Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Are Red Hot but Is "Vladdy" Slowing Down?

When you think of the Angels you think of Vladimir Guerrero, and rightfully so. After all, since signing with the Angels in 2004, the guy has produced no less than a 300 batting average in each of the four seasons played and in his very first year with the Angels won the American League MVP.

However, for the first time since joining the Angels, "Big Daddy Vladdy" seems to be slowing down. With only 25 games and an estimated 100 at bats left, here are Vladdy's numbers (AVG .298, SLG .511, OBP .360). The only time Vladdy has finished a season with a slugging percentage under 500 and an on base percentage under 370 in his whole career was his rookie season in 1997 when his numbers were (AVG .302, SLG .483, OBP .350).

Vladdy is in the last year of his five year contract with the Angel's and the club has an option for the 2009 season. Do you think it would be smart for the Angel's to take the 2009 option and extend Vladdy another lucrative contract?

In my opinion, if the Angel's have long term visions for Vladdy as their DH then it makes sense. Even with his numbers dipping slightly he is always an offensive threat in the lineup. Also, with less wear and tear on him in the outfield I think he'll emerge as a stronger hitter.
