Peyton Manning Retirement: A "Love Song"

To be sung to the tune of Sara Bareilles' "Love Song"...

Colts miss the playoffs
And they tell me that Peyton Manning retired
Next season gets harder, even I know that
Made room for a QB, but it's too soon to see
If the Colts are happy in his hands
Hall of Fame quarterbacks are hard to replace

Like Jim Kelly who played
In four straight Super Bowls but
Lost them all, early two decades ago

I'm not gonna write you a love song
Cause the Colts suck now
Cause you need one, you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
Cause you tell me it's
Make or break in this
For the Colts next year
I'm not gonna get over it
If Manning is retiring, I'm gonna need a better
Reason to write you a love song today

I learned the hard way
That all great quarterbacks retire
The Colts are gonna have another bad start
Again next season
And it just hurts
The Colts are not what they once were
Hello to this new QB

Convinced me the Colts suck
The Colts start 3-9 next year
I'm trying to let you hear me as I am

I'm not gonna write you a love song
Cause the Colts suck now
Cause you need one, you see

I'm not gonna write you a love song
Cause you tell me it's
Make or break in this
For the Colts next year
I'm not gonna get over it
If Manning is retiring, I'm gonna need a better
Reason to write you a love song today

Promise me that you'll leave the light on
To help the Colts with a new quarterback
Cause I believe there's a way the Colts can still
Make the playoffs

I won't write you a love song
Cause the Colts suck now
Cause you need one you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
Cause you tell me it's make or break in this
Is that why you wanted a love song
Cause the Colts suck now
Cause you need one you see
I'm not gonna write you a love song
Cause you tell me it's make or break in this
For the Colts next year
I'm not gonna get over it
If the Colts are nowhere in it
Deep in the playoffs in two years
Babe, I'll walk the seven seas when I believe that
The Colts are gonna
Win the Super Bowl today

Mississippi State Football: A Realistic Preview of the Bulldogs' Upcoming Season

To be honest with you guys, I really was not planning on writing an article today. However, you guys will not believe this:

Jonathan Flippo, a recent high school graduate from Mississippi, wrote on a College Football forum on Facebook, that the Mississippi State Bulldogs would win the SEC West, and go 11-1 this season—with their only loss coming at LSU!

Of course, Flippo also predicted that the Mississippi State Bulldogs would be 4-0 heading into their showdown in Baton Rouge with the LSU Tigers. However, he would not stop there.

Moreover, Flippo added that he also believes that Mississippi State will CRUSH their first four opponents, which include Louisiana Tech, Auburn, and Georgia Tech.

After being asked whether he was being serious about all of this, Flippo responded by saying that he was VERY CONFIDENT that Mississippi State would CRUSH Louisiana Tech, Auburn, and Georgia Tech!

What's more is that Flippo also said that he was CONFIDENT that Mississippi State would WIN ALL THREE of their post-LSU road games—@ Tennessee, @ Alabama, and @ Mississippi.

Of course, Flippo tops this all off, by saying that he believes that Mississippi State will represent the SEC West in the SEC Championship Game—where he predicts the Georgia Bulldogs will beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs!

Obviously, this was NOT a realistic preview of the Bulldogs' season! That is why I am writing an article today. Unlike Flippo, I actually have a realistic preview of the Bulldogs' season. Here it is:

Aug. 30 @ Louisiana Tech – Week 1

In the battle of the Bulldogs, Derek Dooley’s upstart Louisiana Tech Bulldogs hold serve at home, to defeat the Mississippi State Bulldogs. And NO, Louisiana Tech will NOT need overtime to win this game!

My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Loss

Mississippi State's record after this game: 0-1 overall

Sept. 6 vs. Southeastern Louisiana - Week 2

After losing to the upstart Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Mississippi State bounces back with an easy victory over Southeastern Louisiana, a terrible FCS team.

My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win

Mississippi State's record after this game: 1-1 overall

Sept. 13 vs. Auburn - Week 3

Sophomore QB Wesley Carroll does just enough, to defeat Auburn for the second straight year—and the Bulldogs make up for the loss at Louisiana Tech!

My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win

Mississippi State's record after this game: (2-1 overall, 1-0 SEC)

Sept. 20 @ Georgia Tech - Week 4

A "sandwich" game, Mississippi State head coach Sly Croom keeps his team focused, and mentally prepared for this game. As a result, Mississippi State has very little trouble against Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs head into their showdown against LSU, at Baton Rouge, with a 3-game winning streak.

My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win

Mississippi State's record after this game: (3-1 overall, 1-0 SEC)

Sept. 27 @ LSU - Week 5

There's no way that Mississippi State makes up 45 points in the span of just one year. Besides, this game is in Baton Rouge anyways! A NO-win situation for the Bulldogs!

My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Loss

Mississippi State's record after this game: (3-2 overall, 1-1 SEC)

(Bye week - Week 6)

Oct. 11 vs. Vanderbilt - Week 7

After a much-needed bye week, Mississippi State bounces back from their loss at LSU, and records an easy win at home, against Vanderbilt.

My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win

Mississippi State's record after this game: (4-2 overall, 2-1 SEC)

Oct. 18 @ Tennessee - Week 8

Sly Croom's Mississippi State Bulldogs put up a valiant fight against the Vols, on the road at Neyland Stadium. However, the Bulldogs come up just short of pulling off the upset.

My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Loss

Mississippi State's record after this game: (4-3 overall, 2-2 SEC)

Oct. 25 vs. Middle Tennessee State - Week 9

After coming off a heartbreaking loss at Tennessee, the Mississippi State Bulldogs bounce back with another easy out-of-conference victory, over Middle Tennessee, from the Sun Belt Conference.

My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win

Mississippi State's record after this game: (5-3 overall, 2-2 SEC)

Nov. 1 vs. Kentucky - Week 10

Mississippi State stays perfect at home, as the Bulldogs have very little trouble against the Kentucky Wildcats. With this win, Mississippi State becomes bowl eligible for the second straight season!

My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win

Mississippi State's record after this game: (6-3 overall, 3-2 SEC)

(Bye week - Week 11)

Nov. 15 @ Alabama - Week 12

No way Mississippi State beats Alabama in THREE consecutive years—and in consecutive even years on the road, at Tuscaloosa!

My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Loss

Mississippi State's record after this game: (6-4 overall, 3-3 SEC)

Nov. 22 vs. Arkansas - Week 13

Sly Croom will NOT allow his Mississippi State Bulldogs to LOSE AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY, to a SUCKY Arkansas team—UNLIKE what Les Miles and his LSU Tigers did, last season! As a result, Mississippi State completes a perfect 6-0 season at home!

My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Win

Mississippi State's record after this game: (7-4 overall, 4-3 SEC)

Nov. 28 @ Mississippi - Week 14

A Rebel Yell: The Rebels score MORE, MORE, MORE (than the Bulldogs)! As a result of this loss, the Mississippi State Bulldogs finish the season with 7-5 record, for the second straight year.

My projected outcome for Mississippi State in this game: Loss

Mississippi State's regular season record: (7-5 overall, 4-4 SEC)

Jimson Cuenta's BCS National Championship Game SPECIAL EDITION: Part 18

Here is a recap of Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 15 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida Gators, 13-0

2. Missouri Tigers, 13-0

3. Utah Utes, 12-0

4. Arizona State Sun Devils, 11-1

5. West Virginia Mountaineers, 11-1

6. Texas Tech Red Raiders, 12-1

7. Kansas Jayhawks, 10-2

8. Georgia Bulldogs, 10-2

9. Ohio State Buckeyes, 10-2

10. Boise State Broncos, 11-1

Now, it's time to move on to Week 3 of the 2008 college football bowl season.

Key Games in Week 3 of the Bowl Season (Friday, January 2, 2009 through Thursday, January 8, 2009):

Allstate Sugar Bowl (Friday, January 2, 2009):

Clemson (11-2) vs. Georgia (10-2) (in New Orleans)

Well, this is what it SHOULD have been in the Sugar Bowl, LAST SEASON! However, it is better late than never... as the No. 12 Clemson Tigers and the No. 8 Georgia Bulldogs face off in the Allstate Sugar Bowl, at the Superdome!

After getting off to a 10-0 start, the Clemson Tigers looked like they were going to make a run at the BCS National Championship Game.

However, as Clemson has done in the past two seasons... they stumbled down the stretch, losing two of their final three games, heading into the Sugar Bowl!

On the other hand, the Georgia Bulldogs head into the Sugar Bowl with a 10-2 record, and winning eight of their final nine games... for the second straight season!

Unfortunately, it looks to me like this is setting up for a repeat of last season's Sugar Bowl. In the end, I expect the Georgia Bulldogs to CRUSH the Clemson Tigers, by about FOUR or FIVE TOUCHDOWNS... as Clemson goes down without a fight!

Winner: Georgia

Tostitos Fiesta Bowl (Monday, January 5, 2009):

Boise State (11-1) vs. Utah (12-0) (in Glendale, Arizona)

This is the first time that a BCS Bowl Game features TWO BCS Busters! In fact, BOTH of these BCS Busters are ranked in the Top 10... as the No. 10 Boise State Broncos take on the No. 3 Utah Utes, in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl!

Also, BOTH of these BCS Busters have a previous victory in the Fiesta Bowl. Four seasons ago, the Utah Utes CRUSHED the Pittsburgh Panthers, 35-7... while the Boise State Broncos defeated the Oklahoma Sooners 43-42, in OVERTIME, just two seasons ago!

Well, the Utah Utes have been VERY DOMINANT this season... as senior quarterback Brian Johnson led the Utes to an UNDEFEATED record, on his way to winning the Heisman Trophy.

In the end, I expect Utah's DOMINANCE this season to continue, in the Fiesta Bowl... as the Utah Utes to CRUSH the Boise State Broncos, in similar fashion to four years ago!

The Utah Utes complete their SECOND UNDEFEATED SEASON, in five seasons. In fact, the Utes could possibly WIN a SHARE of their FIRST-EVER NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!

Winner: Utah

BCS National Championship Game (Thursday, January 8, 2009):

Missouri (13-0) vs. Florida (13-0) (in Miami)

Well, this is it... The wait is NOW OVER! Fifty-one days after the start of this series, we have FINALLY reached the END of the golden road.

The 54th and FINAL key game of Jimson's 2008 College Football series is a showdown between two UNDEFEATED teams... who are ranked No. 1 and No. 2.

Without further adieu, the No. 2 Missouri Tigers and the No. 1 Florida Gators face off in the BCS Championship Game, in Miami... with the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP on the line!

Well, I think that this will be a very exciting BCS National Championship Game. I mean, there are just WAY TOO MANY great players on the field, in this game... NOT for it to be exciting!

In fact, I think that this game has the POTENTIAL to be the GREATEST GAME PLAYED... since the January 2006 Rose Bowl Game, in which Vince Young and the Texas Longhorns defeated the USC Trojans 41-38.

Moreover, I really think that this BCS National Championship Game will be played out VERY SIMILAR to the 2006 Rose Bowl Game!

The Florida Gators are playing an UNDEFEATED Big 12 team, in their HOME STATE... with the opportunity to become the FIRST team, since the 2004 USC Trojans, to go WIRE-TO-WIRE #1, in a poll!

Does this sound quite familiar?

Well, this is the SAME EXACT situation that the 2005 USC Trojans faced. In fact, BOTH the 2005 USC Trojans and the 2008 Florida Gators have a quarterback, that WON the Heisman Trophy... during the previous season!

In the end, I think that this all adds up to a VERY CLOSE and thrilling victory, in addition to a BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP... for the Missouri Tigers!

Winner: Missouri

Jimson's FINAL Top 10 Standings After the 2008 College Football Bowl Season:

1. Utah 13-0 (defeated Boise State: Jimson Poll NATIONAL CHAMPIONS)

2 (SPLIT #1). Missouri 14-0 (defeated Florida - AP & BCS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS)

3. Texas Tech 13-1 (defeated LSU in the Cotton Bowl)

4. Florida 13-1 (LOST to Missouri in the BCS National Championship Game)

5. Georgia 11-2 (defeated Clemson in the Allstate Sugar Bowl)

6. Kansas 11-2 (defeated USC in the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl)

7. Ohio State 11-2 (defeated Arizona State in the Rose Bowl Game)

8. Arizona State 11-2 (LOST to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl Game)

9. West Virginia 11-2 (LOST to Virginia Tech in the FedEx Orange Bowl)

10. Alabama 11-3 (defeated Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl)

Dropped out: #10 Boise State 11-2 (LOST to Utah in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl)

THE END!

Jimson Cuenta's 2008 College Football Series: Part 17

Here is a recap of Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 15 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida Gators, 13-0

2. Missouri Tigers, 13-0

3. Utah Utes, 12-0

4. Arizona State Sun Devils, 11-1

5. West Virginia Mountaineers, 11-1

6. Texas Tech Red Raiders, 12-1

7. Kansas Jayhawks, 10-2

8. Georgia Bulldogs, 10-2

9. Ohio State Buckeyes, 10-2

10. Boise State Broncos, 11-1

Now, it's time to move on to Week 2 of the 2008 college football bowl season.

Key Games in Week 2 of the Bowl Season (Friday, December 26 through Thursday, January 1, 2009):

Pacific Life Holiday Bowl (Tuesday, December 30):

USC (10-2) vs. Kansas (10-2) (in San Diego, California)

Well, this bowl game will mean so much to me, personally... because it features my father's favorite team (USC) and my own favorite team (Kansas)!

Moreover, this matchup features the two teams, that SHARED the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, with the LSU Tigers!

The USC Trojans shared the National Championship (by finishing No. 1 in the AP Poll), during the 2003 College Football season... while the Kansas Jayhawks won a share of the National Championship (by finishing No. 1 in the Jimson Poll), last season!

Well, all this talk about "SPLIT CHAMPIONSHIPS" stops... when the USC Trojans take on the No. 7 Kansas Jayhawks, in the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl, at Qualcomm Stadium.

By the way, the USC Trojans FAILED to win the Pac-10, and qualify for a BCS Bowl Game... for the first time since the 2001 College Football season.

By the way, the USC Trojans finished the 2001 season, with a 6-6 record... and on December 25, 2001, USC lost 10-6, to an upstart Utah Utes team, in the Las Vegas Bowl!

On the other hand, the Kansas Jayhawks head into the bowl season, coming off a loss to Missouri, in the Big 12 North Championship Game... for the second straight season!

However, on January 3rd last season, the Kansas Jayhawks rebounded, and defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies, 24-21, in the Orange Bowl... to finish the 2007 season, with a 12-1 record! In addition, the victory earned the Kansas Jayhawks are SHARE of the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, for the 2007 College Football season... as Kansas was voted No. 1 in the final Jimson Poll!

Well, I expect Todd Reesing to have a Heisman-like performance in the Pacific Life Holiday Bowl... as the Kansas Jayhawks defeat the USC Trojans, to finish the 2008 season with an 11-2 record.

On the other hand, the USC Trojans finish the 2008 season with a 10-3 record... as USC loses MORE THAN TWO games in a season, for the first time since the 2001 season!

Moreover, the Kansas Jayhawks make a great case to be the preseason #1, for the 2009 College Football season. Well, that is... IF Tim Tebow leaves school early, and declares for the 2009 NFL Draft!

Winner: Kansas

The Rose Bowl Game (Thursday, January 1, 2009):

Ohio State (10-2) vs. Arizona State (11-1) (in Pasadena, California)

This season's Rose Bowl Game features the traditional showdown, between the Big Ten Champion and the Pac-10 showdown!

In fact, BOTH of these teams are ranked in the Top 10... as the No. 9 Ohio State Buckeyes and the No. 4 Arizona State Sun Devils travel to Pasadena, to face off in the Rose Bowl Game.

The Arizona State head into this game with a lot of momentum, and an eight-game winning streak!

On the other hand, the Ohio State Buckeyes head into this game with a 10-2 record. Unfortunately, I just cannot see Ohio State losing THREE games, this season!

Winner: Ohio State

FedEx Orange Bowl (Thursday, January 1, 2009):

Virginia Tech (10-3) vs. West Virginia (11-1) (in Miami)

Well, Marcus Vick flicked his middle finger... when these two teams last met, during the 2005 College Football season!

This time around, the two teams meet in a BCS Bowl Game...as the Virginia Tech Hokies take on the No. 5 West Virginia Mountaineers, in the FedEx Orange Bowl!

In addition to flicking his middle finger, Marcus Vick also handed the Mountaineers their only loss, during the 2005 season.

I sense the scary feeling of deja vu! NO, I am NOT talking about a repeat of the infamous "Middle finger incident"... I am talking about a repeat of the outcome, of the 2005 meeting!

Well, the Virginia Tech Hokies have LOST bowl games as the favorite, in recent bowl seasons... while the West Virginia Mountaineers have pulled off upsets as the underdog, in recent bowl seasons.

Now, the roles are reversed - Virginia Tech is the underdog, while West Virginia is the favorite. I also see a reversal of bowl game fortunes, as I look for Frank Beamer and the Virginia Tech Hokies to pull off the upset!

Winner: Virginia Tech

Stay tuned! Jimson Cuenta will finally crown a NATIONAL CHAMPION in the 18th, and FINAL, part of his 2008 College Football Series, which will be released on Monday, August 11, 2008 :)

Jimson Cuenta's 2008 Heisman Trophy Presentation SPECIAL EDITION: Part 16

Here is a recap of Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 15 of the 2008 College Football season:

Now, it's time to move on to Week One of the 2008 college football bowl season!

FCS Championship Game (Friday, December 19):

Well, the Appalachian State Mountaineers are in the FCS Championship Game, once again... for the fourth consecutive year! This time, their opponent in the Championship Game is the Weber State Wildcats.

Both of these teams come into this game with double-digit game winning streaks and a lot of momentum! In fact, both of these teams had a huge win on the road early in the season against an FBS team that won 12 games during the 2007 college football season!

On August 30th, the Appalachian State Mountaineers stunned the LSU Tigers in Tiger Stadium while the Weber State Wildcats defeated the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (albeit without 2007 Heisman Finalist, Colt Brennan) on September 7th!

In addition, both of these teams come into this game with only one loss in the 2008 college football season!

On September 20th, the Appalachian State Mountaineers were upset on the road against James Madison University! One week later, the Weber State Wildcats lost on the road to the then 11th ranked FBS team, the Utah Utes. In fact, the Utah Utes are now ranked third in the FBS and still have a chance to win a share of the national championship!

But since their respective lone losses of the season, the Appalachian State Mountaineers bring a 12-game winning streak into the FCS Championship Game while the Weber State Wildcats bring a 10-game winning streak into the FCS Championship Game.

In the end, I expect Armanti Edwards and the Appalachian State Mountaineers to put their Championship Game experience to good use in this game and to defeat the Weber State Wildcats for their fourth consecutive FCS Championship!

Winner: Appalachian State

Las Vegas Bowl (Saturday, December 20):

Arizona (6-6) vs. BYU (10-2) (in Las Vegas, Nevada)

Although the BYU Cougars did not achieve their "quest for perfection" during the 2008 College Football season, BYU gets a nice consolation prize. That consolation prize is a fourth consecutive Las Vegas Bowl to face their third different Pac 10 opponent this season. And it comes with the opportunity to finish the season with an 11-2 record for the third straight year!

On the other hand, the Arizona Wildcats make their first bowl game appearance for the first time in 10 years. By the way, the last time Arizona played in a bowl game was on December 30, 1998 when the Arizona Wildcats defeated the defending and "three-time recent" (1994, 1995, 1997) National Champion Nebraska Cornhuskers 23-20 in the Holiday Bowl!

However, I do not expect things to go as well for Arizonain this bowl game. As a result, BYU wins the Las Vegas Bowl and finishes the season with an 11-2 record for the third consecutive year.

In addition, I look for BYU to build on the momentum of three straight 11-2 seasons and make a run at a perfect season during the 2009 College Football season.

Winner: BYU

Sheraton Hawaii Bowl (Wednesday, December 24):

Oregon (7-5) vs. Nevada (9-3) (in Honolulu, Hawaii)

This should be an interesting WAC vs. Pac-10 showdown as the Oregon Ducks and the Nevada Wolf Pack travel to Honolulu to face off in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl!

Well, the Nevada Wolf Pack is just on a roll right now. In fact, Nevadahas won eight of the last nine games (including a huge victory at home on senior day against the Boise State Broncos) after starting the season 1-2. As a result, the Nevada Wolf Pack won a share of the WAC Championship with Boise State and Fresno State!

On the other hand, the Oregon Ducks found out just how much they miss Dennis Dixon because Oregon went 7-5 during the regular season!

In the end, I expect the Nevada Wolf Pack to continue their hot streak and defeat the Oregon Ducks to finish the season with a 10-3 record. On the other hand, the Oregon Ducks finish their first season without Dennis Dixon with a 7-6 record.

Winner: Nevada

Jimson Cuenta's 2008 College Football Series: Part 14

[Author's Note: In Parts 12-14 of my College Football series... I may get a little obsessive-compulsive with "The Importance of Winning AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY."]

Here is a recap of Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 13 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida Gators 11-0

2. Utah Utes 12-0

3. Texas Tech Red Raiders 11-0

4. Missouri Tigers 11-0

5. Kansas Jayhawks 10-1

6. Arizona State Sun Devils 9-1

7. West Virginia Mountaineers 9-1

8. Georgia Bulldogs 9-2

9. Alabama Crimson Tide 9-2

10. Clemson Tigers 10-1

Now, it's time to move on to Week 14 of the 2008 college football season.

Key Games in Week 14:

Kansas (10-1) vs. Missouri (11-0) (in Kansas City, Missouri)

Obviously, this Big 12 North showdown is the game of the week in Week 14! In fact, this matchup features two teams, who are each ranked in the top five... as the #5 Kansas Jayhawks and the #4 Missouri Tigers face off, in Arrowhead Stadium!

In addition, BOTH of these teams head into this showdown, with so much momentum, and coming off a bye week! In fact, the Missouri Tigers head into the showdown with an UNDEFEATED record... while the Kansas Jayhawks are coming off a HUGE WIN, AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY, against the Texas Longhorns, in Week 12.

In the end, I expect the Missouri Tigers to defeat the Kansas Jayhawks, and improve to 12-0... to set up an ALL-UNDEFEATED Big 12 Championship Game, against the Texas Tech Raiders!

Winner: Missouri

Auburn (8-3) @ Alabama (9-2)

It is SENIOR DAY in Tuscaloosa, Alabama... for the Alabama Crimson Tide!

Well, it's time, once again for the Iron Bowl, as the Auburn Tigers travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the #9 Alabama Crimson Tide!

Although Alabama has already won the SEC West, and clinched a berth to the SEC Championship Game (against Florida), it must also be noted that the Auburn Tigers have defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide SIX years in a row, in the Iron Bowl!

Remember what the Alabama Crimson Tide did last season, AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY?

Well, it's VERY EMBARRASSING, to say the least! However, I am pretty sure that most people remember it.

On November 17th last season, the Alabama Crimson Tide LOST AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY to the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, 21-14. In fact, this following quote was written, on the Louisiana-Monroe @ Alabama game recap, on ESPN.com:

"The Sun Belt's Louisiana-Monroe, which beat Nick Saban and Alabama 21-14 in Tuscaloosa, is not a good team. Not even by Sun Belt standards. Back on Oct. 13, ULM lost to North Texas 31-21."

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/recap?gameId=273210333

Okay now, does anyone remember what the Alabama Crimson Tide did AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY... in each of the past SIX seasons?

Anyway, I just actually RESEARCHED this! In my reserach found out that the Alabama Crimson Tide holds the NATION's LONGEST CURRENT STREAK of LOSING AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY! In fact, the Alabama Crimson Tide have LOST AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY in each of the past SIX seasons:

2002: (November 23) No. 22 Auburn 17, Alabama 7

2003: (November 15) No. 2 LSU 27, Alabama 3

2004: (November 20) No. 3 Auburn 21, Alabama 13

2005: (November 12) No. 5 LSU 16, No. 4 Alabama 13

2006: (November 18) No. 15 Auburn 22, Alabama 15

2007: (November 17) Louisiana-Monroe 21, Alabama 14

Finally, does anyone remember when was the last time that… the Alabama Crimson Tide WON AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY?

In fact, it has been so long since the Alabama Crimson Tide LAST WON AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY that ESPN does NOT even go that far back, to show it!

So, I NEEDED to use another website to complete my research... and this is what I found:

http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/college_football_2001_schedules/alabama.htm

11-29-01 *SOUTHERN MISS (Thur.)** WON 28-15 - *at Birmingham, AL

However, I expect the Alabama Crimson Tide to FINALLY WIN AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY, and put an end to all of these embarrassing streaks... by beating the Auburn Tigers, for the first time since Andrew Zow was the starting quarterback for the Crimson Tide!

The Alabama Crimson Tide have now realized the vital Importance of WINNING AT HOME, ON SENIOR DAY!

Winner: Alabama

Washington State (5-7) @ Hawaii (1-10)

Well, BOTH of these teams snapped long losing streaks last week, as the Washington State Cougars snapped a 7-game losing streak, by beating the Washington Huskies... while the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors snapped an 11-game losing streak (dating back to the Sugar Bowl), and earned their FIRST victory of the 2008 season, by beating the Idaho Vandals!

On December 1st last season, the Rainbow Warriors, with Heisman finalist Colt Brennan, had to overcome a 21-point deficit, in Week 14, and NEEDED TWO TOUCHDOWNS, in the FINAL EIGHT MINUTES, to defeat the Washington Huskies.

Now that Hawaii is without Brennan, I am wondering if Hawaii can even win this game, against the Washington State Cougars.

Either way, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors are not going to win this game IF they get down by at least 21 points. I just do not know how they can come back from that deficit, WITHOUT Colt Brennan.

Look for the Washington State Cougars to win this game, to improve to 6-7 on the season, and become BOWL ELIGIBLE... while the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors continue their struggles THIS SEASON, and fall to 1-11 on the 2008 season.

Winner: Washington State

Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 14 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida 12-0 (defeated @ Florida State)

2. Utah 12-0 (bye week)

3. Missouri 12-0 (defeated Kansas)

4. Texas Tech 12-0 (defeated Baylor)

5. Arizona State 10-1 (defeated UCLA)

6. West Virginia 10-1 (defeated @ Pittsburgh)

7. Kansas 10-2 (LOST to Missouri)

8. Georgia 10-2 (defeated Georgia Tech)

9. Alabama 10-2 (defeated Auburn)

10. Clemson 11-1 (defeated South Carolina)

Stay tuned! Part 15 of Jimson's 2008 College Football Series will be released on Saturday, August 2, 2008 :)

[Author's Note: In Parts 12-14 of my College Football series... I may get a little obsessive-compulsive with "The Importance of Winning AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY."]

Here is a recap of Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 11 of the 2008 College Football season.

1. Florida Gators 9-0

2. Missouri Tigers 10-0

3. Texas Tech Red Raiders 10-0

4. Kansas Jayhawks 9-1

5. Utah Utes 10-0

6. Arizona State Sun Devils 8-1

7. USC Trojans 8-1

8. Clemson Tigers 9-0

9. West Virginia Mountaineers 8-1

10. Ohio State Buckeyes 9-1

Now, it's time to move on to Week 12 of the 2008 college football season.

Key Games in Week 12

Texas (8-2) @ Kansas (9-1)

It is SENIOR DAY in Lawrence, Kansas... for the Kansas Jayhawks!

This Big 12 showdown is arguably the game of the week in Week 12. In fact, BOTH of these teams are ranked in the Top 15 as the No. 14 Texas Longhorns travel to Lawrence to take on the No. 4 Kansas Jayhawks!

Remember what the Kansas Jayhawks did last season, AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY?

On November 17 last season, the Kansas Jayhawks CRUSHED the Iowa State Cyclones 45-7... AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY, to improve to 11-0. In addition, Todd Reesing had a Heisman-like performance that day!

Well, I expect Todd Reesing to have another Heisman-like performance in Week 12... as the Kansas Jayhawks defeat the Texas Longhorns, AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY, and improve to 10-1 on the season.

Winner: Kansas

Ohio State (9-1) @ Illinois (7-3)

It is SENIOR DAY in Champaign, Illinois... for the Fighting Illini!

Remember the meeting between these two teams last season?

On November 10 last season, the Illinois Fighting Illini went into Columbus, Ohio... and UPSET the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes, 28-21.

Well, after LOSING AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY, to the Fighting Illini, last season... the No. 10 Ohio State Buckeyes are looking for revenge.

Remember what the Illinois Fighting Illini did last season, AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY?

On November 17 last season, the Illinois Fighting Illini defeated Northwestern 41-22... AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY, to earn a trip to the Rose Bowl Game!

In addition, QB Juice Williams had a Heisman-like performance, completing 15 of 23 passes, throwing for 220 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 136 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries.

In the end, I expect the Fighting Illini to pull off the UPSET against the Ohio State Buckeyes for the second consecutive year!

Winner: Illinois

New Mexico State (6-3) @ Fresno State (6-3)

It is SENIOR DAY in Fresno, California... for the Fresno State Bulldogs!

Who would have thought that the New Mexico State Aggies would have the same record as the Fresno State Bulldogs heading into this matchup?

Yes, the New Mexico State Aggies are the surprise team in the WAC with a 6-3 record. However, New Mexico State will face a major test on the road in Week 12, as the Aggies travel to Fresno to take on the 6-3 Fresno State Bulldogs.

In fact, the New Mexico State Aggies are also looking for revenge... after LOSING AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY, to the Fresno State Bulldogs, 30-23, last season!

Remember what the Fresno State Bulldogs did last season, AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY?

On November 24 last season, the Fresno State Bulldogs defeated the Kansas State Wildcats, 45-29... AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY, to improve to 7-4 on the season. In fact, Fresno State also eliminated Kansas State from bowl contention!

In addition, QB Tom Brandstater completed 23 of 29 passes for a career-high 313 yards, and two touchdowns to Marlon Moore. Moreover, Marlon Moore caught nine passes for 134 yards.

Although New Mexico State has been a pleasant surprise this season, it must also be noted that the Aggies have NOT yet defeated a quality opponent... especially on the road! Therefore, I expect the Fresno State Bulldogs to defeat the New Mexico State Aggies... AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY, to improve to 7-3 on the season.

Winner: Fresno State

Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 12 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida 10-0 (defeated South Carolina)

2. Missouri 11-0 (defeated @ Iowa State)

3. Kansas 10-1 (defeated Texas)

4. Utah 11-0 (defeated @ San Diego State)

5. Texas Tech 10-0 (bye week)

6. Arizona State 9-1 (defeated Washington State)

7. Clemson 10-0 (defeated Duke)

8. Georgia 9-2 (defeated @ Auburn)

9. West Virginia 8-1 (bye week)

10. Boise State Broncos 10-0 (defeated @ Idaho)

Dropped out: No. 7 USC 8-2 (LOST to @ Stanford), No. 10 Ohio State 9-2 (LOST to @ Illinois)

Stay tuned! Part 13 of Jimson's 2008 College Football Series will be released on Sunday, July 27, 2008 :)

Jimson Cuenta's 2008 College Football Series: Part 11

Here is a recap of Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 10 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida Gators 8-0

2. Missouri Tigers 9-0

3. Texas Tech Red Raiders 9-0

4. Kansas Jayhawks 8-1

5. Utah Utes 9-0

6. Arizona State Sun Devils 7-1

7. USC Trojans 7-1

8. Clemson Tigers 8-0

9. West Virginia Mountaineers 7-1

10. Ohio State Buckeyes 8-1

Now, it's time to move on to week 11 of the 2008 college football season.

Key Games in Week 11:

Kansas (8-1) @ Nebraska (6-3)

The number four Kansas Jayhawks travel to Lincoln in week 11 as the Jayhawks face the Nebraska Cornhuskers in their final road test during the 2008 college football season.

On November 3, 2007, the Kansas Jayhawks crushed the Nebraska Cornhuskers 76-39 in Lawrence, Kansas, to improve to 9-0. In addition, Todd Reesing had a Heisman-like performance that day!

Well, I expect Todd Reesing to have another Heisman-like performance in week 11 as the Kansas Jayhawks defeat the Nebraska Cornhuskers for the third time in four years and improve to 9-1 on the season.

Winner: Kansas

Nevada (6-2) @ Fresno State (5-3)

Well, both of these teams struggled very early in the season. The Fresno State Bulldogs got off to a 1-3 start while the Nevada Wolf Pack got off to a 1-2 start.

In fact, both the Fresno State Bulldogs and the Nevada Wolf Pack had high hopes heading into the 2008 College Football season.

In fact, the Fresno State Bulldogs had their sights set on a possible BCS Bowl berth. However, three losses in the non-conference part of their schedule (albeit against decent competition—at Rutgers, Wisconsin, and @ UCLA) erased any hopes for a BCS Bowl berth for the Fresno State Bulldogs.

On the other hand, the Nevada Wolf Pack had their sights set on a possible 10-win season. However, Nevada lost two games very early in the season (albeit against elite Big 12 competition—Texas Tech and at Missouri).

In fact, both the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Missouri Tigers are still undefeated and ranked in the top three!

Fortunately, both the Fresno State Bulldogs and the Nevada Wolf Pack have salvaged their 2008 seasons as Nevada takes a five-game winning streak into this WAC showdown, while Fresno State enters this showdown with a four-game winning streak.

Both of these teams are still in contention for the WAC Title. What's more is that both of these teams are actually undefeated in the WAC!

However, something has to give in this WAC showdown. In the end, I expect the Fresno State Bulldogs to hold serve at home and extend their winning streak to five games while at the same time putting an end to Nevada's five-game winning streak.

Winner: Fresno State

Hawaii (0-9) @ New Mexico State (5-3)

What a difference one season makes! The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors come into this game as the one remaining winless team in the FBS, with an 0-9 record. Meanwhile the New Mexico State Aggies come into this game already surpassing their win total from last season with a 5-3 record!

Look for the Rainbow Warriors to continue their struggles this season as the New Mexico State Aggies hold serve at home to improve to 6-3 on the season.

In fact, the New Mexico State Aggies continue to be the pleasant surprise team of the WAC! Who would have thought that New Mexico State would have the same record as both Nevada and Fresno State at this point in the season?

Oh, by the way, New Mexico State has a road test against Fresno State in week 12. So, we will find out (very soon) whether or not New Mexico State is for real.

Winner: New Mexico State

Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 11 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida 9-0 (defeated @ Vanderbilt)

2. Missouri 10-0 (defeated Kansas State)

3. Texas Tech 10-0 (defeated Oklahoma State)

4. Kansas 9-1 (defeated @ Nebraska)

5. Utah 10-0 (defeated TCU)

6. Arizona State 8-1 (defeated @ Washington)

7. USC 8-1 (defeated California)

8. Clemson 9-0 (defeated @ Florida State)

9. West Virginia 8-1 (defeated Cincinnati)

10. Ohio State 9-1 (defeated @ Northwestern)

Stay tuned! Part 12 of Jimson's 2008 College Football Series will be released on Thursday, July 24, 2008 :)

Jimson Cuenta's 2008 College Football Series: Part 7

Here is a recap of Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 6 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida Gators 5-0

2. Kansas Jayhawks 5-0

3. USC Trojans 4-0

4. Missouri Tigers 5-0

5. West Virginia Mountaineers 5-0

6. Oklahoma Sooners 5-0

7. Texas Longhorns 5-0

8. Georgia Bulldogs 4-1

9. Utah Utes 6-0

10. Clemson Tigers 5-0

Now it's time to move on to Week 7 of the 2008 College Football season.

Key Games in Week 7:

Texas (5-0) vs. Oklahoma (5-0) (in Dallas, Texas)

Last season, BOTH the Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners headed into the Red River Showdown coming off a loss the previous week.

This season, these two teams head into the Red River Showdown as UNDEFEATED teams, each ranked in the Top Seven.

In addition, the Texas Longhorns will have revenge on their mind after losing 28-21 to the Oklahoma Sooners at the Cotton Bowl last season.

In the end, I expect this showdown to be decided on the final possession...just like it was last season. However, I also see the Texas Longhorns getting revenge.

Winner: Texas

Arizona State (4-1) @ USC (4-0)

This Pac-10 showdown features two teams, each ranked in the Top 12, as the No. 12 Arizona State Sun Devils travel to Los Angeles to face the No. 3 USC Trojans.

The USC Trojans head into this game with a lot of momentum and an UNDEFEATED record. In addition, the Trojans already have several big wins under their belt this season. The most notable one, of course, is the victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 3 of the season.

On the other hand, the Arizona State Sun Devils head into this game coming off a huge win over the California Golden Bears at Berkeley AFTER failing their first major test of the season by losing to the Georgia Bulldogs AT HOME.

In addition, Rudy Carpenter and the Sun Devils will be looking for payback after losing 44-24 to the USC Trojans AT HOME last season.

I expect senior QB Rudy Carpenter to play with a greater sense of urgency, against USC this season...because he knows that this will be his final chance to beat the Trojans.

Although the USC Trojans have an incredible home field advantage, I think that Rudy Carpenter will do just enough and lead the Arizona State Sun Devils to a huge road victory over the USC Trojans.

In addition, during the 2006 and 2007 College Football seasons, the USC Trojans have stumbled along the way. I just have a feeling that this will be the game in which USC stumbles this season.

Winner: Arizona State

Louisiana Tech (2-2) @ Hawaii (0-5)

Remember the meeting between these two teams last season?

"On September 8th of last season, Hawaii needed overtime to defeat Derek Dooley’s Bulldogs in week two. In the first overtime, Dooley decided to go for two, figuring it would be next to impossible to keep Colt Brennan from scoring again. This was a decision reminiscent of Boise State’s in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. Unfortunately, the pass for conversion was deflected and the Warriors escaped with a 45-44 win."

It became FAMOUS... after SO MANY people DEFENDED Hawaii's OVERTIME victory over Louisiana Tech on MY "BCS Championship: Why Kansas Should Be In, LSU Should Be Out" article:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/5617-bcs-championship-why-kansas-should-be-in-lsu-should-be-out

But seriously—the Rainbow Warriors, with Heisman finalist Colt Brennan, NEEDED OVERTIME to win over Louisiana Tech in Week 2 last season.

Now that Hawaii is without Brennan, I am wondering if Hawaii can even get to overtime in this season's meeting against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. In addition, Hawaii lost their top three wide receivers and best offensive lineman.

Moreover, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are VERY WELL RESTED, as the Bulldogs play only their fourth game in a time period of just over 36 days.

In fact, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs had THREE consecutive periods of AT LEAST 10 days rest (13 days rest between the @ Kansas and Southeastern Louisiana games, 10 days rest between the Southeastern Louisiana and @ Boise State games, and 10 days rest between the @ Boise State and @ Hawaii games).

Either way, I see Louisiana Tech using this incredible amount of rest to their advantage, making it factor into the outcome of this game, as Louisiana Tech will beat Hawaii.

The post-Colt Brennan era has gotten off to a very bad start as the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors fall to 0-6 on the 2008 season. The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will improve to 3-2, as things have gotten very ugly in a hurry for Hawaii!

Winner: Louisiana Tech

Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 7 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida 6-0 (defeated LSU)

2. Kansas 6-0 (defeated Colorado)

3. Missouri 6-0 (defeated Oklahoma State)

4. Texas 6-0 (defeated Oklahoma)

5. West Virginia 6-0 (defeated Syracuse)

6. Georgia 5-1 (defeated Tennessee)

7. Utah 7-0 (defeated @ Wyoming)

8. Texas Tech 6-0 (defeated Nebraska)

9. Clemson 6-0 (defeated @ Wake Forest)

10. Arizona State 5-1 (defeated @ USC)

Dropped out: #3 USC 4-1 (LOST to Arizona State), #6 Oklahoma 5-1 (LOST to Texas)

Stay tuned! A SPECIAL "Jimson's 20th birthday" EDITION for Part 8 of Jimson's 2008 College Football Series will be released on Saturday, July 12, 2008 :)

Jimson Cuenta's 2008 College Football Series: Part 6

Here is a recap of Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 5 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida Gators 4-0

2. Kansas Jayhawks 4-0

3. USC Trojans 3-0

4. Missouri Tigers 4-0

5. West Virginia Mountaineers 4-0

6. Georgia Bulldogs 4-1

7. Oklahoma Sooners 4-0

8. Texas Longhorns 4-0

9. Clemson Tigers 5-0

10. Utah Utes 5-0

Now, it's time to move on to Week 6 of the 2008 College Football season.

Key Games in Week 6:

Ohio State (4-1) @ Wisconsin (4-0)

This Big Ten showdown features two teams, each ranked in the Top 15... as the #13 Ohio State Buckeyes travel to Madison, to take on the #12 Wisconsin Badgers.

The Wisconsin Badgers head into this game with a lot of momentum, and an UNDEFEATED record. In addition, the Badgers are coming off a huge road win, in Ann Arbor, against the Michigan Wolverines, in Week Five.

On the other hand, the Ohio State Buckeyes head into this game with a 2-game winning streak... AFTER failing their first road test of the season, by losing at USC.

However, in the end, the winner of this prime-time showdown at Camp Randall will have the early advantage, in the Big Ten race. Unfortuately, I just cannot see Ohio State losing TWO games THIS EARLY in the season.

Winner: Ohio State

Kansas (4-0) @ Iowa State (2-2)

The #2 Kansas Jayhawks travel to Ames, in Week 6... as the Jayhawks face the Iowa State Cyclones, their first in-Conference foe this season.

On November 17th last season, the Kansas Jayhawks CRUSHED the Iowa State Cyclones 45-7... AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY, to improve to 11-0. In addition, Todd Reesing had a Heisman-like performance that day!

Well, I expect Todd Reesing to have another Heisman-like performance in Week 6... as the Kansas Jayhawks defeat the Iowa State Cyclones for the fourth year in a row, and improve to 5-0 on the season.

Winner: Kansas

Hawaii (0-4) @ Fresno State (1-3)

At this point of the season, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and the Fresno State Bulldogs have been the disappointments in the WAC.

The Fresno State Bulldogs had high hopes, heading into the 2008 College Football season. In fact, the Bulldogs had their sights set on a possible BCS Bowl berth. However, three losses in the non-Conference part of their schedule (albeit against decent competition - @ Rutgers, Wisconsin, and @ UCLA)... erased any hopes for a BCS Bowl berth, for the Fresno State Bulldogs.

Fortunately, the Fresno State Bulldogs can still salvage their season. In fact, the Bulldogs can still compete for the WAC Title.

On the other hand, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors are struggling in the season after earning a berth in the Sugar Bowl. In fact, the Rainbow Warriors are still WINLESS this season.

Look for the Rainbow Warriors to continue their struggles this season... as the Fresno State Bulldogs hold serve at home, and earn a huge victory that can potentially turn their season around.

Winner: Fresno State

Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 6 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida 5-0 (defeated @ Arkansas)

2. Kansas 5-0 (defeated @ Iowa State)

3. USC 4-0 (defeated Oregon)

4. Missouri 5-0 (defeated @ Nebraska)

5. West Virginia 5-0 (defeated Rutgers)

6. Oklahoma 5-0 (defeated @ Baylor)

7. Texas 5-0 (defeated @ Colorado)

8. Georgia 4-1 (bye week)

9. Utah 6-0 (defeated Oregon State)

Jimson Cuenta's 2008 College Football Series: Part 5

Here is a recap of Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 4 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida Gators 3-0

2. Kansas Jayhawks 4-0

3. USC Trojans 2-0

4. Missouri Tigers 4-0

5. West Virginia Mountaineers 3-0

6. Georgia Bulldogs 3-1

7. Oklahoma Sooners 3-0

8. Texas Longhorns 4-0

9. Clemson Tigers 4-0

10. Texas Tech Red Raiders 4-0

Now, it's time to move on to Week 5 of the 2008 College Football season.

Key Games in Week 5:

Mississippi State (3-1) @ LSU (3-1)

This SEC West showdown features two teams, who are on a roll... after suffering crushing non-conference defeats in Week One of the College Football season, when the Mississippi State Bulldogs lost at Louisiana Tech, and the LSU Tigers lost AT HOME, to Appalachian State.

Now, both teams are heading into this game with a 3-game winning streak. In fact, both of these teams are coming off huge victories. LSU is coming of a very big road win, at Auburn, in Week 4.

On the other hand, Mississippi State is coming off TWO huge victories... First, holding serve at home, against Auburn, in Week 3. Then, the Bulldogs travelled to Georgia Tech... where they left with a very nice road win.

Now, the Mississippi State Bulldogs travel to Tiger Stadium... where both teams are looking to build on this positive momentum. In fact, the winner of this early season showdown will be in the driver seat in the SEC West race.

Last season, the LSU Tigers CRUSHED the Mississippi State Bulldogs 45-0. Unfortunately, I just do not expect the Bulldogs can make up 45 points, in the span of one year. Therefore, look for LSU to win this game.

Winner: LSU

Weber State (4-0) @ Utah (4-0)

Wow, who would have guessed that both of these teams would be 4-0, heading into this Week 5 matchup?

Yes, this FCS vs. MWC showdown features two surprising UNDEFEATED teams... as Weber State travels to Utah, to take on the #11 Utah Utes.

Weber State already has a huge victory, over an FBS team, this season. On September 7th, Weber State defeated the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. However, it should also be noted that Weber State opened the season playing Montana-Western AT HOME, on August 28th!

On the other hand, the Utah Utes have played far tougher competition than Weber State. Utah has only played 4 games, so far, this season... but the Utes have been tested very well. In fact, the Utah Utes have already played THREE games on the road... and TWO of those road games presented REAL CHALLENGES.

In Week 1, the Utes travelled to Ann Arbor, to take on the Michigan Wolverines... and left the Big House, with a huge road win. Last week, the Utah Utes earned another huge road win, by beating the Air Force Falcons. Hence, the Utah Utes are ranked #11.

But in the end, I expect the Utah Utes to CRUSH Weber State... by AT LEAST SEVEN TOUCHDOWNS, to improve to 5-0 on the 2008 College Football season, and possibly move into the Top 10.

Winner: Utah

San Jose State (2-2) @ Hawaii (0-3)

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors will be coming into this game fresh off a bye week and 14 days rest, while San Jose State comes off a loss at Stanford.

On October 12th last season, the Rainbow Warriors, with Heisman finalist Colt Brennan, had to overcome a 14-point deficit... and NEEDED OVERTIME to defeat the San Jose State Spartans. Now that Hawaii is without Brennan, I am wondering if Hawaii can even get this game, against San Jose State, into OVERTIME.

Either way, the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors are not going to win this game... IF they get down by at least 14 points. I just do not know how they can come back from that deficit, WITHOUT Colt Brennan.

Look for the San Jose State Spartans to win this game, and continue their alternating win-loss-win pattern, to improve to 3-2 on the season... while the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors remain WINLESS, falling to 0-4 on the season.

Winner: San Jose State

Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 5 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida 4-0 (defeated Mississippi)

2. Kansas 4-0 (bye week)

3. USC 3-0 (defeated @ Oregon State)

4. Missouri 4-0 (bye week)

5. West Virginia 4-0 (defeated Marshall)

6. Georgia 4-1 (defeated Alabama)

7. Oklahoma 4-0 (defeated TCU)

8. Texas 4-0 (bye week)

9. Clemson 5-0 (defeated Maryland)

10. Utah Utes 5-0 (defeated Weber State)

Dropped out: #10 Texas Tech Red Raiders 4-0 (bye week)

Stay tuned! Part 6 of Jimson's 2008 College Football Series will be released on Sunday, July 6, 2008 :)

Jimson Cuenta's 2008 College Football Series: Part 1

This is Jimson's Preseason Top 10 for the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida Gators (2007 season: 9-4 overall, 6-2 SEC East)

2. Georgia Bulldogs (2007 season: 11-2 overall, 6-2 SEC East)

3. Kansas Jayhawks (2007 season: 12-1 overall, 7-1 Big 12 North, Orange Bowl Champions)

4. Ohio State Buckeyes (2007 season: 11-2 overall, 7-1 Big Ten, Big Ten Champions)

5. USC Trojans (2007 season: 11-2 overall, 7-2 Pac 10, Pac 10 Champions)

6. West Virginia Mountaineers (2007 season: 11-2 overall, 5-2 Big East, Big East Champions)

7. Oklahoma Sooners (2007 season: 11-3 overall, 7-2 Big 12 South, Big 12 Champions)

8. Missouri Tigers (2007 season: 12-2 overall, 7-2 Big 12 North)

9. Texas Longhorns (2007 season: 10-3 overall, 5-3 Big 12 South)

10. Clemson Tigers (2007 season: 9-4 overall, 5-3 ACC Atlantic)

Okay, let's move on to Week 1 of the 2008 College Football season.

Key Games of Week 1:

Alabama vs. Clemson (in Atlanta, Georgia)

Arguably the game of the week, this ACC vs. SEC showdown features two teams, each with the potential to win their respective divisions.

The Clemson Tigers begin the 2008 College Football season, in the same manner that they finished the 2007 College Football season - playing an SEC West foe, in the Georgia Dome.

Unfortunately, in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl... Tommy Bowden (once again) FAILED to TAKE GOOD CARE OF HIS OWN BUSINESS, as his Clemson Tigers LOST to the Auburn Tigers, 23-20, in OVERTIME!!!

However, Tommy Bowden hopes to make 2008 the year, in which he FINALLY takes BETTER care of his own business. Bowden takes a step in this direction, as his Clemson Tigers defeat the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Winner: Clemson

Missouri vs. Illinois (in St. Louis, Missouri)

Once again, these two teams clash in Week 1 of the College Football season. Last season's meeting between these two teams was an instant classic, as the Missouri Tigers held on, and defeat the Illinois Fighting Illini, 40-34.

However, the Illinois Fighting Illini are faced with the loss of Rashard Mendenhall... while the Missouri Tigers essentially return everyone from its 2007 team, which finished the season with a 12-2 record, and Cotton Bowl victory.

With that being said, look for the Missouri Tigers to come away with a convincing win over the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Winner: Missouri

Appalachian State @ LSU

Last season, the Appalachian State Mountaineers SHOCKED THE WORLD, by UPSETTING the Michigan Wolverines, 34-32 in Ann Arbor, during Week 1 of the College Football season.

This season, the Appalachian State Mountaineers will SHOCK THE WORLD, AGAIN... This time, by UPSETTING the LSU Tigers, AT Tiger Stadium.

Winner: Appalachian State

Jimson's Top 10 Standings After Week 1 of the 2008 College Football season:

1. Florida 1-0 (defeated Hawaii)

2. Georgia 1-0 (defeated Ga. Southern)

3. Kansas 1-0 (defeated Florida International)

4. Ohio State 1-0 (defeated Youngstown State)

5. USC 1-0 (defeated @ Virginia)

6. West Virginia 1-0 (defeated Villanova)

7. Oklahoma 1-0 (defeated Chattanooga)

8. Missouri 1-0 (defeated Illinois)

9. Texas 1-0 (defeated Florida Atlantic)

10. Clemson 1-0 (defeated Alabama)

Stay tuned! Part 2 of Jimson's 2008 College Football series will be released on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 :)

The Bleacher's Mathematical Proof of the Year

An aspiring and very talented mathematician, my lifetime goal is to solve the Riemann Hypothesis, a very famous and important unsolved problem in the subject of mathematics.

(The Clay Mathematics Institute has offered a prize of $1,000,000 to the person who provides the first correct solution to the Riemann Hypothesis)

But for right now, I am going to use math to prove something of much lesser importance than the Riemann Hypothesis. Today, I am use math to prove that there are millions of people in the United States who believe that Kansas should have been ranked No. 1.

By the way, I am probably not going to be awarded any prize money for proving this. However, I could really care less about that. In fact, I'm just going to go ahead, and start my proof.

Problem:

Are there at least two million people in the United States, who believe that the Kansas Jayhawks should have been ranked No. 1?

The following 3 statements are facts:

1. 60 of 60 coaches did NOT place Kansas No. 1 in the Final USA Today Coaches Poll.

2. 64 of 65 AP voters did NOT place Kansas No. 1 in the Final Associated Press (AP) Poll.

3. The population of the United States is about 300 million (300,000,000) people.

My Conjecture:

Given these 3 facts, I can prove that there are millions of people in the United States who believe that Kansas should have been ranked No. 1.

PROOF:

1. As stated in the FACTS above, 60 out of 60 coaches, and 64 out of 65 AP voters did NOT place Kansas No. 1 in the Final Polls.

2. By adding these numbers up, 124 out of 125 voters did NOT place Kansas No. 1 in the Final Polls.

3. However, by taking the complement of the statement, "124 out of 125 voters did NOT place Kansas No. 1 in the Final Polls," that statement is equivalent to saying this statement: "one out of 125 voters DID place Kansas in the Final Polls."

4. Now, by converting "one out of 125" into decimal form, one out of 125 = .008 (or eight-tenths of 1 percent).

5. As stated in the FACTS above, the population of the United States is about 300 million (300,000,000) people.

6. Now, use the assumption that about one out of EVERY 125 people would place Kansas No. 1 in the Final Polls (provided by the sample of the 60 coaches and the 65 AP voters).

7. Therefore, the number of people in the United States who believe that Kansas SHOULD have been ranked No. 1 is about:

300,000,000 * .008 = 2,400,000 (or 2.4 million)

Conclusion:

I have just proven that my conjecture was true, as there are about 2.4 million (2,400,000) people in the United States who believe that Kansas should have been ranked No. 1.

Q. E. D.

[Author's NOTE: I originally provided a PROOF of this when I was responding to a comment made on my article "BCS Championship: Why Kansas Should Be In, LSU Should Be Out" on Saturday, May 31, 2008. In fact, I was so impressed by my proof that I decided to make an article out of it.]

BCS Championship: If LSU Wins, Will There Be a Split National Championship?

If the LSU Tigers beat the Ohio State Buckeyes in the BCS National Championship Game on Monday night, then the Kansas Jayhawks may win a share of the title.

Here is an argument for why there may be a SPLIT National Championship between Kansas and LSU, if the Tigers win the BCS National Championship Game on Monday night:

Kansas only lost one game this season—to the 12-2 Missouri Tigers.

On the other hand, LSU lost two games this season—both to five-loss teams.

In fact, one of LSU's losses was at home, on senior day, to the Arkansas Razorbacks.

The Arkansas Razorbacks are a sucky team—they were crushed by the aforementioned Missouri Tigers 38-7 in the Cotton Bowl on Tuesday!

BCS Championship: Why Kansas Should Be In, LSU Should Be Out

On Monday, January 7, the LSU Tigers will take the field against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the BCS Championship Game.

However, I believe that the LSU Tigers did NOT earn their way into the National Championship game.

Although my opinion may be biased because I'm a fan of the Kansas Jayhawks, I honestly think that KU SHOULD be playing Ohio State for all the marbles.

Here's why:

The Kansas Jayhawks started the season with an 11-0 record, and only lost ONE game during the ENTIRE 2007 College Football season.

Kansas' ONLY loss came against the Missouri Tigers, who finished the 2007 season with a 12-2 record. However, the Jayhawks won the rest of their games, and finished the 2007 season with a 12-1 record, topping it off with an Orange Bowl victory over Virginia Tech.

What's more, Kansas won seven of its games by AT LEAST 32 points. This means that the 2007 Kansas Jayhawks won MORE THAN HALF of their games by AT LEAST 32 points.

On the other hand, the LSU Tigers have TWO losses on the season. LSU lost BOTH games to teams that finished the 2007 season with 8-5 records. No, that's NOT a misprint—LSU LOST to not one, but TWO 5-loss teams.

In addition, one of LSU's losses was AT HOME, on SENIOR DAY, against the Arkansas Razorbacks, on the DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING.

The Arkansas Razorbacks are a VERY BAD team. They were BLOWN OUT by the aforementioned Missouri Tigers, 38-7, on Tuesday in the Cotton Bowl.

What I've presented here are the FACTS. It's up to you, the reader, to decide for yourself if LSU really does BELONG in the BCS National Championship Game.
