matt Steinmetz of the San Francisco Examiner, Randolph has had some incidents at practice that prompted Nelson to keep Randolph on the sidelines.

Rob Kurz, who appeared with a cut chin during the past couple of games, was apparently elbowed by Randolph during one of the practices.

During a possession, as Steinmetz reports, Randolph was frustrated. While driving to the basket, Randolph elbowed Kurz in the chin. Kurz was sent to the locker room immediately.

Warriors' captain Stephen Jackson thought it was "uncalled-for."

"That was some B.S. I told him that was something that he should be doing to the other team, not his teammates," Jackson said.

Notes

Golden State dropped its second in a row against the "struggling" Minnesota Timberwolves with a 115-108 decision. The Warriors' record currently stands at a dismal 10-25.

Wright was unavailable with a sprained left wrist suffered in the first quarter against the Thunder on Dec. 31.

Corey Maggette missed his 15th straight game with an injured hamstring against the Timberwolves.

"He's feeling some discomfort," Nelson said.

Maggette hopes to make his appearance at Salt Lake City on Jan. 5 against the Utah Jazz.

Warriors-Thunder: Golden State's Loss Just About Wraps It Up

To wrap up 2008, the Golden State Warriors treated the Bay Area with a 107-100 loss on New Years Eve to the Oklahoma City Thunder, the worst team in the NBA. The Warriors (10-24) were plagued by 20 turnovers, Stephen Jakson's great ball handling ability, Marco Belinelli's blind passes, and Don Nelson's insistence on the ineffective "small ball" style of play.

Kelenna Azubuike led the Warriors with 24 points, all of those points came in the second half. Azubuike also tied his career high for three point makes (four) on the last day of the year.

Jackson had four turnovers, nine assists, and 17 points. However, Jackson did more harm than good for this team in the second half with his unnecessary dribbling and ball handling.

Jackson and Marco Belinelli lead the team with four turnovers each.

One aspect Jackson does not seem to fully absorb about his game is that he's actually a better player off the ball. True, the Warriors captain feels the urge that he has to do everything necessary for this club to win a game.

However, hoisting up abrupt threes on a three-on-three fast-break and dribbling through traffic only to have the ball taken away by the opposing defense, does not accomplish his target.

His most successful games this year came when he played off the ball more consistently. This is why Jackson was so successful last year with Baron Davis' presence.

Belinelli, who has been the hottest player in a Warriors jersey the past 10 games, had one of his worst games. His defense on Kevin Durant proved to be the only exception, but his crazy passes and turnovers were not a pleasant sight. Belinelli only had two points and five assists.

Then, Nelson came along.

The Warriors' head coach put Rob Kurz and Anthony Randolph on the inactive list tonight. What he did not envision occurring was that his starting power forward, Brandan Wright, would be in foul trouble. This is Nellie we're talking about here.

"I thought Oklahoma City deserved the win and we just didn’t seem to have the pop we have had in the past couple of weeks. I wish I knew why, I don’t know the reason," Nelson said.

Midway the second quarter, Wright picked up his second foul. In effect, Nelson was forced to take him out of the game. Consequently, "small ball" started to kick in.

The Warriors, who held a 12-point advantage at the five-minute mark of the opening quarter, faced a "Thunderous" run to cut the lead to six, 28-22.

When Wright was forced to sit, the Thunder made their real run. Oklahoma outscored the Warriors 29-27 in the second quarter.

While Wright was squeezed on the bench due to picking up his third foul in the third quarter, the Warriors were out-rebounded, out-hustled, and out-scored (27-15).

The Warriors were out rebounded 45-35.

The Warriors were +10 when Wright was in the game and -10 when Ronny Turiaf entered the game.

Andris Biedrins, who notched his 19th double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds, had yet another off game offensively. Biedrins' offensive moves are becoming more and more predictable, as he failed to make a successful move towards the basket. His points were mostly accumulated by his put-backs.

"When we don’t make shots or share the ball, we lose. We had a lot of mistakes on defense. There is no excuse, we just lost. You have to take a loss like a man. We have to take the loss tonight and move on," Jackson said.

Guards Earl Watson and center Chris Wilcox had their way with the Warriors tonight. Forward Jeff Green had an outstanding game with 26 points and eight rebounds. Kevin Durant had 25 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists.

2009 should be a very interesting year for the Warriors.

The Best Golden State Warriors Moments of 2008

Good or bad, 2008 for the Golden State Warriors is a year to remember. Coming off a 48-win season, the Warriors have entered the 2008-2009 campaign full of youth and inexperience. Despite their horrendous record at 9-22, there have been positives.

Nuck Chorris, Yama Hazheer, Steven Resnick, and Khalid Shakran share their three favorite 2008 moments for the Warriors.

Nuck Chorris

3. Anthony Morrow's 37-point game against the Los Angeles Clippers

2. Marco Belinelli's over the backboard fade away jump shot against the Milwakuee Bucks.

1. Anthony Randolph's dunk on Yao Ming

Yama Hazheer

3. Kobe Bryant vs Stephen Jackson in the Staples Center, where they exchanged threes in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

2. Morrow's career high 37 points against the Clippers.

1. Baron Davis' game winning shot against the Boston Celtics

Steven Resnick

3. Jamal Crawford's 50-point game against the Charlotte Bobcats

2. Morrows' 37-point game against the Clippers

1. Davis' game winner against Boston Celtics on 2-20-08 (2007-2008 season)

Khalid Shakran

3. Azubuike's career high 33-point showdown against the Clippers (plus a flamboyant finish over Chris Kaman).

2. Andris Biedrins' career and league high 26 rebounds against the New York Nicks.

1. Davis' game winning shot against the Celtics.
