2008 Year in Review

Another great year of sports, starting with a Giant win many giant shots in between and a giant loss in the end. See all of these memories in this great slideshow to review the year. Many memorable events from Stephen Curry and Davidson's NCAA tournament run to Plax's shot and the shot the giants took from that. Another unfogetable sports year, but aren't they all?
Begin Slideshow

Pennsylvania Quakers' Streak Lives On

A young team for University of Pennsylvania this year, the Quakers were
looking pretty good after a hard fight against a solid Drexel team.

This is the best things have looked for the Quakers in quite awhile. The direction the season looks to be heading is very exciting for Penn fans.

The Quakers got their first win on the fourth game of the year by beating a now 0-8 (league), 5-12 (overall) Citadel Bulldogs, who look to have problems themselves.

In their first Big Five game, Penn was unlucky enough to have to take on now number 21 Villanova. The Wildcats took an astonishing 53-22 halftime lead and never looked back, winning 87-61.

Penn won two consecutive games so far. Beating Monmouth and Elon—two not very competitive teams—Penn gave LaSalle a fight but couldn't pull out a victory.

Penn was then demolished by a pretty solid St. Joe's team.

Penn looks to keep their streak alive for most consecutive home Ivy League games won. They take on this task starting February first against Harvard, who have had some struggles themselves.

They will then take on The Big Green from Dartmouth, the following day. The Big Green are led by 6-6 junior Alex Barnett who is averaging 16 points and seven rebounds a game.

After the Quakers take on those back-to-back games, they will come back home on February 12th to battle a Princeton Tigers team that looks to be having a mediocre (at best) season.

Penn will then have another set of huge back-to-back Ivy League games against tough Brown and Yale teams.

Penn is coming off a very successful campaign last year after losing long-time coach Fran Dunphy, winning the Ivy (13-1) and giving Texas A&M a run in the Big Dance.

Unfortunately, they could not pull off an upset there.

They lost key seniors, Ibby Jaaber, Mark Zoller, and Steve Danley. But Penn has become the recent Ivy powerhouse. Hopefully they can hold onto that title this year by winning their home Ivy League games.

This year Penn is lead by freshman Tyler Bernardini and senior Brian Grandieri. Good luck to the Quakers as they look to keep their streak alive!
