Week 13 Start & Sit: Start Your San Diego Super Chargers

Working near Cleveland, I deal with a lot of Browns fans on a daily basis. They are a pretty resilient group for the most part, but these certainly are trying times for the Dawg Pound.

One Browns fan gave me a piece of advice yesterday for this weekend’s Browns-Chargers game: Start all of your Chargers in fantasy leagues.

Sounds reasonable, right?

It makes a lot of sense. The Browns are…well…awful this season. No offense, no defense and one superstar—Josh Cribbs—on special teams. Cribbs is the lone bright spot on what has become a fantasy football black hole in northeast Ohio.

Heed his advice my friends. Start any and all Chargers worth starting this weekend in fantasy leagues. It should be a stat-padding Sunday for San Diego.

A few injury updates before start and sit advice for Week 13:

DeSean Jackson, WR, Eagles

Despite claiming earlier this week that he does not think he could play this weekend, the Eagles have yet to declare Jackson officially out for this weekend’s game. Kind of surprising given what the Eagles have been through already this season with Brian Westbrook’s concussions.

Kurt Warner, QB, Cardinals

Looks like a game-time decision , kiddos. Make sure to have a backup plan in place Sunday morning as the Cardinals-Vikings play Sunday night on NBC. If you want to wait out Warner, it would be a great idea to add Matt Leinart right now.

DeAngelo Williams, RB, Panthers

Williams has missed a couple of practices this week but the Panthers expect him to play on Sunday against Tampa Bay. If he cannot go, however, Jonathan Stewart would be a great start.

Start ‘em

Quarterbacks

Joe Flacco @ Packers
Flacco and the Ravens got a big win against Pittsburgh last weekend and look to stay hot against the Packers.

Alex Smith @ Seahawks
Yeah, I mentioned Smith yesterday in this week’s Desperation Plug-and-Plays . Again, I think he should be a good start.

Running Backs

Matt Forte v. Rams
Finally, a matchup Forte should exploit, and just in time for desperate Forte owners. Hopefully y’all still have a chance to get in the playoffs.

Knowshon Moreno @ Chiefs
The rookie played strong against a once-heralded defense last Thursday and gets a favorable draw this Sunday in KC.

Wide Receivers

Chad OchoCinco v. Lions
He has struggled lately. But nothing heals a struggling fantasy player quite like the Detroit Lions’ defense.

Steve Smith v. Buccaneers
New Carolina quarterback Matt Moore should be able to understand this one important thing: Get the ball to Smith.

Tight End

Jason Witten @ Giants
There was an Antonio Gates sighting in the end zone last weekend (two TDs). This weekend, it could be Witten’s turn.

Sit ‘em

Quarterbacks

Drew Brees @ Redskins
OK, no one really is going to bench Brees. But this could be a downer against one of the league’s best pass defenses.

Matt Cassel v. Broncos
The Broncos got back on track last Thursday against the Giants and had a few extra days to prepare for the Chiefs this Sunday.

Running Backs

Brandon Jacobs v. Cowboys
Hard to trust Jacobs anymore, even harder to trust him if Ahmad Bradshaw is back in the lineup.

Tim Hightower/Beanie Wells v. Vikings
Hightower has the best chance of contributing via the passing game, but running the ball could prove difficult against a stout run D.

Wide Receivers

Calvin Johnson @ Bengals
Megatron is banged up and the Bengals surrender few fantasy points to wide receivers. Could be a recipe for disaster.

Greg Jennings v. Ravens
Hard to bench Jennings in such a high-powered offense, but the Ravens are going to try and limit the big-play and that is what Jennings brings to the table.

Tight End

Greg Olsen v. Rams
This is a personal vendetta. I started him over Vernon Davis the last two weeks and got eight points out of him. Y’all can have him from now on. I am done!

Rookie Wide Receivers Continue to Shine

Welcome back, I hope everyone had a superb Thanksgiving holiday.

We had two weeks of games to sift through since the last published Rookie Report . There were some solid performers, but I believe two rookies are head and shoulders above the rest.

1. Percy Harvin, WR, Vikings

Harvin has proven his critics wrong this season by contributing in all facets of the offense for the Vikings. Against the Bears he snared six passes for 101 yards and a score. He also contributed in the running game with two carries for 45 yards. His big-play ability is surpassed by no one.

2. Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos

Moreno had a solid game for the struggling Broncos. His 88 yards and a score helped the Broncos erase their four game losing streak to help keep their playoff hopes alive. Moreno is still splitting carries with running mate Correll Buckhalter, but he is still the man in Denver despite his fumbling problems.

3. Jeremy Maclin, WR, Eagles

Maclin did not find the end zone against the Redskins, but he caught five balls for 63 yards helping to prevent the Eagles from a devastating loss to the Redskins. Maclin continues to improve every week for the Eagles.

4. Austin Collie, WR, Colts

Collie leads all rookies with 43 receptions, but he has not caught a touchdown pass since week seven. If he does not want to be knocked out of the Top Five he needs to find pay dirt soon, as a few other rookies are ready to kick down the door.

5. Hakeem Nicks, WR, Giants

Nicks continues to be a solid performer for the Giants since he first burst on the scene with a 54-yard touchdown catch against the Chiefs in week four. He caught four balls for 66 yards in his team’s poor performance against the Broncos on Thanksgiving. Maybe the Giants should have waited until after the game to eat Turkey. The Giants will need Nicks big-play ability if they hope to right the ship and sneak into the playoffs.

Rookie rankings from two weeks ago :

1. Knowshon Moreno
2. Percy Harvin
3. Austin Collie
4. Jeremy Maclin
5. Mike Wallace

Daily Haze: Get Ready for Week 13 and Beyond

Blaine is off today as he heads up the Mississippi River to Memphis to run in the St. Jude 5K tomorrow morning. He and his wife made the trip up I-55 and I wish them the best of luck this weekend.

His absence, though, really makes me realize just how long it has been since I had to write a Friday Daily Haze on my own. Been a while, folks.

Anyway, onto the fantasy stories relevant for this weekend's game. This is an important weekend for fantasy owners hoping to lock up a postseason berth. Remember to take some chances if you are on the outside looking in as of right now. This could be the last meaningful weekend of fake football for you.

Next week at The Hazean will be playoff preparation week. Make sure to come back each day next week for playoff-relevant fantasy football information.

Good luck to all this weekend. Drop me a line via Twitter if you need some last-minute start/sit advice this weekend, and check back in an hour for our weekly start/sit feature .

Here are today's great reads:

Keep a watchful eye on all of these injuries this weekend. [FanHouse]

Hits and misses for this weekend's games. Drew Brees owners should not expect another five-touchdown performance this weekend. [The Fantasy Football Geek Blog]

More advice on who to start and sit this weekend , including another warning about Brees' fantasy outlook this weekend at Washington. [Roto Arcade]

How to avoid fantasy football disappointments in fantasy drafts next year. Matt Forte and Calvin Johnson have been two of this year's biggest letdowns. [Fantasy Football Fools]

If you already have an eye toward next season in dynasty and/or keeper leagues, consider adding some players with future potential while you still can. [No Offseason]

NFL Fantasy Football Week 13 Start and Sit: Jets-Bills Thursday Night Football

Hey! Fantasy owners! Remember that there is football on TV tonight.

Set your rosters!

The Thursday football schedule did not end with the three-course meal of pigskin served up by Thanksgiving Day last week. Rookie Mark Sanchez and the Jets travel to Toronto—yes, Toronto—to face Terrell Owens and the suddenly-found-some-offense Bills.

Chances are pretty good that postseason-bound or postseason-aspiring fantasy teams have a few players in this game tonight. For those aspiring to continue playing meaningful fake football, the end of the Bills’ offensive hibernation offers a few intriguing options.

Start ‘em

Thomas Jones, RB, Jets

Jones, despite his “old age,” continues to be a model of fantasy consistency. He should feast on a bad Bills run D.

Fred Jackson, RB, Bills

Now that Marshawn Lynch has proven to be a waste of space, Jackson should get the bulk of the work again.

Lee Evans, WR, Bills

Because Terrell Owens decided to earn his paycheck the last few weeks, he warrants more attention from the Jets’ pass D. That should free up some single coverage for Evans.

Sit ‘em

Terrell Owens, WR, Bills

He has been a beast of late, but Darrelle Revis has been beastly all season long. Revis is the new black among shutdown cornerbacks.

Mark Sanchez, QB, Jets

Is anyone trusting this rookie quarterback other than Rex Ryan these days? Only in deep two-quarterback leagues, I presume.

Marshawn Lynch, RB, Bills

As mentioned above, Lynch has done nothing except suppress Fred Jackson since returning from suspension. No longer according to the interim Bills regime.

NFL Fantasy Football Week 13 Desperation Plug-and-Plays

Fantasy owners who have not clinched a playoff berth yet find themselves up against a wall this weekend. Win, or watch your friends chase our fun little fake championships.

Injuries continue to ravage fantasy rosters. Concussions appear to be the injury du jour these days, sidelining quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers alike.

There is much for fantasy owners to weigh this weekend. If your team is plagued by the concussion bug or some other ailment, there may be some help on the waiver wire as a one-and-done start.

Potential Week 13 Plug-and-Plays

The players listed below are unowned in a majority of fantasy football leagues and have favorable matchups in week 13. Any one of these guys is worth a start this weekend for an in-need fantasy football owner.

Quarterbacks

Alex Smith @ Seahawks

Every time I gain confidence in Smith, he tends to post a fantasy clunker. Maybe not this week, eh?

Chris Redman v. Eagles

Sure, he filled in nicely for Matt Ryan against the Bucs. But the Eagles? For a desperate owner, it could be a gigantic risk/reward play.

Running Backs

Correll Buckhalter @ Chiefs

Buckhalter got 20 carries against the Giants. He failed to do much with them, but that could change against Kansas City’s D.

Cadillac Williams @ Panthers

Scored a touchdown last week despite low yardage output. His value is dependent on TDs, it appears, but worth the risk against a suspect run D.

Wide Receivers

Laveranues Coles v. Lions

Chad OchoCinco should rebound with a nice game here and Coles as well. The Lions are pretty generous.

Kenny Britt @ Colts

Vince Young and the Titans now have their biggest test of this five-game winning streak. Let’s see if VY and Britt are for real.

Tight Ends

Todd Heap @ Packers

This game kind of has an old school feel to it, and that could mean lots and lots of passes to tight ends.

Kickers

Kris Brown @ Jaguars

He still has the job in Houston, and the Texans like to score points. In this game, points should be plentiful.

DSTs

Bears DST v. Rams

Chances are good that Chicago’s unit has been cast aside in your fantasy league. Could be good for a one-week-only use.

Daily Haze: NFL Concussion Watch 2009

Bad news for fantasy owners, but great news for NFL players with head injuries: The NFL is enacting new measures each team must follow prior to a concussed player returning to game action.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear that these new rules will go into effect immediately, meaning all of the players recently affected by head injuries will be subject to the new measures.

Sure, this is not what fantasy owners in the thick of playoff races want to hear, but from a human standpoint, these players deserve the utmost care regarding head injuries. Every precaution that can be taken to guarantee their present and future health should be imposed without resistance.

The following players figure to be affected by the new concussion-related measures this weekend:

WR DeSean Jackson, Eagles

Jackson admits that he does not think he can play this weekend after blacking-out during the Washington game last week. The Eagles figure to be more cautious than any other team too, given what happened to Brian Westbrook earlier this year.

QB Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers

Many thought "Big Ben" would play last week (and some thought he should play), but he was told early in the week that he would not suit up. The Steelers will be extra cautious with Ben because of the pounding he usually takes over the course of a game, but it sounds like he will start this weekend.

QB Kurt Warner, Cardinals

Warner sounded overly optimistic he would play against the Titans last weekend, and we all saw how that worked out. He was benched in favor of Matt Leinart and could face the same fate again this weekend.

RB Clinton Portis, Redskins

Portis has been ruled out for Week 13 against the Saints, despite being medically cleared to play by a doctor. He sounds like a guy with his head on straight by taking the time to make sure his head is actually on straight.

RB Brian Westbrook, Eagles

Westbrook will not suit up again this weekend after suffering two concussions earlier this season. LeSean McCoy has filled in nicely during his absence.

RB Jamal Lewis, Browns

Not that any fantasy owner in contention is counting on "JLew" on a week-to-week basis, but Lewis has been shut down for the rest of the 2009 season due a concussion suffered last weekend. Lewis was planning on retiring at the end of the season so this news should only hasten his exit from the game.

Today's Great Reads

With Brian Westbrook out again this week, LeSean McCoy again is an excellent start for fantasy owners during a crucial weekend. (Fantasy Football Xtreme)

Vince Young looks like the real deal this time around, but is it just an aberration? Fantasy owners may find out this weekend against Indy. (Fantasy Football Fools)

Week 12 target report highlights, including the five worst wide receivers in terms of catch percentage. Definitely surprised by some of the names on this list, but it is not all their fault. (Pancake Blocks)

If you have some room on your bench, start looking to add some of these players who could see significant action during fantasy championship week. (FanHouse)

If Jay Cutler cannot get it done against the Rams this weekend, it may be time to bench him for good—or even cut ties with him altogether. (CBSSports.com)

Positional rankings for the upcoming fantasy weekend. Matt Schaub and the Texans against Maurice Jones-Drew and the Jags should be an exciting fantasy game to watch. (Roto Arcade)

Week 13 Waiver Wire Adds

Blame it on California.

I am sitting on the plane, writing this story, realizing how vital waiver wire additions are for fantasy owners this week and cursing Frontier for not offering in-flight wireless internet.

So, I guess you should blame it on Frontier. Sorry about that, California. And also my apologies to fantasy owners for the tardiness of this post .

I was able to peruse the stats from week 12 in order to find some of this week’s waiver wire gems. If you read this in time, make sure to take a look in your league(s) for these players.

Jerious Norwood, RB, Falcons : The Falcons may have rushed Michael Turner back too quickly , but did not do the same for Norwood. Good thing, too, because he appears to be fully healthy again and ready for his chance to cash in on all that preseason hype we laid on his shoulders.

Fred Jackson, RB, Bills : What goes around, comes around—and Jackson has now come full circle. He started the season with a bang as the Bills starter for the first three weeks. And then Marshawn Lynch returned. But now that Dick Jauron has been fired, it appears the Bills are going back to what worked well earlier this season.

Jason Avant, WR, Eagles : More than any other team, the Philadelphia Eagles likely will treat DeSean Jackson’s concussion very, very delicately. That means more opportunities for Avant, who has become the veteran presence in the Eagles’ passing game.

Kevin Walter, WR, Texans : Walter caught seven passes for 73 yards against the Colts and appears to be getting more work. That has a lot to do with the absence of Owen Daniels.

Vince Young, QB, Titans : If you missed the VY train in previous weeks, there may still be time to punch your ticket. But you better do it this week after his masterful week 12 performance against the Cardinals, which included a game-winning 99-yard touchdown drive. It might be too soon to tell, but Young may be developing a rapport with Kenny Britt so keep an eye on Britt as well.

Daily Haze: 'Tis the Season for Tyler Thigpen

Rarely do fantasy owners turn to a fantasy wasteland for fantasy salvation.

But last season around this time, fantasy owners struck gold in Kansas City with quarterback Tyler Thigpen. The third-string QB heading into the season, Thigpen dropped fantasy dimes almost every week down the stretch of the season.

While Thigpen's real team lost despite his impressive statistics, the difference between fantasy and reality was made abundantly clear for him in the offseason. The Chiefs rewarded Thigpen by trading for upstart quarterback Matt Cassel . Eventually, Thigpen himself was dealt to Miami.

The memory lives on for fantasy owners, however, and several quarterbacks could fit the Thigpen bill this season:

Vince Young, QB, Titans : Young took over for the Titans after an 0-6 start and has led the team back into the AFC playoff race with five consecutive wins. Fantasy owners who had not taken notice of VY yet should have done so this past weekend, when he threw for 387 yards and a touchdown.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Bills : The Bills' offense was a popular fantasy football sleeper heading into the season. But Trent Edwards was ineffective and the return of Marshawn Lynch seemed to slow the offense. Fitzpatrick has re-energized the Bills and Terrell Owens, who is on one heck of a fantasy tear the last few weeks.

Alex Smith, QB, 49ers : He has had his ups and downs this season, but the Smith-led San Fran offense is showing signs of life again in the passing game. The young nucleus of Smith, Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree figures to be a lucrative one for the foreseeable future.

Here are today's great reads:

There has been much talk recently about expanding the NFL regular season to 18 games . It seems fans would love it, but there could be some negative consequences. [Deadspin]

Chris Johnson is making a serious push for the NFL single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards held by Eric Dickerson. [Shutdown Corner]

You met the Tyler Thigpen candidates for this year above, but what about the Pierre Thomas candidates? Several running backs have a chance to become fantasy stars by season's end. [Roto Arcade]

If you are streaming defenses, check the numbers and find a good matchup for this all-important fantasy week. [CBSSports.com]

For those of you who play in FleaFlicker leagues, certainly you can sympathize with this blogger peeved at the weekly coach rating feature. As if you did not already know you should have started Justin Forsett over Brandon Jacobs. [Fantasy Football Fools]

Start & Sit Thanksgiving Day Parade

Bone up on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade before tomorrow morning if you are married/involved/born-to-a-heavily-feminine-family. Impress your family with random, trivial knowledge about the parade early in the morning, but good luck prying the remote from Grandma in time to catch some NFL pregame action.

There is nothing more Thanksgiving than a little parade-watching in the morning and A LOT of football watching in the afternoon. So when ole’ Granny dozes off around 11 a.m., make sure to confiscate her controller privileges for the day.

Plenty of fantasy football related storylines to watch tomorrow, including a ton of injuries. Strangely enough, most of these popped up during the day on Monday after this week’s Monday Morning Rehab. A few of the highlights, followed by a special Turkey Day edition of start and sit advice:

Tony Romo and Jason Witten, Cowboys: Romo did not miss any action against the Redskins after taking a knee to the back and his coach sounds optimistic about his chances to play. Witten, meanwhile, is a dreaded game-day decision. Test the Internet access at Maw Maw’s tomorrow morning well before game time in case a last-second roster change needs to be made.

Ahmad Bradshaw, RB, Giants: The word is overwhelmingly pessimistic regarding Bradshaw’s chances to play in Denver tomorrow night. He suffered a sprained foot that is worse than originally thought and has been on crutches this week. Danny Ware would serve as Bradshaw’s replacement and Brandon Jacobs’ vulture backup.

Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson, Lions: Neither player would have practiced on Monday after Sunday’s thrilling come-from-behind win against Cleveland. Stafford looks the most likely to miss, but Johnson is less than a 50-50 bet himself. Without two of their top three offensive players, the Lions would be in for some woeful Thanksgiving Day football.

Start ‘em

Aaron Rodgers, Ryan Grant, Donald Driver, and Greg Jennings, Packers
Green Bay offense on turf against the Lions, a defense that just gave up 37 points to the Browns. This should be a fantasy feast.

Brandon Jacobs, RB, Giants
Good chance Ahmad Bradshaw does not play, or is very limited tomorrow night. Start Jacobs with a little bit more confidence.

Brandon Marshall, WR, Broncos
The Giants still are susceptible through the air and the Broncos will have to keep up with the New York offense all night.

Kevin Smith, RB, Lions
You have to like Smith in this game with Stafford and Megatron out, right?!? It is a risky-ish play but might be worth it due to shear volume of touches.

Sit ‘em

Ahmad Bradshaw, RB, Giants
Briefly mentioned about that Bradshaw may not play tomorrow night. He has been on crutches this week and the team seems concerned with the injury.

Jason Witten, TE, Cowboys
If—and that is a big if—Witten does not play, make sure to put him on your bench. Martellus Bennett would be the appropriate plug-and-play.

Darren McFadden, RB, Raiders
Good luck trying to figure out Oakland’s three-heading running-back-by-committee.

Fantasy Football: Desperation Plug-and-Plays for Week 12

More than just turkey is on the menu for tomorrow’s annual American celebration of Thanksgiving Day.

A three-course meal of pigskin, pigskin, and more pigskin will grace television sets across the nation on Thursday. Two of the matchups have little appeal from a competitive standpoint, but all three have important fantasy football implications.

And sometimes, dang it, that is all we care about!

Packers at Lions : Start all of your Packers’ offensive players. Seriously. Aaron Rodgers, Ryan Grant, Greg Jennings, and Donald Driver are must-starts most weeks, especially this one. JerMichael Finley is a decent play (see below) and the Packers’ D, albeit banged up, should have a solid outing against a potentially Matthew Stafford-less Detroit Lions.

Raiders at Cowboys : Jason Witten and Tony Romo are banged up. The ‘Boys are optimistic about Romo’s chances and Witten is being called a game-time decision. If Witten cannot go, Martellus Bennett is a very interesting plug-and-play option. On the Raiders’ side of the ball…Ahh, who am I kidding? Good luck trying to figure that mess out.

Giants at Broncos : Could be the most entertaining and competitive football game of the day as the dessert portion of the menu. The G-Men could be without Ahmad Bradshaw and that sound you hear is jubilation from Brandon Jacobs’ fantasy owners. Knowing the Giants, however, third-string running back Danny Ware will steal 10-plus touches from Jacobs.

Potential Week 12 Plug-and-Plays

The players listed below are unowned in a majority of fantasy football leagues and have favorable match-ups in Week 12. Any one of these guys is worth a start this weekend for an in-need fantasy football owner.

Quarterbacks

Ryan Fitzpatrick vs. Dolphins
There are signs of life in Buffalo—out of the passing game and Terrell Owens—since Fitz took over at quarterback.

Kyle Boller vs. Seahawks
Boller has a chance to prepare for Seattle and could have a decent game at home against a porous pass D.

Running Backs

Bernard Scott vs. Browns
If Cedric Benson returns, Scott is an afterthought. Keep an eye on his game day status.

Justin Forsett at Rams
Two pretty good options at running back off the waiver wire here. Hopefully the ‘Hawks hold Julius Jones out this weekend, because this is a peach for Forsett.

Wide Receivers

Antonio Bryant at Falcons
Bryant returned from injury to face the Saints last week but was ineffective. He could get back on track this weekend.

Kevin Walter vs. Colts
At some point, Walter has to do something. Perhaps a desperate situation for the Texans is that moment.

Tight Ends

JerMichael Finley at Lions
For those unaware Finley has returned from a leg injury he suffered earlier this year. Use with confidence against Detroit.

Brandon Pettigrew vs. Packers
You have to give it to the kid, he is hot right now. How will the potential absence of Matt Stafford affect his fantasy value, though?

Kickers

Joe Nedney vs. Jaguars
Both of these offenses should move the ball with relative ease between the 20s.

DSTs

Panthers DST at Jets
I usually stay away from defenses on the road but if Mark Sanchez is starting at quarterback for the Jets, the recent numbers speak for themselves.

Daily Haze: Thanksgiving Day Advice

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, an annual celebration of food, family and football. Along with, of course, giving thanks to those who make life in America today possible and those who have done so in the past. Make sure to give thanks.

We do plenty of fantasy football advice around here—actually that is pretty much all we do—but today I wanted to share some non-fantasy advice. The regular fantasy football links are below, but here are a few good Thanksgiving-related reads:

If you are going to fry a turkey tomorrow—is there a better way?—make sure to read up on some turkey frying safety first. [Lifehacker]

Watch out for those grumpy, football-hating deer when playing your annual family touch football game tomorrow. [Shutdown Corner]

Times continue to be tough in this country for many Americans, but there still are plenty of ways we all can give a little something this holiday season . [Get Rich Slowly]

If you are going to brave all the crazy shoppers on Black Friday, the least you can do is arm yourself with the Black Friday ads . [BlackFriday.info]

Cooking a perfect bird can be a challenge for the best of chefs. Impress your family with these nine secrets to cooking a perfect turkey [Dumb Little Man]

And if something does go wrong tomorrow (God forbid), make sure to have an emergency holiday preparation kit on hand and at the ready. [Bob Vila]

Here are today's great reads:

If the absence of Ahmad Bradshaw does not help Brandon Jacobs' fantasy value , nothing will. [FanHouse]

Target report highlights from week 11, including the re-emergence of Mario Manningham in the Giants' passing game. [Pancake Blocks]

Mike Bell and Fred Jackson were two of the hottest names at the beginning of the season. After a midseason cool-down, both are now hot waiver wire commodities once again. [CBSSports.com]

Early fantasy rankings for all of the week 12 action . Drew Brees vs. Tom Brady on Monday Night Football should be something special to watch. [Roto Arcade]

Waiver wire advice for those of you in individual defensive player leagues. [Kilroyz Krystal Ball]

Our good friend Sara from the Fantasy Football Librarian has been asking you, the fantasy football owner, which fantasy football sites/blogs are the best the Web has to offer this season.

The polling has been going on for several weeks now; I mentioned it a while back. However, I thought it would be a good time to get The Hazean’s readers out to vote again before the holiday season begins, and because I think the poll probably will end pretty soon.

So, head on over to vote in the First Annual FFLibrarian Readers’ Choice poll and consider casting a few ballots in favor of The Hazean!

As always, thanks for reading and thanks for the support.

Week 12 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Adds

Thanksgiving is a mere two days away, which can only mean one thing: Fantasy football playoffs are right around the corner.

The Grab Bag was spot on last week with the recommendations of Jason Snelling, Justin Forsett, and LeSean McCoy. Hopefully, this week will provide more pickups that will aid you in your quest for fantasy postseason action.

Rock Cartwright, RB, Redskins

Talk about a depleted backfield. First, Clinton Portis went down with a concussion and now Ladell Betts is out for the season with a knee injury. Insert Rock Cartwright as the Washington Redskins' newest feature back. Portis has already been ruled out for Week 12 and his return date is not known. Cartwright will be the Skins' back from here on out, so add him without hesitation.

Brady Quinn, QB, Cleveland Browns

Is Quinn for real or was he more the product of a woeful Lions' defense? He has a tough matchup this week against the Bengals, but, if he shows any type of improvement, he could be worth a start in the playoffs. He has juicy matchups against Kansas City, Oakland, and Jacksonville in the coming weeks.

Kevin Boss, TE, New York Giants

Boss was on the receiving end of two touchdown passes from Eli Manning on Sunday. The Giants' ground game struggled early on, and it appeared that they were content to air it out under Manning’s arm. As long as the Giants throw often, Boss will continue to reap the benefits of a pass-first offense.

Atlanta Falcons DST

After giving up 34 points to the Giants, the Falcons have a better matchup against division rival Tampa Bay. The Bucs are coming off a seven-point performance against the New Orleans Saints and are truly struggling on offense. Look for Atlanta to bounce back at home and have a decent fantasy outing versus the Buccaneers.

Daily Haze: Kurt Warner, Ben Roethlisberger on the Mend

At least Kurt Warner and Ben Roethlisberger did not leave their fantasy owners hanging in week 11.

Both players hung fat numbers on the live scoreboards across fantasy leagues on Sunday before exiting with head injuries . Warner left late in the first half against St. Louis, giving way to Matt Leinart. Roethlisberger, meanwhile, played into the first series of overtime but was replaced by Charlie Batch after taking a knee to the head.

As for the status of these players this weekend?

If you ask Warner or Roethlisberger, both quarterbacks would tell fantasy owners that all systems are go as of today. Warner claims to have no effects of a concussion following getting smashed to the turf in St. Louis. He added that he does not think he suffered a concussion nor has he had one in the last six years. Warner expects to play this weekend.

Meanwhile, sources close to the Steelers claim that Roethlisberger is fine and should suit up to play this weekend. Complicating matters for the Steelers is the fact that Batch, Roethlisberger's backup, will miss at least six weeks due to a wrist injury.

Neither player has to suit up this Thursday so fantasy owners have some time to see how these guys progress throughout the practice week. Keep close watch, fantasy owners.

Here are today's great reads:

If your trade deadline is this week and you need some advice, thumb through some of the trade advice offered here last week .
Monday Morning Rehab: More Concussions in Week 11

If Week 10 was the week of running back lower-leg injuries , quarterbacks and head injuries was the theme of the week 11 injury slate.

Two high-profile QBs left their respective games yesterday — at crucial moments nonetheless — and could be in jeopardy going forward. With all the attention that has been given to head injuries of late, even a minor concussion could keep these players off the field in week 12 and beyond.

Updates on these quarterbacks and more in this week’s MMR below.

But first, this week’s fantasy lagniappe:

*To many the game may have been a joke, but Browns-Lions yesterday was full of fantasy goodness. I am going to pat myself on the back for predicting a few big things from this game last week. Matthew Stafford threw five touchdowns after a slow start and tight end Brandon Pettigrew caught the game winner.

Phil Dawson registered double digits in the kicking department. However, the Lions’ defense gave up a ton of points, mostly via Brady Quinn’s arm (four touchdown passes).

*If you traded for Greg Jennings last week in preparation for the fantasy playoffs, congrats. He made a few big plays yesterday reminiscent of the Jennings we all loved last season and this past summer in fantasy rankings . The schedule remains relatively favorable for Jennings and the Packers.

*Last week’s waiver wire adds came up big in Week 11, most of whom were filling in for injured fantasy starts. Jason Snelling scored twice in Michael Turner’s stead. Justin Forsett had trouble on the ground but made up for it with a short rushing touchdown and 80 yards receiving. And Bernard Scott topped 100 yards in the Bengals loss to the Raiders.

Ben Roethlisberger [QB, Steelers]

From ProFootballTalk :

On the first drive of overtime against the Chiefs, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger took a knee to the head while running with the ball after the pocket broke down.

It was the worst possible time for the Steelers to lose Big Ben. After he left, Charlie Batch came in and was unable to drive Pittsburgh far enough into Kansas City territory for the chance at a game-winning field goal.

So Pittsburgh punted, and the rest is history as Matt Cassel and Chris Chambers led the Chiefs to victory.

Roethlisberger’s owners should be concerned about the seriousness of the injury to Big Ben. With all the attention concussions have been getting lately in the NFL, there is a growing chance he could miss some time. Keep a close watch for comments out of Pittsburgh early this week regarding Roethlisberger’s status.

Brandon Jacobs [RB, Giants]

From RotoWorld :

Brandon Jacobs said after Sunday’s win that his knee injury is not an issue, and he could have gone back in the game if necessary.

Jacobs got dinged up in yesterday’s win against Atlanta but was able to punch in a touchdown before leaving the game. His fantasy owners at least had that before he retreated to the sidelines for the rest of the affair.

The Giants play on Thursday night this week, so the Giants will have to issue an injury report sometime later today. See how Jacobs’ status is listed and prepare for the use of a replacement if necessary. If he cannot practice by Wednesday, Jacobs would be a risky play against Denver.

Ladell Betts [RB, Redskins]

From ProFootballTalk :

Betts left the game with an injury to his left knee on the team’s second possession, and coach Jim Zorn told reporters after the game that the running back tore his MCL.

So much for using Betts any longer during Clinton Portis’ absence.

Betts is done for fantasy purposes this year and is a safe drop. Fantasy owners could add Redskins’ third-string running back Rock Cartwright off the waiver wire this week if there are no other options. He played well in Betts’ absence yesterday.

Clinton Portis [RB, Redskins]

From RotoWorld :

The Redskins have already ruled out Clinton Portis (concussion) for Week 12, coach Jim Zorn revealed Sunday.

No Portis and no Betts next week will mean more Rock Cartwright, as mentioned above. He is the appropriate add for fantasy owners this week.

Meanwhile, the Redskins have given no timetable for Portis’ return year. Chances are good that Washington will bring in a free agent running back or two this week to fill out the roster behind Cartwright.

Marshawn Lynch [RB, Bills]

From ProFootballTalk :

Marshawn Lynch was carted off the field Sunday after injuring his shoulder in the second quarter.

Lynch apparently was upbeat after the game, which could be a good sign for his status going forward.

If he is unable to get back on the practice field this week, however, Fred Jackson becomes an interesting commodity once again. He already has proven to be an effective fantasy player with Lynch out of the lineup and could make for a good spot start next weekend for a desperate fantasy owner.

Kurt Warner [QB, Cardinals]

From ProFootballTalk :

With Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner suffering from a possible concussion, Matt Leinart has entered the fray in St. Louis.

The momentum in this game tangibly changed after Warner left. The Rams continued to pound the ball with Steven Jackson and the defense started to gain some confidence against the Leinart-led Cardinals’ offense, but it was too little too late for St. Louis.

While Leinart was effective from an accuracy standpoint, he appeared to hesitate on a few of his passes which allowed St. Louis a few opportunities down the stretch. Fantasy owners need to hope Warner’s head injury is not as serious as a concussion so that he can return to the lineup next weekend.

Matthew Stafford [QB, Lions]

From RotoWorld :

X-rays came back negative on Matthew Stafford’s left shoulder following Sunday’s 38-37 win over Cleveland.

Stafford showed a lot of heart and guts in leading the Lions back to win against Cleveland yesterday, coming back into the game to throw the game-winning touchdown after getting knocked out one play prior.

His status for Thursday is unknown right now but the Lions will have to issue an injury report later today. He could be listed as questionable as he appeared to be in a ton of pain during and after the game.

Reggie Bush [RB, Saints]

From ProFootballTalk :

Saints running back Reggie Bush was initially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers, but he has been ruled out and will not play.

Bush was not active yesterday and watched as Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell ran through the Buccaneers defense yesterday in Tampa Bay. He is expected to return for next Monday’s home game against New England, and he typically fares well on Monday Night Football.

However, Bush will not be safe to use in fantasy leagues if he does not get in a full practice by the end of this week.

Justin Gage [WR, Titans]

From ProFootballTalk :

Tennessee Titans wide receiver Justin Gage has been ruled out for Monday night’s game against the Houston Texans with a back injury.

Gage has multiple fractures in his back, which is bad—but not as bad as it sounds. The injury, which Gage suffered two weeks ago, typically heals within a couple of weeks, so Gage might be back on the field next week.

Gage is out tonight, which means Kenny Britt could be in for a few more targets once again. The rookie has been impressive at times this season, especially when filling in for the injured Gage.

It is hard to trust any Titans’ receivers, however, with Vince Young at quarterback. He does not appear to favor any at this point and could be a little inconsistent in the passing game going forward.

Brian Westbrook [RB, Eagles]

From ProFootballTalk :

Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook is expected to miss at least three weeks following his latest concussion, coach Andy Reid said today.

The Eagles are taking the cautious approach with Westbrook now that he has suffered his second concussion of the season. Seems like the right thing to do.

But they are reluctant to end his season just yet, which means he could return for the fantasy playoffs. If he gets a clean bill of health by then, it will be interesting to see if the Eagles do throw him back into the fire and if fantasy owners do the same.

The MMR will continue to run every Monday morning as scheduled during the regular season. If you have an injury update or want an update on a certain player, please leave a note in the comments.

Daily Haze: Early Week 12 Waiver Wire Thoughts

A few names on the waiver wire this week for those in dynasty and/or deep keepers leagues with an eye on next season: Chris Jennings and Brandon Gibson.

I mentioned Gibson last week after his breakthrough game against the depleted New Orleans Saints' secondary. He went out yesterday and proved that last week's results were not necessarily the result of playing against second- and third-stringers.

Against the Cardinals as the No. 2 wide receiver, Gibson chipped in five catches for 61 yards. On third-and-four from inside the 10-yard line, Marc Bulger floated a pass to Gibson in the endzone which could have sent the game to overtime but Gibson dropped the ball. That he was trusted with such a route in a crucial spot is a good sign for the future.

Consider adding Gibson this week off the waiver wire or adding him onto a blockbuster deal if your trade deadline is this week.

Jennings, meanwhile, rushed for 36 yards in spelling outgoing Browns' running back Jamal Lewis. He also contributed in the passing game with five catches for 38 yards.

The Browns will have James Davis in camp next summer and could bring in another running back or two via free agency or the draft to compete for the starting job. But Jennings is getting some valuable playing time right now that could go a long way toward his standing on the team next season.

Early week 12 waiver wire thoughts for the rest of us:

Davone Bess, WR, Dolphins [6-63]
Rock Cartwright, RB, Redskins [67; 7-73]
Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Lions [6-72-1]
Kevin Boss, TE, Giants [5-76-2]
Matthew Stafford, QB, Lions [422-5]
Brady Quinn, QB, Browns [304-4]
Mohamed Massaquoi, WR, Browns [5-115-1]
Fred Jackson, RB, Bills [35; 4-20]

Here are today's great reads:

There is almost no way Mark Sanchez should be owned in redraft leagues at this point. He and Matt Stafford appear to be heading in opposite directions at the moment. [Bruno Boys]

Looking for a fun league prize this season? Consider one of these Fantasy+Ethos%29" target="_blank">fantasy football t-shirts . [Fantasy Ethos]

It was a good thing Dallas Clark caught that early touchdown for fantasy owners, because that is all he did yesterday. [Pancake Blocks]

Welcome back to fantasy relevance, Terrell Owens . Not sure what to expect of TO going forward, but those of us who started him this weekend were happy for the one-week revival. [CBSSports.com]

I had to watch the Lions and Browns yesterday afternoon and I have to say it was one of the more entertaining football games I have seen this season. [Shutdown Corner]

More on the revival of Terrell Owens and the coincidental decline of the Dallas Cowboys' passing game the same Sunday as Owens' big day. [FanHouse]

NFL Injuries Steal the Fantasy Spotlight: Week 11 Start and Sit

Sure, fantasy owners are thankful to have bye weeks in the rearview mirrors, but instead of filling holes left by idle players, fantasy owners are scrambling to find replacements for injured stars .

Perhaps Week 10 was an aberration of what had been a mostly injury-free season to date. Or maybe it was a sign of things to come.

With the fantasy playoffs in sight, fantasy owners have to hope—nay, pray—that last weekend's injury epidemic was an isolated outbreak.

A few injury updates before this week’s start and sit advice:

RB Cedric Benson, Bengals

Benson missed practice yesterday, and it is looking highly doubtful he will play this Sunday at Oakland. Rookie Bernard Scott should see a lot of touches, and Larry Johnson may be active for his first game with the Bengals.

RB Brian Westbrook, Eagles

Westy already has been ruled out for this weekend’s game. Fantasy owners can rule him out for the near future, as well. However, doctors do expect Westbrook to make a full recovery given the proper rest.

RB Ronnie Brown, Dolphins

Brown has been placed on injured reserve, ending his 2009 season. Ricky Williams took over as the main ball carrier in Miami last night and scored three times. Brown, meanwhile, is set to have surgery today on a reported Lisfranc injury to his foot.

RB Michael Turner, Falcons

The Burner has not yet been officially ruled out for this Sunday’s game against the Giants, but it is looking doubtful he will play. There is no timetable for his return as of yet. Jason Snelling will get the start in his stead this weekend and could be a decent flex play.

Start ‘Em

QB Matt Ryan @ Giants

Ryan has been a disappointment this season from a fantasy standpoint, but he could have a nice weekend against a poor pass defense.

QB Jay Cutler vs. Eagles

Despite throwing five interceptions last weekend, Cutler throws the ball too much to bench him at this point.

RB Kevin Smith vs. Browns

Smith should run over, through and around, the Browns’ defense, just like everyone else has this season.

RB Bernard Scott @ Raiders

If Benson is out—very likely—Scott is going to get a high volume of touches this weekend. A great start off the waiver wire for Benson owners.

WR Donald Driver vs. 49ers

Greg Jennings gets all the fantasy love, but Driver continues to do work. He and Hines Ward are playing like young men again.

WR Sidney Rice vs. Seahawks

With Brett Favre at quarterback, Rice has become one of the league’s best young wide receivers.

TE Fred Davis @ Cowboys

Another good opportunity for Davis, especially with the Redskins’ offense playing a little better these days.

Sit ‘Em

QB Kyle Orton vs. Chargers

He is not completely healthy and these teams appear to be going in opposite directions.

QB Alex Smith @ Packers

Smith disappointed owners with a single-digit fantasy performance against the Bears last week. It is hard to trust him again.

RB Jamaal Charles vs. Steelers

A popular waiver wire add a few weeks ago, but Charles draws a very tough matchup this weekend.

RB Justin Forsett @ Vikings

As a popular waiver wire add this week, Forsett has to go on the road against one of the league’s best defenses.

WR Miles Austin vs. Redskins

Now that Austin has become a starting receiver, defenses are paying much more attention to him. That has opened things up for Roy Williams and Patrick Crayton.

WR Michael Crabtree @ Packers

The Green Bay defense played inspired football at home last weekend against a potent Dallas offense.

TE Jason Witten vs. Redskins

Still hard to bench this guy given all the potential, but the numbers are severely lacking this season.

Desperation Plug-and-Plays for Week 11

Lions, Browns, Matt Stafford, and Brady Quinn...Oh my!

In a game that figures to be entertaining in that the winner proves not to be the worst team in the NFL this season there are a few surprisingly decent fantasy plays—that is if you are a really, really desperate owner.

Now that the bye weeks are in the rear view mirror—can you believe it?—fantasy owners are focusing on the next three-to-four weeks before the start of the fantasy playoffs. This is make-or-break time for most owners and while bye weeks are no longer wreaking havoc on rosters, injuries certainly will start taking a toll.

And week 10 was rife with injuries to fantasy starters across the board, mostly at the game’s most important fantasy position.

Fantasy owners will be without Ronnie Brown tonight and for the rest of the season (last chance to get Ricky Williams, seriously). Brian Westbrook and Clinton Portis are out again due to concussions. Michael Turner is out for at least a week. Cedric Benson is in danger of missing this weekend.

And that is just to name a few.

See below for some potential starting relief via the waiver wire for this weekend’s games.

Potential Week 11 Plug-and-Plays

The players listed below are unowned in a majority of fantasy football leagues and have favorable match-ups in week 11. Any one of these guys is worth a start this weekend for an in-need fantasy football owner.

Quarterbacks

Jake Delhomme v. Dolphins

Look, he has not been as bad lately as earlier this season. Steve Smith is being emphasized again and the running game is hot. Could easily throw a couple of scores tonight.

Matthew Stafford v. Browns

Stafford could have the best game of his young, budding career against Cleveland this weekend. Easily.

Running Backs

Bernard Scott @ Raiders

If Benson does not play (he should not be needed) Scott will get a high volume of touches against a really bad team.

Cadillac Williams/Derrick Ward v. Saints

Just because Michael Turner, DeAngelo Williams and Steven Jackson—three of the league’s best running backs — torched the Saints does not mean...Nah, nevermind. Either of these guys, or both, could score a touchdown this weekend.

Wide Receivers

Jacoby Jones v. Titans

Matt Schaub and Co. had the bye week to adjust the Owen Daniels-less passing game. Jones could become more involved going forward.

Hakeem Nicks v. Falcons

Again, the Giants really should be a better offense than they have been in recent weeks. Perhaps the bye healed some wounds.

Tight Ends

Brandon Pettigrew v. Browns

If Stafford is going to have a career game, someone has to benefit. And it does not necessarily have to be Calvin Johnson, though he should get his.

Kevin Boss v. Falcons

Same as Nicks above. Eli Manning still looks for Boss often enough to warrant use in fantasy leagues.

Kickers

Phil Dawson @ Lions

The Browns have scored five offensive touchdowns all season. They should at least get in field goal range a couple of times this weekend.

Defense/Special Teams

Lions DST v. Browns

Sticking with the Browns-Lions theme, my money is on the Lions this weekend and the defense could hold the Browns to 10 points or less.

Daily Haze: Dolphins-Panthers Start and Sit Advice

Taking a break from the trade advice today to tackle some of the start and sit problems facing fantasy owners this weekend.

It starts tonight with the Dolphins and Panthers, and the question on everyone's mind: How will Miami fare without Ronnie Brown in the lineup? And how will the Wildcat operate?

Perhaps more importantly for fantasy owners, how will Brown's owners fare without him this weekend?

Start 'em

Ricky Williams, RB, Dolphins

This is a no-brainer with Ronnie Brown out, but how will the dynamic of the Dolphins' running game change without Brown? Should be interesting to see how Ricky handles the load by himself.

Jonathan Stewart, RB, Panthers

DeAngelo Williams is either (A) legitimately banged up or (B) getting the veteran treatment. If it is the former, Stewart is in for a lot of work tonight.

Sit 'em

Ronnie Brown, RB, Dolphins

Obviously. This is just a friendly reminder to get him out of your starting lineup. He also is safe to drop in standard redraft leagues.

Chad Henne, QB, Dolphins

I think Henne has a better chance of being negatively affected by the loss of Brown than any other player on the Miami offense.

Finally, if it is trade advice you long for, consider reading a few of our trade-related posts from earlier this week:

Here are today's great reads:

* Not only are fantasy owners without Ronnie Brown tonight, but they also could be without DeAngelo Williams . Keep a close eye on his status today. [ProFootballTalk]

Target These Players for the Fantasy Football Playoffs

In continuation of trade deadline advice week here at The Hazean, today's fantasy football trade feature focuses on a few players with tasty playoff schedules.

In case you were wondering, yesterday's feature highlighted eight handcuffs fantasy owners should target via the waiver wire or trade market this week.

For those of you in the thick of the playoff race, looking too far ahead could be costly. Each regular season weekend from now until the start of the fantasy playoffs should be the most important item on a fantasy owner's agenda.

But getting a feel for which players have the best matchups come fantasy playoff time is never a bad idea. Especially if you are considering swinging a deal that could help you down the road.

Before making a deal, assess your chances of making the playoffs. If you have a few players with great matchups the next few weeks whom others are targeting in a trade, decide if you can get into the playoffs despite losing these players. And if so, make sure you get one or a few guys with great fantasy playoff schedules in return.

The players listed below have the tastiest of fantasy football playoff matchups based on the amount of fantasy points given up by the opposing defenses in the past few weeks.

Daily Haze: Grab These Rookies in Dynasty/Keeper Leagues

The second day of trade advice week here at The Hazean takes a look at this year's rookie class, which Marc has been tracking every week from a fantasy standpoint in the Rookie Report.

The rookies worth trading for in dynasty and keeper leagues before the deadline are broken down below by cost, fashion style.

I apologize in advance to those of you who are not fans of Banana Republic, Gap or T.J. Maxx. Or fashion in general.

But if you feel comfortable doing so, share your fashion favorites in the comments. You also can comment on football, too, if you want.

The Banana Republic Rookies

These guys are upscale, trendy and of the highest quality. They also will cost you a pretty penny in trades this week:

Mark Sanchez, QB, Jets
Matthew Stafford, QB, Lions
Beanie Wells, RB, Cardinals
LeSean McCoy, RB, Eagles
Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos
Michael Crabtree, WR, 49ers
Percy Harvin, WR, Vikings

The Gap Rookies

These guys are affordable for those of you with expendable fantasy equity, will not break the bank, and still look pretty good:

Josh Freeman, QB, Buccaneers
Donald Brown, RB, Colts
Shonn Greene, RB, Jets
Glen Coffee, RB, 49ers
Hakeem Nicks, WR, Giants
Jeremy Maclin, WR, Eagles
Austin Collie, WR, Colts

The T.J. Maxx Rookies

For the bargain shoppers out there, perhaps a diamond-in-the-rough is lurking somewhere on the sales racks. These guys could be knock-offs, but they look like the real thing sometimes:

Bernard Scott, RB, Bengals
Rashad Jennings, RB, Jaguars
Kenny Britt, WR, Titans
Mike Wallace, WR, Steelers
Mike Thomas, WR, Jaguars
Brandon Gibson, WR, Rams
Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Lions

Here are today's great reads:

Awful news for Dwayne Bowe owners: The Chiefs No. 1 receiver has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's drug policy. Hit the trade market hard for a wide receiver this week. [Bruno Boys]

If you are going to make a trade this week, consider buying Cardinals . They have a ridiculously awesome fantasy schedule down the stretch. [FanHouse]

On the flip side, the five teams with the absolute worst fantasy football playoff schedules . Like I said before, if you can sell Matt Forte now is the time. [Pancake Blocks]

Fantasy-Hit-List-6179.html" target="_blank">Calvin Johnson is on the rise again for fantasy owners after missing a few games and a few uncharacteristically quiet weeks. [National Football Post]

Game-by-game fantasy football revelations from all of the week 10 NFL action. Injuries are a pretty major theme here. [SI.com]

While it is an important week for those trying to make trades, do not forget about the waiver wire this week as well. [CBSSports.com]

Last Call for These Eight Fantasy Football Handcuffs

A rash of week 10 injuries to some of the studliest running backs this season has magnified the need for a little fantasy football insurance.

No time like the present to swing a potentially season-saving fantasy football trade.

Fantasy owners of Cedric Benson, Michael Turner, Brian Westbrook, Julius Jones, Ronnie Brown, and Clinton Portis all are scrambling this week to find fantasy replacements for these injured backs.

If owners did not already own the handcuffs for these players, the trade deadline in most leagues is this weekend to make a deal for the ultimate insurance policy.

Not all of the players below are the appropriate handcuffs for the above players, and at least four of them likely can be found on the waiver wire . For those who are owned—some of which were mentioned a few weeks ago —the price will be much, much higher than it was just a few short weeks ago.

But desperate times call for desperate measures.

Off the Waiver Wire

Justin Forsett, RB, Seahawks

Forsett filled in admirably for Julius Jones against the Cardinals and will be a popular add off fantasy waiver wires this week. Jones could miss several weeks with a cracked rib that caused some bleeding and bruising in his lung.

Jason Snelling, RB, Falcons

Another running back that benefits from the injuries of a pair of other runners on the roster. Michael Turner likely has a high ankle sprain , and Jerious Norwood continues to miss work with various ailments. Snelling could get the call short-term and be a good spot start for desperate Turner owners.

Bernard Scott, RB, Bengals

And another running back benefiting from the potential loss of a starter in front of him. Scott is an explosive runner but unproven as an every-down back. Meanwhile, Cedric Benson claims he will start this weekend but may not practice until the end of the week.

Chester Taylor, RB, Vikings

He is a must-own at this point in the season for Adrian Peterson owners. Other owners could stash him on the bench as well, but he was recently dropped in a very competitive league of mine, which means he could be available off the wire in your league(s).

On the Trading Block

Ricky Williams, RB, Dolphins

Ronnie Brown almost certainly is out for this Thursday's game against the Panthers. Better pull the trigger on that Williams trade today if you want to use him this week.

LeSean McCoy, RB, Eagles

Westbrook's season is in jeopardy after a second concussion in three weeks . Not only that, but there are whispers that Westy's career may be in jeopardy. McCoy will get the bulk of the work going forward, both this year and beyond.

Jonathan Stewart, RB, Panthers

Stewart can handle the load should the Panthers need him. DeAngelo Williams missing almost all of practice last week to a knee injury should put enough of a scare into his owners to attempt to acquire JStew.

Ahmad Bradshaw, RB, Giants

Of all the running backs to suffer injuries this week, Brandon Jacobs was not one of them. Perhaps that was because he did not play in week 10. Do not tempt fate: Trade for Bradshaw as Jacobs insurance this week.

Daily Haze: Trade Deadline Week

The deadline to make trades in most fantasy leagues is this week, which means there is little time now to make a blockbuster deal.

In light of the madness that is sure to consume fantasy leagues this week there will be a series of trade-related posts this week. Check back later today for eight handcuffs fantasy owners need to target this week, especially if you own one of the starting running backs in front of said handcuffs.

And in case you were wondering, there was a post earlier this season regarding some handcuffs that should have been targeted back then. The price for these players has gone up considering the timing and the rash of injuries that occurred in Week 10 .

If you have a proposed trade and need some advice, drop us a line in the comments on any post this week.

Here are today's great reads:

Before pulling the trigger on a major deal this week, make sure to consider the strength of schedule for each of the players involved the rest of the way. [Bruno Boys]

Superstitious fantasy owners can blame Michael Turner's ankle injury on the curse of 370. No matter how you want to spin it, the curse struck again. [Fantasy Football Fools]

Larry Johnson is heading to the Cincinnati Bengals . Not sure what this says about the severity of Cedric Benson's injury. [ProFootballTalk]

Trade deadline week means this is the last chance for Matt Forte owners to sell him before the start of the stretch run. [The Fantasy Football Geek Blog]

More fallout on Bill Belichick's decision to go for it on 4th-and-2 the other night against the Colts. I suppose I cannot fault Belichick for trying to win the game, but I could not believe it when I saw it. [The Big Lead]

As most of you know already, Brian Westbrook suffered another concussion this week. Now, his season and possibly career may be in jeopardy. [FanHouse]

For those of you who love Twitter, there is a new way to keep up with all the latest fantasy football information on the popular social networking tool. [Fantasy Ethos]

Old people enjoy fantasy football , too. One day, this will be all of us. [Deadspin]

Week 11 Waiver Wire Adds

Vindication, thy name is the waiver wire!

Hopefully our advice was heeded last week and you added Ladell Betts or Jamaal Charles to your roster. Both guys finished the day with more than 100 yards rushing and one touchdown. Not too bad for a plug-and-play in my opinion.

There was a myriad of injuries this past weekend , so no doubt people will be scrambling to lock up players on the waiver wire. Even if your team is out of the playoff hunt, scoop up some of these players and trade them off to benefit your team next year.

Jason Snelling, RB, Atlanta Falcons

With Turner going down to a reported high ankle sprain , Snelling took over and rushed for 61 yards and a score. He also added 32 yards receiving to his cause. Turner is getting an MRI done today, but more than likely he will be out for at least this upcoming week. With Jerious Norwood injured as well, Snelling will get all the carries as long as Turner is out. He is a must-add for all Michael Turner owners.

Justin Forsett, RB, Seattle Seahawks

Forsett came in to replace the injured Julius Jones and had a nice day as he accumulated 123 yards and a touchdown. As long as Forsett can continue to produce, the Seahawks will not rush Jones back onto the field. Forsett could produce big dividends in the weeks to come.

LeSean McCoy, RB, Phiadelphia Eagles

We recommended adding McCoy a few weeks back once Westbrook went down with a concussion. Now, Westy has suffered a second concussion in three weeks , and his season/career is now in jeopardy. McCoy looks to be the main guy going forward in the Philly back field, so if he is still available pick him up for the duration of the season.

Monday Morning Rehab: Michael Turner, Ronnie Brown Suffer Ankle Injuries

It is time to put starting running backs around the NFL of full alert: Week 10 proved to be a treacherous one for many of the league’s best ball carriers.

Six big fantasy names found their way to the MMR this morning with some pretty serious ailments. Several of these players’ statuses will be up in the air for week 11 and beyond.

This week’s injury updates after a little fantasy lagniappe:

*In a game that was a defensive battle most of the day, Aaron Rodgers helped the Packers bounce back in a big way against the Cowboys yesterday. From a fantasy perspective it was a solid outing for Rodgers, yet again. He certainly has lived up to his top-five fantasy quarterback billing so far this year.

*Bye weeks are done for the rest of the 2009 season, thank goodness. While only the Texans and Giants were idle this weekend, I for one missed the services of Matt Schaub and Brandon Jacobs. Now if only fantasy owners can avoid key injuries, more than enough of which popped up this week as seen below.

*Chris Johnson is a friggin’ fantasy beast. He posted another studly effort yesterday for his owners by dropping the following stats: 132 rushing yards, nine receptions, 100 receiving yards, two touchdowns. Does anyone else on the Titans’ offense do anything?

Michael Turner [RB, Falcons]

From RotoWorld :

Turner was in a boot after Sunday’s loss, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution says the injury “could be serious.” The ankle doesn’t appear to be broken, but there were initial indications that Turner may have a high ankle sprain.

There are rumblings that Turner’s injury may be serious as in a high ankle sprain, which would keep him out of action for several weeks.

Jason Snelling took over as the primary ball carrier in Turner’s absence and had a service-able day against the Panthers yesterday. He will be a hot add this week off the waiver wire.

Meanwhile, preseason sleeper Jerious Norwood continues to slumber.

Ronnie Brown [RB, Dolphins]

From RotoWorld :

Ronnie Brown left the stadium on crutches after injuring his right ankle in Sunday’s two-point win over Tampa Bay.

If Brown were to miss any time, Ricky Williams steps into the leading role on the offense. Brown owners without the services of Williams have this week—if the trade deadline has not passed in your league—to trade for handcuff Williams .

It might be a good idea, as Brown’s injury could cost him several weeks. The good news as of late last night is that Brown’s X-rays came back negative . The bad news, however, is that the Dolphins have to turn around and play on Thursday night this week which does not give Brown much time to get healthy.

Julius Jones [RB, Seahawks]

From RotoWorld :

Julius Jones left Sunday’s game against the Cardinals with a chest injury.

Jones has a broken rib and experienced some bleeding in his lung according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. He stayed in an Arizona hospital last night while the rest of the Seahawks traveled back home to Seattle.

Justin Forsett picked up the slack in the Seahawks’ rushing game yesterday to the tune of 123 yards rushing and a score. He is the appropriate add for Jones owners and could see starting running back action for the next few weeks while Jones recovers.

Brian Westbrook [RB, Eagles]

From ProFootballTalk :

The Eagles announced that Westbrook was knocked out of Sunday’s game against San Diego in the fourth quarter with another concussion. The setback illustrates how scary head injuries can be. A player can be medically cleared and you still never know what will happen when he returns to a game situation.

There are whispers that this injury, Westbrook’s second head injury in three weeks, could jeopardize his status for the rest of this season. And some even are wondering if this could end his career earlier than expected.

Many Westbrook owners tied LeSean McCoy to him earlier this year via fantasy football drafts. If not, this would be the week to go out and buy McCoy if he is available. He figures to get much, much more work going forward for Philly.

Clinton Portis [RB, Redskins]

From ProFootballTalk :

With “ongoing ringing” in Clinton Portis’ head, questions are starting to surface in Washington about when the running back will be able to return to the lineup. Like, whether he’ll be able to return at all.

Ladell Betts filled in nicely for Portis as the Redskins knocked off the reeling Broncos yesterday. He and Rock Cartwright will continue to carry the load, health willing, in Portis’ absence.

Washington may be in no rush to bring Portis back if Betts and Co. can keep the ground game rolling.

Cedric Benson [RB, Bengals]

From ProFootballTalk :

With rumors linking Johnson to the Bengals already growing, the absence of starter Cedric Benson from Sunday’s game at Pittsburgh due to a hip injury could prompt the team to get Johnson in the building sooner rather than later.

Rumors of Larry Johnson to the Bengals will only intensify early this week as Benson is expected to sit out of practice until the end of the week at the earliest.

Right now, rookie Bernard Scott is the appropriate add for fantasy owners. He should be a popular add this week. Brian Leonard also is an option for fantasy owners in deep leagues. Johnson is a speculative pick-up at best.

Benson owners, meanwhile, need to hold their breaths.

Kyle Orton [QB, Broncos]

From ProFootballTalk :

With Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton hobbled by an ankle injury suffered in the second quarter of Sunday’s game at Washington, Chris Simms has replaced Orton to start the second half.

Orton was off to a good start yesterday with two first-half touchdown passes to Brandon Marshall before leaving the game with an ankle injury. He was listed as doubtful to return to the game and his status for next week might be the same.

The MMR will continue to run every Monday morning as scheduled during the regular season. If you have an injury update or want an update on a certain player, please leave a note in the comments.

Daily Haze: Early Week 11 Waiver Wire Thoughts

Injuries paved the way for several back-ups to take center stage during week 10 of the NFL season. After a few slow weeks on the waiver wire, this week figures to be very active across all fantasy leagues.

Whenever a running back emerges onto the scene, fantasy owners scramble to the wire in an effort to collect the services of said running back. But when at least six mostly-unowned running backs hit the open market? Fantasy feeding frenzy.

More on the injuries in today's Monday Morning Rehab —check back in a couple hours for that—but here are several of the names which figure to be popular among owners this week:

Jason Snelling, RB, Falcons [61-1; 3-32]
Bernard Scott, RB, Bengals [33; 1-21]
Reggie Bush, RB, Saints [83-1; 2-15-1]
Donnie Avery, WR, Rams [4-67-2]
Ladell Betts, RB, Redskins [114-1; 1-6]
Jamaal Charles, RB, Chiefs [103-1; 4-14]
Justin Forsett, RB, Seahawks [123-1; 5-26]

If you are in a dynasty or deep keeper league, consider this name: Brandon Gibson, WR, Rams. Gibson took advantage of a banged-up New Orleans secondary to the tune of seven catches for 93 yards.

With Keenan Burton out and Laurent Robinson sidelined for the season, Gibson picked up the slack opposite Donnie Avery. He could continue to see an expanded role in this offense going forward.

Here are today's great reads:

Maurice Jones-Drew pulled a Brian Westbrook yesterday, apologized to fantasy owners after the game. [Shutdown Corner]

If you stayed up late last night to watch the Colts-Patriots game last night, you were not disappointed. Great, great football game. [Roto Arcade]

After getting injured yesterday, both Kyle Orton and Julius Jones have found their way off fantasy rosters for the time being. [Bruno Boys]

The good and the bad from the weekend of fantasy football. Several big-name players had a very quiet Sunday for fantasy owners [Pancake Blocks]

Speaking of the bad, where in the world was Vincent Jackson yesterday against the Eagles? And he was not the only fantasy wide receiver to disappear yesterday. [FanHouse]

Assessing the injury toll from week 10 . Check back in a couple hours for the Monday Morning Rehab for more injury news and analysis. [CBSSports.com]

Percy Harvin Surges to the Top of the Rookie Rankings

You know it is a down year when the rookie rankings are headed up by a guy who did not even play last weekend.

Sure, this year’s class has had its moments. Mark Sanchez looked like like a star at the start of the year. Knowshon Moreno took the reins in Denver. But mostly, it has been a relative disappoint for this season’s rookies from a fantasy standpoint.

Perhaps Michael Crabtree can redeem the class by season’s end?

Good thing the Rookie Report is a cumulative list based on the whole season. Otherwise, this week’s top five might have five new players due to subpar performances by the regulars this past week.

1. Percy Harvin, WR, Vikings - Harvin was on a bye and gained “Top Dog” status on this week’s list. Some of that is because of his rookie peers’ lackluster performances, but mostly it is because of his versatility.

2. Knowshon Moreno, RB, Broncos - Moreno was completely shut down by the Steelers rush defense with just five carries for three yards. Stats like that are not the way to remain on this list. The Broncos need him to contribute in a big way to stop their two game losing streak.

3. Austin Collie, WR, Colts - Collie lost most of his usual action to sure-handed tight end Dallas Clark, who had 14 catches. Collie will need to have a big game against the Patriots if the Colts want to maintain their undefeated status.

4. Mike Wallace, WR, Steelers - Wallace is making his first appearance on this list with a four-catch-for-69-yards-and-one-touchdown performance against the Broncos on Monday Night Football. Wallace is becoming Big Ben’s go-to deep threat in the passing game.

5. Mark Sanchez, QB, Jets - Sanchez is still hanging in on this list because of his early successes to start the season. He needs to come back strong after the bye week to remain in contention for fantasy rookie of the year.

Last week’s Rookie Report rankings:

1. Knowshon Moreno
2. Percy Harvin
3. Austin Collie
4. Hakeem Nicks
5. Mark Sanchez

Week 10 Start and Sit: Aaron Rodgers' Turn for a Bounce Back

Last week it was Kurt Warner and Brandon Jacobs due for a fantasy turn-around. This time, it is Aaron Rodgers' turn.

After throwing three interceptions and losing on the road in Tampa Bay, Rodgers and the Packers return home this weekend to face the Dallas Cowboys. Now it still is about midseason in the NFL, but if ever there was a "must win" game this is it for the Packers.

The loss was not a complete wash for Rodgers in terms of fantasy value. He totaled three touchdowns in the game. But obviously it could have been a little better without the turnovers.

Expect Rodgers to bounce back nicely with the support of the home crowd against a surging Cowboys team.

A few injury updates before this week's start/sit advice:

Clinton Portis, RB, Redskins : After getting knocked out last weekend in Atlanta, Portis has been ruled out for this Sunday's game against the Broncos. Popular week 10 waiver wire add Ladell Betts will start in his place. No word on how long this will keep Portis out of action but his body certainly could use the rest.

Brian Westbrook, RB, Eagles : Westy returned to a full practice yesterday and is slated to start this weekend at San Diego. However, he was cleared to play last week before a post-concussion headache sprung up on Friday before the game. Keep a close eye on his situation.

Anquan Boldin, WR, Cardinals : A one-week hiatus from football was apparently long enough for Boldin. He has practiced at full capacity this week and ready to start this weekend against the Seahawks. His presence in the lineup certainly negates some of the value Steve Breaston had been building for himself again this year.

Start 'em

Quarterbacks

Aaron Rodgers vs. Cowboys
After throwing three interceptions against the Bucs last weekend, Rodgers certainly is due for a big game in front of the home crowd.

Matt Hasselbeck @ Cardinals
Hopefully this potential shoot-out in the desert lives up to the billing.

Running Backs

Marshawn Lynch @ Titans
Lynch has had a few decent outings since returning from suspension, he could be due for a big one for the first time this year.

Ladell Betts vs. Broncos
No Clinton Portis means plenty of opportunity for Betts, who also is a good pass-catcher out of the backfield.

Wide Receivers

Derrick Mason @ Browns
Mason is a throwback to the old school and should have a solid outing on Monday Night Football.

Hines Ward vs. Bengals
Ward is having one of the best seasons of his career. Fantasy owners are glad to have him these days.

Tight End

Brent Celek @ Chargers
Always start your tight end when he plays against the Chargers.

Sit 'em

Quarterbacks

Carson Palmer @ Steelers
This game could be more about the running game than the passing game for Cincinnati, especially on the road.

Kyle Orton @ Redskins
Now that the Broncos appear to be who we thought they were, Orton becomes a risky start for fantasy owners.

Running Backs

Julius Jones @ Cardinals
Perhaps Julius Jones would be better suited with the Jags because he tends to fair unwell on the road.

Kevin Smith @ Vikings
Minnesota is coming off a bye and returning to the comfort of home; This may as well just be another bye week.

Wide Receivers

Austin Collie/Pierre Garcon vs. Patriots
Not sure how these rookies will fair against a scheming defense as good as the Pats.

Roy Williams @ Packers
Williams clearly has become a lesser option in the Cowboys' passing game.

Tight End

Jason Witten @ Packers
Witten owners can thank me after this weekend. My sit advice when it comes to studs usually ends up rejuvenating the player.

Daily Haze: Thursday Night Football Start and Sit

Bears and 49ers tonight for those of you unaware. Get those fantasy lineups set if need be!

Good to have real football back on Thursday nights. This is the first Thursday night game since the opening week of the season and has some pretty interesting storylines.

First of all, can the Bears get back on track? Sure, Jay Cutler threw three touchdowns last week, but most of that came well after the game was out of hand. Chicago needs to find some defense early in tonight's game to give Cutler and that offense a chance.

Oh Matt Forte, where hast thou gone? Fantasy owners continue to question your supposed first-round talent and rightfully so. Perhaps he gets a chance to score tonight if the Bears defense can keep the game competitive.

The 49ers also are a team on the decline lately, despite playing well in a few close losses. San Fran nearly knocked Indianapolis from the ranks of the unbeaten two weeks ago behind a strong start from Alex Smith .

Speaking of Smith, he, Vernon Davis, and Michael Crabtree form a young, promising triumvirate of future fantasy goodness—not to mention Frank Gore and the rookie Glen Coffee. This offense could become a hotbed of fantasy football talent for years to come if Smith can keep it together.

Start 'em

Vernon Davis, TE, 49ers

With Owen Daniels out for the season, Davis has become the No. 1 fantasy tight end in standard formats. Seriously, who isn't starting this guy?

Matt Forte, RB, Bears

I know he has underperformed, but you cannot argue against the volume of touches he receives. He continues to be the only legitimate option in that backfield.

Alex Smith, QB, 49ers

Typically, the 49ers' passing game is not one on which to be bullish. But the Bears give it up through the air. Jay Cutler is a great start, as well, but you already knew that.

Sit 'em

Bears DST

In case you were wondering, the Bears defense is no longer an elite unit and should not be used for fantasy purposes.

Here are today's great reads:

* After losing for the second consecutive week, perhaps the Broncos are who we thought they were at the beginning of the season. [The Big Lead]

* Week 10 positional rankings for fantasy owners , including the 49ers' tight end mentioned above as this week's best option at the position. [Roto Arcade]

* Another look back at week nine target information for those needing a little extra receiver research. [Pancake Blocks]

* Matchups fantasy owners will be drooling over in the coming weeks. Those planning on playing in the fantasy playoffs this year should have a look. [The Fantasy Football Geek Blog]

* If that is not enough for playoff-hopeful fantasy owners, more fantasy football playoff prep is available. [Bruno Boys]

* For those of you interested in an Aaron Rodgers interactive sack tracker . Man, that dude gets hit a lot. [Deadspin]

Bye Week Plug-and-Plays for Week 10

The starting roster scramble is about to begin in earnest for fantasy football owners.

With more teams observing bye weeks of the 2009 NFL regular season this weekend, fantasy owners will spend precious team management time plugging holes in rosters left by idle players .

Complicating matters for several owners are injuries to both starting fantasy players and those on the bench. Those in an extreme pinch will need to seek salvation from the waiver wire in order to make it through the weekend.

Let the hysteria begin.

There is hope, however. Many a fantasy owner has had to strategically manipulate the waiver wire to find the perfect plug-and-play starter over the years. We all have been there.

Usually it happens with the least carried positions on fantasy rosters: tight ends, kickers and defenses. However, those with rosters decimated by injuries will need more than a one-week stop gap at the least valuable fantasy positions.

Scouring the waiver wire for the right plug-and-play is risky business, but there are several players who could fit the bill this weekend.

Week 10 Byes

Texans: Matt Schaub, Steve Slaton, Andre Johnson
Giants: Eli Manning, Brandon Jacobs, Ahmad Bradshaw, Steve Smith, Mario Manningham, Hakeem Nicks

Potential Week 10 Plug-and-Plays

The players listed below are unowned in a majority of fantasy football leagues and have favorable match-ups in week 10. Any one of these guys is worth a start this weekend for an in-need fantasy football owner.

Quarterbacks

Chad Henne v. Buccaneers
Passing is inconsistent in Miami with the Wildcat offense, but the Bucs’ D can be had through the air. Perhaps a trick touchdown pass/catch is in the cards for Henne?

Alex Smith v. Bears
Smith and the 49ers play at home on Thursday night against the Bears. Smith has been putting up good fantasy numbers despite losing.

Running Backs

Jamaal Charles @ Raiders
Larry Johnson is gone for good but was it a vote of confidence for Charles?

Justin Fargas v. Chiefs
As long as Darren McFadden continues to sit out Fargas will continue to be a decent option for a desperate owner.

Wide Receivers

Terrell Owens/Lee Evans @ Titans
Either of these guys could be floating on waivers in some leagues, and both could be good plays this weekend.

Steve Breaston v. Seahawks
With Anquan Boldin out last weekend, Breaston cherished the opportunity. Maybe he will get another chance to start this weekend.

Tight Ends

Brandon Pettigrew @ Vikings
A breakthrough performance for Pettigrew last weekend or just an aberration? Vikings allow fantasy points to TEs.

Kickers

Jay Feeley v. Jaguars
Feeley has been one of the most consistent kickers in fantasy this year and should get enough opportunities in this one.

Defense/Special Teams

Dolphins v. Buccaneers
Sure Josh Freeman was good in his first start at home, but going on the road against a tough-ish D should be a different story.
