Brett Favre a Goofy Situation for the NFC North?

Objectively speaking, the Brett Favre to the Vikings would be Bad News to the Bears and Packers.

It remains unclear, whether Brett Favre called Minnesota, or Minnesota called Brett Favre; however, the story starts it ends the same way. Let’s break down the who’s who, and the what’s and why’s for better analysis.

Who’s Who

Brett Favre:

· First ballot hall of fame QB.

· NFC North Opponent Destroyer

· Pro Bowl player with the NY Jets

· Forced out of his beloved home on the frozen tundra in WI.

· Reportedly has not been working out

· Reportedly did not have surgery to fix his torn bicep.

One only has to look as far back as last year’s week 10 and 11 games against the Patriots and Titans, that Brett Favre still had all of the tools necessary to be an iconic game changer and Sunday Champion.

Had he not injured his bicep you could argue the NY Jets would have made the playoffs and more (8-3 before injury).

QB’s best friend: Running Game, OL and good WR’s.

Minnesota

· Best Running Back in the NFC (NFL).

· Best OL/DL in NFC North.

· Have not been able to solidify QB position.

· Have to react to Jay Cutler Trade, Mathew Stafford daft.

· Drafted Percy Harvin.

· 2008 NFC North Champions

· OC: Darrel Bevell

· Have a Monday night game against Packers in Week Four.

Minnesota made some nice quiet moves this year and was content to have their QB position solidified by either Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenthal. That was until The Chicago Bears traded for Jay Cutler.

With the Lions having the number one overall pick, it really left Minnesota as being the only team in the NFC North without a legitimate game changing Quarterback.

You only need to look as far as a QB’s body of work to know who they are , and who they will not be. Tarvaris and Sage are known quantities and not likely to change the color of their coats anywhere they play.

Why did the Vikings draft another number one receiver, in the draft this year when they had obvious defensive needs? One could surmise to entice Brett Farvre with a great OL, great RB and now great WR’s.

I bullet pointed out the Minnesota OC above for the following reason:

‘In 2000, Bevell was hired by the Green Bay Packer as an offensive assistant. In 2003, he was promoted to quarterbacks coach, where he worked with future NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre. In 2006, Childress was the head coach of the Vikings, and he brought Bevell to his team as offensive coordinator’

If in fact Brett’s arm has healed which seems to be the only real question, then I surmise the day that the Bears landed Jay Cutler is the Day where the Vikings said we NEED Brett Favre.

With Favre’s old QB coach as his OC, a great OL, a great Running Game, talented speedy WR’s and a decent Defensive, he could easily on paper guide the Minnesota Vikings deep into the NFC Playoffs.

Without a healthy Favre; Minnesota will have to rely solely on Childress’s ability to manage a game, and pound the rock with Adrian Peterson. Another NFC division title? Perhaps, but with QB such as Aaron Rodgers and Jay Cutler less of a chance to hold onto the Time of Possession battle, less of a chance to secure a playoff .

If Brett Favre comes back to the NFC North, you can be sure ted Thompson will not be sleeping well until after Week Four, and not at all if Favre returns and helps shred the Packers on Monday Night Prime Time.

The Bears may fair better as Lovie Smith has proved as a D Coordinator in St Louis and as the head coach he can beat Brett Favre. However, Lovie Smith has been unable to beat Adrian Peterson.

Like the past two seasons, we can expect the Favre Saga to continue until players report for camp. But expect the Vikings to go deep if Favre comes back!
