Start'Em: Jason Avant a Waiver Wire Pickup | NFL Fantasy Football Rankings

It's been a while coming for Eagles' slot receiver Jason Avant to get his chance to help fantasy football owners to victory. For the past four seasons Avant has been a non-reinvent backup receiver, but now it appears that this young player is ready to produce in fantasy lineups.

Last week fantasy stud receiver DeSean Jackson suffered a concussion, and upon his absence quarterback Donovan McNabb looked Avant's way more often.

Now, Jackson has come out and told the press he doesn't believe he will be ready to face the Falcons' fantasy friendly secondary. This will leave the door open for Avant to cash in and help fantasy owners to the playoffs.

Three Solid Weeks

Last week wasn't the first game Avant put up decent fantasy numbers, as he's been solid for the past three in a row. Over that span Avant has been targeted twenty times and has seventeen receptions off of those targets.

Three weeks ago against the Chargers , Avant had eight catches for 156 yards receiving. The next week against the Bears he scored a touchdown and last week he had a good stat line again.

With Jackson out of the lineup, I wouldn't be surprised to see McNabb target Avant at least nine times in this game. The Falcons aren't that bad against the run but have struggled against the pass in the last couple months.

A big reason for this is because the Falcons have suffered key injuries in the secondary and haven't been able to slow down opponents in the passing game since.

Look for Avant to make a run at 100 yards receiving and a touchdown score this weekend.

Beyond Atlanta

Upon Jackson's return Avant's fantasy football value will drop. Jackson is by far the best receiver on the team, and Avant is usually used as the slot receiver in the offense.

As long as Jackson is out of the lineup I would suggest you use Avant but when he returns expect Avant's numbers to be sporadic.

Week 13: 2009 NFL Team Power Rankings | Fantasy Football Team Rankings

What a game it was to see the Saints stomp all over the Patriots in all phases of the game. Drew Brees headlined a monumental victory that has now officially put New Orleans on the map of truly elite football teams.

As for Tom Brady and the Patriots, I haven't given up hope for them to make a playoff run, but the defense needs to step it up.

Below we have a short write up on the top 10 teams on our power rankings for this season. These teams are important to know as they are playing well and should continue to help fantasy teams.

Furthermore, pay attention to the worst teams on the list, as they are the teams you want to have your players going against down the stretch.

1. Saints (11-0)

After a huge decisive win against the New England Patriots, the Saints are now atop our NFL power rankings once again. Drew Brees probably won the MVP award after he blasted the Patriots' defense for five touchdowns and 371 yards, all with only 23 pass attempts!

This was an amazing performance and was one of those games that will be looked back on for a long time when people mention Brees and the Saints from this era. Look for New Orleans to roll over the Redskins next week and move to 12-0.

2. Colts (11-0)

The Colts haven't won games in a pretty fashion the last month or so, but they have won them all. The Saints were this way until they stomped on the Patriots in a big time, nationally televised game.

This upcoming week, the Colts will host the Titans in a clash of two strong teams. Look for the Colts to find a way to pull out another close victory.

3. Vikings (10-1)

It's almost hard to remember that the Steelers actually beat this team as the Vikings have played so well since that game. I had to look back at the schedule just to remember who actually beat this great team from Minnesota.

The Steelers had a few lucky turnovers and won the game in the fourth quarter, and I would suspect that is the only way a team can beat this squad. The Vikings are firing on all cylinders and are taking no prisoners.

Expect them to beat the Cardinals in Arizona this weekend by a decent margin.

4. Chargers (8-3)

This is a team I truly thought would never reach the top five teams in the NFL power rankings after the first month of play. Since losing to the Broncos in Week Six, the Chargers haven't lost a game and are winning in convincing fashion.

I fully expect them to smash the Browns next week in Cleveland. Get your fantasy football players in for that game.

5. Bengals (8-3)

After a quick dip to the Raiders two weeks ago, the Bengals polished off the Browns at home. With Cedric Benson out, the team turned to Bernard Scott and Larry Johnson to put the game away.

Both running backs had strong games and Johnson ran for over 100 yards. This week Benson is back and Scott has turf toe, so expect the Bengals to run Johnson and Benson together. There is no reason they shouldn't beat the Lions this weekend.

6. Cowboys (8-3)

The Cowboys need to beat the Giants this weekend if they are going to win their division. Dallas has already lost to the Giants this year, and if they lose this game they will only be one win better than the Giants.

That means if the Giants should mount a comeback and have the same record as Dallas, then they will win the division. Look for the Cowboys to run the football and control the clock on the road.

7. Patriots (7-4)

Watching the Patriots get rolled over by the Saints only goes to show you that this team does not have the defense to be called a Super Bowl caliber team right now. I will never put it past this organization to make a run in the playoffs, but right now they are not a top five team in the NFL power rankings.

8. Cardinals (7-4)

The Cardinals lost a heartbreaker to the Titans without Kurt Warner on the field. This weekend they may be without Warner again as they take on the Vikings at home. If the Cardinals lose this week and the 49ers win, then next week will be a huge game between the two in San Francisco.

It's still a long shot for the 49ers to win the division, but if they do beat the Cardinals next week they will have the season sweep against them. If both teams come down to a tie in their records at the end, then the 49ers would win the division in that scenario.

9. Eagles (7-4)

The Eagles pulled out a win against the lonely Redskins , but they had to do it in comeback fashion. In that game DeSean Jackson suffered a concussion and may miss this week's tilt against the Falcons in Atlanta.

Even if Jackson is out, I expect the Eagles to win the game with Matt Ryan and Michael Turner likely out.

10. Broncos (7-4)

The Broncos were able to stop their four game skid on Thanksgiving against the Giants, and they won in convincing fashion. It looks like quarterback Kyle Orton is back and healthy, as he had no problems finding his receivers all game long.

Expect the Broncos to make quick work of the Chiefs this weekend in Kansas City.

Week 12: NFL Regular Season | Fantasy Football Player Rankings

It looks like the Tennessee Titans are alive and well for the 2009 season after all. With Vince Young leading the team to its fifth straight win this week, they still have a chance for the playoffs.

Next week the Titans play against the Colts , and that matchup should be another close game for the Titans that comes down to the end of the game.

Below I have some observations from the 12th week of the regular season and how I see those points of interest playing out from a fantasy perspective.

Brandon Jacobs: A Huge Disappointment

Hopefully this season doesn't mark the end of a short stay in the top 20 fantasy football running backs for Brandon Jacobs . This season only marks the third year that Jacobs has been the starting tailback for the Giants , and fantasy owners have been very disappointed in this big back's performance.

Coming into this season, Jacobs was a clear top 12 fantasy running back after he had a big year in 2008.

Sure, Jacobs missed three games last year and has always been a little injury-prone, but you could count on him to have some big rushing days and always score touchdowns. Those expectations were backed by his four games with over 100 yards and 15 touchdowns from a year ago.

This year, through week 12 of the fantasy football season, Jacobs has zero 100-yard games and only three touchdown scores.

Because of his lack of production, the Giants were rolled over by the Broncos and have lost five of their last six games.

If Jacobs can't turn his season around, I fully expect the Giants to miss the playoffs this season.

From a fantasy perspective, I wouldn't recommend starting this runner until he starts showing signs of playing the way his is capable.

Justin Forsett Is Taking Over

For the third game in a row, Seahawks second-year running back Justin Forsett has had a solid fantasy football week. In this game he shredded the Rams defense for big plays and touchdowns in a win for Seattle.

Forsett has had a tough go to get into the starting lineup in the NFL as even the Seahawks released him after the preseason last year. After a short stay with the Colts , Forsett came back to the Seahawks and handled special teams duties at the end of the year.

This season Forsett has played strong all year, but until three weeks ago he was mostly used as a special teamer and a third down back.

Upon Julius Jones' injury against the Cardinals , Forsett has played very well for three straight weeks now.

Every week Forsett has had at least one touchdown, and in two of those games he has over 120 yards rushing. As long as Jones is out because of health reasons, Forsett will make for a solid fantasy play.

Week 13: NFL Waiver Wire Pickups | Fantasy Football Player Rankings

With Cedric Benson down for another week and Marshawn Lynch banged up, the door is open for production from backup running backs. At this time of year it is vitally important that you have your running game scoring well for you as you will need it to win a fantasy football championship.

While hot waiver pickups like Justin Forsett are probably long gone, you can still get players like Fred Jackson or Larry Johnson to help you out.

Below we have the top players you might want to pay attention to, for waiver pickups. Even if you don't select a waiver (or have already done so) it's good to keep these names in mind for the future weeks.

Quarterbacks

Dennis Dixon (Steelers)

The one time great quarterback for the Oregon Ducks received his first NFL start against the Ravens on Sunday night football. While this was not the ideal team to face on the road for your first real work as a quarterback Dennis Dixon did a good job.

Dixon threw a nice touchdown pass to Santonio Holmes and flashed his trademark running skills with a 24-yard scamper for a touchdown. If Ben Roethlisberger is out next week against the Raiders, Dixon should put up decent stats in his absence.

Running Backs

Fred Jackson (Bills)

Marshawn Lynch's backup Fred Jackson received a lot of play early in the year because of Lynch's suspension for the first three games of the season. Now, Jackson is receiving the starter work load once again with new head coach Perry Fewell calling the shots.

Last week against the Dolphins , Jackson totaled over 110 total yards from scrimmage and two rushing touchdowns. This was a huge difference to his counterpart in Lynch whom received only four touches for 15 total yards.

Look for Jackson to continue as the starting tail back next week in a great matchup against the Jets .

Larry Johnson (Bengals)

If Cedric Benson can't return from his hip injury next week against the Lions then expect Larry Johnson to have another solid game. Last week against the Browns , Johnson had 107 yards rushing on 22 carries.

Johnson should continue to be the top man for carries if Benson is out because he is a bigger runner than Bernard Scott. Look for Johnson to also be a threat to score from the goal line as well.

Wide Receivers

Mark Clayton (Ravens)

This is a desperate move, but if you're in great need of a receiver for your fantasy football team you might want to give Mark Clayton a try. Clayton seems to start showing up in production around this time every year and last week he had a good performance.

Against the Steelers, Clayton had seven catches for 129 yards. Next week he will play the Packers, and they are without Al Harris. Look for Joe Flacco to go Clayton's way a decent amount as Derrick Mason should be covered by Charles Woodson all game.

Jason Avant (Eagles)

If DeSean Jackson is out this week because of concussion issues than Eagles third receiver Jason Avant will start. Avant has had three solid weeks in a row and will get a decent amount of looks from Donovan McNabb.

Avant also has very good size and strength, this is an assest when you look at the other receivers around him that are skinny and undersized. Look for Avant to be a nice weapon for McNabb inside the red zone.

Dennis Dixon Supplants Ben Roethlisberger at QB | NFL Fantasy Football Rankings

Last week, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered a concussion in an overtime loss to the Chiefs . Once Roethlisberger left the game, the team turned the reigns over to steady veteran Charlie Batch to finish the game.

Unfortunately, for the Steelers, Batch suffered a wrist injury and will be out for the rest of the regular season. Because of this key injury, the team is now left with inexperienced but talented young quarterback Dennis Dixon to backup Roethlisberger.

Likely In, Likely Out

For most of the week, it looked like the Steelers would have their star quarterback under center for an all-important game on Sunday night against the Ravens. Roethlisberger passed all medical tests and was given a clear bill of health to play but in spite of all that on Friday Big Ben told his coach that he might not play.

Roethlisberger needed to sleep on his decision to play and on Saturday mourning Fox Sports' Jay Glazer broke the news that the Steelers would be without their star quarterback for this week's game.

Now Pittsburgh is faced with starting second year quarterback Dixon, who has thrown one completion (last year) in his short NFL career.

In the Heat of the Night

While Dixon had a fabulous career with the Oregon Ducks , he will now be tested against one of the best defenses the NFL has to offer in his first career start. The Ravens thrive on playing offenses that have problems stretching the field with the deep passing game.

If the Steelers are not able to make the Ravens' respect the passing game down the field then Ed Reed and the secondary players will sit on the Steelers short passing routes.

Not only that but when the Ravens are able to play that kind of game you can forget about running the football with regular effectiveness.

One of Dixon's weapons that should give the Ravens problems is his ability to move out of the pocket and pick up first downs with his legs.

The main question for Dixon is will he be able to handle playing at the NFL speed?

Fantasy Outlook

Unless you don't have good options on your bench, I would suggest you bench your Steeler fantasy players for this contest. We don't know what Dixon will be able to do, but in a game like this, on the road, the odds are that it won't be good.

That is not to say that Dixon can't be a good quarterback in the future but in this game, I'm not sure he can sustain drives down the field to give fantasy owners the stats they need for success.

Next week the Steelers will face the Raiders in Pittsburgh and in that game if Dixon is in you should definitely get your main players in.

Colts: Joseph Addai Is Taking Over | NFL Fantasy Football Rankings

Last season was a horrible failure for fantasy football owners with Joseph Addai . Injuries and poor play stripped away what could have been a second solid season in a row for the talented running back from LSU.

For the 2008 season, Addai only averaged 3.5 yards per carry and totaled just 544 yards rushing for the season. Not only did Addai fail to produce on the ground, but he only scored seven touchdowns on the year.

Because Addai was a first round pick in just about every fantasy draft that season he was one of the worst busts of the '08 fantasy football season.

Turning Things Around

Many fantasy owners were gun shy of drafting Addai this year because of his poor production in '08 and the fact that the Colts drafted Donald Brown in the first round.

For those fantasy owners that did take a chance on Addai, they have been pleasantly surprised with his consistent play this year.

Sure he's not lighting the world on fire, but he does have ten total touchdowns already and he's taking over more of the work load from Brown.

Because of Addai's consistent workload and the fact that he is the goal-line runner for the team, I fully expect him to continue his solid play for the rest of the season. Addai may not be the most explosive back in fantasy football, but he is one of the more consistent.

That makes him an excellent No.2 running back for your fantasy team and he should be drafted somewhere around the top five rounds in many fantasy leagues next season.

Week 12 in the NFL is all about the Monday night contest between the Saints and Patriots . No doubt we should see a shootout that should rival the Patriots vs. Colts game we saw a few weeks ago.

This week we have our weekly section on wounded warriors, as well as our top rankings for top position players. We have the top 16 ranked QB, TE, K, and D/ST. We also have the top 30 RBs and top 35 WRs as well.

Wounded Warriors

Quarterbacks

Lions—Matthew Stafford

Unfortunately, Matthew Stafford injured his collarbone in the Lions' come from behind victory against the Browns . Even more disappointing for Stafford is that he was just starting to find his grove with over 400 yards passing and five touchdowns in that game.

It looks like Stafford will miss this week's early contest on Thanksgiving, but he will hopefully be back for week 13.

Broncos—Kyle Orton

The Broncos ' starting quarterback Kyle Orton didn't start the game against the Chargers , but he did finish it. On Monday Orton practiced with the team and should play on Thanksgiving against the Giants.

Steelers—Ben Roethlisberger

The Steelers' star quarterback suffered a concussion in overtime against the Chiefs . So far, signs look good for Ben Roethlisberger's odds of playing this week at Baltimore.

If he is unable to go, then Dennis Dixon will get the start because Charlie Batch is out for the next six weeks.

Cardinals—Kurt Warner

The Cardinals lost Kurt Warner to a mild concussion against the Rams in the first half. It looks like Warner should play against the Titans, but if he is unable to go, then Matt Leinart would start.

Rams—Marc Bulger

Just as the Rams were starting to play some solid football, they lose their starting quarterback for three to six weeks with a fractured tibia. This will probably end Marc Bulger's season, as the team will look to Kyle Boller the rest of the way.

Running Backs

Falcons—Michael Turner

The Falcons are still playing mind games about Michael Turner's status. At this time, I would say he won't be a go unless he can practice in full at some point this week. The likelihood of him playing or practicing this week is not strong.

Look for Turner to probably not play, as Jason Snelling will have a great start this week against the Buccaneers.

Bengals—Cedric Benson

It's unknown if Cedric Benson will play this week against the division rival Cleveland Browns . Just like Turner's situation, I believe we will need to see Benson practice in order for him to play.

If Benson doesn't play this week, then Bernard Scott should have another productive day against the Browns.

Seahawks—Julius Jones

The news on Monday from Seattle is that Julius Jones is supposed to come back to practice this week. Being able to practice and handling contact are two separate things for Jones in his situation.

Against the Cardinals, he injured his ribs and had been bleeding in his lung.

Look for Jones to practice, but don't be surprised if he doesn't play this weekend. If he does suit up this week, I would be very surprised if he starts over Justin Forsett .

Bills—Marshawn Lynch

The Bills lost their starting running back in the middle of last week's game against the Jaguars. For now, the Bills are saying that Marshawn Lynch is day to day with a shoulder injury.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lynch plays this week against the Dolphins, but check his status before their early game on Sunday.

Wide Receivers

Lions—Calvin Johnson

This is probably the most unfortunate injury of the week, as Calvin Johnson was just getting his groove back. In Johnson's great performance against the Browns, he injured his hand and knee again.

Right now, it is believed that he is very doubtful to play in the Lions' early Thursday game on Thanksgiving. Hopefully, the Lions and fantasy football owners will get Johnson back for week 13.

Last week was definitely a weird one in the world of fantasy football. Players like Bernard Scott and Jason Snelling came out of the wood work and helped fantasy owners win crucial games down the stretch of the season.

We even saw a flash from the past as players like Ricky Williams and Chris Chambers help lead their teams to victory.

Below we have a short write up on the top ten teams on our power rankings for this season. These teams are important to know as they are playing well and should continue to help fantasy teams.

Furthermore, pay attention to the worst teams on the list as they are the teams you want to have your players going against down the stretch.

1. Colts (10-0)

The Colts made it out of Baltimore with another victory but just barely as they won the game 17 to 15. This upcoming week the Colts will travel to Houston to take on the Texans . The last time these two teams played in Indianapolis the Colts won a close game.

Look for the Texans to give the Colts everything they can handle, and I wouldn't be surprised if they win.

2. Saints (10-0)

The Saints beat the Buccaneers for their tenth win of the season. Next week they will play the Patriots on Monday night, and I believe they will lose that game.

Fortunately the Saints will get back key players on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. Drew Brees should have a huge fantasy football scoring day against the Patriots, as the game will be a scoring extravaganza.

3. Vikings (9-1)

If it wasn't for the Saints and Colts being undefeated the Vikings would be on the top of our list of the power rankings. This team is strong in just about every category, and this team should have home field advantage in the NFC when the regular season is over.

With Brett Favre playing on top of his game and Adrian Peterson in the backfield the Vikings should roll to the super bowl.

4. Patriots (7-3)

The Patriots bounced back strong after losing to the Colts at the last minute. This week they should put up a big scoring game against the New Orleans Saints on Monday night.

Look for Brady, Moss and Welker to have big days as the Patriots need to put up a lot of points to win in New Orleans.

5. Chargers (7-3)

Since losing to the Broncos in Week Six the Chargers have won their last five games. Just when you thought this team was down for the count with a bad offensive line, a defense that couldn't stop the run, and LT not playing up to his standards, they turn it all around.

Expect the Chargers to win the AFC West and probably finish in the AFC with the third- or fourth-best record.

6. Bengals (7-3)

After two big division wins the Bengals dropped a disappointing game to the Raiders in Oakland . This week they will come back home and play their final game in their division for the regular season against the Browns .

Look for Bernard Scott to continue as the starting tail back if Cedric Benson is out for this week. Carson Palmer and Chad Ochocinco should have strong games.

7. Cardinals (7-3)

The Cardinals are moving past the Cowboys in our NFL power rankings more because Dallas has played that bad than the Cardinals have played that good. Last week the Cardinals held on to beat the Rams without Kurt Warner , but it wasn't pretty.

It looks like Warner will be a go this week against the Titans , and that is good because they wouldn't win this game without him.

8. Cowboys (7-3)

This season has been a major up-and-down year for the Cowboys' passing game. All of a sudden defenses are putting their top corner on Miles Austin , and he is having problems beating coverage.

If the Cowboys' struggle on Thanksgiving against the Raiders I wouldn't be surprised.

9. Steelers (6-4)

The Steelers lost a gimme game against the Chiefs, and one has to think it's because they failed to dominate in the running game. Rashard Mendenhall is a capable running back, but if the Steelers don't start showing a need to run the ball they will lose more games like this past week to the Chiefs.

Sooner or later the Steelers will have to run the ball to either keep Ben Roethlisberger healthy or because Roethlisberger is knocked out and injured.

10. Eagles (6-4)

The Eagles make it back to the top ten teams on our NFL power rankings because the Broncos are backsliding into outer space.

This past week the Eagles won a hard-hitting road game and proved they could run the football when they needed to. Running the ball is very important for all teams in the NFL, and now that the Eagles have shown success under pressure, it should help open up the deep ball again.

Week 12: Start'em Sit'em | NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings

Injuries are starting to set in over the past few weeks and fantasy football owners are challenged to find key players to help them win games. Making that crucial start or waiver pickup can make the difference between not reaching the playoffs and winning a championship.

Not to toot my own horn, but I was reminded of this just this past week when I lost Cedric Benson and Michael Turner . I needed some running backs and picked up Justin Forsett and Bernard Scott .

At first I wanted to start Forsett over Scott but later realized that Scott was the better player for my private league because of his matchup. If I would have started Forsett, I would have tied in starter points against my opponent and lost on bench points. Starting Scott was the difference for victory.

Hopefully, your team won't come down to decisions like that but every once in awhile your challenged with making those kinds of decisions. Thankfully, for my team that decision worked out.

Week 12: NFL Waiver Wire Pickups | Fantasy Football Player Rankings

Last week was all about big-name running backs getting injured and this week is all about quarterbacks. Both Ben Roethlisberger and Kurt Warner suffered varying degrees of concussion problems last week. Hopefully, you have a decent backup quarterback in case your stud can't play this weekend.

Below we have the top players you might want to pay attention to for waiver pickups. Even if you don't select one (or have already done so), it's good to keep these names in mind for the future weeks.

Quarterbacks

Matt Leinart (Cardinals)

Some owner probably has Matt Leinart stashed away in your fantasy football league, but if he is available, you should nab him. Starter Kurt Warner suffered a concussion against the Rams this past Sunday and Leinart finished the game.

Even though Warner says he will play Week 12, it is a good idea to have Leinart as a backup. If Warner should suffer another head injury, then Leinart will be the start for the rest of the fantasy football season.

Dennis Dixon (Steelers)

Ben Roethlisberger suffered a concussion and back Charlie Batch injured his wrist and will be out for the next six weeks. At this time, the signs are good that Roethlisberger can play this coming week, but it is definitely not official yet.

If Roethlisberger is down, then the team will probably look to Dennis Dixon to start this week against the Ravens. If you get points for rushing yards from your quarterback, then Dixon has added value in those leagues.

The Steelers are also looking into signing veteran Jeff Garcia and he is worth a look, as well, if he is signed.

Matthew Stafford (Lions)

Now that Calvin Johnson appears to be healthy again, Matthew Stafford makes for a decent waiver pickup for depth. Even though Stafford threw for over 400 yards and five touchdowns last week, I wouldn't recommend starting him right now.

At the end of his great game against the Browns , Stafford injured his collar bone and is questionable for Thanksgiving. Even if Stafford wasn't hurt, this kid isn't reliable enough to start over so many other solid quarterbacks this season.

Just the same, he does make for a decent backup for your team, and if he catches fire down the stretch and your usual starter goes down with an injury, Stafford could help you.

Running Backs

Rock Cartwright (Redskins)

Clinton Portis may not play again this season because of concussion problems and Ladell Betts tore his ACL and MCL last week. Once Betts was out of the game, Rock Cartwright took over as the starting tailback.

The Redskins still have a couple of games on their schedule that could help a running back perform well for your fantasy football team. Look for Cartwright to give you good depth on your team.

Wide Receivers

Terrell Owens (Bills)

Many fantasy football owners have given up on Terrell Owens weeks ago, but the former star fantasy receiver has picked it up of late. This past week, Owens had a 98-yard touchdown catch and nearly 200 yards receiving. Even the week before, he had a decent 85 yards against the Titans.

With a new head coach on the team, Owens may see more looks in the game plan every week. If he is sitting out on your waiver wire, I would pick him up in a heart beat. This surge may not be for real, but it's worth finding out while he's on your bench and not someone else's.

Chris Chambers (Chiefs)

I recommended that owners go out and pick up Chris Chambers two weeks ago, and now I'm saying it again. With Dwayne Bowe still out another three weeks because of a suspension, Chambers is the No. 1 receiver on the Chiefs.

This veteran has now had three productive games in a row with his new team and should continue to be productive. If you need a receiver, then I suggest finding out if Chambers is still available.

Kickers

Billy Cundiff (Ravens)

The former Cowboy kicker Billy Cundiff was signed this past week by the Baltimore Ravens. This signing took place after the team lost faith in former kicker Steven Hauschka and cut him from the team.

In Cundiff's first game, he was 5-of-6 on field goal attempts and has now solidified his spot on the team. Look for Cundiff to continue his success, as Baltimore is a good place for a kicker to score points.

Week 11: NFL Regular Season | Fantasy Football Player Rankings

This week was all about wide receivers that have had horrible fantasy football and NFL seasons, but finally got something done. Terrell Owens, Greg Jennings, and Calvin Johnson all had huge games.

Hopefully, you had them in your lineups, because if you didn't, you're probably even more frustrated that they produced while on your bench.

Below I have some observations from the eleventh week of the regular season and how I see those points of interest playing out from a fantasy perspective.

Ricky Williams a Top-Ten Fantasy Football Running Back

Now that Brown is out of the way, Williams can turn up his fantasy production into high-gear for the rest of the season. Tonight, on short rest (Thursday game), Williams ran the football 22 times for 119 yards and two rushing scores.

Running wasn't the only part of Williams' game, as he had two receptions for 19 yards and a touchdown in the passing game.

Not only did Williams put the numbers up, but he took snaps out of the quarterback position for the Wildcat offense.

Look for Williams to continue his surge of fantasy football production next week against the Buffalo Bills ' horrible run defense.

Browns Down and Out...Really?

If you just went by this week alone and looked at the stats from the Cleveland Browns, you wouldn't know they are one of the worst offenses in football.

In this contest, the Browns' young quarterback, Brady Quinn, threw for over 300 yards and four touchdowns. He would have led his team to victory if it wasn't for Stafford throwing a touchdown pass with no time left on the clock.

Rookie wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi benefited from Quinn's strong game for 115 yards and a long-bomb touchdown.

This was a very nice game for the Browns, but I wouldn't expect them to have many strong games the rest of the season.

Stafford Leads Lions to Victory on Injured Shoulder

Everyone associated with the Detroit Lions should feel good about the performance of rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford. On Sunday, Stafford threw the football for 422 yards passing and five touchdowns.

Not only did Stafford have a strong game, but his final touchdown was thrown on a very bad shoulder. The play before the game-winning touchdown, Stafford was driven into the ground by a Browns defender and injured his non-throwing shoulder.

This was an effort that showed everyone in the Lions organization that Stafford is committed to winning football games.

Steve Slaton is Back In the Saddle Again | NFL Fantasy Football Rankings

This season has been a bumpy ride for Texans star running back Steve Slaton . The season low for fantasy football owners with Slaton had to be when he was benched against the Bills and Ryan Moats had a huge game.

Because of Slaton's fumbling issue's head coach Gary Kubiak continued to go with Moats as his starter when the Texans faced off against the Colts a week later.

Bye Week Magic?

After the Texans lost a close game to the Colts they went into their week ten bye with question marks still looming around their running game.

Over this time off Slaton was busy working on his ball handling skills and watching film of Tiki Barber running the football. Barber was a smaller running back like Slaton and in the early part of his starting career, he had trouble holding onto the football.

Barber corrected his fumbling mistakes with a new ball holding technique, and it saved his career as a starting runner.

Not only did Slaton watch film of Barber, but he went back and talked to old college coaches from West Virgina to see if they had any pointers on what he was doing different.

This commitment and attention to detail must have paid off in the eye's of his head coach because two days before their Monday night game against the Titans , Slaton has officially won his starting job back.

Fantasy Game Plan for Using Steve Slaton

This week is a tough matchup for Slaton and the Texans running game, so I wouldn't recommend starting Slaton as more than a flex play at best. However, if Slaton shows that he has used his off time well and starts playing the way we all know he can then he could do some damage down the stretch.

After this week Slaton has the Colts, Jaguars , Seahawks , Rams and Dolphins for the rest of the fantasy football season. Those last three opponents listed are all games during the fantasy football playoffs.

Look for Slaton to shine now that he's back in the saddle again.

Falcons: Michael Turner Out, Jason Snelling In | NFL Fantasy Football Rankings

Let's face it, unless Michael Turner's ankle has a miraculous recovery this weekend, he will be out of action against the Giants . Turner's loss is a major blow to fantasy football owners that drafted him, as he was a top five selection on draft day.

With Turner out, the Falcons will turn to fullback—running back Jason Snelling to carry the load. Snelling filled in for Turner after he left the game last week against the Panthers .

Snelling carried the football 18 times, for 61 yards rushing, and a touchdown run against the Panthers. When you match his numbers against Turner's in the same game (nine carries for 111 yards), it is clear to see that Snelling isn't an explosive runner.

This running back's assets are his size and strength, which allows him to carry the football 20-plus times a game and get goal line work.

How Long Will Turner Be Out of Action?

The Falcons and Turner are refusing to put a timetable on when fantasy football owners can expect their stud running back in their lineups again. At this time, it looks like Turner will probably miss this week and next.

This is unfortunate, as we are in the final weeks of the regular season for fantasy, but at least it looks like he will be back for the playoffs. When you consider that some fantasy owners just lost Ronnie Brown for the season (hopefully you don't have both), this injury doesn't look so bad.

With Turner out and Jerious Norwood still limited in his return from a hip problem, Snelling will get plenty of work.

This week Snelling has a decent matchup against the Giants, but next week he has a gem against the Buccaneers . Assuming Turner or Norwood don't make miraculous recoveries and play next week, Snelling is a must start in that game.

Fantasy Football Outlook

If and when Turner can come back and play for the Falcons, it would be a good idea to hold onto Snelling, if he plays effectively. The Falcons won't use him as much as Turner, but if their star running back goes down to injury they would use him again.

Beyond that I would definitely get him in your lineups next week against the Buccaneers defense. That is a perfect game for a fantasy running back to give you solid production.

Cleveland Browns: Kick Them While They're Down—NFL Fantasy Football Rankings

I'm not someone that usually writes a downer piece about an organization or a team...but it's time to talk about the Cleveland Browns and their situation. After an embarrassing loss this past Monday night to the Ravens , it's easy to see why fantasy football owners will have continued success against the Browns.

This offseason, I was able to see some positives for the Browns and thought that they could be headed in the right direction.

I liked the fact that head coach Eric Mangini traded away his top five draft pick and received a bunch of picks in return. Not only did the Browns acquire more picks, but they also received some decent defensive players from the New York Jets .

Seeing that Mangini was the head coach of the Jets the prior season, it seemed to make sense that these players would make an impact.

When Cleveland finally selected their first round pick, they took Cal Bears star center Alex Mack . I believed this was another strong move (I still do) because it would give them another top talent on the offensive line.

Mangini did a nice job in New York building up his offensive line. This move only seemed to bolster both the passing and running games.

A Step Towards Success—A Step Towards Disaster

As the summer progressed, I believed that the Browns would be fine in the long run if they could get Brady Quinn and Braylon Edwards going. Quinn needed to establish himself as the clear starter on the team, while Edwards needed to re-establish himself as a true No. 1 receiver.

Unfortunately, both of those players failed to do so and by week five, Quinn was benched for Derek Anderson and Edwards was traded.

Prior to Anderson's benching after the team's week eight loss to the Bears, the offense was still struggling to produce. The sole bright spot on offense was the off and on play of rookie wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi .

Massaquoi was one of two receivers (other being Brian Robiskie) drafted in the second round by the Browns in April.

His highlight performance was against the Bengals in week four, as he totaled eight receptions for 148 yards. That game was the Browns best offensive performance of the season and this young Massaquoi led the way.

Unfortunately for Massaquoi, the team traded Braylon Edwards the following week and the rookie now has to deal with being the top receiver on the team. With that title, defenses will line up their best cornerback on you every week, and this top coverage hasn't helped Massaquoi's chances to produce.

Outside of Massaquoi's development, there isn't much else nice to say about this offense.

A Team Going Nowhere

With Quinn's arrival back in the starting lineup on Monday night, the team has become more conservative than ever. I'm not certain, but I can't remember more than maybe one play late in the game where the Browns threw a pass further than ten yards.

That is bad against just about every defense in football, and especially bad against the Baltimore Ravens. Just two weeks ago, the Ravens dominated the Denver Broncos as their offense tried a similar approach. Defenses will feed on an offense that can't challenge down the field.

If the Browns continue to play offense this way, and run the football ineffectively, than you should continue to start your fantasy players against this team.

As far as starting anyone on the Browns, I can possibly recommend Jamal Lewis or Massaquoi for this weekend. Both players aren't great, but they are getting an opportunity to play against the miserable Detroit Lions.

Rookie running back Chris Jennings is starting to take carries away from Lewis, and if Lewis should suffer an injury, Jennings might be worth a look.

Jennings isn't an explosive runner, but he should be able to handle the ball twenty plus times a game for the remainder of the season.

After this Season

It's clear that Mangini needs to leave this organization, as the Browns need a new outlook and fresh start. I'm not sure what it's going to take for this team to get going in a positive direction, but for starters, they could use a strong running game.

With a strong running game, they can prevent their defense from staying on the field for long periods of time. This will be key, as I can't see the passing game being dependable in the next few seasons.

In short, it's going to be a while before the Browns will turn things around, so in the meantime, start your fantasy defenses against them and enjoy.

Start'Em: Justin Forsett a Waiver Wire Gem | NFL Fantasy Football Rankings

The time has come for the Seattle Seahawks to start their best running back. Finally, Justin Forsett will be given an opportunity to produce as the starter and help fantasy football squads.

This opportunity has come about because of an unfortunate injury to Julius Jones last week against the Cardinals . In that game Jones injured his rib and went to the hospital with bleeding in his lung.

Forsett took over as the starter and went on to rush the football 17 times for 123 yards rushing and a touchdown. This production was excellent, especially when you consider that Cardinals were the third best team against the run coming into that game.

Beyond Forsett's solid rushing totals, he is also very good out of the backfield, as he's totaled five receptions in each of his last two contests.

Justin Forsett Equals Steve Slaton?

Forsett's skill set is very comparable to the way Steve Slaton played a season ago. When Slaton was on top of his game a year ago, he was one of the top 10 fantasy football running backs in the league.

Forsett may not be that good, but I fully believe he can be a top 20 fantasy back in the future. All he needs is an opportunity to show that he can handle the load and prove he can physically hold up to the challenge.

Fantasy Football Strategy

If Forsett is still a waiver wire option in your fantasy football league, then I suggest you nab him right now. This kid is an instant flex play option for this week, even if the Seahawks are playing the Vikings .

Minnesota's run defense is still solid this season (ninth in the league), but they are having problems dealing with runners that can get out on the edge. This is the reason why Ray Rice was able to gash this defense a few weeks back.

Not only has Rice had success against this defense, but Rashard Mendenhall and Kevin Smith have found success as well.

Forsett probably won't go over 100 yards rushing, but I wouldn't be surprised if he has over 100 total yards from scrimmage.

Next week Forsett has a great matchup against the Rams and is a no-brainer start.

Reports out of Seattle are saying that Jones may be ready for that game, but with his lung issue, that is wishful thinking right now.

If Forsett has success in the next two weeks, I wouldn't be surprised if Jones comes back and finds out that he's lost his starting job—reason being that Forsett is a better running back than Jones at this point in his career.

NFL Fantasy Rankings: The Fall of Ronnie Brown and Rise of Ricky Williams

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports today that Dolphins star running back Ronnie Brown has been placed on injured reserve. This is a major blow to the Dolphins and the team is now in jeopardy of missing the playoffs

With Brown down the Dolphins' success on offense will now hinge of the shoulders of Ricky Williams .

Williams has had one of the more checkered pasts of any sports player I can remember. From wearing a wedding dress on an ESPN cover with Mike Ditka to leaving the game to smoke weed around the world.

This guy has sure had some off the field notable's but he's also had success on the field in his career as well.

Turning a Career Around

Last year Bill Parcels gave Williams another chance to help the Dolphins and prolong his career after coming back from a yearlong suspension ( he actually came back in '07 but only played one game). In 2008 Williams ran hard and with conviction as he helped the Dolphins win their division and go to the playoffs.

This season Williams is running more effective than ever before and is helping fantasy football owners weekly.

So far, this season Williams has 105 carries for 558 yards rushing (5.3 yard per carry average) and six rushing touchdowns. Not only is Williams helping out in the run game, but he also has 18 receptions for 193 yards ( over ten yards a catch) and one touchdown.

These numbers are almost amazing for a running back that is now 32 years of age and supposedly on the tail end of his career.

Fantasy Breakdown Going Forward

With Brown out of the lineup Williams makes for a very strong fantasy football start every week. Not only will Williams see a majority of the touches and goal line opportunities, but he will play the Panthers and Bills these next two weeks.

Hopefully, you have Williams on your fantasy roster or at least don't have to play him in that time.

Williams now makes for a top-15 fantasy football running back for the rest of the season. He should get the ball 20-plus times a game and be a strong producer most weeks.

Week 11 Starter Help: NFL Fantasy Football | PPR & Standard Leagues

Now that the bye weeks are gone, fantasy football owners can finally start their entire team.

Well, maybe that isn't entirely true as a bunch of running backs went down with injuries this past weekend and will miss time.

Hopefully, your team didn't get blasted by these injuries (I know a few of my teams did), and you can roll on as usual.

This week we have our usual section on wounded warriors, as well as our rankings for top position players. We ranked the top-16 QB, TE, K and D/ST. We also have the top 30 RB's and top 35 WR's as well.

Wounded Warriors

Quarterbacks :

Broncos—Kyle Orton: First it was reported Kyle Orton would probably miss this week's game against the Chargers. Now the team is saying that Orton will start against the Chargers in a huge game for the division.

Look for Orton to be hobbled throughout the game and the Broncos will probably run the football a good amount.

Running Backs:

Eagles—Brian Westbrook: The Eagles may very well have lost Westbrook for the rest of the season with his second concussion in as many games. This is bad news for Westbrook as some are wondering if this will be career ending.

I do believe Westbrook will be back playing for someone next year, but I'm not sure he will play again (or should, for that matter) this season.

Look for LeSean McCoy to take over in the running game and be a factor for fantasy football owners going forward.

Seahawks—Julius Jones: The Seahawks will lose their top running back Julius Jones for at least a week or two. On Monday, the team announced that Jones had been bleeding in his lung.

Look for Justin Forsett to be the starting running back going forward, and I wouldn't be surprised if he keeps the job for the rest of the season. The former Cal standout had a big game against the Cardinals and is a better runner than Jones.

Bengals—Cedric Benson: The Bengals star running back injured his hip against the Steelers last week, but he may play this week. Cincinnati is looking to pickup Larry Johnson but will keep him on the inactive list every week.

As long as Johnson stays on the inactive list this is a good sign for Benson and his odds of playing this week. If Benson is out, look for backup Bernard Scott to start.

Falcons—Michael Turner: The Falcons are going to lose their star runner Michael Turner for at least a game or two with a high ankle sprain. Hopefully, Turner will be back soon and playing effective for fantasy owners.

This is a crushing blow to fantasy owners that are fighting to make the playoffs and have Turner.

Jason Snelling should get the start for the Falcons this weekend against the New York Giants.

Dolphins—Ronnie Brown: The Dolphins are already expecting Ronnie Brown to be out for this Thursday's game against the Panthers. Beyond that they are concerned that Brown could be out for longer.

Ricky Williams could have some big games ahead if Brown is, in fact, out for a while. The Dolphins get the Panthers and Bills in the next two weeks. What a horrible time to lose Brown.

Buffalo Bills: The Finished Dick Jauron Era and NFL Fantasy Football Rankings

This week the Buffalo Bills decided to fire head coach Dick Jauron. Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell will take over as interim head coach upon his promotion.

This season has been a complete train wreck for this organization, since they released LT Langston Walker and fired OC Turk Schonert just before the season began.

While Fewell's defense has struggled against the run because of injuries to their best run stuffers, they've been decent against the pass.

Change Has Come

Upon Fewell's promotion the team benched quarterback Trent Edwards and will use Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starter. Fitzpatrick did a good job of game management when he was starting.

Look for the Bills to run the football early and often with Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson as Fewell tries to keep his defense rested.

In the passing game Fitzpatrick should have no problem finding Lee Evans as the two already have good chemistry together.

Terrell Owens is a non-existant fantasy football option and is probably not worth a roster spot on your team. Now that Fitz is the quarterback, I wouldn't expect Owens to do much (other than maybe get cut from the team) for the rest of the season.

Beyond '09

After this season, the Bills need to do two things to get themselves back on track. First they need to get some offensive linemen and rebuild the once solid line they had a few years ago. Next they need to get some big boys in the middle of their defense to help stop the running game.

If they can do this then the Bills should be a competitive team once again in 2010.

For the rest of this season Lee Evans is an every week starter and Marshawn Lynch makes for a good play when he has a solid matchup.

Chiefs: Dwayne Bowe Suspended Four Games | NFL Fantasy Football Rankings

Dwayne Bowe was suspended today, November 17th, for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances. The suspension will last for the next four weeks and will no doubt effect fantasy football lineups across the world.

Fantasy Shakedown

In light of this suspension fantasy owners should look to receiver Chris Chambers to receive a bump in fantasy value. Now that Bowe is off the team for awhile, Chambers will receive more looks from quarterback Matt Cassel.

Look for Chambers to be a good bet for solid production most weeks during this four game stretch.

In Chambers first two games with his new team he has produced six receptions for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Those are solid numbers considering Chambers hasn't been with the Chiefs for two full weeks yet.

As far as Bowe is concerned you may want to hold onto him for the final weeks of the fantasy season. He is still a talented receiver and plays the Browns and Bengals the final two weeks of the fantasy season.

NFL 2009 Week 11: Team Power and Fantasy Football Rankings

The Patriots had the Colts right where they wanted them but in the end they gave the game away. A poor call by head coach Bill Belichick allowed Peyton Manning to have the ball at the 28 yard line as he cruised his team down for the winning touchdown.

This loss should allow the Colts to have home field advantage for the playoffs. It looks like the road to the Super Bowl will go through Indianapolis once again.

Below we have a short right up on the top ten teams on our power rankings for this season. These teams are important to know as they are playing well and should continue to help fantasy teams.

Furthermore, pay attention to the worst teams on the list as they are the teams you want to have your players going against down the stretch.

1. Colts (9-0)
Until the final minutes of the final quarter between the Colts and Patriots it looked like Indianapolis's undefeated season was done. Fortunately for the Colts they got the football back one more time and Peyton Manning hit Reggie Wayne for the winning touchdown.

This was a big game for the Colts' chances for home field through the playoffs. It was also a game that got Manning going again after a few slow fantasy games. At this time, the Colts are the better of the two undefeated NFL teams.

2. Saints (9-0)
The Saints are still undefeated but for the fourth week in a row they didn't have a strong game. This game was the most concerning close game as they were playing against the St. Louis Rams.

After the game head coach Sean Payton light into his team like they lost the game and in hind site he probably did the right thing.

Hopefully, the Saints will be able to start fast against the Buccaneers next week.

3. Vikings (8-1)
Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson and the Vikings' defense are firing on all cylinders right now and are a very good team. Look for the Vikings to play another spirited game against the Seahawks next week.

4. Bengals (7-2)
The Bengals are for real as they are now one victory against the Browns away from sweeping their division schedule this season. With a commanding lead in the AFC North, the Bengals are now looking to earn themselves a division championship and a first round bye in the playoffs.

Hopefully, Cedric Benson can return from his hip injury soon as they need their strong running game. If Benson continues to have problems than the team will lean on Bernard Scott and eventuality Larry Johnson.

5. Patriots (6-3)
I was ready to put the Patriots as possibly the top team in the power rankings before they lost at the end to the Colts. Even though the Patriots lost the game it is clear that they will be a factor when the playoffs come.

Look for Brady and the boys to put together a great ending of the fantasy football season for fantasy owners.

6. Steelers (6-3)
The Steelers have lost to the Bengals twice this season and are now two games back for the division lead. Look for the Steelers to bounce back and have a big scoring weekend this coming week against the Chiefs.

All Steeler players make for great fantasy plays this week.

7. Cowboys (6-3)
Last weeks loss to the Packers was a disappointment but I believe the Cowboys will get back on track this weekend. With a home game against the Redskins on deck all players on this team make for good starts on your fantasy team.

One player that fantasy football owners need to keep an eye on is Marion Barber. Barber had a relapse with his fractured thumb and is losing carries because of it.

8. Chargers (6-3)
The Chargers are one more win away from taking the division lead back from the Denver Broncos. So much for the Broncos six wins to start the season as they have now dropped their last three in a row.

I believe the Chargers will get it done in Denver and take the lead back.

9. Cardinals (6-3)
The Cardinals have now put two wins together, and they will face the St. Louis Rams this up coming week. This team's offense is starting to find another dimension as Chris Beanie Wells is becoming a force on the ground.

Look for Arizona to make easy work of the Rams next week and roll to their seventh victory of the season.

10. Broncos (6-3)
It took awhile before the Broncos fell apart and started to lose games, but it has finally come to pass. This teams Cinderella start is over, and they are now one win away from losing the once commanding lead in their division.

If Kyle Orton can't play in this up coming game than the Chargers should make easy work of the Broncos.

Justin Forsett finally got his chance to be the starting running back when Julius Jones went down early in the Seahawks contest against the Cardinals . Forsett broke out and rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown.

Not only did Forsett do a good job in the running game, but he flashed his receiving skills with five receptions for 26 yards.

Since Jones broke his ribs it is highly unlikely that he will play this coming weekend against the Vikings . Unfortunately, this matchup isn't a great one but Forsett is worth holding onto for the future.

Falcons- Jason Snelling

The Falcons will have to lean on running back Jason Snelling this coming weekend against the New York Giants . Michael Turner has a high ankle sprain and should be out for at least one game.

Look for Snelling to get the vast majority of the carries in the backfield and the goal line carries.

Bengals- Bernard Scott

The Bengals and Cedric Benson both say that Benson will be able to play this weekend against the Raiders. Benson suffered a hip injury against the Steelers and it was thought he might miss time because of the injury.

Look for the Bengals to rest Benson, and we will find out more on his true availability on Friday.

If Benson can't play than expect the Bengals to lean on rookie running back Bernard Scott.

Wide Receivers

Cowboys- Roy Williams

Many fantasy football owners cut bait on Roy Williams weeks ago, but in the past few weeks Williams has started to show life. This past week against the Packers, Williams had five receptions for 105 yards and a touchdown.

Now that Miles Austin is starting to see more attention from opposing defenses it is leaving Williams open on single coverage.

If Williams can stay focused and stop blaming others for his faults than maybe he can be a good receiver for your fantasy football team going forward.

Kickers

Titans- Rob Bironas

If someone in your league happened to give up on Rob Bironas early in the season, it would be a good idea to get him now. Bironas struggled to produce early on because his team had a horrible start.

Now, the Titans have clearly pulled it together and are starting to play good football again. Look for Bironas to have a solid second half of the fantasy season.

Week 10: Regular Season | NFL Fantasy Football Player Rankings

This week was highlighted by the AFC showdown between the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots . While it appeared to be the Patriots' game until the two minute warning, it was the Colts who ended the game victorious.

Both passing attacks had great games for fantasy football owners with players on both teams. Expect both teams to provide solid fantasy points moving forward.

Below I have some observations from the 10th week of the regular season and how I see those points of interest playing out from a fantasy perspective.

Fantasy Football Regular Season Week 10 Notes:

Rice and Peterson Dominate

It's time to say that Sidney Rice is the true No. 1 receiver for the Vikings this season. The third-year receiver is having a breakout season, and today he caught seven passes for 201 yards. This now gives Rice 786 yards receiving on the season already.

Start Rice every week from here on out and expect him to help you the rest of the way. Rice is a solid No. 2 receiver for fantasy football teams going forward.

Running back Adrian Peterson got things going this week as he posted 133 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Fantasy owners wanted to see Peterson get his production going again as he had a slow couple weeks against the Steelers and Packers .

Look for Peterson to put up a huge second half of the season and lead teams to the fantasy football playoffs.

Johnson goes for 100/100 Game

In this contest Chris Johnson put together another massive day as he had 132 yards rushing and 100 yards receiving.

On the ground, Johnson had 26 carries for the 132 yards and rushed for two touchdowns. In the passing game, Johnson had nine receptions for 100 yards.

This performance is the reason why Johnson will be the number one pick in many fantasy football leagues next year. His production is just too solid to ignore as he has the best skill set overall for fantasy owners.

Look for Johnson to continue his strong season as he helps fantasy owners win games and take them to the playoffs.

LT's Not Done Yet

This past week I wrote a column saying LaDainian Tomlinson was washed up and done as a fantasy football running back. I considered him to be nothing more than a flex play for the rest of the season and I felt the Chargers would let him go at year's end.

Today, Tomlinson had a much better game than we've seen from him this entire season as he had two touchdowns and 96 yards on the ground.

Unless this game marks a 180 degree turnaround for Tomlinson, I would suspect that he may have games like this from time to time. Beyond that, don't be surprised if he has some bad games as well.

Throwing the Football to Matt Forte | NFL Fantasy Football Rankings

Chicago Bears' running back Matt Forte has had a bust season for fantasy football owners in 2009. Forte was a top four draft pick in many fantasy leagues, and he's been unable to get things going most of the year.

Even this past week against the 49ers when Forte had 161 total yards from scrimmage, he only had 41 yards rushing on 20 carries.

For the season, Forte has 143 carries for 482 yards and a woefully bad 3.4 yards per carry. I don't believe Forte will do much better in this area for the rest of the season as his offensive line just doesn't run block well.

Beyond the line blocking issues the Bears will face the Eagles , Vikings , Rams , Packers , Ravens and Vikings for the rest of the fantasy football season.

The one strong matchup Forte has for the rest of the fantasy season (unless you're in a league that plays week 17 when the face the Lions) and that's not great news for fantasy owners.

Catching the Ball for Production

If Forte is going to be a consistent player for your fantasy team, then he will need to continue his production in the passing game.

In the past two weeks, Forte has 14 receptions for 194 yards in the air. This is especially useful for fantasy owners in PPR leagues as you receive points just for his catches alone.

Another area that needs to improve is Forte's touchdown total that stands at three for his first nine games of the year.

If Forte can sustain consistency in these area's than he can still help fantasy owners earn a playoff spot this season.

Fantasy Football Ranking for Matt Forte

Forte's fantasy football value has dropped from a top four pick this year to a No. 2 running back on your team for next year.

The Bears offensive line changes this offseason didn't do Forte any favors, and it seems the coaching staff is content with Jay Cutler slinging the football.

As long as Cutler continues to find Forte underneath than the Bears starting running back is still a starter in fantasy.

Look for Forte to help your team as the season winds down but don't expect him to be a driving force for your success.

LaDainian Tomlinson Is Washed Up: Fantasy Football Rankings

Last season fantasy football players could see that LaDainian Tomlinson had lost a step and wasn't the dominant player of years past. Before the preseason started, I was in Tomlinson's corner believing that he could mount a comeback this year.

I felt that his poor season (for his standards) was mainly because he chose to play on his turf toe injury that he suffered Week One of the season.

My thoughts about Tomlinson changed when I saw how he was running in the preseason. Each time Tomlinson was about to burst through the line and into the secondary he stumbled and went to the ground.

This was concerning because of his toe issue and the fact that he had a groin problem at the end of last season.

Before the Chargers third preseason game against the Falcons, head coach Norv Turner decided to sit Tomlinson for the game. Turner was concerned about running Tomlinson on the turf in Atlanta.

When I heard this, I was convinced that it was time to rank the once great running back down to at least a second round pick in ten to twelve team leagues.

From Bad to Worse

While Tomlinson didn't have a good preseason I never thought he would fall as hard as he has this season.

Just a season ago Tomlinson was one of only nine running backs to total over ten touchdowns and over 1,500 all purpose yards. As mentioned before, he posted those numbers while battling turf toe all year.

This season Tomlinson was injured in Week One against the Raiders and missed the next few games.

For the season Tomlinson has just 289 yards rushing on 91 carries and is averaging 3.2 yards per carry. Not only that, but Tomlinson's receiving totals are down to an all time low with nine receptions for only 40 yards.

This is not the running back that fantasy football players have known for so long, and I don't believe we will see that runner again.

Tomlinson's worst performance may have come last week against the Giants when he carried the football 12 times for only 22 yards. After the game, Tomlinson was even talking about retirement as he was questioning if he would ever play in New York again.

Star players are usually the last person to realize that they are washed up and done. Seeing that even Tomlinson is starting to acknowledge this is saying a lot about his future.

Fantasy Football Ranking for LaDainian Tomlinson

At best I would consider Tomlinson a flex play option for the rest of this season. There are already rumors that Tomlinson will be released after this season, and I believe that is what the Chargers will do.

This team needs a new running back to go with their stealer passing attack.

Tomlinson will continue to start for the rest of the season and, as always, has a chance to score at the stripe. Other than that this runner has seen his better days, and if he can't start playing better this year he should retire this offseason.

Week 10 Starter Help: NFL Fantasy Football | PPR & Standard Leagues

As we get deeper into the fantasy football season, every game starts to mean more for the playoffs. Hopefully, your fantasy team isn't relegated to the bottom of the barrel and you are in the mix for a championship run.

This week we have our weekly section on wounded warriors, as well as our top rankings for top position players. We have the top 16 ranked quarterbacks, tight ends, kickers and defense/special teams ranked. We also have the top 31 running backs and top 35 wide receivers as well.

Wounded Warriors

Running Backs

Eagles - Brian Westbrook - This past week Brian Westbrook missed the game against the Cowboys because he had a headache on Friday. If Westbrook continues to show effects from his recent concussion than the team will probably hold him out again.

Unfortunately, the Eagles won't be playing an early game this week as they go to the Chargers. Hopefully, we will find out his status before Sunday's game.

Redskins - Clinton Portis - Last week Clinton Portis left the game early with a concussion, and he is considered doubtful to play this coming week. Look for Ladell Betts to get the start in Portis's absence.

Raiders - Darren McFadden - The Raiders got their top running back Darren McFadden back at practice. It looks like McFadden will be a go this weekend against the Chiefs.

This is one of the few teams McFadden has had strong success against so if he plays, he might be a sneaky fantasy play.

Wide Receivers

Lions - Calvin Johnson - The Lions finally got their talented star receiver back on the field against the Seahawks but he only produced two receptions for 27 yards. It will probably take Johnson a couple of weeks to round back into shape so don't be surprised he is doesn't play up to his usual standers.

Bengals - Chris Henry - Cincinnati lost one of their receivers this week when Chris Henry broke his arm. Henry is likely done for the season and this won't help Carson Palmer's fantasy football value.

Palmer is having a good year for his team but isn't having a great fantasy season. The team is leaning more on running back Cedric Benson and their defense to win football games.

Look for Caldwell to receive more looks in the passing game with Henry's absence.

Week 10: 2009 NFL Team Power Rankings | Fantasy Football

As we move into Week 10 of the NFL season, there are still two teams that are undefeated and atop the power rankings. Outside of the Colts ' and Saints ' fabulous starts, we still have other teams like the Vikings , Patriots , Steelers , and even Bengals that are closing in on the rankings.

Below we have a short write-up on the top-10 teams on our power rankings for this season. These teams are important to know, as they are playing well and should continue to help fantasy teams.

Furthermore, pay attention to the worst teams on the list, as they are the ones you want to have your players going against down the stretch.

1. Saints (8-0)

Drew Brees and the Saints are still winning ball games, but the past three weeks they've been close to losing.

Looking past this team's recent struggles, it is easy to see they are vastly improved from last year. The big turnaround for this team is when they picked up defensive coordinator Greg Williams.

His impact on the defense has given them respectability on that side of the football, not to mention fantasy football relevance.

2. Colts (8-0)

Peyton Manning and the Colts' offense have slowed down in touchdown production the past two weeks. If they have any shot of staying undefeated this week against the Patriots, they will need to turn up the point-scoring once again.

3. Vikings (7-1)

Brett Favre has made a major impact on this team, as they now have balance on offense. With Favre at the helm, forgotten receivers like Sidney Rice have come out of the wood work and become fantasy starting players.

As long as Favre continues to stay healthy, this team will continue to roll and could be atop the NFL power rankings soon.

4. Patriots (6-2)

The Patriots' offense has come on strong in the past three games and Tom Brady is looking better all the time. If the Colts continue their struggles in scoring offense, I fully expect the Patriots to win this weekend.

Going forward, I wouldn't be surprised if the Patriots' defense gets stronger and they end up in the Super Bowl.

5. Steelers (6-2)

Sure the Bengals are 6-2 and have beaten the Steelers this year, but I'm still going with the champs. The Steelers proved on Monday night against the Broncos why they are still one of the best teams in football.

With the emergence of Rashard Mendenhall in the running game, the Steelers can now lean on the running game when they need to. I expect them to win this weekend against the Bengals.

6. Bengals (6-2)

This season has been a pleasant surprise for the Bengals. With Cedric Benson doing his best Rudi Johnson impersonation and the defense emerging, this team is ready for the playoffs.

Cincinnati has already beaten the Ravens twice this season and beat the Steelers. This week, they play the Steelers in Pittsburgh and I expect the Bengals to lose. If the Bengals do in fact win, they will be the clear favorite to win the AFC North.

7. Broncos (6-2)

The past two weeks have been tough for the once undefeated Denver Broncos. This weekend they should get healthy with a blowout win against the Redskins .

From a fantasy perspective, we need to see this team go down the field more often. Doing so will help the fantasy football values of Kyle Orton , Brandon Marshall , Eddie Royal, and Tony Scheffler.

8. Cowboys (6-2)

If the Cowboys can put two road wins together this weekend against the Packers , I will truly believe in their turnaround. As it stands right now, Dallas is the favorite to win the NFC East, as they are in first place.

Miles Austin has made a major impact on this team and will be a top-15 fantasy receiver coming into next year.

9. Falcons (5-3)

Having the Falcons ranked this high is very debatable, but I just believe they are the more balanced team of all the 5-3 teams. With Matt Ryan's steady play in the passing game and Michael Turner's re-emergence, this team is rolling.

10. Cardinals (5-3)

I would have the Eagles above the Cardinals if they can prove to me they can win without the big play in the air. For a team like the Eagles to drop a game to the Raiders is just not worthy of being in the top 10 right now.

While the Cardinals haven't run the ball well, they have proven they can win on the road this season. Because of their undefeated record on the road and solid run defense, I'm willing to give them a pass for their loss to the Panthers .

NFL Week 10 Fantasy Football Player Rankings: Start'em or Sit'em

This is the final bye weekend on the NFL schedule and only two team will be off. Both the Giants and Texans will be out this week so make sure your fantasy football players on these teams are out of your lineup.
