Texas vs. FAU: Upset in the Making?

The Texas Longhorns take on the FAU Owls August 30th.

Of course most people think the Texas Longhorns will blow out the Owls, which might be true, but it might not be. Here are three reasons which show FAU has a chance and three chances showing that they will be blown out.

Positive

Rusty Smith

He is a 6'5 212 lb. QB machine who threw for 3,688 yards last year with 32 TD and 9 INT. If you do not think those are killer stats then I don't know what's wrong with you. He has good receivers which can tear the Texas secondary apart.

Howard Schnellenberger

He is a very experienced coach who knows what he is doing. He has led this team from being no one to someone. He has won four National Championships so he is not worried about pressure and he even has some NFL experience.

Turnovers

Their defense is a force to be reckoned with. Last season, their turnover margin was at 1.38 which was the sixth best in the NCAA. They also have returning starting CB Tavious Polo who had seven interceptions last year.

Negative

Returning Starters

They only have eight returning starters which will show the lack of experience against the teams they have to face this year.

Lack of experience

FAU is not used to playing teams like Texas and they defiantly are not used to beating them since they play in the Sun Belt Conference. We will see if they show up to this game.

RB situation

The rushing offense was not good at ALL. Their RB Charles Pierre only had 782 yards last season which isn't the best. Their rushing offense only averaged 126 yards last year which was the 93rd worst in the NCAA and sixth worst in the Sun Belt.

Well those are my ideas of the upcoming Texas vs. FAU game so give me your opinion.

Texas Longhorns Doubters Take Notice: This Team Could Go Far

There are a lot of doubters out there about the Texas Longhorns this season. Well, I'm going to try and make you doubters into believers.

The Longhorns are returning 19 starters, including quarterback Colt McCoy and wideouts Quan Cosby and Jordan Shipley. The Longhorns do lack some experience at the safety position and offensive line, but I think they will surprise everyone this year with their talent. With the addition of Will Muschamp and Major Applewhite, they will put this squad in check and show them what a national championship team needs to look like.

Expect the defense to have a fantastic year like in 2005, when the Longhorns won the national title. I think Colt will have more of his freshman-type year than sophomore-type because of the experience of Quan and Jordan and the new deep threat, Dan Buckner.

The one weakness that scares me is the running back situation; not saying the Longhorns don't have talent there, just throwing the idea out that the they might have a problem with it. I do expect to see Fozzy Whittaker take a lot of snaps with Vondrell Mcgee, which can be a dynamic duo. The Longhorns do play some tough teams this year, which might be a challenge, but if the Longhorns want to be a national championship-type team again they need to beat everyone in their way.

So sit back and get ready for this upcoming football season and expect some big things from the Texas Longhorns.
