Brett Favre-Adrian Peterson Show Regular Season Flair in Vikings' Win

The NFL season is almost upon us, and teams are beginning the tough task of narrowing down their rosters. As for one player, he hopes to build bonds with his players on and off the field, in hopes of a successful season which is less then two weeks away.

So, if Brett Favre has caused a so called "Schism" in the Minnesota Vikings locker room, it was certainly hushed for the time being. Especially coming off a impressive 17-10 Monday night victory over the host Houston Texans.

The Vikings looked solid on both sides of the ball in their third preseason game.

The biggest celebrity of the night however, was Brett Favre, who managed to improve from last Friday's mediocre performance against the Kansas City Chiefs in which he managed to only go 1-for-4 for four total yards passing. That single pass went to Vikings' rookie Wide Receiver Percy Harvin.

Granted it was his first official game with his new offense, Favre had to show improvement.

Coming off a full week of practice and one preseason game under his belt, Favre was expected to play the entire first half and build to rhythm and chemistry with his Viking team mates.

Favre needed to show improvement with the Vikings offense, and he did just that.

Going 13-of-18 for 142 passing yards with 1 TD. A short pass to running back Chester Taylor, who then in turn, crashed through Texan defenders on his way to a 28 yard touchdown.

It was a solid performance from the 39 year-old quarterback, but what was more impressive was his ability to control the game and make the right, necessary, decisions with the football.

The biggest positive from Favre's play was that he didn't make any crucial mistakes or turnovers through out his two and a half quarters of play.

Another Viking player in midseason form was Vikings' all-star running back Adrian Peterson, who on the first Vikings offensive play, took the handoff from Favre and sped past the Houston Texans secondary for a 75-yard touchdown run.

Peterson would finish off the night with 11 carries for 117 yards and 1 rushing TD.

The Vikings defense also looked like they were in regular season form, getting Defensive End Jared Allen back after suffering a ankle sprain during practice last week. Also returning for the starters was Nose Tackle Pat Williams, who was held out of the first two games for a minor injury and rest.

The defense forced two interceptions—Linebacker Ben Leber and Free Saftey Madieu Williams, the recipients of those interceptions. As well as, one sack from Jared Allen as the Vikings' defense wreaked havoc on the Houston Texans first and second string offenses.

Once again though, all eye were on Brett Favre, who showed off his surgically repaired arm by throwing speedy bullets into Wide Receivers Percy Harvin, Sidney Rice, and Tight End Visanthe Shianco all game long.

However, once piece missing from that Wide Receiver corps was Vikings' deep threat Bernard Berrian who was dressed up and warming up before game time, but was then seen wearing street clothes before the National anthem.

The Vikings now move on with a 3-0 record in the preseason, but must get ready to face the Dallas Cowboys in their final preseason game at home.

Also to note, Brad Childress and the Minnesota Vikings coaching staff will have reason to be busy, as they prepare to start their player cuts, in preparation for their final 53-man roster.

All NFL teams must have their rosters down to 53 players before next Saturday night.

So how do you think Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings offense looked against the Houston Texans? What did you think of the Minnesota Vikings defense so far?

Share your comments or opinions, and let your voice be heard!

Tavaris Jackson: A QB Battle and His NFL Career on the Line

On Friday against the Indianapolis Colts, QB Sage Rosenfels shined in his first game in a Minnesota Vikings uniform, going 10-for-13 for 91 yards and leading the Vikes offense to scoring drives on both series he played in.

The Vikings would go on to win the game 13-3 to take their first victory of the NFL Preseason.

Rosenfels got the start over Tavaris Jackson and used every opportunity to make his case for their starting job. He, of course, also got to work with the Vikings first team offense.

On the other hand, Jackson was put with second and third team offensive players. Jackson, unlike his counterpart, has been with the Vikings for four years now.

Jackson's style of play however, didn't reflect that out on the field.

Jackson went 7-for-15 passing and the only thing to show was a measly 39 passing yards. Not to mention a 46.7 passer rating, which isn't the best way to impress coaches in a QB competition.

Jackson seemed to make the same mental mistakes he's been known to do before and showed lack of progression in the passing game, this coming from, again, a guy entering his fourth year with the team.

At the end of the game, Jackson was not easy on himself, and knew he was falling behind in regards to the QB battle between him and Sage.

Asked about the QB competition and his performance, Jackson simply replied, "I'll let coach judge that. But honestly, me personally, I feel like I've got a lot better to get. I've got a lot more work to do."

That he does.

And he will get his chance Friday night when he gets the start against the Kansas City Chiefs in the Minnesota Vikings preseason home opener at the Metrodome.

A game that has a lot on the line for young Tavaris Jackson who may not just be fighting for a starting QB spot, but for his NFL career.

Jackson is on the last year of his draft contract, meaning unless he provides the Vikings a reason to keep him, he could find himself without a job.

Many Vikings faithful have criticized Jackson for his poor play in recent years as the Vikings starting QB, and have pleaded for change at the NFL's most crucial position.

Jackson has some good things to offer in his mobility and throwing ability, but what has been his road block to a successful NFL career has been his inability to read defenses and make timely, accurate throws.

One thing is certain, Sage Rosenfels won round one of the QB battle against the Indianapolis Colts last week. If Jackson is to win round two, he must come out and lead the Vikings offense with his arm, his legs, and his ability to control the game.

Leading the Vikings on scoring drives wouldn't be a bad idea either. It would definitely help Jackson stay alive in a QB race that many have said has already been won by Rosenfels.

In the end, the fate of the Vikings ongoing QB competition may well be decided before they even head into the Vikings preseason game at Houston.

That is if Jackson can lead the Vikings and not make the same mental mistakes he has been known for, and made during last week's preseason game against the Colts.

If Sage Rosenfels ends up shining again, this time with the second team offense, and Jackson once again makes those silly mistakes, this QB battle could be as good as done.

It will all come down to how well Jackson performs against the Chiefs and whether he can be considered a decent starting NFL QB.

Chances are, though, by the third preseason game, the Vikings will have their starting QB and his last name won't be Jackson.

Brett Favre Is Back In The Headlines-Could He Still Be A Minnesota Viking?

The Brett Favre saga, the Favre soap opera, Favre watch.

Call it what you like, but Brett Favre is back in the news again.

Foxsports.com's Jay Glazer reported earlier today that Brett Favre may still join the Minnesota Vikings before the regular season starts for the Vikings Sept. 13 at the Clevland Browns.

After a visit to the Minnesota Vikings Training Camp in Mankato, Minn., Glazer asked many Vikings' players and coaches about "when" not "if" Favre would join.

One un-named Viking told Glazer, "I'm telling you it's already done, right after the Indy game (first preseason game). I don't think anyone here doesn't think that."

Another Viking wasn't as certain but did say, "I don't know if it's done, but I think he'll be in by the third preseason game."

The Minnesota Vikings are a team considered by many to be just a QB away from a Super Bowl title, and now are in the midst a QB battle with two young players vying for the Vikings starting position.

Sage Rosenfels looked good in regards to running the Vikings offense, leading them to two scoring drives in a 13-3 win over the Indianapolis Colts in the Vikings' first pre-season game.

Tavaris Jackson, however, wasn't as successful, but looks to start this Friday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

So now Favre re-joins the mix—or does he?

All the rumors aside, Favre has already told the Vikings organization twice that he would remain retired. Wether or not Favre's story will stand remains to be seen.

The ugly truth is, Favre doesn't like Training Camp and will do anything to skip camp. So who's to say this isn't another Favre gimic to try and get more lime light?

In the past three months, no NFL story has had bigger coverage then Favre's continuous flirtation with a return with the Minnesota Vikings.

If Favre does join, it will be the 19th season for Favre, who will be 40 years old later this October.

However, as we all know, Favre is a tough subject, a complicated, strenuous story that is never 100 percent or a for sure thing.

Regardless of what happens this week or in the next few weeks ahead, this story is still just a simple rumor.

It cannot be taken seriously until real evidence can back up these publications of eccentric sports writers who manage to get the football world in a fuss over a simple rumor.

As always, this story always changes, Favre can never close the door on anything, and this is another Favre- related story that you will have to stay tuned to see if any further developments do arise.

The Minnesota Vikings 2009 Season: A Shaky QB Competiton Will Decide It All

When quarterback Sage Rosenfels took to the field for the first time as a Minnesota Viking at training camp in Mankato, he was guaranteed one sure thing: He would get a shot at the starting QB position. An area that has plagued a Vikings offense already loaded with talent.

With roster names such as Adrian Peterson, Bernard Berrian, Steve Hutchinson, and Percy Harvin, there is no reason to think the Vikings offense can't be explosive. So what's the biggest issue stopping the Minnesota Vikings from making a serious Super Bowl run?

The answer is simple: Consistency from the quarterback. It has long been the road block for the Vikings and any hopes of winning a franchise first Super Bowl title. Four trips to the big game in the 70's and yet the purple have nothing to show for it.

Since the departure of now Detroit Lion QB and division rival Daunte Culpepper, the Vikings have lacked leadership, poise, and of course consistency.

The likes of Brad Johnson, Gus Frerotte, and Tavaris Jackson have all graced a purple and gold jersey through the years. The only remaining on the team is fourth year QB Jackson who has had a mediocre first three years as a Viking.

Jackson has shown at times brilliance in the passing game including his final four games in the 2008 season as he finished with nine TDs to two INTs.

However that won't do in a rough and tough division such as the NFC North that features the Vikings' rivals the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Bears, and the Detroit Lions.

The Minnesota Vikings surprised many NFL experts when they won the NFC North title and reached the playoffs, only to be ousted at home against the Philadelphia Eagles. In that game, Jackson was rushed and forced to make mistakes and be too early or too late on his untimely throws to receivers.

The Eagles defense led by Defensive Coordinator, the great Jim Johnson, proved to be too much for young Jackson in his first playoff game. Their relentless blitzing and confusing defensive packages caused havoc for Jackson that included a pass that ended up in the hands of Eagle Cornerback Asante Samuel for a touchdown.

This offseason, the Minnesota Vikings' staff made attempts at solving the QB dilemma with a short stint of pursuing Jay Cutler, then after that fell short, rumors popped up that Brett Favre was interested in playing with the Vikings.

The Vikings did, however, make a trade with the Houston Texans day one of the free agency dealing a 2009 Fourth Round Draft Pick for Sage Rosenfels. A move that had many Viking fans questioning the mind set of the Vikings coaches.

After a continuous summer long saga with future Hall of Fame QB Brett Favre and another "No", the Vikings are supposedly satisfied with the QB's they have on the roster.

The roster of Sage Rosenfels, Tavaris Jackson, and second year QB John David Booty from USC.

The Minnesota Vikings enter their final week of training camp hoping to get a brighter picture on a already shaky QB competition. Rosenfels has been progressing with the Vikings playbook and has really made some chemistry with Vikings' deep threat WR Bernard Berrian, throwing nice deep passes to him.

Jackson on the other hand, has had an up and down camp session spraining an MCL in his leg in the first full week of camp, only to re-aggravate it during a seven on seven Friday night drill. Although he says his knee is "fine", the Vikings have cause for concern after a similar injury limited Jackson in last years preseason games.

As for Booty, the third QB and youngest of the three, well he is progressing as quick as a second year guy can in the NFL. The Vikings Offensive Coordinator Darrel Bevell also likes the way Booty has progressed, and with Jackson sitting out three days at camp, Booty got more throwing reps with the Vikings offense, a rarity for a third string QB, and a golden opportunity to get better.

So with all three QBs getting as many reps as possible, the Vikings are headed in the right direction, but where does it lead?

The Minnesota Vikings have to face the facts, they need a leader and consistency game after game from their quarterback. Something they haven't seen for years, except for a few Tavaris Jackson positives in 2008.

No matter who wins the Vikings quarterback competition, Jackson or Rosenfels must step up to the plate and lead the explosive offense lead by the NFL's best running back in Adrian Peterson and one of the best offensive lines in the league.

As good as Peterson is, the biggest leadership must come from the QB position. Especially in this case for a team that many consider Super Bowl ready now, with the only thing stopping them is of course the quarterback position.

Can Sage or Jackson lead a talented Vikings team deep into the playoffs?

Only time will tell, as the Minnesota Vikings preseason gets set to kick off. The biggest factor will come in those four preseason games, where the real work will be made for the two competitors.

They will have to prove themselves the better competitor from their opponent, and whether or not they can lead their team. The Vikings' season depends on a successful passer if they want to reach their goal of a Super Bowl title.

When this QB competition comes to an end, you can still expect many to oppose the QB, whom ever it may be. But in the end, the Vikings' season and their playoff fate will ultimately rest upon the shoulders of the Viking starter.

If this competition proves un-successful, the Vikings may lose even more precious time towards a Super Bowl run.

Time is ticking, and it's not on the Vikings side.

Brett Favre Saga: Time To Move on Minnesota Vikings

There is no doubt when Brett Favre announced that he would stay retired instead of signing with the Minnesota Vikings, his former teams' biggest archrival, Minnesota Viking fans' hearts were crushed.

I, too, will admit that Favre's decision on Tuesday, as displeasing as it was, not only shocked me but also made the dreams I had of No. 4 donning a purple jersey and leading the Vikes all but disappear.

In the end, Favre chose what he felt was best for him, even if it did take almost the entire summer to make that decision—not to mention the amount of time the Vikings wasted trying to win Favre's heart.

The Vikings wanted to snag the future Hall of Famer so bad, they soon had their All-Stars trying to, allegedly, "coax" him into a Vikings jersey.

Meanwhile, newly acquired Sage Rosenfels is in the corner screaming "Great, this crap again—stuck as the backup! Whoopty flippin' doo!"

Tarvaris Jackson, as positive as he tries to be, is trying to remain calm, even though, inside his head, he's thinking: "I swear if they sign him, I'm gonna demand a trade! I will! I'll do it!" I'm a good QB!"

Of course you are, Jackson! And head coach Brad Childress is really Batman, the Dark Knight, and the caped crusader of Gotham!

The Vikings have had a problem at the quarterback position. And, rightfully so, they decided to take a shot at snagging a future Hall of Famer. There's nothing wrong with that.

What is wrong, though, is that the Vikings' head coach Brad Childress allowed Favre to set his own schedule. In a more easier way of understanding it, he walked all over the Vikings!

Looking back at this mess, Childress should have had the nerve to order a deadline and an answer several weeks ago in contrast to letting 39-year-old Favre wait just two days before training camp opens to reject the Vikings' offer.

So, where do we sit now, a day after Favre rejected the Minnesota Vikings offer to play a 19th season?

We are now at the stage of moving on. The Vikings need to move on and get past this circus story.

For the Vikings, it's damage-control time. The Vikings' quarterbacks have been pushed aside for a 39-year-old that never even joined. Does this show a lack of trust in Jackson and Rosenfels?

Absolutely not. They just had a golden opportunity that they tried to go after and failed miserably.

To the other point, there really is no reason to go to both your quarterbacks and apologise. This is the NFL, a business where, if you want to succeed, you sometimes have to risk big to win big. They are professional athletes, they will get over it.

They will be happy to return to the way things were before the "Favre-a-Palooza," as Vikings' tight end Visanthe Shiancoe liked to call it, arose. Simply, they will be happy to be pitted against each other in a fair quarterback competition that will take place at the Vikings' training camp.

The Minnesota Vikings need to focus on training camp, which opens on Friday in Mankato, and the players that actually are on the roster! They will also have to be content with their quarterbacks in the meantime.

And, no, there will be no talk of Micheal Vick possibly joining the Vikings' squad. Please don't give media guys, like us, the opportunity to write senseless crap on what impact Vick would have on the Vikings' offense or why he could make a good fit.

It's not going to happen. Brad Childress has said it many times already; they are "more than content" with the QBs on their roster.

As a Vikings fan, I will be very intrigued to see Rosenfels compete for the starting job with Jackson at training camp these next two weeks.

Once it's all said and done, Minnesota will have its starter.

As for T-Jack, unless he uses this competition and the negative criticism throughout his three-year career to motivate him, I see Rosenfels emerging as the Minnesota Vikings' go-to guy at QB.

No matter who is the starter, they are surrounded by talent. Adrian Peterson is the NFL's best running back and can take the pressure off the QB.

And speaking of loads, the addition of behemoth second-round draft pick Phil Loadholt at right tackle could provide a solid player and give the Vikings the oppertunity to run both left and right.

Loadholt will, however, have to learn the system quick and adapt to the NFL's quicker pace if he is to succeed at right tackle. Also, learning to block stout NFL nose tackles will be crucial.

Loadholt will be another addtion to an already top-notch NFL offensive line considered one of the best in the league. Players like Steve Hutchinson, Bryant McKinnie, and Anthony Herrera give reason to believe that claim.

The Vikings can have a stellar pass attack with recievers like Bernard Berrian and Bobby Wade. The Vikings will be able to throw down the field with deep threat Berrian and in the middle with Wade and tight end Shiancoe, who is emerging into a decent reciever in the Vikings' offense.

Another piece the Vikings have added to their explosive offense is the dynamic playmaker Percy Harvin out of Florida University. With his speed, agility, elusiveness, don't be surprised to see Harvin line up as a WR or with AP in the backfield.

The only thing Harvin will have to overcome is his off-the-field character issues. If he does this, he can develop into an instant star on the Vikings' roster.

So, as the Favre Saga washes itself away, the Vikings should be optimistic about their team. They have talent all over that roster, and there is no reason they can't succeed. They have a NFC North title to defend and should be able to make a stand even in a tough NFC North Division.

As for Favre, who knows what's in store for him. He mentioned something about "Call me in November." Something tells me that we haven't heard the last from him. Just hope it's not with the Vikings.

Could a Tavaris Jackson Trade Be a Wrong Move?

Okay, I know what you must be thinking. "This guy's out of his mind!" I'm not, at least I like to think I'm not. So before you make any other quick judgements, let me defend myself.

The Minnesota Vikings have been trying for three years now to work on the Tavaris Jackson experiment, however it hasn't gone well.

Jackson has made slow but progressive improvement in his three years in the NFL, but not enough to prove he is ready to take over and lead the Vikings for years to come.

Even the head coach, Brad Childress, the man who was behind the 2006 draft pick on Jackson, has been forced to take new steps in the other direction.

Enter Sage Rosenfels, former backup quarterback to Matt Shaub of the Houston Texans, who was acquired through a trade that sent several Vikings' draft picks to the Texans.

He was guaranteed a shot at the starting job, after many years of playing backup on many NFL teams. Of course he wouldn't be given the starting job on a platter. He would have to earn it in Training Camp.

Here he would compete for the starting position against none other then young Tavaris Jackson. Although Rosenfels was ordained the number one on the roster as predicted by KFAN radio station and many other hundreds of Vikings fans around the state, the QB palooza didn't stop their.

Soon after his release from the New York Jets, Brett Favre instantly became the poster child for ESPN's daily NFL reports and the Minnesota Vikings possible new candiate for their already messed up QB problem.

The three time NFL MVP and future Hall of Fame quarterback has not officially signed with the Minnesota Vikings yet. But there is no doubt, an immediate press conference introducing him as the newest Viking is surely on it's way.

What does this do to the Vikings roster?

It gives them four quarterbacks on their roster entering training camp, yet this is expected to change before their first regular season game against the Cleveland Browns.

So with four quarterbacks on the roster, the Vikings will find themselves in a sticky situation. Who becomes the odd man out in Minnesota?

The Minnesota Vikings will instantly crown Favre the starter, and rightfully so with his credentials as a football player. Rosenfels will be pushed out of the way, at least for a year.

Well the obvious choice has got to be Tavaris Jackson, right?

Maybe. However the cards may be stacked against Jackson. As the Vikings are highly un-likely to cut John David Booty, their 2008-fifth round draft pick anytime soon as he has not been given the chance to prove what he's made of as of yet.

The only thing Booty will have to worry about this season will be finding a new number to wear, as Favre will want to continue to wear his signature No. 4, even in purple and gold.

So now the Minnesota Vikings must decide what their going to do with Jackson. He is a very young QB, who has room to grow but makes crucial mistakes when it matters.

There is no doubt that his productivity has increased in his three year career, finishing off 08' with above average numbers.

2008 Stats for Tavaris Jackson:

*1,056 passing yards

*9 TDs-2 INTs

*88 of 149 on passes with a completion rating of 59.1 percent (up 0.9 percent from 2007)

*A 95.4 percent passer rating

*Five Fumbles- three lost

Although these stats are decent and indicate improvement, the Vikings are on limited time with many of their players getting near the end of their careers.

The Vikings also need a QB who can give them the best shot at a Super Bowl. It would be their first ever Super Bowl in franchise history, that has been plagued with four loosing Super Bowl appearances.

As of right now, Brett Favre would be the best man for the job, whether he can get them there this year will be for later discussion.

The Vikings will have to either cut Tavaris Jackson, trade him to another NFL team in need of a quarterback or backup for that matter, or send him down to the Minnesota Vikings' practice squad.

The two options that make sense though, would be either trading him to another NFL team in exchange for Draft picks or send him down to the team practice squad.

As much as I would like to see Jackson run out of town, a trade could be a costly move, seeing as after 2009, the likely hood of Favre playing a 20th season in the NFL is slim.

Thus, the Vikings would have to go back to drawing board at quarterback.

Keeping Jackson though, would give the team a decent option to throw out into a competition once again with Sage Rosenfels for the Vikings' starting QB position.

This will create a good competition at Training Camp in 2010, and also help both quarterbacks become more developed as NFL quarterbacks.

The biggest gain from keeping Jackson on the practice squad, and calling him up in 2010 will be the competition itself making Jackson a better player overall.

So as the future of young Tavaris Jackson is still up in the air and training camp approaching, the fact that Jackson is on his last year of his contract means the Vikings must take a moment and look at all the best options available.

One move could be too costly for a team in desperate need of a franchise quarterback.

In Tavris Jackson's case, demanding a trade from the Vikings if Brett Favre signs, could prove to be the biggest mistake of his short NFL career.

A career that began with the Minnesota Vikings, and the place he called home.

Minnesota Vikings' Playbook Being Customized To become Brett Favre Friendly

With the Brett Favre saga possibly nearing an end, as well as Favre's second retirement, the Minnesota Vikings' next big step will be to look at how Favre can impact their offensive playbook.

On Wednesday, The Pioneer Press reported on it's website, www.twincities.com, that the Vikings were customizing their playbook for Favre. The official report was the Vikings were customizing (40 percent) of their offensive playbook to accommodate Favre.

This comes the same day that sports writer Sid Hartman of the Minneapolis Star Tribune, acknowledged an unknown source, exclaiming that Vikings' trainer Eric Sugarman had been sent down to Hattiesburgh, Mississippi to visit Favre.

Sugarman's second trip in four weeks was meant to see the physical status of Favre's surgically repaired throwing arm, in which Hartman had called a "complete success".

The Vikings, of course, have lacked a consistent passer to lead their offense and instead have dealt with shaky quarterback play in recent years from Tavaris Jackson and Gus Frerotte.

Now the Vikings are on the verge of landing one of the best there's to be had in the National Football League.

Favre, who is a future Hall of Famer and also a three-time league MVP, knows what it takes to win. He is known for his gun-sling throws, his craftiness when it comes to avoiding defenders, and his late game heroics.

Once Favre-to-Minnesota is a done deal, which many NFL experts expect in the next couple of weeks, the Vikings can start focusing on training camp, which starts July 31, in Mankato, Minn.

Brett Favre will be given one of the best offenses he has ever worked with in his 18-year career in the NFL. Favre teams up with arguably the NFL's best running back in Adrian Peterson, who is an explosive runner with the ability to score on any play. Peterson is possibly the best playmaker Favre will ever see.

His wide receivers aren't bad either, with deep threat Bernard Berrian, who in his first season as a Viking wowed the Viking faithful with many spectacular catches, including Monday night game against his former team, the Chicago Bears, where he scorched them for a 99-yard touchdown catch.

Many expect Berrian to gain a lot more productivity this year with Favre throwing the passes. This possibly being his best chance at a Pro Bowl selection starter.

Also joining the team is explosive rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin, who will add a new element to the Vikings' passing game and give Favre another great option to throw to. Harvin also brings with him a wide variety of "Wildcat" options that Brad Childress certainly will look at in his game plan for 2009.

Also providing help for Favre will be one of the best offensive lines in the NFL today, behind the offensive leadership of Vikings' left guard Steve Hutchinson, who has become the staple at the offensive line.

Along that line will be left tackle Bryant McKinnie, rookie right tackle Phil Loadholt, center John Sullivan who replaces 11-year Viking Matt Birk, and right guard Anthony Herrera.

Favre's tight ends will also be involved in the playbook with young rising star Visanthe Shiancoe who has become a legitimate scoring threat near the red-zone. Blocking for Peterson, will be one of the league's best blocking tight ends Jim Kleinsasser, who has proven his worth on the Vikings' roster.

So what does this overall to the Vikings' offensive play calling?

Considering the Vikings are already customizing a good amount of their playbook for Favre, just shows they want to create an even more versatile, expanded offense.

The Vikings will still focus on the run with 2008 rushing leader, Peterson, who is still the focal point of the Minnesota offense. Bringing a quarterback of Favre's status into the Vikings' system will, however, open up the field more for Peterson to run.

Instead on eight and nine man stacked boxes, Peterson will see less pressure at the line as they will also have to worry what No. 4 is doing with the ball.

This also opens up a passing game that has been dismal in recent years, compared to other NFL teams. Expect the Vikings to give Favre more throwing opportunities down field and passes in the middle to slot and possession receivers such as Bobby Wade and Sidney Rice.

For a Vikings' passing offense that has lacked strong consistency, they will gain major ground against their NFC North counter parts as they try and defend their NFC North division title.

2009 may also become the Vikings' best shot for a serious run at the team's first Super Bowl title in franchise history.

Minnesota Vikings Sign Linebacker Jasper Brinkley

The Minnesota Vikings have signed their second draft pick on Tuesday, according to their team Web site and local Minneapolis newspaper, The Star Tribune.

Jasper Brinkley, the South Carolina linebacker, and the Vikings' fifth round draft pick in this year's draft has signed a four-year contract with the team.

Brinkley becomes the second Vikings' draft pick to be signed, behind free saftey Jamarca Sanford who was the first to be signed last week.

The other Minnesota draft picks yet to be signed include:

WR—Percy Harvin—University of Florida

OL—Phil Loadholt—University of Oklahoma

CB—Asher Allen—Univeristy of Georgia

Jasper Brinkley looks to be the replacement behind talented middle linebacker E.J. Henderson, who is coming off a horrible year in 2008.

Henderson suffered a fractured toe that needed surgery, and caused him to miss the rest of the season for the Minnesota Vikings.

Brinkley was a linebacker in the SEC, who recorded 193 tackles, 20.5 tackles for a Loss, 7.5 sacks and three interceptions in 30 games at South Carolina (29 starts).

Brinkley was also awarded All-SEC second-team honors this last year after missing most of the 2007 season when he tore his lateral collateral ligament in his right knee.

The Vikings now have two of their five draft picks signed. However, they must sign their last three draft picks before Training Camp starts on July 31 in Mankato, Minn.

Jared Allen Will Bring Even More to This Year's Vikings Defense

They say defense win championships, and for the most part that is true. Look back at the past Super Bowl champions and you will see championship teams with at least a decent defense if not a legendary defense winning the Lombardi trophy.

The Vikings have that style of defense from past to present. Known back in the '70s as the "Purple People Eaters" for their rough and rugged play style.

It was considered one of the best defenses in the NFL during the '70s and of all time and for good reason too. This defense helped lead the Minnesota Vikings to the team's four Super Bowls appearances. However, the Vikings were never able to bring home a Super Bowl to it's fans.

A look back at the Minnesota Vikings' Four Super Bowl appearances:

Super Bowl IV-January 11, 1970: Kansas City Chiefs-23 Minnesota Vikings-7

Super Bowl VIII- January 13, 1974: Miami Dolphins-24 Minnesota Vikings-7

Super Bowl IX- January 12, 1975: Pittsburgh Steelers-16 Minnesota Vikings-6

Super Bowl XI- January 9, 1977: Oakland Raiders-32 Minnesota Vikings-14

So now what does this have to do with Jared Allen?

Two years ago, the Minnesota Vikings traded several draft picks to the Kansas City Chiefs for defensive end Jared Allen. Thus hoping his outstanding success in Kansas City would follow him to Minnesota.

The Minnesota Vikings couldn't have been any happier with Allen's performance through out the 08' season. Allen's play paid enormous dividends to a Minnesota defense that is becoming wildly known around the NFL as one of the top defenses in the league.

Jared Allen's 2008 stats

54 tackles-41 solo

14.5 Sacks

3 Forced Fumbles

2 Safeties

Jared Allen has become one of the best defensive ends in the NFL, making the Pro Bowl last year with the Minnesota Vikings. He is also becoming one of the key players on an already deadly Vikings defensive roster.

Jared Allen has given the Minnesota Vikings a star pass rusher, and some one who can create turnovers.

A new "Purple People Eaters" defense? Not quite yet.

However, Vikings fans can expect more fantastic plays from No. 69 this year. Expect to see even more of Jared Allen on the field, and more numbers piling up in the sack category.

To imagine the numbers Allen could have had in 2008, had he not gotten a separated shoulder mid-way through the season. That injury didn't stop the powerful defensive end however, playing a huge chunk of the game at home against NFC North division rival the Green Bay Packers.

In that game against the Packers, the Vikings' defensive end wrangled up 2 solo tackles, 1 Sack, and 1 Safety.

Jared Allen also helped the Minnesota Vikings claim their first NFC North title since 2001.

So what is next for Jared Allen?

Even more ferocity, and awesome plays on the field.

Jared Allen will be even more deadly, after one full year with the Minnesota Vikings and their defensive playbook. Minnesota Vikings will be able to afford to pass rush more with Allen on one end of the line.

Also helping him stop the run will be two of the league's best defensive tackles and best run stoppers-Kevin and Pat Williams or the "Williams Wall" as fans like to call them. These two have become an unstoppable force that has given the Minnesota Vikings the title of Best Run Defense.

Also helping the talented Jared Allen on the other side of the line will be defensive end Ray Edwards who is projected to win the starter spot over Jayme Mitchell.

Also, giving the Vikings defense more power will be their young but talented line-backer corp. Leading the way will be middle line-backer E.J. Henderson who will be greeted with high optimism after he suffered a fractured toe that caused him the rest of the season.

Helping out with be the strong and speedy Chad Greenway and Ben Leber who are have become a solid middle area in the Vikings defense.

Overall, Jared Allen's numbers can only get better, barring he doesn't suffer any injuries during the season.

The Minnesota Vikings made a trade that has paid off right away, and is also giving offensive coordinators something else to think about and plan for come game time.

Jared Allen makes this Vikings defense one of the toughest in the NFC, let alone the NFL. Whether or not that this defense can lead the Vikings to a fifth and first Super Bowl win in franchise history is another question in itself.

In an NFC North division that is considered the "Black and Blue" division, nothing helps compete more then a strong, versatile defense capable of forcing turnovers.

Like looked at before, Jared Allen comes off his first season as a Viking, and by the looks of it, his play style won't be letting up any time soon.

Which just furthers the argument that this year will be an even more productive year for Jared Allen and the Minnesota Vikings defense.

Thus giving the Minnesota Vikings one of the best defenses in the NFL and another superior defense to put in Vikings history.

Jared Allen will be even more explosive and ferocious in 2009, giving him another shot at the NFC Defensive Player of the Year award and his team a better shot at defending their NFC North crown.

Allen and the Vikings biggest accomplishment however, will be to bring home a Super Bowl trophy to Minnesota.

Adrian Peterson Would Welcome Brett Favre to the Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings, who have been in dire need of a quarterback for the past four years, are currently involved in the ongoing Favre saga.

In a league where the quarterback is the most important position, it also has been the crippling point for a Vikings team already loaded with the talent and ability to make a run at its first Super Bowl in franchise history.

After his release from the New York Jets in April, retired Brett Favre has recently been reported to have a contractual agreement with the Vikings.

He admitted on HBO's Joe Buck Live in early June that he had received surgery from well-known orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews in mid-May to repair a partially torn bicep tendon.

Although Vikings head coach Brad Childress and other front office officials have been mum on the Favre subject, one Pro Bowl running back isn't keeping quiet.

Last year's rushing leader, Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, has admitted he would welcome Brett Favre to the Minnesota Vikings.

When talking about Favre, Peterson told the Associated Press, "You're talking about a Hall of Fame quarterback, a guy I grew up watching. I love just the passion he played with." He also told the press, "If he is a part of our team when the season comes around, when training camp comes around, we're going to welcome him with open arms and see where the chips fall."

Regarding the quarterback situation, the Vikings were supposed to enter training camp with newly-acquired Sage Rosenfels, who was traded from the Houston Texans for draft picks. Rosenfels was expected to compete with three-year pro Tavaris Jackson at training camp for the starting QB position.

However, that may change very soon if the Vikings do sign Favre and make him the starter for the 2009-10 season.

Adrian Peterson has said he'll tell coach Brad Childress and top Vikings officials what he thinks, but admits he doesn't want to get tangled up in deciding whether to pursue Brett Favre or stick with their current quarterbacks.

The Vikings are hoping that the QB competition will create a better Rosenfels or Jackson in the end.

In the end, Peterson said, "I know our coach is going to do the right job, and at the end of the day, his job is having the best team possible to win games. That’s his job, so I’m going to let him handle his job and I’m going to do my job.”

So, whether or not the Minnesota Vikings will eventually sign Brett Favre or stick with their two competing QBs is unknown at this time. But now everyone knows who Adrian Peterson is hoping to be his QB.

In the end, for a Vikings offense in much need of a solid quarterback, whomever they choose may just be the deciding factor in their shot at defending their NFC North title this year.

The Minnesota Vikings and Brett Favre: What Can We Expect?

No, the Brett Favre saga has not ended, at least not yet.

But in recent weeks there has been plenty of speculation regarding Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. Many sites, including ProFootballTalk.com, have been reporting that both sides already have a deal organized and are just waiting for the right time to make the announcement.

How organized is anyone's guess, but there is no doubt in my mind—Favre will be playing for the Minnesota Vikings this year.

For a team that has had quarterback issues ever since they dealt Daunte Culpepper away, the Vikings are taking a big risk with Favre.

Yes, we all know about his three league MVP's and all the records and career starts, but let's face the facts—Favre is getting old. He turns 40 in October, and it makes you wonder how well his body can stay together.

It wasn't able to hold up last year in his 18th season, where he parted ways with the Green Bay Packers in ugly fashion to be traded to the New York Jets.

There, he played phenomenal at the beginning of the season, getting the Jets to a record of 8-3, only to have his arm give out on him. The Jets, behind his bum arm, lost four of their last five games and, more importantly, a shot at the playoffs.

Now, the Vikings are on the cusp of getting the hall of fame quarterback (barring any health problems arise with his throwing arm) to lead their team in '09, but at an old age, you have to wonder what's left in the "Brett Favre Tank."

The Vikings already know what Favre has as a veteran quarterback, and it's something they feel they need on their team—for one year.

The Vikings get Favre, a legendary quarterback in the NFL that has a gun slinging arm and is able to throw deep passes. He has the ability to read defenses and always find the open man, whether that man happens to be on his own team or not.

The biggest issue for Favre, though, has been his gun slinging throws that manage to fall into the wrong hands. Favre holds the record for most career TDs—unfortunately, he also owns the record for the most interceptions.

That is one thing Vikings fans dread—his knack to be a bit wild with the ball at times.

Favre also brings leadership and character to the Vikings locker room, not that they need more of that with some of the players they have already.

The biggest thing with taking Favre now is you are risking a lot bringing him in. He may already know the system "pretty well," seeing as how it was a similar system in Green Bay, but Favre is not what he used to be.

Vikings head coach Brad Childress also takes a big risk after several years of faith and devotion to young Tavaris Jackson, who he and the front office picked in the 2006 draft to be their franchise quarterback.

For Childress, this may be the last chance to try and do something amazing with an already talent-filled roster.

Vikings fans have been wanting Childress fired since he took over for Mike Tice, and if the Favre/Childress era fails, Childress could find himself out the door in Minnesota.

The Minnesota Vikings have been considered one of the teams in shape for a Super Bowl run, however, the Vikings QB issue has been the hurdle. Whether Favre can get them over that hurdle is a question that we won't know until the NFL regular season starts.

But the Minnesota Vikings, who will try and defend their NFC North title this year, are looking for more than just one and done in the playoffs. If Favre can get them past that, then he may be crowned the savior of the purple.

So, to a Minnesota Vikings team, you're taking a big risk, let's hope you see a reward!

Minnesota Vikings and Percy Harvin: A Wildcat Package

The NFL has been called a "copy-cat" league, due to the fact that if one team tries something new and succeeds, another team is sure to follow.

This description couldn't have described the 2008 NFL season any clearer. 2008 became known as the year of the Wildcat—the Wildcat offense, that is, a tricky offensive package made for confusing the defense and giving the offense an advantage.

It basically sets up mismatches in favor of the offense, giving them a better chance at scoring and defensive coordinators and players alike a major headache.

In this offensive package, anything can happen, whether it's the running back taking the direct snap and running with it or passing it. The quarterback may line up as a wide receiver, or a wide receiver may line up as a running back or quarterback.

It simply creates a lot of confusion for the defense when trying to stop a offense.

No team did it better than the Miami Dolphins.

A team that finished 1-15 in 2007 and started '08 with two straight losses, new head coach Tony Sparano was in need of something new, and quick, if his team was to survive in the tough AFC East.

"We've got to think of something", were the words of Miami Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano after an 0-2 start and their next game against division opponent the New England Patriots.

So, Sparano and his quarterbacks coach, David Lee, came up with a new idea.

Lee, who was at one time the offensive coordinator for the University of Arkansas, was taught a new but odd offensive scheme known at Arkansas as "The Wild Hog".

Sparano, Lee, and the Miami Dolphins decided to use this offense on the road, against the heavily favorited New England at Foxboro Stadium.

The result was a stunning 38-13 blow out in favor of the Miami Dolphins, as Bill Belichick and his staff had no clue on how to stop this style of football.

As for the Miami Dolphins, they won 10 of their next 13 games and finished winning the AFC East division.

From that game, NFL teams were hookedm as no one had ever seen a offensive formation like that. Soon, many teams were off to try and produce the same success as the Dolphins.

Teams who tried some Wildcat play styles included the Buffalo Bills, the Kansas City Chiefs, the St. Louis Rams, the Cleavland Browns, the Chicago Bears, the Carolina Panthers, the New York Giants, and even the New England Patriots tried it against their biggest rival, the Indianapolis Colts.

So, what is to be expected for 2009?

Same thing, but even more use of the crazy formation.

The Minnesota Vikings may even try and put some Wildcat formations into their playbook. In the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, the Vikings took University of Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin, ignoring off-the-field character issues and injury concerns, as well as failing a drug test at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Harvin is a dynamic and explosive player who has the ability to score on any play and the Vikings' perfect fit to run a Wildcat offense of their own. Harvin was able to score both as a receiver and as a running back at Florida.

In his three-year career at Florida, Percy Harvin amassed 1,929 receiving yards and 1,852 rushing yards, not to mention the explosive dual-threat receiver found the end-zone 32 times.

The Minnesota Vikings' head coach Brad Childress has already planned who he will use his newest offensive toy, admitting the different things you can do with a player like Harvin.

The Vikings, more than likely, will find a way to line up Percy Harvin next to the best running back in the NFL, Adrian Peterson, to try and confuse the defense.

Also, expect Harvin to line up across from Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bernard Berrian to give the Vikings a more explosive deep threat and deadly passing game. Chances will be good that Percy Harvin or Berrian will get loose and open up the passing game for the Vikings quarterback, who ever it may be.

This will also ease the work off Peterson, who is used to seeing defenses stack the box with eight men at times to try and slow him down.

Key word: TRY

Defenses will now have to worry about Berrian and Harvin stretching the field, causing them to put less in the box and giving Adrian Peterson better chances of bursting through the hole and finding open field, as well as the end-zone.

There is no doubt that Percy Harvin can be a great wide receiver in the NFL, but he brings so many new treats to a Vikings offense that was 12th in the league in scoring in 2008.

As much as the Vikings have improved, they would like to see that number get higher in 2009.

They may have found the right guy for the job with a talented Percy Harvin, who is explosive on the field and able to score at anytime in the game. The Minnesota Vikings have never used the Wildcat offense in it's rich franchise history, something they are excited to see change.

Expect Percy Harvin to be used as a wide reciever, a quarterback, a running back and a decoy with the odd Wildcat formations. This will help the offense confuse defensive coordinators and their players trying to read the offense on the field.

However, unlike the Miami Dolphins who have created a new era in football, the Minnesota Vikings wont make the Wildcat its key offensive game, but rather on the run game behind the legs of star running back Adrian Peterson.

The passing game will be used a bit more to mix up the defense and ease the work load for Peterson.

With the help of deep-threat receiver Bernard Berrian and great slot receivers Sidney Rice and Bobby Wade opening the middle of the field, the Vikings should have better success moving the chains.

The biggest upside of adding Wildcat packages to an already powerful offensive playbook will be the fact that Childress wont have to use them if he doesn't want to.

The real work will be made for the opposing team and its defensive coaches, who will have to take extra time during the week to figure out ways to defend the Wildcat as well as your basic run and pass plays.

Simply creating more work during the week for the opposing team can really pay off come game time.

Whether the Vikings use the Wildcat offense in their playbook or how they will use it this season remains to be seen. Now that they have one of the most talented players to run it, there is no doubt that they will definitely give it a look.

So how much Wildcat will we see? Will the Vikings be successful? Let Me know what ya think!

Minnesota Vikings: The Brett Favre Waiting Game Begins

The will he/won't he questions won't be stopping anytime soon. Not after his latest appearance on HBO's Joe Buck Live on Monday Night.

Sorry Minnesota Vikings fans, but Brett Favre won't be joining the team—at least for now. Not until Favre knows for sure that the surgery he had 2 1/2 weeks ago on his throwing arm to repair a torn muscle tendon was successful.

Brett Favre appeared on HBO to answer some questions from well-known baseball and football commentator Joe Buck on his debut of his show. Asking the most popular question regarding Favre.

Was he coming out of a second retirement to play for the Minnesota Vikings? Brett had this to say:

"Um ... Maybe."

He admitted to Joe he had "limited" contact with Vikings head coach Brad Childress, but that they were speaking and Childress had never set a deadline for Favre.

Many NFL fans were finally relieved to get some answers from Brett, however it means nothing until that arm is fully recovered. The surgery Brett had on his throwing arm will tell the story in the end, and whether or not he comes out of retirement once again.

Only this time to play for the Minnesota Vikings, a team that has a very similar offensive playbook as his former team, the Green Bay Packers.

Brett told Buck on his show that it was the perfect fit for him, mainly because of the similar offense he played with for 16 years in Green Bay.

He also said playing for the Vikings in 2009 "makes a lot of sense, because the pieces are in place."

Favre was told by Dr. James Andrews that the healing process will take four to five weeks before he knows if he can play or not.

The Vikings seem to be willing to wait, sending one of the team trainers down to Hattiesburgh, Miss., to give Favre advice on rehab and good ways to exercise the arm.

Thus speeding up the process in a safe, and smart way.

Also, the team hasn't felt in any bit the need for an answer now to if Favre will play or not or to evaluate the throwing arm in it's current state.

So for now, all we can do is sit back and be patient. The waiting game begins, and the only thing getting in the way of a Minnesota Vikings/Brett Favre union is the status of his throwing arm.

If all things go well, come mid-July, if the throwing arm surgery is a success, expect Brett Favre to be a Viking.

Minnesota Vikings' Hurdle to the Playoffs: The Schedule

A champion is defined by the way he wins and the road he took to get there. For almost every championship team, the regular season is the best tool to shape them into the champion they will soon become.

It provides defining moments and heart breaks. Whether it's good times or bad, the regular season will always shape a team towards it's destiny or it's failure.

This is the case for the 2009-2010 Minnesota Vikings, a young, speedy, talented squad ready to prove it has the team of a champion.

It's been said many times by NFL fans and analysts alike that the Vikings' Achille's heel is its poor quarterback position. So far and for many years past, this has been the case.

With poor play from the position, the Minnesota Vikings have never been able to jump the hurdle and win a Super Bowl. In it's proud history, the Purple has never won "the big one," appearing in four, only to be sent home empty handed.

However, many use the excuse of poor QB play to cover up for the other factor that comes into play every year once regular season starts.

The regular season is the biggest hurdle in a team's road to the Super Bowl. If a team plays dreadfully during the regular season, then they are obviously not heading to the playoffs.

The Minnesota Vikings would love to win their first Super Bowl in franchise history, but in order to do that they must survive one of NFL's most toughest divisions, the NFC North, and survive its regular season.

In a tough, "Black and Blue" division like the NFC North; that's easier said then done.

The Vikings' divisional opponents have been strengthening their teams; the biggest increase was with the Chicago Bears' blockbuster trade for former Denver Bronco quarterback Jay Cutler, seeking its first franchise QB since the days of Jim McMahon.

The Minnesota Vikings open the regular season on the road for two games, facing a Cleavland Browns team under the new direction of head coach Eric Mangini and then face one of three division opponents, the Detroit Lions. The Lions are struggling to rebuild and trying to shed themselves from the last years historic 0-16 season.

However, it's not these games other then the fact that they are road games that raises concern.

It had matchups against last year's Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers, and a surprising 2008 Baltimore Ravens' squad. These two games pit the Vikings up against two of the NFL's and the AFC North's toughest defenses.

Both teams were capable of causing havoc for opposing quarterbacks and forcing turnovers. They're littered with talent from names like Troy Polamalu, Ed Reed, and Ray Lewis to James Farrior and Terrel Suggs.

The Vikings will also have to play a offensive threat in the Carolina Panthers in Carolina as well as the Cincinnati Bengals, while trying to cover star Wide Receivers Steve Smith of the Panthers and Chad Johnson, a.k.a. Ocho Cinco of the Bengals.

The biggest test of all will come from annual meetings with division rivals the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Bears. They're already expected to battle Chicago for the NFC North title.

If this is the case, the Vikings' season and playoff hopes may rest on a Dec. 28 Monday night matchup against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field, a battle for more than an NFC North title; it's a shot at a Super Bowl title.

If the Minnesota Vikings' 2009-2010 season is to be a successful one, it will start with their schedule, ranked as one of the easier schedules in the NFL.

Matchups against the AFC North and the NFC West will prove more important then ever. And any chance at playoffs will first and for most start with success against NFC North rivals home and away.

Brett Favre Family Booking Rooms for Vikings-Packers Game

ESPN, the king of the sports world, is talking Brett Favre once again, only this time it involves Favre's family.

This after several days of reports that Favre had indeed had surgery on his throwing arm to repair a torn tendon that caused him problems at the end of the 2008 season with the New York Jets.

ESPN also reported Tuesday that Brad Childress and the Vikings had given Favre a deadline of the end of the week to decide if he wanted to play for Minnesota in 2009.

Now ESPN reported on Wednesday that the family of the future Hall of Fame quarterback had begun to reserve hotel rooms near Green Bay, Wisc., according to a local newspaper, The Green Bay Press-Gazette.

This in preparation for the Nov. 1 meeting at Lambeau Field, when the Green Bay Packers will host their NFC North Division rival the Minnesota Vikings.

However, if everything goes according to all the speculation revolving Favre, he will enter Lambeau Field in different colors: purple and gold.

Colors of the enemy, from the eyes of the Green Bay Packer faithful.

Colors of the Minnesota Vikings, none the less.

The Press-Gazette reported that about two months ago that a person described as "a member of Favre's inner circle" secured 25 to 30 rooms at the Midway Motor Lodge.

The manager of the hotel, Doug Warpinski, said the member of Favre's inner circle "called and said if he goes to Minnesota, they defiantly want to be at the game."

Whether this is true or not, it may indicate if Favre will come out of a second retirement to play for the Minnesota Vikings.

The only issue stopping the two from uniting is Brett's throwing arm.

If he did indeed have surgery, it will take up to six to eight weeks to recover before he can really throw a football with precision.

One can still only speculate these reports until Favre officially signs with the Vikings and sets foot in Minnesota.

Once again, stay tuned NFL fans!

Vikings Success Must Start with the Coach

When it comes to the NFL, success is key and idolized by any NFL owner, coach or fan and is a way of the game. Achieving success is never easy, nor should it be easy. It's something that takes years of practice and mastering before it can be really understood.

For a coach, it is something they strive for and put at the top of the list among other things. For those passionate Vikings fans, success is a custom and way life in the state of Minnesota. We strive every day to do the best job we can in every aspect of our lives.

Same goes for our beloved Minnesota Vikings. We hope and pray every day for the team's success on and off the field. Whether it be the NFL Draft, the Free Agency, a trade made, or winning or losing.

The Minnesota hopeful always put their faith in their home town team to be successful.

However, as Vikings fans and followers of the purple, we know that to have a successful football team, you must have a successful head coach leading the way.

The Vikings franchise, since it's creation in 1961, has seen many successful head coaches walk through its doors.

The first head coach to take charge of the purple was former NFL player, Norm Van Brocklin. A championship quarterback with the Philadelphia Eagles, Van Brocklin was known for his tough guy attitude.

Once asked at an introductory news conference what worried him the most about going from the playing field directly to coaching, he simply answered with a casual tone, "I don't worry about anything."

To the contrary, Van Brocklin never became a succesful head coach for the Vikings.

Norm Van Brocklin went a measly 29-51-4 as the head coach for Minnesota, and his days, like his record were numbered as the leader of the Purple.

Unlike his predecessor, Bud Grant finally brought the success the team was looking for, as well as the play style to fit its players. Grant helped create one of the most fearsome, defensive forces of his era, simply known as the "Purple People Eaters".

A stout defense that was lead by Hall of Fame defensive tackle Alan Page, Hall of Fame defensive end Carl Eller, defensive end Jim Marshall, and defensive tackle Gary Larsen.

Together these men brought with them a hard-knocks, "black and blue" defense which their NFC North division is so rightfully nick-named.

Bud Grant didn't just help organize a franchise and a team, he brought with him new ways of looking at the game.

His knowledge of the game supreme to his adversaries, and single-handedly became the most successful head coach in Minnesota Vikings history. He led the Minnesota Vikings to four Super Bowls, only to return to Minneapolis each time empty handed.

In his two stints coaching the Vikings, Bud Grant has a commanding 168-108-5 record.

The only other head coach for the Minnesota Vikings to be as prolific as Grant was Dennis Green who coached from 1992 to 2001 with an overall record of 101-70.

Dennis Green has and will always be remembered for his success during the Vikings 15-1 season in 1998, when they were a field goal short of making it to their fifth Super Bowl appearance.

It was a heart breaking game that generations of Vikings fans remember to this day as one of the most painful games in franchise history.

The Vikings are in the current era of coach Brad Childress, a former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator.

Childress is known for his remarkable work with Andy Reid and the shaping of current Eagles Quarterback Donavan McNabb.

Named the seventh head coach in Vikings franchise history in 2006, his road to success has been a bumpy one, often resembling the likes of Van Brocklin's coaching company.

In his first season as head coach , he set a standard for the team, however these standards were not much help in a 6-10 finish.

But the coach still pushed for the best players on his team, leading the Vikings in 2007 to an honorable (8-8) record for a coach in only his second year. The coach, though, did see the creation a of dominant defense that resembled the "Purple People Eaters".

This was also the year coach Brad Childress saw his first look at running back Adrian Peterson, a young kid from Oklahoma University. At the time, Childress was unaware that this young kid would soon be the focal point of his offense.

It was this last year 2008, that we saw a glimpse of success under the leadership of Childress.

Knowing that he had a star running back in Adrian Peterson, and one of the NFL's best defenses, he continued his trust in the young Tavaris Jackson as the team went (10-6) and surprised many doubters in winning the NFC North division.

The head coach brought playoff football back to the state of Minnesota, which it hadn't seen since 1998, having to play on the road in the 2004 playoffs against their division rival, the Green Bay Packers.

Luckily their divison foe was beaten, and though their playoff hopes were high, they moved on only to get knocked out by the Phildelphia Eagles in the divisional round.

Unfortunately, for the loyal Vikings fans hoping for a first Super Bowl, the Vikings season ended at home with a brutal playoff loss to none other then the Philadelphia Eagles once again, losing 26-14

The only touchdowns being scored by Minnesota's star Adrian Peterson.

Going into the 2009 season, Minnesota Vikings fans are hoping for more success from the coach whose overall record of 24-24 seems to get in the way of the fact that with each season, the team gets better.

The win column increases, the losses go down, and now the Vikings are once again contenders in the NFC North.

Many have criticized Brad Childress though, for his lack of variety when it comes to his play calling, exclaiming that he calls the same plays with no mix up or use of the talent on the roster.

That's one of the key factors for the Vikings' success in 2009.

If head coach Brad Childress utilizes the talented roster he has in front of him, now adding the explosive Florida Wide receiver Percy Harvin, and can use his talent and craft, there will be no doubt in anyone's mind that the Vikings can be successful.

Childress has had three years of experience and talent to surround himself and his staff with.

Now is the opportunity for Brad Childress and the Minnesota Vikings to make a path to success and a respectable record worthy of a Super Bowl championship.

Brett Favre: How He Managed To Torment Two Teams

Do not worry football fans! There is no NEW Favre news...at least not yet!

Just the same old rumors and speculation from "Close sources".

Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre is still in his second retirement.(Probably mowing his giant lawn as we speak).

The Minnesota Vikings are still "interested" in Brett Favre.

His agent, Bus Cook is still trying to push away the media with statements such as: "as far as I know, Brett is still retired".

And as far as we know Brett Favre will not be meeting with Dr. James Andrews, to discuss surgery on that pesky torn tendon in his throwing arm.

Seriously Brett, this is getting old!

You pulled this on us last year, with you retiring, then you got an "Itch" and forced your self back into our football lives.

How many more itches can ya get?!

Does it hurt when you throw the ball right now?

Are you working with a trainer?

What new "speculation" will you conceive on us today?

Who in the world are these "Close Sources"?!

Brett, you had a great career with the Green Bay Packers, 16 in fact!

Then you made Packer GM Ted Thompson mad, so he booted you to the New York Jets. A new city to torment right? Well actually yeah!

You gave the Jets a few good games and then your arm could not hold up! So maybe this is the time to settle down and just learn to watch the game on TV like normal Americans do.

Hey if ya want, I am sure they will want a guy of your football status in the television booth! Maybe even work with Al Michaels?

Sorry buddy, but your tormenting two teams in one way!

The Green Bay Packers do not want to see you in their Arch-Rivals colors! You must be crazy to wear purple to Lambieu Field! Packers fans feel betrayed at the thought of you playing for the Minnesota Vikings.

The Minnesota Vikings fans are almost all in agreement when it comes to you playing for their home team.

But they wonder when will the circus end?

Make up your mind or move one, that is all they ask! They want a Super Bowl, but not if it is going to take all summer to decide if there QB wants to come back.

Brett, all we ask as football fans is that you give up the crazy circus deal, and the "Will he/Will he not?" hype and make up your mind.

We know you love the spot light, but maybe this time you could get your head together again and make a sensible decision...and SOON!

Looking at the NFC North: The Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears finished 9-7 and came up just short in their pursuit of a NFC North division title in 2008. A team many saw winning the division, they lost on the road at Minnesota in a crucial NFC North division game.

To finish the season out, they had a Week 17 road loss to the AFC South Houston Texans on the road that would have given them at least a chance at the playoffs.

But losing a 34-14 matchup against the division rival Minnesota Vikings seemed to be a final stab in the Chicago Bears' morale and a shot at the NFC North title.

This was a game that included a fourth down goal line stand and an NFL record-tying 99-yard touchdown pass caught by, none other than, former Bear WR Bernard Berrian.

The Bears have accepted their failures and are looking to the 2009 season.

Leading them will be newly acquired QB Jay Cutler, a former Denver Bronco who was traded after conflicting issues with new head coach and former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

Chicago hopes Jay Cutler will be that franchise quarterback that has been missing for nearly six decades.

Note: 23 QB's have started for the Chicago Bears since Jim McMahon (the last great QB for Chicago) in the mid 1980's.

Another big key player is second year running back Matt Forte, who shocked every one in his rookie season by rushing for 1,238 yards and eight touchdowns—an explosive weapon in the running game yet versatile in the passing game.

The Chicago Bears know all too well that they will need a much healthier, younger defense in 2009 to compete in the North. The Bears defense was plagued with injuries while veteran age caught up with many.

The Bears allowed 334.7 yards a game (21st) and 241.2 pass yards a game (30th) in a defense that seemed too slow.

Let's take a closer look at the Chicago Bears:

Key Losses

QB Kyle Orton

Draft Picks

2009 First Round Draft pick

2010 First Round Draft Pick

2009 Third Round Draft Pick

Key Additions

QB Jay Cutler, acquired through trade with the Denver Broncos

T Orlando Pace, signed a three-year contract

T Kevin Shaffer, signed a three-year contract

RB Kevin Jones, re-signed to a two-year contract

2009 NFL Draft Picks

Round Three, Pick 68—DE San Jose St. Jarron Gilbert

Round Three, Pick 99—WR Oklahoma Juaquin Iglesias

Round Four, Pick 105—DE Texas Henry Melton

Round Four, Pick 119—CB Vanderbilt D.J. Moore

Round Five, Pick 140—WR Abilene Christian Johnny Knox

Round Five, Pick 154—LB-Ohio St. Marcus Freeman

Round Six, Pick 190—S Oregon St. Al Afalava

Round Seven, Pick 246—G San Diego St. Lance Louis

Round Seven, Pick 251—WR Pittsburgh Derek Kinder

2009 NFL Schedule

Week One: Sept. 13—Bears @ the Green Bay Packers*

Week Two: Sept. 20—the Pittsburgh Steelers @ Bears

Week Three: Sept. 27—Bears @ the Seattle Seahawks

Week Four: Oct. 4—the Detroit Lions @ Bears*

Week Five: BYE

Week Six: Oct. 18—Bears @ the Atlanta Falcons

Week Seven: Oct. 25—Bears @ the Cincinnati Bengals

Week Eight: Nov. 1—the Cleavland Browns @ Bears

Week Nine: Nov. 8—the Arizona Cardinals @ Bears

Week 10: Nov. 12—Bears @ the San Fransisco 49ers

Week 11: Nov. 22—the Philadelphia Eagles @ Bears

Week 12: Nov. 29—Bears @ the Minnesota Vikings*

Week 13: Dec. 6—the St. Louis Rams @ Bears

Week 14: Dec. 13—the Green Bay Packers @ Bears*

Week 15: Dec. 20—Bears @ the Baltimore Ravens

Week 16: Dec. 28—the Minnesota Vikings @ Bears*

Week 17: Jan 3—Bears @ the Detroit Lions*

Overall, the Chicago Bears are hoping newly-acquired QB Jay Cutler can be the leader on offense while opening a chance at the NFC North title.

The Chicago Bears still have issues on the offensive line, in the WR position, and in the defense that they must solve before the regular season begins.

With many road games at the start, the Bears will be looking to get some wins on the board as they get into the latter part of the schedule with games against division opponents the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings.

If the Bears are to be successful in 2009, they will need running back Matt Forte to have a spectacular sophomore year with young players stepping up and filling crucial holes.

The only things that might hinder the Chicago Bears in 2009 will be their lack of talent at WR, key offensive line issues, and an aging defense that is slowing down.

However, the addition of young gunslinger Jay Cutler has made this offense a lot more potent heading into training camp.

If success is to be achieved this year, it will come from the QB position and how well the offensive line can hold.

Looking At The NFC North: The Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings (10-6) last year, enter 2009 with high optimism and a young talented team. Not to mention surprising many by winning the NFC North division in 2008.

Of course as with all teams, the Minnesota Vikings will find defending their title won't be easy this year. Not to mention the key issue revolving the quarterback position, which is still a toss up.

The Vikings tried to answer this problem by trading a fourth round pick during this year's free agency, adding former Houston Texans backup QB, Sage Rosenfels.

However Sage comes with nine years of backup experience on three other teams (the Miami Dolphins, The Washington Redskins, and The Houston Texans). The other key issues the Vikings hope to solve before the regular season starts (Sept. 10), is the center position in their offensive line and right tackle in that line.

Lets take a closer look at the Minnesota Vikings:

Free Agent Signings

Key Losses

Center - Matt Birk - signed with the Baltimore Ravens

Defensive Back - Darren Sharper - signed with the New Orleans Saints

Key Additions

Quarterback - Sage Rosenfels - signed a two year contract

Defensive Back - Cedric Griffin - signed a three year contract extension

Tight End - Jim Kleinsasser - re-signed to a three year contract extension

Fullback - Naufahu Tahi - re-signed to one year (Matched Offer sheet)

Defensive End - Otis Grigsby - re-signed to one year contract

Nose Tackle - Fred Evans - re-signed to one year contract

Defensive Back - Benny Sapp - re-signed to one year contract

Special Teams/Wide Receiver - Glenn Holt - signed as a unrestricted free agent from the Cincinnati Bengals

2009 NFL Draft picks

Round One - Pick No. 22 - Florida WR - Percy Harvin

Round Two - Pick No. 54 - Oklahoma OL - Phil Loadholt

Round Three - Pick No. 86 - Georgia CB - Asher Allen

Round Five - Pick No. 150 - South Carolina - ILB Jasper Brinkley

Round Seven - Pick No. 231 - Mississippi FS - Jamarca Sanford

2009 NFL schedule

Week 1--Sept. 13--Vikings @ Cleavland Browns

Week 2--Sept. 20--Vikings @ Detroit Lions*

Week 3--Sept. 27--San Fransisco 49ers @ Vikings

Week 4--Oct. 5--Green Bay Packers @ Vikings*

Week 5--Oct. 11--Vikings @ St. Louis Rams

Week 6--Oct. 18--Vikings @ Baltimore Ravens

Week 7--Oct. 25--Vikings @ Pittsburgh Steelers

Week 8--Nov. 1--Vikings @ Green Bay Packers*

Week 9-- BYE

Week 10--Nov. 15--Detroit Lions @ Vikings*

Week 11--Nov. 22--Seattle Seahawks @ Vikings

Week 12--Nov. 29--Chicago Bears @ Vikings*

Week 13--Dec. 6--Vikings @ Arizona Cardinals

Week 14--Dec. 13--Cincinnati Bengals @ Vikings

Week 15--Dec. 20--Vikings @ Carolina Panthers

Week 16--Dec. 28--Vikings @ Chicago Bears*

Week 17-- Jan. 3--New York Giants @ Vikings

                   *=Division opponent

Looking to 2009

The Minnesota Vikings have an easier schedule this year, but with tough away games against defenses like the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens, the Minnesota coaching staff will have their hands full. The Vikings also have to be aware of their division rivals who are bolstering their rosters this offseason.

With the NFC North rivals focusing on their key issues, the Vikings will find it quite a bit harder to defend their title in the "Black and Blue" division. Success this season will depend solely on the quarterback position, and how well they perform on the field.

Of course this depending on who the starter is coming out of training camp (Tarvaris Jackson, Sage Rosenfels). The Vikings hope to continue their success on defense with their dangerous pass rushing core and more outstanding play from NFL's best running back Adrian Peterson.

Key Note

The Vikings could bring a new element to their play calling this year with the addition of the elusive and explosive rookie WR Percy Harvin—a player known for playing WR and RB at Florida.

A Moment With Adrian Peterson

What do you ask a guy who has played just two years in the NFL, and is already a football icon?

Simply, you ask him the simple questions, the ones you know he can answer and won't get you in trouble.

I have always wondered what it would be like to sit down and talk with Adrian Peterson. Do I talk about his two years in the NFL?

His college and playing football for Oklahoma?

Or do I ask him about his raw strength and talent to plow over defenders and score on any play?

I'll take all of them!

Adrian Peterson, Very nice to meet you! Defiantly an honor!

• Now Adrian, your entering your third year in the NFL, did you ever imagine you would have such a big impact right away?

• What was your first reaction being drafted in the first round of the NFL draft by the Minnesota Vikings with the seventh pick?

• What was it like to be a rookie among all the veterans at training camp?

• Did anybody put pressure on you, such as family and friends going into your first year?

• What was it like to score your first touchdown? Was there a lot of relief after your first one?

• I'm sure you get this a lot, who was your favorite football player to watch growing up?

• When going into the next year what are your expectations for yourself and the team?

• What kind of goals are you setting for this year?

• There has been a lot of talk of you bulking up for this year. What have you done to prepare and what kind of exercises do you use for something like this?

• Have you and Coach Childress discussed your plan to add some extra muscle?

• Last question Adrian, What are your predictions for you and the Vikings in 2009?

NFC North title again? Playoffs? Super Bowl? Do feel this team is ready for the Super Bowl?

Well I want to thank you Adrian Peterson, for taking time to sit down and talk with me.

It was great to talk to you and good luck this year! I will be watching you as well as the Minnesota Vikings! Can't wait to see what you bring this year!

Thanks again Adrian!

Filling the Holes: 2009 Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings hope to improve on last year's accomplishments with an even better year in 2009.

The Vikings were the 2008 NFC North champions and made it to the playoffs for the first time since 2001, only to go one and done at home in their playoff game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Entering the NFL free agency, the Vikings were looking to add some pieces to the puzzle to complete a young, talented team.

The first acquisition they made was getting Houston Texans' quarterback Sage Rosenfels for a fourth round draft pick.

With Tavaris Jackson still on the roster, coach Brad Childress is looking for a someone to compete with Jackson for the starting quarterback position. A position that has been, what some experts feel, the Vikings "road block" to a Super Bowl.

Rosenfels, coming into his ninth year, has played for several different teams (Miami, Washington, and Houston) only to be a backup.

Rosenfels has a strong arm and can make accurate throws when he doesn't try and force it. He has the ability to see down the field and see the defense. He's very mobile, something the Vikings are looking for in the QB position.

The Vikings are hoping Rosenfels can come in to be the quarteback and type of leader they've been looking for to lead this team in the huddle and in the locker room.

Another hole the Vikings will need to fill is at center, after loosing their Pro Bowl Center Matt Birk to the Baltimore Ravens during free agency.

Contract talks between Birk's agent and the Vikings were halted and both sides could never come to agreement. Birk went elsewhere, signing with the Baltimore Ravens instead.

One of the best players to fill void left by Birk is Notre Dame center John Sullivan, a two year pro. Sullivan was drafted in the sixth round of the 2006 NFL draft, and may have just enough skills to win the center position after spending time with veteran Birk.

Another who may take the job is the six year pro center, Cullen Loeffler, from Texas who has more experience then Sullivan and with less weight to carry weighing in at 241 pounds.

Possibly making him more agile when it comes to blocking for the NFL's best runningback Adrian Peterson.

The next crucial hole the Vikings hope to fill is at right tackle, where they have been plagued by an awful performance from the four year tackle, Ryan Cook, from New Mexico University.

Cook has not risen to the standards or expectations the Vikings staff was hoping for.

In this years 2009 NFL Draft, Childress and the front office looked at this position and may have found their newest man.

A beast from Oklahoma, Phil Loadholt is exactly what his name reads, load. The 6' 8", 332 pound offensive tackle has the raw power and strength to be a key player in that already stout offensive line.

Look to see Loadholt battling Cook for that starting right tackle position during training camp.

Looking to 2009, the Minnesota Vikings are hoping for players to step up and fill the holes left from free agency losses and the lack of talent in certain key positions.

With their NFC North rivals filling some of their team needs this offseason, the Vikings will be having a tougher time defending their NFC North title this year.

However, if the Minnesota Vikings can succeed at their crucial needed positions and continue their success of the other positions, their is no doubt they can defend their division title and reach the playoffs again.

Born and Raised: The Viking Way

Growing up in Minnesota, there are three things you learn fast: the winters are frigid, the summers are sweltering, and the Minnesota Vikings are the most popular team in the state.

Yes, cheering for the Minnesota Vikings is a way of life up here in the North. From the day you are born, you are immersed in the Vikings' way of life and its strong history.

As a young boy, I was witness to some of the craziest football antics a kid can go through with his family. My mother grew up in a Vikings household with her dad and two younger brothers.

Sundays in Minnesota are bread for nothing more than our strong religion base and Minnesota Vikings football.

On Sundays my family would go to church, but as soon as 12:00 came by we were flying out the door, into our "soccer mom" van, and speeding home to watch our purple play some "glorious" football.

Since their formation in 1961, the Minnesota Vikings have been know for their winning ways. Almost always among the top in their NFC North division, the Vikings have been to four Super Bowls: Super Bowl IV, Super Bowl VIII, Super Bowl IX, and Super Bowl XI.

However, as any die-hard Vikings fan knows, we have never won a Super Bowl, a pain we feel each and every year. But we still cheer for our men in purple, and the game style they play.

Since they came to Minnesota, the Vikings have been known for their stout defense, once nicknamed the "Purple People Eaters" in the 1960s for their rough play and strong, pressuring defense. This defense saw legends created with Carl Eller, Alan Page, Gary Larsen, and Jim Marshall.

Our offense was also known for its craftiness and skill to reach the end zone with a throws by players such as Fran Tarkenton, or great runs and jukes from guys like Chuck Foremen.

The Minnesota Vikings have become the most popular team in Minnesota sports, with the two-time world champion Minnesota Twins close behind.

What makes this team a part of the state is its fans. As fans, we live and die with the Vikings on every down.

My mother was a believer in the Minnesota Vikings and every aspect they symbolized, and she passed that on to me.

As a Vikings fan first and foremost, there were things we younger fans learned fast:

You had to hate any team that wasn't the Minnesota Vikings, especially your division rivals the Chicago Bears, the Detroit Lions, and the Green Bay Packers.

And when it came to rivals, there was no one bigger than the border-battle with your archrival Green Bay Packers. A team so wrong and horrible that they were seen as an evil runner-up to the Devil.

The hateful relationship towards our Wisconsin "cheese-heads" has been going on forever, but it hit its peak with the arrival of Brett Favre. A talented, gun slinging quarterback from Mississippi.

We Vikings fans made sure when he came to town, he felt the hatred pour on him at the Metrodome...only to our failure, most of the time.

The Black and Blue division, as its sometimes called in the NFL, has become a symbol of what hard-hitting football is about.

Minnesota Vikings will always be the team of the state, and the team of the loyal purple followers. Growing up a Vikings fan, I will always cheer for the purple, white, and gold with every ounce of my body.

As well, I plan to pass the traditions on to the next generation of Vikings fans. One of the many reasons the Vikings still have a hold of our hearts, tradition, and passion is that they're passed down and taught throughout childhood.

So here's too the many Minnesota Vikings fans who gather to rejoice in the men of the North, and the game they play.

S'kol Vikings let's GO!!!

Brett Favre's Second Retirement Comes Courtesy of Minnesota Vikings' Failure

For NFL fans, the Brett Favre drama has ended...at least for now. The big story coming out of the NFL today was news that Favre told Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress, and every other news media source enticed by the saga, that he will stay retired.

This comes after days of speculation that Favre might come out of his second retirement to play for the Minnesota Vikings of the NFC North. Childress was supposed to be meeting with Favre "later this week at an undisclosed location" to talk about him coming out of his second retirement to play for the Vikings.

However, Minnesota news station (KSTP) reported early this morning that Childress was seen entering the Vikings facility, Winter Park—a very different story than the Twin Cities' newspaper (The Star Tribune), which reported that Brad Childress boarded a commercial flight Wednesday night to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to discuss playing football again with the future Hall of Fame quarterback.

So, misleading reports or not, it looks like the meeting never happened. Where do the Vikings go after this new failure?

Right back on track with their quarterback issues.

Right back to the QB competition that will start late May at Vikings training camp, which will pit former Houston Texans quarterback Sage Rosenfels, looking for his first starting job, against the four-year wonder Tarvaris Jackson.

Having a player with the experience like Brett Favre, though, would have solved the Vikings' quarterback problems at least for a year or two. However, Favre has said he is staying retired, and for the Vikings, it's time for the team to move on and accept failure.

That's something the Vikings are all too familiar with, including their failure to sign free agent wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh to a deal for a team in need of more "dangerous" receivers, as their only deep threat, of course, is ex-Chicago Bear receiver Bernard Berrian.

Now it's time to move on to reality and look towards the 2009 season and a starting quarterback.

The Minnesota Vikings Interest To Put Brett Favre in Purple

Rumors are rumors, and speculation is just what a scientist would call an educated guess. However, when it comes to Brett Favre, there is no educated guess or prediction; just a lot of rumors and small chit chat. This, of course, is the kind of chit chat that fuels the media bonfire.

Once again, speculation has and will continue for months to come about whether or not future Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre will come out of retirement for the second time.

After announcing his emotional first retirement and departure from the Green Bay Packers, Favre found himself in the off season getting that "itch" to play again. This then invoked a long, drama-filled, ugly separation that saw the Packers moving on with Aaron Rodgers. Brett was then traded to the New York Jets of the AFC East Division.

After a great start, the Jets looked like one of the top teams in the AFC East, but then old age and a plagued arm injury crippled the Jets chances, as they won only one of their last four games of the season.

Now we enter the 2009 NFL season with mini camps and training camps on teams' minds. Some say so does Brett, at least the football side of it.

In a recent ESPN interview, Brett Favre tried to erase the rumors that he may be come back out of retirement for a second time to play football, but used a poor choice of words. *"At this time" were the biggest key words taken out of the interview by sports media around the country.

Now the rumor fire has been created and NFL experts feel this is a replay of last year and that Favre may come back to play for the team he first sought as a potential new home: The Minnesota Vikings.

This last week, Vikings head coach Brad Childress was asked about the Hall of Fame quarterback and the teams interest, replying with:

"We haven't. It doesn't mean we won't," Childress said. "We talk about everything, from what's going on in the United States on the front page today...So, yeah, I'm sure we'll talk about that."*

Some believe if Favre, who is currently 39 years old, does decide to come back a second time, the only fit would be the Minnesota Vikings. But until Brett Favre does come out of retirement, it looks like the Vikings will move forward with QB Tavaris Jackson and newly aqcuired Sage Rosenfels to compete for the starting job.

So this summer will provide (once again) Brett Favre-filled rumors and speculation to whether he plays "one more season" or calls it quits. It comes down to simplicity and the "your guess is as good as mine" kind of kind of educated guesses.

And to be honest, your guess IS as good as mine, because we all know when it comes to Brett Favre, there is no certainty or truth until the day it actually happens.

Minnesota Vikings Hope For Big Reward From Percy Harvin

With their 22nd pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings took a big risk in drafting University of Florida star Percy Harvin. Whom some call an easy top ten pick had it not been for off the field trouble and a failed drug test.

That's what happened when the young Harvin tested positive in February for Marijuana during the NFL Scouting Combine. Percy also openly admitted that his last recent smoke came as early as January.

After that inncident, many teams dropped the young Florida star from their draft boards because of a conflict with his chararcter and what the kind of character they wanted on their teams.

However, the Minnesota Vikings weren't so quick to judge and boot young Percy from their list. To get a better understanding, Vikings head coach Brad Childress took a visit down to Florida with a couple days before the draft, to meet with Pery Harvin and get a general perspective of the young man's character and "his side of the story".

As many Vikings fans know, when Brad Childress was hired on as the new head coach in 2006, the Vikings were trying to sepperate them selves from the "Love Boat" scandal. As Childress came in he brought with him his very own "Chararcter of Accountibility" lesson and idea that you need the right players to make a team better based on a player's character and morals.

Any Vikings fan knows all too well, when they drafted Percy Harvin with the 22nd overall pick that "Accountability" lesson when right out of the door.

Many NFL experts believed Harvin wouldn't be drafted high because of his off the field issues that have plagued him since high school. Where he was kicked off his high school track team and thrown out of sports because of altercations with other students and faculty of the school.

He also apparently had anger problems and was seen as a Hot head at times. Knowing to get into arguments on the side lines with Florida head coach Urban Meyer and others.

No football expert will forget to mention the fact that Harvin has had a injury history that many experts believe will follow him into the NFL.

So with young Percy Harvin being wrapped up in so much off the field controversy, why would the Minnesota Vikings want such a high risk player?

Here's possibly a couple reasons why:

*Maybe the Vikings feel the leadership they have in their locker-room is enough to mentor the young gun and train him to be a star on and off the field.

*Maybe the Vikings are tired of being labeled as a team that doesn't have enough talent for a Super Bowl.

*Maybe it's the fact that Percy Harvin had a phenomenal Junior year racking up yards as a dual threat WR/RB at Florida. ***(1,622 all-purpose yards/ 59 passes for 858 yards and 4 touchdowns/ He rushed for 764 yards and six scores on 83 attempts.)

***In the Vanderbilt game, he became the first player in school history to total 100 yards rushing (113) and 100 yards receiving (110) in the same contest!!!

*Maybe it's the fact that Harvin can make explosive plays any where on the field.

*Maybe the Vikings like the idea of using him in a Wildcat system.

There could be many reasons the Minnesota Vikings drafted him and how they will use him this up-coming season.

Mainly I see talented young player who can be explosive on the field and can create big plays. A guy who can line up on the line as a WR and break a long one almost every time. I see a guy who's so multi-taleneted that you can line him up in the backfield with RB Adrian Peterson and give defenses another reason to worry.

With all this talent, there is no reason Percy Harvin can't be that explosive, star-talent the Minnesota Vikings were looking for. It all depends on Percy Harvin and If he can keep himself out of trouble.

The Vikings may have risked a lot but if they turn this kid into raw NFL star potential, you can be guaranteed the Vikings front office as well as Childress will be seen as pure geniuses.

Why the Minnesota Twins Love Justin Morneau

When you think of the Minnesota Twins, you think of the "Twinkies"—a small-market ball club from Minnesota with a roster full of scrappy young players who have a knack for getting on the nerves of the opposing team. Once called "piranhas" by division rival Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen for their small-ball play, the Twins have turned into a dominant force.

Winning four out of the last six American League Central Division titles since 2001, the Twins have proved that their young players can play with the big guys. One of them, Justin Morneau, has become a dominant force in not only Minnesota's offense but also on its resilient defense.

The 6'4" Canadian first baseman has become a fan favorite not just with Minnesotans but also the Twins organization. Morneau has become a home run slugger and an important piece to the Minnesota Twins offense.

MVP chants can always be heard at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome when he steps up to the plate, of course this coming from Justin's phenomenal 2006 MVP year.

That year he recorded 130 RBI, and led the league with a .362 batting average from June 8. He also won the Most Valuable Twin Award and "Silver Slugger" award.

This year has been rather a slow start for Morneau, going 0-for-8 in his first two games, including the 6-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners on opening day. The Twins however, got their MVP back into action in a 6-5 win over the Mariners Wednesday night.

Morneau got his first hit of the year in his first at-bat, a two-run home run hit into the upper deck of right field in the first inning. That blast was given up by former Twins pitcher Carlos Silva and Morneau finished off the night with an RBI double while going 2-for-3 from the plate in a another Twins come-from-behind win.

The Twins have found another gem and have profited from it by turning him into a dominant baseball player—a strong lefthanded batter who can use his power slugging to blast shots into the seats or get those strong base hits that these "piranhas" are used to.

Which makes Justin Morneau one of the Minnesota Twins' most beloved players on a club that has always been known to create All-Stars.

Minnesota Twins Looking To Be Bright Spot in 2009

With Major League Baseball opening in just a couple days, Minnesotans are looking for the Twins to be the difference in a some what below average sports year. Since 2007, when the Minnesota Twins fought back from 12.5 games to win the American League Central, Minnesotans haven't had much to celebrate.

Yes, Minnesota got to quietly talking in 2008, when when the Minnesota Vikings surprised every one to win the NFC North Division with a 10-6 record but also remember they got kicked out of the playoffs.

Loosing to the Philadelphia Eagles in a wild card game at the Metrodome to end a season that was up and down. As any Minnesotan would say: "That's that!"

Even the state of hockey has been limited to disappointment with the Minnesota Wild who are in a meezly third place in the Northwestern Division. This a year after wining their division only to be ousted by the Avalanche in the first round of the playoffs.

This season has been a dismal injury plagued disappointment. Along with speculation that their star player Marion Gaborik was playing his last year with the team.

Basketball in this state is at rock bottom with our Minnesota Timberwolves currently in last place in the Northwest division with a terrible record of 21-54. This young group of players led by coach Kevin McHale has struggled all season long but airing commercials with the slogan "See what they can do!"

We've seen what they can do, and this team is having trouble selling tickets let alone winning a game. It's loosing streak after loosing streak for this young bunch.

In any case, the state of Minnesota hasn't been able to get excited about much involving sports. And with the economy the way it is, Minnesota needs a bright spot.

Enter the Minnesota Twins, or "The Boys of Summer" as we like to call them, bringing in the great ol' game of baseball and warm spring weather along with them. Coming off a surprising second place finish last year in the AL Central, the Twins are ready to prove critics wrong again.

As critics predicted before the season started, the Twins were not supposed to be in contention for their division last year. Yet they proved them wrong fighting down to the last game of the season for the division championship against the Chicago White Sox. Only to loose that game in a nerve wracking 1-0 Nine inning "dog fight."

Entering the 2009 season, the small market Twins hope to surprise critics once again and prove that their farm system is still working.

They also have the players and talent to to succeed putting emphasis in their key players Justin Morneau, Joe Mauer and the likes of young-speedy Carlos Gomez. The Twins also have a new stadium (Target Stadium) ready to open in 2010 to look forward to.

However, only time will tell if the Twins can be the great Minnesotan ball club that this state has come to know and love.

The Vikings Must Grab Jay Cutler

With the recent news of the Denver Broncos putting Jay Cutler on the trade block, NFL teams in need of a quarterback are getting ready to deal.

After several weeks of anger, a lack of communication and stubborn attitudes, the Broncos are willing to trade their star quarterback. Cutler has proved he wants out of Denver and ownership in the Mile High city has said enough is enough. There are several teams that have quietly said they are "open to anything" even open to trading for the Broncos young gun. Of those teams, one of them comes to mind even if it is an opinionated mind...the Minnesota Vikings.

The Minnesota Vikings have been having issues at quarterback for the past three or four years. Now with newly acquired former Houston Texans quarterback Sage Rosenfels the quarterback struggle just got more...depressing.

Vikings head coach Brad Childress has been trying to put his incoherent faith in the young and reckless Tavaris Jackson and it hasn't been a pretty scene. Excluding the last couple games of the 2008 season and the NFC North Division Title the team won, Jackson has not developed into the star purple fans were hoping for.

With Cutler on the trade block and the Vikings in crucial need for a star quarterback, there is no doubt that the Vikings are short on time to deliberate their situation. Earlier in February, Vikings officials were in "subdued talk" with the Denver Broncos. However, with rumors arising that some of the Minnesota coaching staff wasn't thrilled with Cutler, talks ended as soon as they began.

There are many NFL analysts and sports writers who think because of the lack of enthusiasm for the star quarterback, the Vikings won't be serious contenders for Cutler.

As a Vikings fan, I've seen the Vikings pass on many opportunities to snag a good player but if Vikings pass on this one, it will be the worst golden opportunity to pass them by in franchise history.

They need a good passer and leader, and now that Cutler is on the trade block, I have one question for them. WHAT BETTER OPPORTUNITY DO YOU GUYS HAVE?!

Seriously, Childress and his staff really need to reconsider their feelings on Cutler. Vikings fans are tired of getting amp'd up every season to see it crushed by a immature quarterback who is not ready to lead the offense. Adding Rosenfels may have added more competition for Jackson, but if you want to be serious contenders for the Super Bowl and crush your NFC North rivals, YOU MUST GET JAY CUTLER!!!
