The Amazing John Cena

John Cena hails from West Newbury, MA—he didn't start out as the doctor of Thuganomics! He started out free-styling lyrics in his neighborhood and being laughed at by neighborhood kids. When Cena hit 15, that all stopped. That is when he started going to the local gym.

Cena applied to 60 colleges and was accepted by most of them. He went to Springfield College and played football there as a Division III lineman. He received a degree in Exercise Physiology.

Cena was a huge wrestling fan, growing up cheering for heroes like Hulk Hogan. He had never really considered a wrestling career.

But in 2000, Cena flew to California to pursue a career in body-building. While working at Gold's Gym in Venice, he was approached by a wrestler in training who encouraged him to enroll in classes at Ultimate Wrestling Pro. He was instantly hooked and motivated to learn everything he could about it.

Within a year the WWE signed him to a developmental contract to train at Ohio Valley Wrestling. After two years of training, he made the Smackdown roster.

John says he only got this far by remembering his roots and his mission statement: "hustle, loyalty, respect."

Accomplishments

WWE Champion

United States Champion

World Tag Team Champion

2008 Royal Rumble Winner
