Harry Kalas: A Legend Is Lost

A few days ago Harry Kalas was stolen from us quicker than a Jimmy Rollins swiped bag.

The longtime Phillies broadcaster and voice of NFL Films exemplified all that is good with sports, providing countless memories for fans everywhere.

Harry Kalas is being six-years-old and discovering the sport of baseball.

Harry Kalas is “outta here!”, “you are the man!”, “watch this baby!” and “Michael Jack Schmidt!”

Harry Kalas is full of high hopes.

Harry Kalas is pretending to go to sleep, and sneaking in a few extra glorious innings.

Harry Kalas is getting caught for the above offense, but having a completely valid excuse.

Harry Kalas is watching the first three innings on TV, going outside maybe to shoot some hoops and listen for the middle three, then closing out the night back on television with a win or loss.

Harry Kalas is a warm summer night on your porch, in your backyard, driving in the car, or relaxing at the shore.

Harry Kalas is attempting to imitate an impossible to imitate voice.

Harry Kalas is your childhood, your adulthood. Your entire fanhood.

Harry Kalas is a World Champion in more ways than one.

Harry Kalas is Philadelphia.

The man was appropriately recognized by the Baseball Hall of Fame. Inducted in 2002, Harry the K was simply the best.

He was passionate, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, genuine, elegant, unique and absolutely legendary.

The voice itself brought joy to everyone. Man what I would do for some vocal chords like that! It had the power to capture an entire city, and it did.

Through good times and bad, winning streaks and slumps, blazing heat and rain delays, we had Harry Kalas to relate to.

His personality is what pushed him over the top. Tell me of a person who disliked Harry Kalas and I would have no choice but to call you a liar. He had no enemies. What he had were millions of friends.

His voice has awoken me for the past few months after an unforgettable call in the World Series. “The 0-2 pitch, swing and a miss, struck him out, the Philadelphia Phillies are 2008 World Champions of Baseball.” I can’t get enough of it. It doubles as my ringtone and will continue to for quite a while.

During every game, usually in the early innings, Harry would always say something like, “We’d like to give our well wishes to the Smith family and to Bob for a quick recovery.” Now it’s our turn. On behalf of all the Phillies fans I’d like to say, “We want to send our well wishes to your family, Harry.”

An empty feeling will linger around the team, the city, and all of baseball. Harry Kalas as a person is irreplaceable. There will never be anyone whose voice resonated like Harry’s. No one will capture a city so completely like Harry.

The fabric of the Philadelphia Phillies is “outta here” but Harry Kalas will never be forgotten.

Philadelphia Comparisons: How the Sixers Relate to the Phillies

There I was, standing in the concourse at the Sixers game last night, staring at the Commissioner's Trophy, otherwise known as the World Freaking Champions Trophy. I realized that it was now possessed by my team. Oh, what a sweet feeling.

Last night was Phillies Night at the Sixers. In attendance were Shane Victorino, Ryan Madson, and Brad Lidge, as they were honored by another Philadelphia organization. Lidge threw the honorary tip. There was an ugly display of a three-point contest at halftime.

Shane Victorino took home the coveted imaginary three-point trophy, connecting on seven threes in 60 seconds. He sort of had it going on. That wasn't really the ugly part though. I almost had to turn away when Brad Lidge and Ryan Madson faced off against each other and made a total of two combined threes in a combined 120 seconds. Stick to pitching, fellas.

The whole Phillies theme at a basketball got my creative genes ticking. Who do the guys on the NBA team in town, most resemble across the street for the baseball team? How would the Sixers fare in a different sport? Well, here's what I came up with.

Andre Miller

Phillies Comparison: Jamie Moyer

This one was really easy for me. The two are similar in many ways. For one, both don't really rely on extreme athleticism to be productive. Jamie Moyer hasn't broken 85 on the radar gun, maybe his entire life. Andre Miller isn't the quickest of guards or highest of jumpers. Both recognize this, and turn to a common trait: craftiness. Both Moyer and Miller excel at the art of being crafty. Whether it be painting the plate from Moyer, or a simple shot fake or change of direction from Miller.

Baseball Position: 3B

Miller was a quarterback in high school, so I suspect he has a strong arm. Pedro Feliz should not get too worried though.

Willie Green

Phillies Comparison: Geoff Jenkins

Overpaid, thought of a little too highly, worthless most of the time, but he can come up big in spots. Geoff Jenkins started off Game 5 Part Deux of the World Series with a great double. Willie Green will never match that feat. However, Green has had his games where he can contribute nicely.

Baseball Position: 2B

It's sad I think so long and hard about these things.

Andre Iguodala

Phillies Comparison: Ryan Howard

Andre Iguodala has already cashed in for his payday. Ryan Howard will continually cash in for his paydays. Both are extreme talents who still have flaws in their games and are, at times, inconsistent. While Ryan Howard is a bit inconsistent while reaching 48 homers, Iggy is a bit inconsistent reaching 17 points a game. Not quite the same.

Baseball Position: CF

Iguodala seems like he would be excellent roaming centerfield. The speed is definitely there, and he has some of the best hands on the Sixers. Which actually is not saying that much. The next Willie Mays, certainly not. But he can surely do as good as Doug Glanville.

Thaddeus Young

Phillies Comparison: Jayson Werth

Both were not really expected to be anything great when they came to town. When Werth was acquired, it was overlooked. When Young was drafted, fans wanted somebody else. Quickly though it has been realized that both have star potential.

Baseball Position: Pitcher

Thaddeus is the left-handed pitcher that a team needs to shake up its rotation. The Mets could use a guy like him.

Samuel Dalembert

Phillies Comparison: Brett Myers

For a simple reason that I call the Frustration Level.

Baseball Position: Benchwarmer

Sorry, I will not allow the most uncoordinated man in the city of Philadelphia touch the baseball diamond.

Elton Brand

Phillies Comparison: Shane Victorino

Follow me on this one. Shane Victorino has had his role questioned on this team many times over the course of his short career. Even while performing at a high level, his name was tossed around in trade rumors and people guessed that he might never be quality starting centerfielder. While Brand was proven somewhere else, now since his has arrived in Philly, his role has been questioned. Fans do not think he is the right fit for the team, and his name has also been tossed around in rumors. Hopefully, like Victorino, Brand can play a big part in some success down the stretch. Although this success will most likely be at the level of a first round series win, not a World Series title.

Baseball Position: 1B

He's big, he's not fast, stick him at first! That's pretty much the theory with anyone with that physical description.

Lou Williams

Phillies Comparison: Greg Dobbs

Some of the best men off the bench in the business. Accept what their jobs are and perform highly whenever they are called upon.

Baseball Position: SS

Lou is the quintessential shortstop. Quickness, hands, throwing ability. J-Roll watch out, I haven't heard Lou Will call the fans frontrunners.

Reggie Evans

Phillies Comparison: Chase Utley

Before you seriously injure me, let me make a point. The two are worlds away talent wise. Chase Utley is a potential Hall of Famer. Reggie Evans might be denied admittance as a tourist into the Hall of Fame because he looks homeless. However, both have extremely scrappy attitudes, that fans love and appreciate. If you would like to injure me now, after I have defended myself, I totally understand.

Baseball Position: Catcher

Oh, the trash talk that would occur behind home plate with Reggie Evans would be something I would pay top notch dollars for. Also, his body fits the role.

Royal Ivey

Phillies Comparison: Eric Bruntlett

Both bench players who fill their roles admirably. Sort of limited talent wise, but managed to find their niche with their respective teams.

Baseball Position: Utility Man

He has proven he can play both guard spots in basketball, so why not throw him around the infield and outfield in baseball.

Theo Ratliff

Phillies Comparison: Pedro Feliz

Defense is the name of their games. And that is pretty much it. You can expect a .250 average from Pedro and a couple of dunks from Theo. They both make their money on the defensive side of the ball, and near the top of their entire leagues in doing so.

Baseball Position: Pitcher

My objective with the pitching staff is really just to throw the tallest guys out there, and make sure the opponents wet themselves in the batters box.

Donyell Marshall

Phillies Comparison: Matt Stairs

Ha, I really like this comparison. After the legendary homerun in Game 4 of the NLCS Matt Stairs said something along the lines of, "I'm not gonna lie, all I try to do is hit home runs." If Donyell Marshall were to release a quote it might read, "I'm not gonna lie, all I try to do is hit three-pointers." They are aging experts at their trades, with totally one-dimensional games.

Baseball Position: Pitcher

Marshall can get the Joe Blanton role as an overweight pitcher. If this were the American League, he might be my DH.

Kareem Rush

Phillies Comparison: Clay Condrey

Both are not really that special. Like Condrey, Rush can possibly help in an emergency situation. Condrey fills a long relief and early setup guy role decently. Rush might be able to hit a couple threes in a blowout in either direction.

Baseball Position: While relatively worthless on the Sixers, Rush may be able to hold his own in the outfield.

Marreesee Speights

Phillies Comparison: JC Romero

Both have an edge to them. Hopefully though, Speights will not soon be suspended for using illegal drugs. I hope.

Baseball Position: LF

He'd be like a freaking gazelle roaming centerfield. Come on Ruben Amaro, you could have let Pat Burrell leave, not go after Raul Ibanez, and just get Speights.

Jason Smith

Phillies Comparison: J.A. Happ

Young guys with some promise without the star potential.

Baseball Comparison: Pitcher

It would be a pretty imposing task going up against this seven footer.

Guys like Brad Lidge and Cole Hamels are just incomparable, but I would like to acknowledge their greatness. Note to Brad though, "work on your jump shot!$!#"

The Phillies have earned their trophy. I was staring at it last night. The Sixers should look at the qualities of that team to see what it will take to hold that Larry O'Brien's trophy (I think that's what it's called) one day.

How The Sixers Starters Stack Up Against The Rest Of The Eastern Conference

My goal is to rank the Sixers starters at their respective positions against the rest of the Eastern Conference.

A couple rulings before we get started. A player must have appeared in 10 games this season. Since Gilbert Arenas seems to either be in a coma or just paralyzed, he will not be included. A couple of the lineups I had to make my best assessment since they are often in flux.

*Revisions will probably be coming.

The way I based the rankings was asking myself a couple questions.

Who would I want most on my team for the rest of the season? Not who has had the best career, or is on a quick hot streak, but who I would feel most comfortable with leading into the playoffs.

Would I trade the guy ahead or below for the other just for the remainder of the season?

That's basically it. Here we go.

Point Guard

1. Devin Harris

2. Andre Miller

3. Jose Calderon

4. Mike Bibby

5. Jameer Nelson

6. Rajon Rondo

7. Mo Williams

8. Derrick Rose

9. Rodney Stuckey

10. Raymond Felton

11. TJ Ford

12. Mario Chalmers

13. Chris Duhon

14. Luke Ridnour

15. Mike James

Sixers comment: I honestly believe if you were to stick Andre Miller on the Cavs, Magic, Celtics or whomever he would make them a better team then their current point guard. Speaking just in terms for the remainder of the season, I think a lot of the teams would agree.

Shooting Guard

1. Dwyane Wade

2. Joe Johnson

3. Vince Carter

4. Allen Iverson

5. Caron Butler

6. Andre Iguodala

7. Ray Allen

8. Michael Redd

9. Ben Gordon

10. Delonte West

11. Marquis Daniels

12. Raja Bell

13. Quentin Richardson

14. Jason Kapono

15. Courntney Lee

Sixers comment: Another one I might catch some flak for. At this point though, I think Andre Iguodala can affect the game in a lot more ways beyond his statistics. It was definitely the toughest position to assess.

*Additional note. Had I substituted the current SG in place for Iggy, Willie Green would be snuggled in between Courtney Lee and Jason Kapono.

Small Forward

1. LeBron James

2. Paul Pierce

3. Danny Granger

4. Hedo Turkoglu

5. Rip Hamilton

6. Richard Jefferson

7. Shawn Marion

8. Gerald Wallace

9. Thaddeus Young

10. Marvin Williams

11. Wilson Chandler

12. Luol Deng

13. Bobby Simmons

14. Jamario Moon

15. Dominic McGuire

Sixers comment: I'm not completely sure of my rankings on this one. I feel confident about where I slotted Young though. At just 20 years old he has extremely raw talent, that is being somewhat processed. I believe he can enter the upper echelon at his position, maybe eventually sliding in just below Danny Granger.

Power Forward

1. Chris Bosh

2. Kevin Garnett

3. Tayshaun Prince

4. Rashard Lewis

5. Elton Brand

6. Josh Smith

7. Antawn Jamison

8. Al Harrington

9. Troy Murphy

10. Udonis Haslem

11. Ben Wallace

12. Drew Gooden

13. Boris Diaw

14. Luc Mbah a Moute

15. Ryan Andersen

Sixers comment: Despite his relatively poor start, and injury I still think Brand will turn his season around. His stats are not horrible, just slightly below his career averages. He is still a force in the paint, but he just needs to regain his touch and stay injury free.

Center

1. Dwight Howard

2. Rasheed Wallace

3. David Lee

4. Emeka Okafor

5. Al Horford

6. Kendrick Perkins

7. Jermaine O'Neal

8. Andrew Bogut

9. Brook Lopez

10. Anderon Varejao

11. Samuel Dalembert

12. Andray Blatche

13. Joel Anthony

14. Roy Hibbert

15. Aaron Gray

Sixers comment: Dalembert is one of the most up and down players in the league. He can be a defensive force for stretches and then absolutely kill you with dumb mistakes for elongated stretches.

Trying to Figure Out the Philadelphia 76ers

The middle of a season is always a good assessment point for a franchise. Forty-one games is an adequate sampling in order to evaluate an NBA team. With that being said, the Philadelphia 76ers team is tougher to figure out than an episode of Lost. (Seriously though, what the hell is happening with that show?)

The Sixers reached the midpoint of the NBA season with a record of 20-21. That is exactly on their pace of a 40-42 record that they achieved last year.

Expectations were definitely higher entering the season, you know, considering they had signed a player for a $80 million contract. The guy also happened to be a two-time All-Star.

What's the deal with Elton Brand?

The questions surrounding this team are stockpiling nearly as quickly as those in Lost.

Questions

Was the Brand signing a good move? Can he fit in when he returns? Will he ever return?

Time travel? Is Jack as crazy as Hurley?

How can a borderline Hall of Famer fail as a head coach, while a guy whose last gig was coaching a country that no longer exists, have success?

Where did those flaming arrows come from? Who did those lawyers really represent?

Will Thaddeus Young continue to blossom into a star, or will he just be a role player? Will Samuel Dalembert ever get traded? Will Willie Green ever be traded? Will anybody in the Sixers organization realize that Willie Green sucks? Will Andre Iguodala maintain his success when Brand returns? Can they keep shooting the three? Was the disappointing start a true indicator of the team or just a slow start?

Will Rose kill Bernard, or vice versa?

All of these are legitimate concerning questions but the most prevalent remains; what will the Sixers do with Andre Miller?

In a Jack Bauer voice, "I want answers now, damnit!"

Answers

*Always listen to Jack Bauer.

Upon his return, if it ever actually happens, Brand will prove he can work with this team. After sitting out for over a month, I think he is a smart enough guy to adjust his role accordingly but still maintain his star status. Unless Andre Iguodala takes a flaming arrow to his chest, Brand should be back within the next week.

I'm stupefied with the time travel bit. It is yet to be seen from a craziness standpoint, but I think they are both approaching a Ron Artest-level crazy.

Reggie Evans is crazier than them all.

Typically, when new General Managers enter their job, they want their own guys managing the helm of the team. Mo Cheeks, was never Ed Stefanski's guy, and I think that was clear by the only one-year extension Cheeks received over the summer. Twenty-three games in Cheeks' case was not enough of a sampling, but change was made regardless. The brilliant player just never lived up to those standards as a coach. Really, it would be hard for anyone to expect him to.

What is still confusing is the promotion of Tony DiLeo from assistant GM to head coach. His last coaching job was for West Germany. I couldn't even locate that on a map. Seriously, though, is Stefanski really considering keeping this guy around past this year? I know this is the answer section, but that one remains puzzling.

The flaming arrows emerged from Shaq's ass. Kobe, tell us how it tastes. The lawyers represented Kobe Bryant. I kid.

Thaddeus Young will be a star. Mark it down, he will be better than all but two of his fellow draftees from the 2007 class.

Samuel Dalembert is reportedly on the trading block and is being shipped hard. Personally, I'd pay to have the seven foot man packaged and sent out of this city.

Willie Green will not be traded. Much to my and many fan's dismay.

Someone in the organization will realize Green sucks, because I will make it my goal in life to tell them.

Andre Iguodala's stats will dip upon Brand's return, but his presence will continued to be felt.

Lou Williams will consistently knock down the three. Royal Ivey will not keep his hot streak going. Andre Miller will pour in unexpected buckets in key situations like always. Willie Green, "Keep on trying, buddy."

It was a slow start, the Sixers will finish No. 5 in the Eastern Conference.

Why?

Because they will keep Andre Miller.

It's almost as certain as us getting answers on that TV show I keep referencing. Oh, wait!

Miller is the catalyst for this team. He is the Donovan McNabb, scratch that, Kurt Warner of the Philadelphia 76ers. He recognizes his weapons, and makes things happen on his own. The Sixers would be a true disapointment if they opted to trade Miller.

The value that you would get in return would not be worth it for the remainder of the season. Unless an offer blows the front office away, a deal should not be done.

Since Miller's contract comes off the books at the end of the season, it will be up to extend the point guard's contract before he hits that point. Miller has stated that he prefers the West Coast, but I think he fits nicely in Philadelphia.

Ultimately, it is his decision.

If he remains, all is good, if not, I'll be even more lost.

Philadelphia 76ers' Midseason Awards

It's that time of the year to hand out some awards. No, not the Golden Globes. No, not the Academy Awards. Not even the SAG Awards (whatever they are.) The hype that you feel boiling deep down in your blood is for...The Philadelphia 76ers Midseason Awards.

A drama-free ceremony. Now, there's a thought.

They are going to be spectacular. The red carpet is rolled out. Thankfully there will be no outrageous interviews, nipple slips, or fashion gossip (although I heard Samuel Dalembert and Reggie Evans were looking quite dapper).

And thank God, there will be no sibling kissing or intercourse in the car ride over (I'm talking to you Angelina!)

This will be straight hoops. In lieu of the fashion talk, we will begin by giving grades to each individual player on the Philadelphia 76ers after the completion of 41 games.

Andre Miller- B+: My opinion of Andre Miller is very high. The dude recognizes situations in games. He knows when he must take over the game, and when Iggy or Thad are having the hot night. Simply a crafty player, and dare I say, elite point guard.

Willie Green- C-: Willie started off the season coming off the bench. The bench is his friend; it is where he belongs. He seems like a nice enough guy, but I'm sorry, he is not by any stretch a starter. The best possible scenario for Green is a decent bench player.

Andre Iguodala- B: He started off looking like a bigger waste of money than all the inauguration hoopla. However, since Brand's injury, Iguodala has re-emerged as that all-around performer that earned him his lucrative contract.

Really, it has been night and day. Maybe he will decide to hire someone to slightly re-injure Brand due to his impending return. Just kidding, or am I?

Thaddeus Young- B-: Thaddeus started brilliantly, and I honestly sent text messages comparing him to Michael Jordan. While, that was a slight overstatement, Young was playing awesome. He dipped a bit, but during the team's recent success, he has like Iguodala, resuscitated his season.

While no MJ, Thad will continue to grow, and I will likely send texts referring to him as the next Kobe.

Elton Brand- C: I think all 'Sixers fans were elated when General Manager Ed Stefanski pulled the trigger to land Brand in Philadelphia. After a mere 20 games, nearly every fan was questioning if it was the right move.

Shortly after that, Brand was injured, and has not returned to date. The puzzle piece has not fit yet, but it is way to early to come to an ultimate grading.

Samuel Dalembert- C: Sammy, Sammy, Sammy. Where do I start? His basketball intelligence has improved by zero percent over the course of his seven year NBA career. That my friends, is a steep learning curve.

His hands resemble a mix between Braylon Edwards, and Todd Pinkston when lights get in his eyes. He is unhappy with his minutes. All of this has caused the front office to explore trade possibilities.

Still, the fact remains that at times he is one of the best defensive players in the league. That limited time does not make up for all the aforementioned things.

Lou Williams- B-: After the first 15 games of the season, Lou Will's shooting percentage hovered around the 35 percent mark. He played selfish, and badly. For an unknown reason, his play has greatly picked up over the last month and a half, and is one of the best players of the bench in the entire league.

Royal Ivey- C+: When Ivey was signed over the summer, I expected he wouldn't even dress on most nights. Essentially I thought he would become Kevin Ollie Jr. I was mostly correct during the Mo Cheeks era. Then, the Tony DiLeo era began, and Ivey began to see consistent minutes. Solid defense, and a surprising developing of a 3-point shot have earned him a worthy spot in the rotation.

Marresse Speights- B-: NBA fans, I would like you to introduce you all to Rasheed Wallace's illegitimate son, or maybe nephew minus the bald spot. Speights, as a rookie has more than impressed.

Of course, coaches are at risk to defensive mistakes, but Crazy Speights rarely makes mistakes on the offensive side of the ball. He owns a beautiful touch on his shots, and can tear the rim down. Be warned, he may start to accumulate the technicals like 'Sheed, once he gets more familiar with the NBA.

Donyell Marshall- C: The grade is not for a lack of trying. Marshall has barely appeared in any games this season. He did, almost single-handedly win a game against the Pistons. Other than that, we only have seen him hoist up ill-advised (though is it really ill-advised with Donyell) threes in scrub time.

Kareem Rush- F: Doesn't seem happy. Hasn't played well.

Theo Ratliff- B: For a guy his age, with his injury history, Theo Ratliff can be dominating at times. Even downright defensive. As in blocking shots and influencing poor shots out the wazoo. Great pickup who also is helping Dalembert, ever so slowly.

Reggie Evans- B: I believe, we will hear from Reggie later in the show, but he is a straight up pest. Get in your face, grab your balls, punch you while you are down. And I love it.

Jason Smith- N/A: Smith is rehabbing from a torn ACL, and will be out the rest of the season.

The red carpet ceremony went without incident, now everyone is seated and ready to enjoy the show. Oh wait, I think Elton Brand tripped on the carpet, and will now need to sit out another 20 games. Andre Iguodala couldn't look any happier!

With that, let us begin with the awards.

Award: Best Win of the Season

And the Nominees are...

Jan. 16, 2009 Sixers defeat San Antonio Spurs 109-87

Dec. 5, 2008 Sixers defeat Detroit Pistons 96-91

Oct. 31, 2008 Sixers defeat New York Knicks 116-87

(this was included not just because they crushed the lowly Knicks, but because I attended it just mere hours of the greatest sports parade ever. Go Phillies. )

Nov. 14, 2008 Sixers defeat Indiana Pacers 94-92

And the winner is...

Win over Pacers

Ok, you are saying a two point win over the Pacers is not all that impressive. Well it is when your team trailed by 26 at one point during the game. The Sixers led by Thaddeus Young chipped away at a 26-point deficit, to prove what kind of heart the team really had.

Award: Worst Loss of the Season

And the nominees are...

Dec. 20, 2008 Sixers lose to Indiana Pacers 94-95

Dec. 26, 2008 Sixers lose to Denver Nuggets 101-105

Nov. 1, 2008 Sixers lose to Atlanta Hawks 88-95

Nov. 19, 2008 Sixers lose to Minnesota Timberwolves 96-102

And the winner is...

Sixers lose to Pacers.

We got a theme going here with games against the Pacers. Where the last one was a brilliant comeback, this was a flat out poor effort. The Pacers were missing basically their four best players from this game in Danny Granger, Marquis Daniels, Mike Dunleavy Jr, and Troy Murphy.

They were only able to field a nine-man team on the road. And quite frankly, the Sixers looked like the JV team. Come on, any time Josh McRoberts kills you, it has to be the worst loss.

Award: Best Moral Victory (even though I hate the term)

And the nominees are...

Jan. 3, 2009 Sixers lose to San Antonio Spurs 106-108

Jan. 19, 2009 Sixers lose to Dallas Mavericks 93-95

Oct. 29, 2008 Sixers lose to Toronto Raptors 84-95

And the winner is...

Sixers lose to Raptors.

Let me break down what else happened on Oct. 29, 2008. The Phillies win the World Series! It was the 'Sixers first game, so it was quite meaningless. AND the Phillies won the World Series!

Award: Best Passer

And the nominees are...

Andre Iguodala

Andre Miller

Lou Williams

And the winner is...

Andre Miller. His court vision is uncanny, and easily leads the teams in assists. Undderrated though, is Iguodala's passing ability.

Award: Best Rebounder

And the nominees are...

Reggie Evans

Theo Ratliff

Samuel Dalembert

And the winner is...

Reggie Evans. All worthy candidates. But with a relentless attitude Reggie takes the crown.

Award: Best Defender

And the nominees are...

Theo Ratliff

Samuel Dalembert

Elton Brand

Andre Iguodala

And the winner is...

Theo Ratliff. He can bang with the best in shortened minutes. If you are looking for a perimeter stopper, Iguodala is your guy.

Award: Best Dunker

And the nominees are...

Thaddeus Young

Andre Iguodala

Marreesee Speights

Lou Williams

And the winner is...

Iguodala. Speights is a fierce slammer, but until he gets gypped out of winning a Slam-Dunk competition, the title remains with Iggy.

Award: Biggest Upside

And the nominees are...

Lou Williams

Marreesee Speights

Thaddeus Young

And the winner is...

Thaddeus Young. A version of MJ. Remember?

Award: Best Scorer

And the nominees are...

Andre Iguodala

Lou Williams

Andre Miller

Willie Green (just kidding)

And the winner is...

Lou Williams. In terms of just coming in and lighting it up, Williams can be the man. Highest points per 48 minutes on the team.

Award: Best All Around Player

And the nominees are...

Andre Iguodala

Andre Miller

Elton Brand

And the winner is...

Andre Miller. The coveted award goes to Miller. The crafty professional gets it so many ways.

Award: The Most Annoying Guy in the World that You Love

A confusing award with only one true nominee and therefore winner.

Reggie Evans.

He never stops complaining to the refs. He shoots 1.7 times a game. That is 1.7 times to many. He picks up dumb fouls. Yet, I love him.

He annoys the hell out of other coaches, players, and fans. He causes technicals, bad shots, and is always smiling while doing it.

With that, it is off to the after party(ies).

In Retrospect...The 2004 NBA Draft

How It Went Down

1. Orlando Magic- Dwight Howard: Remember that debate about Howard or Okafor? Yeah, that was stupid.

2. Charlotte Bobcats- Emeka Okafor

3. Chicago Bulls- Ben Gordon

4. LA Clippers- Shaun Livingston: Horrific injury has set back, maybe even ruined, this once-promising career.

5. Washington Wizards- Devin Harris

6. Atlanta Hawks- Josh Childress

7. Phoenix Suns- Luol Deng

8. Toronto Raptors-Rafael Araujo

9. Philadelphia 76ers- Andre Iguodala: Thank god he dropped to us.

10. Cleveland Cavaliers- Luke Jackson

11. Golden State Warriors- Andris Biedrins

12. Seattle Supersonics- Robert Swift: Wow. What a mistake.

13. Portland Trail Blazers-Sebastian Telfair

14. Utah Jazz-Kris Humphries

15. Boston Celtics- Al Jefferson: Most key pick in the draft.

16. Utah Jazz- Kirk Snyder

17. Atlanta Hawks- Josh Smith

18. New Orleans Hornets- J.R. Smith

19. Miami Heat-Dorell Wright: Back-to-back-to-back high school players taken.

20. Denver Nuggets- Jameer Nelson: National Player of the Year dropped on draft night.

21. Utah Jazz- Pavel Padkolzin: Needless to say, this guy never panned out.

22. New Jersey Nets- Viktor Khryapa

23. Portland Trail Blazers- Sergei Monia: The Blazers sure do have their fair share of foreign picks.

24. Boston Celtics- Delonte West

25. Boston Celtics- Tony Allen

26. Sacramento Kings- Kevin Martin

27. LA Lakers- Sasha Vujacic

28. San Antonio Spurs- Beno Udrih

29. Indiana Pacers- David Harrison

*Minnesota Timberwolves forfeited first-round pick

Second Round Notables

30. Orlando Magic- Anderson Varejao

37. Atlanta Hawks- Royal Ivey

38. Chicago Bulls- Chris Duhon

43. New York Knicks- Trevor Ariza

If GM's could go back in time...

1. Dwight Howard: A complete beast offensively and defensively. Will own the title of best center in the league for years to come.

2. Al Jefferson: Owns a plethora of offensive moves. Another dominanting type of big man.

3. Devin Harris: Has completely taken off in the scoring category this year. Scary quickness.

4. Josh Smith: Extremely athletic, hasn't completely translated it yet.

5. Andre Iguodala: Iguodala has a very nice game. Just not a "$80 million" nice game.

6. Andris Biedrins: Sort of unknown, but a very good player.

7. Ben Gordon: An elite sixth men, a good starter. Brings instant offense to any team that may grab him after this year.

8. Kevin Martin: Has proven that he is an upper-echelon scorer in the NBA. Sort of one-dimensional.

9. Emeka Okafor: His game is a known quantity. Brings it on defense and the boards. Has a decent offensive game. Nothing spectacular; just very solid.

10. Luol Deng: I'm sorry; I just have never liked Deng's game. He uses his length well, but just is not that great.

11. Jameer Nelson: Personally, I'm biased. Nelson was one of the best players in Big 5 history. His game is very solid in the NBA. Not at the All-Star level, just very solid.

12. Delonte West: Is a starter for the third-best team in the NBA. That has to say something.

13. JR Smith: Explosive talent, just not all there.

14. Anderson Varejao: Annoying, but in a good way.

15. Tony Allen: A World Champion.

16. Beno Udrih: Very capable of handling the starting point guard duties for a bad team. Backup on a title contender.

17. Chris Duhon: Excelling in new system.

18. Sasha Vujacic: Scrappy. Simple as that.

19. Sebastian Telfair: The hype got to him.

20. Trevor Ariza: Provides great depth to a team like the Lakers.

21. Shaun Livingston: Go to YouTube. Watch the play he got injured on. You do the math.

22. Royal Ivey: Just another end of the rotation guy. Good defensive PG.

23. Dorell Wright: At least he is still in the league.

24. Josh Childress: Somewhere in Greece. May come back to the NBA and help a team coming off the bench.

Note: Everyone else sucked.

The Magic definitely should be happy. They got two starters out of the 2004 NBA Draft. One is a future Hall of Famer.

Kevin Martin was the steal of the draft. A little known player out of Western Carolina was selected 26th overall, and ever since has not stopped scoring.

The major busts include Rafael Araujo, Luke Jackson, and Robert Swift.

The 2004 NBA Draft should be remembered for the high school sensation. As the age of directly jumping to the NBA was fading, high schools produced talent along the likes of Dwight Howard, Al Jefferson, Sebastian Telfair, Josh Smith, Shaun Livingston, J.R. Smith, Robert Swift, and Dorell Wright.

Eight first rounders came to the NBA directly from prom night. I'm sure the Magic, as well as a few other teams, are not complaining.

Coolest Names in the NBA

Coolest First Names

Carmelo Anthony - Smooth.

Kobe Bryant - Awesome.

LeBron James - His mother must have known he was going to be someone special, because she sure gave him a unique name. I guarantee before King James rose to prominence, no one else in the world shared the same name.

LaMarcus Aldridge - Not just Marcus, but LaMarcus.

Speedy Claxton - Not his birth name, but 'Speedy' has taken over.

Jacque Vaughn - Only a great name because he sounds like the Frenchest (new word) person ever. Only problem is that he is flat-out black.

Nene - Got to give props to the one-name only guys.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas

Von Wafer

Kevin Love - The Gay/Love, Love/Gay era in Memphis could have been something special. Oh well.

Rudy Gay

Wally Szczerbiak

Stromile Swift - Very elegant.

Zaza Pachulia

Tayshaun Prince

Andris Biedrins

DeSagana Diop

Kosta Koufos - Alliteration gets points in my book.

Rajon Rondo - Ditto.

Rasho Nesterovic

OJ Mayo - Or Ovinton J'Anthony Mayo.

Yakhouba Diawara

Luc Richard Mbah a Mouté

Eduardo Najera

Royal Ivey - Just smooth.

Sonny Weems

Thabo Sefolosha - Sounds like a straight up Swedish weightlifter.

Oleksiy Pecherov - Is this hockey?

Jamario Moon

Didier Ilunga-Mbenga - Say what?

In Retrospect... | The 2006 NBA Draft

People say that you can determine whether a player is legit or a bust after three years in the league. This season is the third year for the 2006 NBA Draft Class.

How It Went

1. Toronto Raptors

Andrea Bargnani: I questioned this when it happened. Now my thoughts are confirmed.

2. Chicago Bulls

Tyrus Thomas: Spectacular playmaker in one year at LSU.

3. Charlotte Bobcats

Adam Morrison: The infamous stache.

4. Portland Trail Blazers

LaMarcus Aldridge

5. Atlanta Hawks

Shelden Williams

6. Minnesota Timberwolves

Brandon Roy

7. Boston Celtics

Randy Foye

8. Houston Rockets

Rudy Gay

9. Golden State Warriors

Patrick O'Bryant

10. Seattle Supersonics

Saer Sene: Who?

11. Orlando Magic

J.J. Redick: Why?

12. New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets

Hilton Armstrong

13. Philadelphia 76ers

Thabo Sefolosha

14. Utah Jazz

Ronnie Brewer: Steal.

15. New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets

Cedric Simmons

16. Chicago Bulls

Rodney Carney

17. Indiana Pacers

Shawne Williams

18. Washington Wizards

Oleksiy Pecherov

19. Sacremento Kings

Quincy Douby

20. New York Knicks

Renaldo Balkman

21. Phoenix Suns

Rajon Rondo

22. New Jersey Nets

Marcus Williams

23. New Jersey Nets

24. Memphis Grizzlies

Kyle Lowry

25. Cleveland Cavaliers

Shannon Brown

26. LA Lakers

Jordan Farmar

27. Phoenix Suns

Sergio Rodriguez

28. Dallas Mavericks

Maurice Ager

29. New York Knicks

Mardy Collins

30. Portland Trail Blazers

Joel Freeland

Notable Second Rounders

36. Minnesota Timberwolves

Craig Smith

42. Cleveland Cavaliers

Daniel Gibson

47. Utah Jazz

Paul Millsap

49. Denver Nuggets

Leon Powe

After a Three-Year Trial Period, How It Should've Went...

1. Brandon Roy

Already an All-Star. Centerpiece star for up and coming Blazers.

2. Rudy Gay

Potential to be an All-Star. High-flying swingman.

3. Rajon Rondo

Already owns an NBA title as a starting point guard. Not too shabby.

4. LaMarcus Aldridge

Another great piece to the Blazers puzzle.

5. Ronnie Brewer

Has emerged as a quality starting shooting guard.

6. Randy Foye

Injury troubles, but skill is there. Foye is a solid starter in the league.

7. Paul Millsap

Great second round find. Could do decent job replacing Carlos Boozer.

8. Jordan Farmar

I see an Andre Miller type player in Farmar.

9. Craig Smith

Not a starter but a tenacious player.

10. Daniel Gibson

"Booooooooobie"

11. Andrea Bargnani

A seven footer who averages four boards a game for his career. Really?

12. Leon Powe

For some reason, I love his game. Another contributor to the World Champs.

13. Kyle Lowry

In a tough situation in Memphis. Could excel elsewhere.

14. Tyrus Thomas

Flashes of brilliance. More flashes of bust.

15. Josh Boone

A decent backup big man.

(Here is where it starts getting ugly...)

16. Hilton Armstrong

Good as fourth big.

17. Sergio Rodriguez

Perennial trade bait.

18. Shelden Williams

Note to GM's: Don't draft Duke boys too high.

19. Adam Morrison

Elite shooter in college only shooting 38 percent in pros.

20. Renaldo Balkman

Pesky player. Nice complementary guy on a good team.

21. Rodney Carney

One of the most athletic players in the NBA. Besides that, he has no game.

22. Thabo Sefolosha

An NBA player from Switzerland? Come on.

23. Marcus Williams

Marcus Williams is the guy whom I thought could be great, but has not played well in the league. Already traded, not much going on in Golden State.

24. J.J. Redick

Most memorable play in the NBA...airballing a layup. Don't draft Duke boys.

25. Mardy Collins

Initiated Nuggets-Knicks brawl. That's about it.

26. Quincy Douby

End-of-rotation-type guy.

27. Cedric Simmons

Barely plays anymore.

28. Shawne Williams

Off-court troubles has staggered on-court success.

29. Maurice Ager

Limited playing time, developmental player.

30. Patrick O'Bryant

NCAA Tournament star never quite panned out.

The Trail Blazers and Jazz are definitely very satisfied with their draft class of 2006. Portland was able to get a perennial All-Star in Brandon Roy and another guy who could take his game to that level in LaMarcus Aldridge. Utah solidified the guard and forward positions by drafting steals in Ronnie Brewer and Paul Millsap.

Rajon Rondo is my steal of the class, though. The kid was criticized immensely after leaving college. He was too weak, a poor shooter, couldn't run an offense, etc. Now look. An NBA Finals victory and the kid is off and running, posting his first career triple-double last week. Having Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, and Ray Allen does help things a bit.

Overall, this class is definitely not one of the stronger ones in history. Andrea Bargnani as the No. 1 pick? You get my point.

In Retrospect...the 2005 NBA Draft

I will be doing a random installment looking back on past NBA drafts. There is no rhyme or reason to it, other than it is fun.

See what teams wish they would have scouted more, and see the teams that came away with steals. Looking back, many of these drafts could have re-shaped the league.

2005 NBA Draft

How It Went

1. Milwaukee Bucks- Andrew Bogut: Drafted for need. Big mistake.

2. Atlanta Hawks- Marvin Williams: Bet they wish they would have taken a point guard.

3. Utah Jazz- Deron Williams

4. New Orleans Hornets- Chris Paul

5. Charlotte Bobcats- Raymond Felton

6. Portland Trail Blazers-Martell Webster

7. Toronto Raptors- Charlie Villanueva

8. New York Knicks- Channing Frye

9. Golden State Warriors-Ike Diogu

10. LA Lakers- Andrew Bynum: Ridiculed at the time, now beloved.

11. Orlando Magic- Fran Vazquez: Never played a second in the NBA.

12. LA Clippers-Yaroslav Korolev: Piece of evidence #1,225,654 why the Clippers will forever suck.

13. Charlotte Bobcats- Sean May

14. Minnesota Timberwolves-Rashad McCants

15. New Jersey Nets- Antoine Wright

16. Toronto Raptors- Joey Graham

17. Indiana Pacers- Danny Granger

18. Boston Celtics- Gerald Green: We wondered why he fell at the time. Now we know.

19. Memphis Grizzlies- Hakim Warrick

20. Denver Nuggets- Julius Hodge: Never recovered from that Chris Paul ball tap.

21. Phoenix Suns- Nate Robinson

22. Denver Nuggets- Jarret Jack

23. Sacremento Kings- Francisco Garcia

24. Houston Rockets- Luther Head

25. Seattle SuperSonics- (Sorry, Seattle.) Johan Petro (Sorry, Oklahoma City.)

26. Detroit Pistons-Jason Maxiell

27. Portland Trail Blazers-Linas Kleiza

28. San Antonio Spurs-Ian Mahinmi

29. Miami Heat-Wayne Simien

30. New York Knicks- David Lee

Notable Second Rounders

31. Atlanta Hawks- Salim Stoudemire

33. New Orleans Hornets- Brandon Bass

34. Utah Jazz- C.J. Miles

37. LA Lakers- Ronny Turiaf

40. Golden State Warriors- Monta Ellis

45. Philadelphia 76ers- Louis Williams

49. Washington Wizards- Andray Blatche

50. Boston Celtics- Ryan Gomes

56. Detroit Pistons- Amir Johnson

In retrospect...

1. Chris Paul: Hall of Famer, revolutionary to the point guard position.

2. Deron Williams: Very solid player. Not at the level of Paul though.

3. Andrew Bynum: Could develop into a dominant big man, if he hasn't already.

4. Danny Granger: Versatile and possibly the biggest steal of the draft.

5. Monta Ellis: Despite the contract controversy, Ellis should light it up when he returns. Great pick considering he was a high school kid.

6. Andrew Bogut: Not No. 1 talent, but a decent player.

7. Raymond Felton: A serviceable starter.

8. Marvin Williams: No. #2 was too high, this fits.

9. David Lee: Energizer bunny. Great rebounder. Bright spot on Knicks for the past couple years.

10. Lou Williams: Has struggled this season, but has shown glimpses of being a great scorer.

11. Charlie Villanueva: Not a starter, but not bad.

12. Jason Maxiell: Game goes way beyond box score. I'm sure the Pistons would not have had it any other way.

13. Rashad McCants: Just giving some love to my UNC boys.

14. Martell Webster: Has bright future with Blazers.

15. Hakim Warrick: For size, not a great rebounder, but can score the ball.

16. Nate Robinson: Rollercoaster player. Can be electrifying, then he can suck.

17. CJ Miles: Has started this year, shown some promise.

18. Ryan Gomes: A nice extra piece for Minnesota in the KG deal.

19. Jarret Jack: Serviceable backup.

20. Luther Head: Nice shooter, doesn't find much playing time.

21. Francisco Garcia: Nothing extraordinary. Fits in some rotations.

22. Ronny Turiaf: Doesn't show up on the stat sheet, but is a pest on the court.

23. Linas Kleiza: Last season could have been a mirage. Kleiza is just a nice role player.

24. Andray Blatche: He is the guy I still think can jump ahead.

25. Amir Johnson: Still raw talent, but nothing much shown yet.

26. Brandon Bass: Eh.

27. Ike Diogu: Good early in career, now barely plays.

28. Sean May: Injury problems have caused a tough career for May. It is a shame.

29. Gerald Green: Won a dunk contest.

30. Salim Stoudemire: Out of league after three years.

It got a little tough in the middle to the end to distinguish where certain players should be assigned. I combined the past, present, and future to estimate where they should have fallen.

A couple things are clear. Milwaukee and Atlanta surely regret not selecting Deron Williams or Chris Paul. The Pacers got a complete steal with Danny Granger.

The Warriors found a diamond in Monta Ellis. As always in the draft, there are some regrets and some happy people. (Cough, New Orleans.)

Could The Answer Be "The Answer" for The Sixers?

I promise the love affair with Allen Iverson will soon stop. At least publicly. Just hear me out on this.

Bringing back Iverson to the Sixers could work.

"Man, you're crazy!" "What drugs are you taking!" I know that is what you are thinking, and no, I'm not on drugs.

The addition of Iverson after this season could make the Sixers relevant again, and leapfrog the team to the top of the Eastern Conference.

If "A.I." were to sign with the Sixers, it would immediately become either the most talented team of his time in Philadelphia.

It certainly would not be the days of Kenny Thomas or Marc Jackson as your second leading scorer. The current cast is miles ahead of the likes of Matt Harpring, Matt Geiger, Keith Van Horn, Aaron McKie, and Tyrone Hill as your offensive weapons.

When Iverson left he was dealing with a timid Andre Iguodala, a mess named Samuel Dalembert, and a complete bum named Chris Webber.

Now, the Sixers team has a much improved Iguodala, a budding superstar in Thaddeus Young, a quality post presence in Elton Brand, a quality bench, and oh yeah that mess named Samuel Dalembert.

Some may have called Iverson "selfish" when he was a Sixer. It was true, but only because he had absolutely zero help. Now he is a changed player.

As a Sixer, Iverson averaged over 23 shots a game. In the years since his departure he has taken barely over 18 shots a game. In this 14 game stretch as a Piston, only 14 a game. The common denominator; he has had help. (I'm so good at alliteration.)

The benefits of Iverson in the lineup.

1. Elton Brand faces a significantly less amount of double teams. The threat of Iverson forces teams to abandon doubling Elton. Elton gets more opens looks closer to the basket.

2. Andre Iguodala is able to function. Before, Iverson hogged the ball and Iguodala seemed afraid of demanding it. Now, Iverson will recognize the improvement in Andre's game, and will feed him more. Iguodala will never, ever face a double team.

3. Thaddeus Young will be barely noticed on the court. That is until he begins dropping 30PPG, and starts in the All-Star game. He will first thank God, then thank Allen Iverson.

4. The Sixers improve late in games. (See above.)

5. We get to see his dazzling play and marvel at how he does it.

The return of Iverson would also generate a lot of interest from Philadelphia sports fans. Currently, the Sixers rank last in the league in attendance. Back in the day (like five years ago) the crowd in Philadelphia would witness magnificent showcases of talent on a nightly basis.

With Iverson back, the Wachovia Center would really be rocking again. Surely, this alone would be well worth the investment.

Obviously there are some setbacks for this to occur and that would need to be addressed.

What is Allen Iverson worth? Will he welcome a return to Philly?

Iverson's $20,840,625 salary comes off the books after this season. Iverson signed his current deal way back in the 2003 season where he was still a dominant force in the league.

Iverson would no longer be classified as elite, but he definitely is still All-Star caliber. Purely a guess, but a contract that I find plausible would be three years, $35 million.

In addition, I think he would love to return to this team and this city. Iverson came close to a championship eight years, ago, and would welcome another opportunity.

A lot of this hinges on the decision that is made regarding the future of Andre Miller. The Sixers have a wide range of possibilities including; trading him now, extending him now, letting his deal come off the books in the summer, or re-signing him in the summer.

If some contracts are dumped, maybe we could retain Miller and sign Iverson. Imagine that, Miller, Iverson, Iguodala, Young, Brand. That's the formula for a championship!

Maybe it could work, maybe not, maybe I am absolutely insane for even suggesting this, but I think it is worth a try to find "The Answer" for the Sixers.

The Legacy of Allen Iverson

Unlike in the MLB, NBA players are not formally associated with a specific team as they enter the Hall of Fame. However, when Allen Iverson is introduced into Springfield, Massachusetts in precisely 11 years, fans will remember him for baggy clothing, tattoos, missing practice, and being a Philadelphia 76er.

Entertaining, scrappy, troubled, underdog, confusing, incredible, frustrating, tough, selfish, smart, amazing, funny, remarkable, stupid, and revolutionary are all words which can describe the man often referred to as A.I.

A game did not go by where he did not dazzle the audience. From scooping lay-ups to unthinkable runners, fans from opposing cities went to Sixers games and made it a priority to view "The Answer."

His style of play was completely admired by the Philadelphia fans. The underdog status was obvious with his minute stature but huge heart. Diving for loose balls, and playing through injuries were a common occurrence.

Unfortunately, common occurrences also included arguments with the coach, and a missed practice or two.

Iverson was truly a revolutionary figure in the NBA. He ushered out the Michael Jordan era and ushered in the hip hop reign in the NBA. His game and off-court style changed the face of the 76ers franchise and the league.

Iverson's highlights as a Sixer include the No.1 overall selection, rookie of the year, regular season MVP, two time All-Star MVP, four time scoring champion, and leading the Sixers to the 2000-2001 NBA Finals.

Last year I attended Iverson's return to Philly, and described the spectacular reunion.

Wow! I am about to describe one of the most surreal and utterly fascinating events I have ever seen. Yes, Allen "The Answer" Iverson's return to Philadelphia, this time as a Denver Nugget. Here is a quick time line.

6:43 "The Denver Nuggets take the floor." Allen comes jogging out and already there is a ton of applause. No acknowledgment from Iverson, but we all know what is coming.

7:01 PA Announcer, "Ladies and gentlemen let's welcome back from Georgetown University, starting at guard, No. 3, Allen Iverson." Craziness ensues. I'm standing. 20,000 others are standing, clapping, yelling, admiring. It is really hard to put into words. The videos don't do the moment justice. The decibel level resembled that of a fighter jet taking off, seriously. Iverson proceeds to cup his hand to his ear, and it gets louder. Amazing!

Tonight, the Sixers face Iverson's new team the Detroit Pistons. It was weird to think of him as a Nugget, but now a Piston?

Ironically, the new face of the franchise, Elton Brand, will not be playing after suffering an injury against the Lakers. Needless to say as "A.I." drives the lane, a flood of memories will be brought back.

Iverson's contract expires after this season. Does "A.I." have any desire to be a Sixer again? Could he actually be the "Answer" for this team? Would the fan's welcome him back? Is it just wishful thinking on this fan's part?

Regardless of his future in the league, Allen Iverson will forever be remembered for rejuvenating the Philadelphia basketball scene, and donning that No.3 Sixers uniform.

Sixers Have 76 Problems, but Being Rich Ain't One

Hit me!

With the most impressive offseason trades and maneuvers of any team in the NBA, the Philadelphia 76ers were expected to be contenders in the Eastern Conference. So far that has not happened, as they are 8-11.

Blame can be placed in a number of areas. Therefore I have concocted a list of 76 problems for this team. Certainly the wealth of the players is not on the list.

1. Andre Iguodala is being paid $80 million. Seriously?

2. Iguodala is being paid over $13 million a year, and is averaging just 13 points a game. Basically he’s making a million dollars for every point he averages. Sad.

3. Elton Brand received $80 million as well.

4. $80 million has resulted in a big man who has been a 45 percent shooter.

5. ATTENDANCE.

6. Lou Williams is a $25 million scrub. It is looking like he will never be able to handle the starting point guard duties.

7. Thaddeus Young might not be the next Michael Jordan. Just the next Kobe Bryant. (You know, minus the rape thing.)

8. Lou Williams is selfish.

9. There is not one great nickname for a player on the team. Sorry, "The Haitian Sensation" isn't cutting it for me.

10. They do not have the same style as last year. Running has been cut down, and half court has only marginally improved.

11. They shoot only 73.5 percent from the line, which is third worst in the league.

12. The Knicks are ahead of them in the standings. (That was painful to type.)

13. Andre Miller has some severely broken ankles. (You Tube that shit.)

14. After making an effort to improve three-point shooting, the Sixers are still in the bottom quarter of the league, connecting only 33 percent of the time.

15. Really, I'm worried about Miller's broken ankles.

16. We can't see Jason Smith in action for another year. It would have been nice to see how he complimented Brand.

17. Mo Cheeks may not be the guy that can lead the team to a championship.

18. Mo Cheeks' rotations are a bit questionable.

19. Mo Cheeks struggles with decisions late in games. I'll stop the bashing now.

20. The 76ers rank last in the league in attendance in terms of capacity of the arena.

21. No more Allen Iverson. (Weeping.)

22. No more Kevin Ollie. (Kidding.)

23. No more Chris Webber. (Again, just kidding.)

24. Even in the seventh year of his career, Samuel Dalembert still has the basketball IQ of a fourth grader.

25. Too many turnovers; over 16 times a game.

26. Sammy D thinks he is an All-Star. Sammy D is wrong.

27. Thaddeus Young can't...nah, not going to bash my boy.

28. Financially tied. They will miss out on the LeBron sweepstakes. Yeah, they'll be just about the only team in the league not in contention.

29. Phillies win the World Series!

30. Wait?

31. That's the best thing that has ever happened!

32. Last place in the division is not what fans expected.

33. Theo Ratliff is not the same Theo. (Duh.)

34. The chemistry is not there right now.

35. They have trouble defending the three.

36. Mareesee Speights? Even the name is hard to spell.

37. Ed Stefanski is not a complete and utter genius. (It was news to me.)

38. They face a tough decision about whether or not to keep Andre Miller. Should they extend him? Should they try to trade him and get something in return? Should they let him walk in free agency?

39. Defensive rotations are iffy at times.

40. We have barely seen Donyell Marshall. Marshall has appeared in only three games, although we could have used his three-point shooting.

41. Lou Williams is selfish.

42. I'm hungry.

43. Thaddeus Young can't...never going to happen.

44. Willie Green is a fraud.

45. We have known Willie Green is a fraud forever, yet nothing has been done.

46. Kareem Rush hasn't been the consistent shooter we had hoped for.

47. There have been no hints at any potential changes.

48. Announcer Bob Salmi never makes a new point.

49. Their lack of aggression or assertion at times. Basically, need to be more like the Celtics.

50. Despite his limited playing time, Royal Ivey is still only shooting 34 percent.

51. Elton Brand is no Moses Malone. What the hell were we thinking?

52. They gave up a 23-point lead to the Hawks.

53. No go-to guy in crunch time.

54. Andre Miller is not getting any younger.

55. There is a great chance that Ty Lawson will not be a Sixer next year. For this, I am pissed.

56. I miss Shavlik Randolph.

57. Team goes through awful in-game stretches. (Hey, welcome to the NBA!)

58. They were embarrassed by the Bobcats and Timberwolves. Wow!

59. Is the upcoming draft class any good?

60. Reggie Evans hasn't provided the same spark as last year.

61. Evans is being paid almost $5 million per year over the next three.

62. They stand around when Elton is double-teamed.

63. Biggest cheer at the game is when Jimmy Rollins is introduced to the crowd.

64. No more guys like George Lynch, Tyrone Hill, Dikembe Mutumbo, Eric Snow, and others from the 2000-2001 team.

65. I'm blanking.

66. They’re not a great passing team, just mediocre.

67. They are not the Phillies.

68. They cannot compete with the...

69. Celtics

70. Cavs

71. Magic

72. Oh yeah, Samuel Dalembert will be paid of $30 million over the next three years. That is what I call beautiful.

73. I'm stretching for more...

74. Still thinking...

75. Jay-Z added 23 more problems for his song.

76. Congratulations for reading all of this...or for being an expert skimmer.

Andre Iguodala Continues the Philadephia 76ers' "A.I." Woes

The initials “A” and “I” are uttered as one, and immediately Philadelphia 76ers fans are brought joy.

Recollections of the spectacular and always entertaining Allen Iverson still reign within recent memory.

Coincidentally, as the torch from the Iverson era dimmed, Sixers fans welcomed a new A.I. This new A.I. showed promise with dazzling dunks and stellar defense. The flame from that nearly forgotten torch was rekindled last season, but now fans are feeling burned by Andre Iguodala.

Now, it would be completely unfair to compare or expect the new A.I. to be in the same stratosphere as No. 3. But seriously, he can’t do any better than this?

With an $80 MILLION contract you are at the very least supposed to compete for the All-Star team. Matter of fact they should make it a clause in a contract that hefty: “You must score over 15 points a game, and be deserving of a berth on the All-Star ballot.” (General managers, take note.)

So far this year, Iguodala’s contract has made Wally Szczerbiak’s deal look like the contract of the century.

The obvious answer behind his struggles would be the chemistry that has or has not been developed between newcomer Elton Brand and Iguodala. Last season “Iggy” was the go to guy all year for the Sixers. Now things have changed, and “EB” is the one faced with the double teams.

All players on the Sixers, not just Iguodala, tend to stand around once Brand gets the ball in the post. We need more of that slashing attitude from Iguodala, where Brand can hit him going to the hoop. Over time, I believe this issue will be less and less prevalent.

Could the reason for his diminished play simply come from a position change? Last season, Iguodala started all 82 games, plus six in the playoffs, as the Sixers' small forward. With the acquisition of Elton Brand and the emergence of Thad Young as an absolute B-E-A-S-T, Iguodala was moved to the two spot in the offseason.

Sorry, but that is a weak-ass excuse. He is a 6'6" man who is athletic and talented enough to be able to cover multiple positions. His responsibilities have remained the same for the most part. Maybe we should just label him a “guard” because he definitely can’t shoot this season.

A concrete reason for the new A.I.’s struggles has been his shooting. Iguodala has never had a beautiful jumper, but last year he managed to shoot 46 percent while shooting almost 16 times per game. This year, he is managing to shoot just over 41 percent on just 12 shots a game.

Not only has his field-goal percentage dipped, but his three-point percentage, free-throw percentage, and steals per game have dropped as well. He is scoring a measly 13.7 points a game. Could it be that with $80 million, Andre spent more time over the summer living luxuriously than developing a luxurious jump shot? It is unknown. One thing that we do know is that more consistency from Iguodala is needed.

The main concern I have with Andre Iguodala is that he has lost a lot of his aggression. He is settling for those jumpers, even though they have not been too friendly to him. Take the ball to the rim young fellow, and work magic there. This season Iguodala is averaging nearly two less free-throw attempts per game. This is an obvious sign that the fire just is not there.

Is he content with being a third banana on the Sixers? Is he thrilled with his contract, and feels like he doesn’t have to try as hard? Will he develop a consistent jump shot? Will the Sixers as a team develop better chemistry? All are legitimate questions that should soon be answered.

Andre Iguodala will never be the player Allen Iverson was. But hey, at least this A.I. goes to practice!
