Colt Brennan in 2009: The Reality Sinks In

As a fan of both the Washington Redskins and the University of Hawaii, I was ecstatic last year when I got the news that Brennan was drafted in the 6th by my favorite NFL team.

I had visions of Brennan in burgundy and gold, living up to his Pre-Sugar Bowl hype and proving all his critics wrong. Well my visions and hopes were crushed when I realized that it just simply wasn’t going to happen for Brennan in Washington.

When the Colt Brennan bandwagon pulled into the DC station, it was made clear to its passengers that Jason Campbell hadn’t sucked enough in 2007 to be replaced.

Colt did have some shining moments in preseason, but they were discredited with the “Third String Defense” defense. The general consensus was that you had to be out of you mind if you thought Brennan was worthy of starting.

What about the #2 spot? Nope, Todd Collins knows more about being a back-up QB than anyone in the league. Even after those dreadful words “eliminated from playoff contention” appeared on the NFL standings pages, Zorn still wouldn’t give Brennan some play time.

I received a Google News alert today in regards to an article in the Washington Times that mentioned Brennan.

In summation the article said “don’t bother getting your hopes up this season.” I’m no longer frustrated; at this point I’m afraid. I’m not afraid for the Redskins, it’s just a matter of time before they return to their glory days of 18 years ago (my heart sunk when I did the math).

I am afraid that Brennan will never get his shot because he’s stuck in Washington. With that said, I have found new hope.

If they’re not going to play him, I hope they trade him.
