The Battle for the Governors Cup

The Chiefs take the Governors Cup back with a 21-17 preseason win over the Rams.

It was a good game for the Chiefs even though the Rams didn't play many of they're starters, and the Chiefs didn't play stars such as Tony Gonzalez, Larry Johnson, and Branden Albert.

Not much to take from this game, but you can't normally from the 4th preseason games.

Linebackers

Edwards and Harris are a little rusty but they shook some of that off Thursday against the Rams. Its key for the Chiefs to keep these linebackers healthy and in shape for the regular season. I don't think Chiefs fans have to worry about Derrick Johnson because he is healthy and in his prime.

Secondary

DaJuan Morgan did great! He had six tackles, one int, and one pass deflection. I like what he brings to the table and I think the Chiefs will use him well.

I think Flowers will be the one to watch in the secondary this year though, he's shown us some of his skills and im impressed with what he's done so far.

Full Back

Its a weird position to talk about but im loving Mike Cox. He is a great guy to dump the ball off to. He looks more like a TE and O-lineman combined with some decent speed. He only caught six balls in preseason but he caught them for 64 yards.

Running Game

I know the Rams didn't have all their starters in but the Chiefs running game was great. Battle rushed for 55 yards on nine attempts for 6.1 yards a carry. Smith rushed for 38 yards on six attempts—6.3 yards a carry. Charles rushed for 43 yards with six attempts—7.2 yards a carry. They rushed for 157 yards with a average of 4.0 yards a carry all without Larry (I included the rushes by the QB's also, without the QB's it would be 4.9 yards a carry).

Cuts

I've been saying this for a long, long time to get rid of Bobby Sippio, and I think Herm heard me. I also hated Will Svitek and I'm so glad he's gone.

I hope the Chiefs choose their kicker well because Nick Novak is the kicker for the Chiefs now.

Heres the list of the players with their position that were cut by the Chiefs:

Anthony Alabi(T), Michael Allan(TE), Jabari Arthur(WR),Rashad Barksdale(CB), Connor Barth(K), Khayyam Burns(S), Johnny Dingle(DE), Edwin Harrison(G), Sergiori Joachim(WR), E.J. Kuale(LB), Travis Leffew(G), Derek Lokey(DT), Chris Manderino(FB), Kevin McMahan(WR), Steve Octavien(LB), Jason Parker(DE), LeRue Rumph(LB), Bobby Sippio(WR), Rob Smith(C), Tre Stallings(G), and Will Svitek(T).

Thanks for reading and I appreciate any comments!

Kansas City Chiefs Showing Their Stuff in Preseason

What a game for the Kansas City Chiefs! It was a loss but I look at as if your starters do what they were planning to do in pre-season games then thats a win.

Rushing: The Chiefs wanted to come into this game and run the ball, and thats exactly what they did, rushing for 145 yards total. Running back Larry Johnson looked like the old L.J. again rushing for 61 yards carrying the ball 14 times.

Kolby Smith is exactly what the Chiefs are wanting him to be, fresh legs. Smith touched the ball only 4 times but rushed for 37 yards, also catching 2 passes for 10 yards. The guy I really want to talk about is Dantrell Savage, he is a fun guy to watch.

Savage at only 5'8" 182 pounds runs the ball like he's 6'7" and made of metal. This guy is named well because he IS a savage. He is HARD to bring down and doesn't stop fighting for extra yards even when it looks like the play is dead, then some how turns it into something exciting.

Coach Edwards loves the guy and so do I. The Chiefs now have a 4 headed monster in the backfield with Johnson, Charles, Smith, and Savage, all that bring something different to the table.

Secondary: The secondary was put to the test today and did great! Boldin never caught a pass and held Fitzgerald to 4 catches but gave up a 22 yard play.

Flowers was very impressing, he did a great job on stopping the run and did great on the man to man coverage with Fitzgerald and Boldin, he also had a great deflection against Boldin, making it 2 deflections in the game.

D-Line: This is what I want to see. RE: Tamba Hali DT: Glenn Dorsey DT: Alfonso Boone LE: Turk McBride. Dorsey played a few downs and the Cards double teamed him the whole time, thats what I like to see.

McBride ended up with 2 sacks and he only play in some of the 1st half. Boone is better at the DT position and Hali will be a better blind side rusher(if the QB's are right handed of course) at RE. This will help the linebackers flourish.

I really wish all the starters were in. Donnie Edwards-OLB and Napoleon Harris-MLB were both out and lets just say the back ups aren't as good. Albert hopefully will be back soon but the O-line is holding up pretty well without him.

Tyler Thigpen: He will be the back up QB and has shown some promise. He fallows his receivers alot and makes plays for the defense. Even though the int was half his fault he still needs practice to avoid these rookie mistakes.

Bobby Sippio: I can't believe the media can make someone so worthless look so good. He helped Thigpen throw an int by tipping it into the air, he dropped a ball that wasn't thrown hard at all and hit him straight in the hands, and he only had one reception for 6 yards. This guy needs to be cut.

Thanks for reading and appreciate any comments.

Brett Favre—The Name Heard Too Many Times

Just now I'm watching the NFL Network and they're talking about Favre. Now I change the channel to ESPN, and guess what, they're talking about Favre, too.

I've just heard that Favre is a Jet. Great...now we will hear his name twice as much.

Even my mom, who doesn't know a thing about football, is complaining that on CNN they are talking about Favre too much. Now, when my mom is complaining about a football player I had no idea that she even knew, then that's bad.

Since he came out of retirement I have heard his name maybe 100 times a day at the least. Please, ESPN, ESPN 2, SportsCenter, PTI, Around the Horn, Jim Rome Is Burning, FSN, and even CNN—stop talking about Favre! No one cares and the fact that every channel plays the same thing every day now is so annoying.

I liked Favre until now. I can't wait for him to retire so we can stop saying his name. Even after that he will come out of retirement yet again and have a baby fight with the Jets. He was only good last year because of the weapons the Packers brought him.

For my last words I would like to say one thing to Brett: Retire.

Thank you for reading!

Always,
