The Cleveland Browns' Worst Draft Picks: 1999-2003

" And with the 1st pick in the 1999 NFL draft, the Cleveland Browns select........ " Tim Couch. The Browns were on their way back into the NFL having selected their franchise Quarterback. A player who would likely be the cornerstone of the offense for the next ten years. Right? Well lets see. The players we passed on to take Couch no. 1 overall, Donovan McNabb, Champ Bailey, Chris McAlister and the Saints entire draft. Couch had the potential to become a good quarterback if he would have had a line and some skilled position players to take the pressure off of his shoulders. The only player he had was Kevin Johnson, Taken 1st in the 2nd round that year. Couch put together numerous 4th quarter comebacks during his tenure with the Browns, but the constant beatings his body took week after week proved to be more than he could handle. After the Browns released him, he went on to tryout for teams like the Bears, Packers and Jaguars not making the team on any of them. He would eventual call it quits after testing positive for steroids.

Begin Slideshow

A Cleveland Browns Fan's Christmas List

What would you like for Christmas little boy?

1. I want something that resembles an NFL football team.

2. I want an Owner that is not afraid to speak in front of the camera.

3. I want a GM to practice what he preaches, and doesn't make comments detrimental to the team.

4. I want a head coach who shows a little fire on the sidelines.

5. I want an RB who can gain more than three yards per carry.

6. I want want Edwards to give up five hour energy and think about three hour hands.

7. I want Stallworth to go back to where he came from.

8. I want the Browns to score an offensive touchdown.

9. I want an oxygen tank on Shaun Rodgers back, so he doesn't have to miss a snap.

10. And if it's not asking to much, I'd like a little pride for the city of Cleveland.

Merry Christmas Cleveland Fans, And A Happy New Year!!!

The Cleveland Browns' Honey Do List

The Cleveland Browns are going to have their hands full this offseason.

There will be a number of decisions that need immediate attention, like who will be head coach in 2009? What to do with Anderson? What do we do with the RB position?

Those are just a few issues that need to be dealt with.

We still have issues with WR, LB, CB, and defensive coordinator. Really, that's not it, but I don't want to sound like I'm nitpicking.

If the Browns want to keep Romeo as Head coach for stability, I guess I can understand. They have had four head coaches since they came back in 1999.

Now, if that's what happens, they have to go out and get a top-notch defensive coordinator and really take a long hard look at Rob Chudzinski.

Mel Tucker, their current defensive coordinator, just can't seem to get a solid game plan. Week after week teams consistently pile up 150+ rushing yards on them. Teams pass down the middle of the field with ease. It's the same thing each week, and he doesn't have an answer.

Chudzinski did a great job last season with his play calling, but this year the offense is nothing more than predictable and boring. I still think he should keep his job, based on last season alone, but he needs to do something besides run on first and second down and pass on third.

Which brings me to the next issue: Jamal Lewis. Is it just me, or does Lewis look for the biggest pile of bodies and run right into it? He has lost whatever kind of cutback abilities he had. If you need a yard, he'll get you two, if you need five yards, he'll get you two. That about sums up Lewis this season.

Then there's WR. Edwards continues to drop passes, and big ones at that. Stallworth is never healthy, and Winslow, who is basically a WR, may not even be here next season.

I could go on and on with the problems the Browns are going to have to deal with, but I'm starting to get depressed. I can't do it anymore. It really sucks to be a Browns fan the last 40 years or so.

Cleveland Browns: Brady Quinn Will Keep Fans Interested

At 3-5, the Cleveland Browns season could be over.

They are two games behind second place Baltimore, 1-3 within the division and yet to face teams like the Titans, Eagles, Colts, Bills and Steelers.

They will be lucky to finish 7-9.

There is only one thing they can do to try and salvage the season: Bring in Quinn.

Quite clearly Anderson is not the starting QB that Phil Savage thought he was when he signed him to a multimillion dollar contract.

He makes a solid back-up, but at his price, it's not even an option.

This franchise needs to put their ego on the back burner, and man-up to the fact that they made a mistake in starting and staying with Anderson too long.

As the season is half over, questions have already been answered about Anderson.

The only thing that the Browns can do to keep the fans interested is to bring in Quinn.

Quinn may not be the answer to the Browns problems, but they have eight games left to see if he can bring some consistency to this offense.

He may not have the strong arm of Anderson, but what good is a strong arm if you can't hit your target. At the very least he can bring accuracy to the short passing plays, that's basically where the Browns have been attacking their opponents anyways.

Anderson dosn't have what it takes to lead the Browns.

The time has come to see if Quinn can.

What do they have to lose? Why has it taken so long? Are they worried about Anderson's confidence? What about Quinn's confidence? What does he have to do to get a chance?

These are all questions to which nobody has the answers.

A good QB has an occasional bad game; not an occasional good one.

Bench Anderson and bring in Quinn, it's the only move they can make to try and keep fans from making home field advantage into a hostile environment.
