UFC 101: Anderson Silva Vs. Forrest Griffin

I have been filling my time with random posts such as Shaq and Beckham talk, and laughing at pregnant Hooters chicks, but it is now time to get down to business.

UFC 101 is getting close! It is just a few short weeks away. I am even more excited than normal because I will be in the stands.

The main event for this very impressive fight card is one that really makes sense. Anderson Silva has been looking for an opponent that will stand in front of him and fight. Joe Silva and the UFC filled this much needed void with none other than Forrest Griffin.

I was shocked when they announced this bout, but in a good way. This has the making to be an incredible battle.

Forrest Griffin is quickly taking over as the face of the UFC. Since his amazing fight with Stephan Bonnar he has continued to get better almost every time he steps into the cage. If he is going to have a chance in this one, then he will have to be the best he has ever been.

In this fight he will have the size advantage, but not as much as you would think. Anderson is a very long fighter that uses his reach very well. Being bigger may not be as much of an advantage as you would think.

If Forrest is going to win this fight, he will have to do his best Randy Couture impression. Where his size advantage could be a factor is in the clinch. I am not talking about the Anderson Silva vs. Rich Franklin clinch. I am talking about Silva having his back on the cage feeling the weight of Forrest.

If Forrest can do this, then he will able to push his own version of dirty boxing taking away the strengths of Silva. He could then control the fight and squeeze out a victory.

The only other way that Forrest could win is by using a suffocating ground game. Anderson is long and lanky. He is very strong but over three rounds he can be pushed, especially if that is on the ground.

Forrest Griffin has been specifically training and improving his wrestling. Don't be surprised if his game plan is to take the BJJ Black Belt down and smother him. He may not be able to submit him, but he could smother him, wear him down, and get that win.

When it comes to Anderson Silva, he is the best fighter in the world. He has not only cleaned out his division (twice), he is now having to bounce between two weight classes in search of competition.

Everyone knows his strengths, but if Silva is going to win this fight he should keep doing what is working.

Anderson can use his hands, feet, elbows, and knees to KO his opponent. As I said before he is a very long and lanky fighter, but his most under talked about asset is his quickness.

In most of his fights Anderson seems like he is dancing. That is exactly what he needs to do with Forrest. Dance all around the cage, using the angles created as windows to strike.

This is a three round fight. Silva can bounce around and avoid Forrest for that amount of time. The fans may not like it, and the boo birds may come out in force, but it is a sure way for Silva to get the win.

We also know that Forrest can be knocked out and Anderson has KO'd people. This is a very bad combination and could result for an unhappy evening for Forrest.

In terms of a prediction in this fight, I wish I could say Forrest, but I can't. Anderson Silva is the best fighter in the world. While I think he is due for a loss, I don't think it will be in this fight.

I think Silva's next loss will come at the hands of someone we don't expect. At some point Silva will under train and get caught. He will be his own worst enemy.

Forrest will give this one a go, and will make it a great fight for fans, but in the end Silva will be too quick. His striking is heads and shoulders above anyone in the UFC and in this fight he will show it again.

Shaq Wants to Take on Beckham? Becks...You Are Scared!

Shaquille O'neal is one of the most charismatic personalities in the entire sports world. On most days it seems like he gets whatever he wants. It looks like he now wants to take on David Beckham in a sport Shaq is calling "soccerball."

The Curtis and Kyle Show recently chronicled the one-sided conversation.

Turns out, Shaq thinks that his defense is strong enough to keep curveball kicking Beckham from scoring a soccer goal on him.

It is unsure if Shaq has ever done any goaltending of this nature, but one would think Shaq is biting off a bit more than he can chew.

The entire conversation can be found here.

Throughout the jabs, Shaq states that Beckham is scared, and "if your scared get a dog."

I for one don't think Becks is scared, but this could be a great move for the soccer guy. It could earn back some of the fans that he lost in his recent war of words with a fan.

Obviously, this is all a ploy for Shaq to stay in the news and promote his upcoming show.

UFC 100 Link Dump: The Best of The Best

UFC 100 is going to be a historic night of MMA action. The Internet world is going crazy, and there are tons of great related posts all about.

This link dump will start right here at home from our very own B/R posts.

1. UFC 100: Octagon girls past and present

Why not start with the beuties of the UFC? In this B/R post, Mike McD shows us what to love outside of the cage!

2. Michael Bisping vs. Dan Henderson

I really like this preview for obvious reasons.

3. UFC 100: Fight Card Preview

This is a very popular B/R preview of the fight card.

Bleacher Report is not the only Web site that is offering great preview and associated content. Here are some of my off-site favorites.

1. Dan Henderson: Proving a Point

This article talks about Dan Henderson and the title possibilities that this fight holds.

2. Sending a Message: Jon Jones

Many feel that Jon Jones is the future of the UFC. His overall game is amazing, considering the guy is only 21 years old.

3. Michael Bisping: UK Stud or US Dud?

This one is interesting because it talks about the other side of Michael Bisping, the negative side that he would rather you not hear about.

4. Brock Lesnar talks UFC 100, Fake Belts, and Robot Jits

We couldn't have a link dump for this event without some Brock Lesnar talk!

5. Ken Hahn talks Mir

Hahn talks about Mir and his fight against Lesnar.

That is it for the UFC 100 link dump. If I stumble on some others I will surely post them for everyone.

UFC 100: Dan Henderson Vs. Michael Bisping

UFC 100 is going to be a historical night for the entire sport of MMA. In many ways it will be a MMA memorial with an incredible fight card mixed in. The fight card is one that is comprised of two title fights and a The Ultimate Fighter fight.

Dan Henderson (#5 IWMMAR) vs. Michael Bisping

Hendo and The Count are arguably two of the best their countries have to offer. Bisping is without a doubt the best British fighter ever, and Henderson is one of the best and most decorated fighters of our era.

This fight is the easiest of the other three to break down. Although both are solid fighters, the distance between the two is further than in the other match-ups.

Michael Bisping has only lost one fight in the UFC. Rashad Evans was the better fighter on this night, but Bisping has been the one that hasn't lost since.

In this fight Michael Bisping does not have a part of his game that is naturally better than his opponent.

If he is to win this fight, he is going to have to make it as sloppy as possible. He needs to get close and utilize a Couture type of dirty boxing. Bisping needs to keep Henderson's back on the fence so that he controls the leverage and can control the fight.

If he is able to control the fight in this manner and land solid combinations he could squeeze out the split decision.

Dan Henderson has finally strung a few wins together in the UFC. His eyes are starting to see the top of the mountain. In his way is a very solid fighter in Michael Bisping.

In this fight Hendo is the superior fighter. Not only is his wrestling much better, but his stand up is as well.

In this fight Henderson will look to keep the fight standing. The two will meet in the center of the cage and trade punches until Dan starts landing more and more.

At this point Bisping will attempt to shoot. Bisping will have tons of trouble taking Henderson down, and will open up with every failed shot. This plays into Henderson's strengths leading to a Hendo victory.

In this one I don't see Bisping winning. He does not posses the tools required to control the cage against a fighter of Hendo's quality. Watch for Henderson to land a solid shot which leads to a referee stoppage at some point in this fight.

Mixed Martial Arts Weekly Link Dump

It has been a while since I have been able to post anything thanks to a busy military schedule. Since the last post, the MMA world has been full of news. To share as much news as possible I am going to start doing a weekly MMA Link Alert.

I will peruse the net and find the best articles, posts, and stories that you guys can't miss. If you own a site, write for a site, or find a link that needs to be added for the week let me know and I will add it.

1. Brock Lesnar vs. Bobby Lashley

This one is pretty interesting. It takes the forum spin and punches the "Lashley for president" bid in the face.

2. Independent World MMA Rankings

I know what you are thinking: Not another biased and random rankings system. Give this one a try. The voting panel is comprised of a who's who of MMA media, including Jordan Breen, Josh Stein, and many others.

3. Bisping is upset...He is not feeling the love

It could be the next version of pre-fight hype, but Mr. Bisping is not happy. He is feeling disrespected and does not like how he is being treated. Who would have thought the best fighter ever from the UK would have low self-esteem and get upset over a little trash talk?

4. Happy Birthday Wand!

Birthday cake is in order when one of the most exciting fighters in history gets a year older.

5. UFC Ring Girl Search!

The UFC is searching for their next professional hot chick.

BR Links!

1. For Georges St. Pierre, Thiago "Pitbull" Alves will be a different animal

Take Ten put this interesting post together. It is a great look at the two fighters and their up coming bout.

2. UFC 100: Who the Hell is Marketing it?

That is a great question. Do you guys remember all of the hype when Randy fought Brock? I don't understand why the UFC doesn't have a monster marketing plan for this one!

3. UFC to Ban Fighters that Sign with EA

Crazy! How can one organization have this much control and power over their employees? I am in the military, but own my own likeness! I hope this doesn't happen. EA's Madden franchise is the best sporting game in history. Why not allow them to market your fighters?

Three Reasons Michael Vick Should Play in the NFL

Michael Vick gave the National Football League it's biggest black eye to date when he pleaded guilty to dog fighting charges. News flash, that is over and done with. Contrary to public opinion, he went to court, pleaded guilty, and did his time.

That chapter is now closed. As Vick finishes the remaining time on his sentence, teams are starting to consider him as a future for their team. There are three key reasons why teams should seriously think about adding Vick to their rosters.

1. In money talk, it just makes cents!

I wonder what the going rate is for a washed up QB. One that hasn't thrown a TD pass in more than a year. One that hasn't been on a field in just as long. How does league minimum sound? Once upon a time Vick was not only the face of the Atlanta Falcons organization, but the highest paid player in the league.

A team should sign Vick, but this is how they do it. They sign him for the league minimum with an incentive-based contract. If he can no longer play, then he will only get the lowest amount of pay available. If he does produce, you now have a star that is going to put fans in the seats, for a minimal price.

Even if you are set at the starting QB position, take a chance. Athletes like Vick don't come around often. Pay him to be your second- or third-string QB. Remember, there is no such thing as bad press.

2. The Wildcat

The comedian in me wanted to rename it the Wild dog, but I wasn't sure how well that would be received. Last season the Dolphins were very successful with this formation; it helped them win a very tough AFC East.

Having someone line up behind center that can run the 40 in the low fours is rare. Finding someone with Vick's arm strength is even rarer. If he is placed on a team that is not afraid to try new things, it just might work out.

Could you imagine the nightmare of trying to defensively scheme for Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, when Vick walks out on the field? Even if it is good for just a first down a game, it could be worth it. Just remember. Football often times is a game of inches.

3. He paid his due.

Vick has moved on, how about you? Looking at the big picture, what he did wasn't so bad. He didn't rape anyone, pistol whip a kid at McDonald's (see: Marcus Vick), or go on a murder spree. I am not trying to down play his horrible activity, but it could have been worse.

We live in a world where teachers sleep with their students, drug dealers run communities, and politicians lie more than a high school kid's job resume.

Vick was sentenced and did his time. In America he deserves another chance. In this what-have-you-done-for-me-lately world, once he scores that first TD, he will regain fans.

He will play somewhere. It may take time, but we will see him on the field again. Vick jerseys may not ever be as popular as they once were, but he at least deserves one more shot to be the athlete he was once upon a time.

16-Year-Old Phenom Skipping High School, Eyes MLB Draft

Every now and again you hear a story that is so remarkable, it just blows you away. This is one of those stories. It is every father's dream, but every mother's nightmare. Having a son that is so gifted, that he has considered dropping out of high school to pursue his passion.

A month ago, a high school junior was skipping his senior year to play pro basketball in Europe. This time around the sport is baseball, and the kid is merely sixteen years old.

Bryce Harper is only sixteen but has already been labeled the "next big thing" for baseball. The athlete plays catcher and is a towering 6'3". Did I mention that he is only sixteen?

For an athlete to even consider this move, he would have to be putting up astronomical numbers, and he is. Last season, for Las Vegas High School, he hit 14 homers, had 55 RBI, had more than 30 steals, and batted an impressive .626. The kid can flat out play!

If the move to skip the rest of his high school doesn't surprise you, his comparisons might. Bryce is already being compared to athletes such as LeBron James, who was the last young athlete to take the world by storm.

Skipping these two years of school may hurt him in the long run, but it may also help him. This is time he will dedicate to his trade. When draft day comes he will be rewarded, handsomely.

Skipping college has always been a trend for basketball players, but high school is another thing all together. Only time will tell if this is a fad, or the next sports wonder.

Why Shaq Would Help LeBron Get His First Title .

Batman had Robin, MJ had Pippen, and Tim had Tony. Almost every true champion had a side kick. In today's sports world, it is almost impossible to win a title by yourself (unless your Tiger).

If you look at the past 5 NBA Champions, each team had a supporting cast. The Celtics, Spurs, Heat, and Pistons all played a team game. This is part, is why they were able to beat the oposing team and win a title.

Lebron James is the next super star of the NBA. Sure, he is already one of the top two in the league, but i am talking about super star. When he retires he may have been as important to the game of basketball as MJ. Not as good a player, but as important.

If Lebron ever hopes to be on the same level as MJ, he needs to start winning NBA titles. That is the overall grading criteria and what careers are based around.

Even if Lebron turns out to be better than MJ, he will need a supporting cast. It all starts with an intelligent coach that can build the supporting cast and call the right play at the right time.

There is one player around the league that could make the Cavs the true team to beat next season, and that player is none other than Mr. Shaqtus Shaquille Oneal.
Begin Slideshow

UFC 99: Cain Velasquez Proved he Is not Ready for Title

UFC 99 was an average card.

If it hadn't been for an exciting super-fight, the casual fan would have been upset.

On the other hand, the card was great for hardcore fans. The fighters were matched up very well, and it provided solid fights.

Prior to the event everyone, was talking about how great several of the fighters were, and this was their chance to prove their worth—including heavyweight challenger, Cain Velasquez.

Cain is an All-American college wrestler, and has been on a war path since joining the UFC's Heavyweight Division. This was first chance to show the world that he is ready for tougher competition and is due for his title shot.

Fortunately for him, he won this fight. He did defeat Cheick Kongo, but during the 15-minute bore fest, he showed the world that he is human. Have you ever heard the saying, "Be careful what you wish for?"

Cain wants tougher guys, but Kongo was able to show huge holes in his game, and reminded of another.

Glancing at this division, you see Brock Lesnar, Frank Mir, Randy Couture and Big Nog at the top of the mountain. Every one of these fighters have a solid ground game, unlike Kongo. Mir's is world class, Randy is an Olympic caliber wrestler, and the other two are no slouches on the mat.

This means that almost everyone in front of Cain is either a better, comparable wrestler, or have a legit ground-submission game. This means trouble for Cain. He was able to hold Kongo on the ground, but lacked the conditioning and strength required to hold him down and finish the fight.

The reason this is bad, is because Cain proved that if he gets punched he will drop. Although he recovered quickly and was able to get a fight saving take down each time, he may not be able to do this to the guys ahead of him—meaning his wrestling may be great, but it will not win him the title.

Velasquez's punching looked great on the UFC 99 Countdown show, but was not at the level of Kongo's. This is a huge weakness and needs to be addressed. Unfortunately he may not have a tune up fight or two, to work on it.

Except for Lesnar we know that the others have a solid stand-up game; Nothing like Kongo, but good enough to stop fights. This part of his game is the weakest, and needs to the most work.

Lucky for Cain, the UFC has these legends in front of him that deserve to be fighting for the title. Look for the Couture-Nog winner to get the title fight, which opens fights with the loser of Mir-Lesnar, or even a fight against Shane Carwin.

Cain deserved the win at UFC 99. It is now time to check the video tape, work on head movement, and establish the ground game. If he does not improve, he will simply be the next gate keeper in this division.

The Lakers Are Not Winning, the Magic Are Simply Losing

The NBA Final is a competition of the two best basketball teams in the world. The winner will be king of the court for the next 12 months. They will visit the president, have parades, and be enshrined in history as this year's champ.

Every team in the National Basketball Association would love to be playing instead of the Lakers and Magic. Players such as LeBron James and Grant Hill are missing a championship ring, and would give anything just for the slim chance to win one.

The Orlando Magic are the best of the East, but they have been better at losing games than winning them in these Finals. The Lakers are a great team, but the Magic are making Kobe Bryant's quest for a Shaq-less title easier and easier every time they play.

Game Four of this series tells the entire story of why the Magic will not be champs this year.

In this game the Magic missed an amazing 15 free throws. These guys are professional athletes that make millions. There is no excuse for missing this many free throws. You are at home—take advantage of the calls and make the free ones count.

The other stat that jumps off of the page is turnovers. The Magic had 19 in the game. In regulation, if just one had been an assist, the Magic would have won.

The Orlando Magic are all but eliminated from this championship. All offseason they are going to look back at their play and kick themselves. They missed shots that should have been made, played terrible defense, and could not capitalize on the opportunities at hand. They are going to remember this series not as what they did, but what they could have done.

Top 10 Fantasy Football Team Names!

Fantasy football season is coming up very soon, and it is never too early to begin thinking about your championship-winning squad.

Sure, you are wondering if LT is healthy, Tom Brady will play like himself, or the Atlanta O is for real, but first and foremost you need a solid team name!

I am here to help you out. Here are my 10 favorite team names at this time. In the future, expect more team names and thoughts.

10. The One Uppers

Every year someone in your league is one of these. Mr. One Upper, I have won every FF league ever, may have invented football, still can run a 4.3 40, and is the best thing since sliced bread!

9. The Sofa Kings

Let's be honest: We are all playing fantasy football because we can't play the real thing, and more than likely your team pretty much sucks. Hey, even Lions fans need something to cheer for. Let's hear it for The Sofa Kings!

8. Short Bus Bears

I just like this one. Reminds me of the time when the Bears made that horrible trade for that crybaby of a QB. Oh wait...

7. The Dirty Birds

Is it weird that I think this was the beginning of the A Town Stomp?

6. Deuce Donkeys

This one is for those Deuce fans that are still hanging around the league. Those are usually the Reggie Bush haters...

5. Party Pimps

Halfway through the countdown has to go to the guys that are simply in your league for the draft party. They are the ones that only know their first two picks, but somehow hang around .500 during the season, and crush your championship dreams with two weeks to go.

4. Vick's Dog Pound

Yeah, I know this one hits close to home for some people. If you can't have fun at others' misfortune then you need another game. FF is for those of thick skin!

3. The Super Bowl Stunnas

That is the goal! This team name is for the guy in your league that has no clue, and makes it to the ship.

2. Brady's Bombshell

Not everyone that plays FF is a guy, so this one can be used for either sex. The lady types can use this one for obvious reasons. The guy types that use this one are the ones that got lucky, picked Tom with their first pick, and smashed the rest of the league when the Pat's made their one-loss run.

By the way, the '72 Dolphins are still the only team to ever go undefeated and win the Super Bowl. Just saying...

1. Bat Fastards!

I love it! Bat Fastards! Talk about a play on words. This one is perfect for everyone. You can make fun of your big friends, or use it because you are one of those friends!

In the future I will be bringing you more interesting fantasy names and thoughts!

Cain Velasquez-Cheick Kongo: Their Bid for UFC Gold

UFC 99 will feature tons of great talent.

The likes of Wanderlei Silva, Rich Franklin, Cain Velasquez, and Cheick Kongo will all be showcased as the UFC heads across the pond.

Most fans are incredibly excited for the battle of Wand vs. Ace, but the fight that has title implications is the one between Kongo vs. Velasquez.

This contest of big men is going to be a battle.

Cheick Kongo has been around awhile. He has an impressive record of 24-4-1. He is a veteran of the Octagon and is riding the wave of a three fight win streak. All three of those wins were due to the combination of amazing power and precision in both of his hands and feet.

As he continues to win, the title fight rumors get louder and louder from the blogs and forums.

In this fight he will be the bigger of the two athletes. He will have at least three inches of height on his opponent, which should relate to a longer reach. This could be a key factor in this fight.

If Kongo is going to win, it will either be because he dropped his opponent with a perfectly timed strike, or a war of attrition that lasts to the bell.

If he is able to push Cain for the first round and get him on his heels, it will make for a much easier fight. This will allow Kongo to use his height. This opens the door to use his reach and superior striking game, as well as rattle Cain's mental state.

The mental aspect might surprise you, but in this sport wrestlers always have trouble with better wrestlers.

This fight has a similar feel. Whoever is the weaker striker is in deep trouble.

Cain Velasquez is not a long time veteran of the UFC.

In fact he will be the newbie in this war of monsters. He has only had five pro MMA fights. Just like his opponent, Cain is riding the wave of an impressive win streak, but the level of competition has been in question.

Cheick Kongo is without a doubt the best fighter that Cain has faced.

Cain's strength to this point has been his stand up game. Every one of his five wins have been by TKO.

That is going to generate some fireworks.

If he is going to win this fight, he will have to get inside and use solid elbow work on Cheick. He is going to be slightly smaller and possibly stronger. If he has a ground game, this could be the fight to show it to the world.

This fight is going to be full of sparks.

These two warriors are going to stand in the middle of the cage and swing at one another until someone falls. That is what everyone else is saying, but I am going to tell you it is going to go another route.

Once the superior stand up fighter starts to take over, don't be surprised if you see a clinch to a take down, or some sort of push to take this to the ground.

Kongo has twice as many submission wins in his career as Cain. This fight will hit the ground at some point, and that is where the ground and pound of Kongo will help him get the victory. his may even come after some sort of scramble after a solid shot.

After the dust settles in Germany, one of these two athletes may be considered the top contender in this division.

If they aren't guaranteed a title shot, then they will get the winner of the Randy Couture and Big Nog fight, which will determine who will get the next shot at the belt.

Either way both fighters will leave everything on the table and be ready for war at UFC 99.

This is one of those fights you do not want to miss!

The Real Love of the Game

The sports world we live in is dominated by superstars. Everywhere we turn arrogant rich guys take over every headline.

In a weird way, it seems they no longer love the game they play. It is a job. They don't work a 9 to 5, they work around the clock to become the best athlete they can be. Not to enjoy the game.

The Curtis and Kyle show was recently at a military event taking in the sights and sounds of the ones who protect our freedom. This time around they were joining the Navy as they held their annual Naval Helicopter Association Golf Tournament in Norfolk, Va.

Everywhere you walked you could see these guys smile and having a blast. They were truly enjoying the game of golf, I thought to myself, "why is it not like this on ESPN?". Although you do see an occasional pie in the face, you don't see the things happening on this course.

The golf game took a sloth-like five hours for the full round, but it seemed much quicker than that. To be honest it was a relaxing day away from work for most who spent much of the day laughing at someone's shot.

It may sound like bad golf, but it wasn't. The competition was there and the winning team shot an incredible 15-under par. This wasn't Pebble Beach, but that is still an incredible score!

Sports is a staple in the lives of millions all around the world. These millions will never hit a game-winning shot at Madison Square Garden, they will never hit a hole-in-one at TPC and they will never hit a home run at Fenway. What they will do is enjoy life through the thing they love best, the love of the game!

More information and tons of pictures of the event can be found at http://curtisandkyle.com/NHA.html.

UFC 98: Matt Hughes vs. Matt Serra Preview

UFC 98 is finally among us, and it is time for a long awaited match up. The drama for this fight started way back in 2007. The two Matts, Serra and Hughes, were picked to be opposite one another as the coaches of The Ultimate Fighter, and to fight at the completion of the show. Two long years later, and tons of trash talk, it is finally time for these very different characters to get it on in the cage!

Matt Hughes is one of the best fighters in the history of the 170 pound weight division. He owns wins over George St. Pierre, B.J. Penn, Sean Sherk, and many more. He has won at least 40 victories in his career as a pro fighter, and is as much of a lock for the UFC Hall of Fame as you can get. A loss here almost cements the former poster boy into retirement.

Matt Serra is far from being known as a dominant fighter. In all honesty, if it hadn't been for one nasty shot and a larger than life upset, we may not be talking about him today. Matt Serra's up and down career seems to be clinging to this fight. A loss here will make Serra's career seem more like a one hit wonder than a true work of art.

This is one of those bad blood match ups that could make UFC 98 an incredible card. The two obviously can't stand one another and are ready to punch each other in the face over and over again!

If Matt Serra is going to win, he needs to land one of his haymakers. He will be the smaller fighter. To be successful he will need to get inside Hughes, work a dirty boxing type of style while standing, and throw each punch like it is his last. His ground game is better than Hughes, but he is not taking Hughes down. One would think he could almost allow Hughes to take him down and use his strong guard game to control the fight, and work to a submission.

Although both fighters are coming off of injuries, Serra's was far worse. The longer this fight goes, the worse off it is for Serra. This could be bad for the conditioning of Serra. He needs to strike fast, strike early, and not let Hughes get comfortable.

If Matt Hughes is going to win, he needs to be the bully in the cage that he used to be. He needs to step in knowing he is about to give Serra a good old country butt whooping! He will need to continuously move his head and avoid Serra's haymakers. Hughes needs to use a jab to set up a take down.

Once on the ground he needs to stay out of the locked guard position. After Serra locks his legs, Hughes will no longer be in the dominant position. If he avoids this, and uses solid ground and pound he should win this fight. I also feel that as the fight goes, Hughes will get stronger. Hughes' psyche may be a bit off, and if he gets comfortable and confident in himself it will spell trouble for Serra.

In terms of a prediction I have to give this one to Hughes. I don't see Serra as a true 170 pound fighter. I think his conditioning will not be even with Hughes' and could be the reason he loses this fight. I see this one going to decision with Hughes winning a very controversial split.

This fight is going to be a good one. The two really don't like one another. In many interviews Matt Hughes has said that he don't want to finish Serra early, that he would rather beat on him for the entire three round fight! Make sure you tune in, this is going to be a war!

Miami Dolphins Sign Alcohol Troubled J.D. Quinn

In 2003, ESPN showcased a new sports series based on reality. It was one that portrayed a fictional pro football team throughout a season. It was great, full of bad actors, side stories, and all of the negativity that we know happens behind closed doors. You know what I am talking about, the women, drugs, and crazy antics.

Although the show was fake, it was not that far off. In a move that seemed like it is out of this series that only lasted one season, the Miami Dolphins signed J.D. Quinn. You may not have heard of Mr. Quinn. After all, he was undrafted and is an offensive guard.

However, there is a chance you may have heard from this former Sooner. It isn't for pancakes and blocks, it is for alcohol related incidents. This guy has had three D.U.I.s in four years. Two of which have been in the past year. At one time, he wasn't even sure if he would be able to play.

I mentioned earlier that he was a Sooner. He WAS a Sooner before he was booted from the team, and was forced to transfer.

If Quinn would have been signed by the Raiders, I would be worried, but in this case he should be okay. He will be on a short leash, and the fear of reprisal from the Big Tuna should be enough of a deterrent to keep him off of the Crown and Coke.

Gerald Henderson Furthers the Trend: Goodbye Duke, Hello NBA

Once upon a time, in a story deep in the state of North Carolina, was a team that did not lose players to the NBA. Nowadays, the Duke Blue Devils are no longer immune to the loss of players to The League.

Gerald Henderson is the next Dukie on this list. "G" has officially signed with agent Arn Tellem and can no longer return to the historic Cameron Indoor Stadium in a Duke uniform.

Arn is not your average sports agent. He is one that will be great for G. In 2006, The Sports Journal named him the Most Influential Agent in Sports. He has represented the likes of Ben Wallace, Joe Johnson, Tracy McGrady, and Jason Giambi.

G is almost guaranteed to be a lottery pick in the upcoming NBA Draft. He has been called the next coming of Grant Hill. The two have a similar style. G is a very athletic player that blossomed in his last year at Duke. At times, he alone carried the Devils to victories. Henderson is a winner on and off the court, and personifies Duke basketball.

Next season Duke will miss this athletic high riser. In one day, it makes the John Wall recruiting sweepstakes suddenly a priority inside of Duke. Wall may not be able to fill G's shoes, but he would be the best possible replacement.

I will continue to follow G as he works out for teams and is the next top Duke player to carry on the tradition into the league.

Should Duke Change How They Recruit?

The John Wall discussion is about the biggest thing surrounding college basketball of late. He is supposed to be the next coming of Carmelo Anthony. Anthony was a one and done recruit that led his Syracuse team to the NCAA title.

All of the John Wall to Duke talk has sparked an incredible interest. One question that keeps coming up is why Wall and why Duke?

John Wall has about a 99% chance to be a one and done type of player, if not more. He is not the type of guy that the Blue Devils roll out the red carpet for, and does not necessarily fit into the dark blue mold.

This recruit could be the missing piece that would lead Duke past the Tarheels and possibly to a national title. Would the addition of a one and done player not be worth it if he led the team to national supremacy?

That is the thing... See, the Devils' Staff stays away from this type of thing. They take pride in developing superstars throughout their system. The Duke system is a team system. One that thrives on hustle, conditioning, teamwork, and defense. This system has developed the likes of Chris Duhon, J.J. Redick, and next season Jon Scheyer.

If they do decide to change their thinking they could jeopardize their system, but they could also jump start their way back to the top! Why would they turn this down? How many of the top recruits every year could really say no to Coach K in their living room? Especially if he was saying he would and can prepare them for a one year then pro transition? I would guess, not many...

All of that sounds great. It truly does, but it is not the Duke way. People say that they have fallen off, that Coach K has lost that proverbial step, and that they are on their way down. Really Mr. Postman? Take this into thought... In the past ten years the Devils have not lost more than seven games and have not won less than twenty six games. I venture to say there are over 50 other teams that would love to say that.

D1 Basketball is a roller coaster. Do not believe me? Ask Kentucky, UCLA, or Georgetown. Teams are on top on minute and on the bottom the next. The Duke system works, and they have been on top for a very long time. Next season they will continue to be on top. Throughout the year they will be ranked in the top ten and is a lock for the NCAA tourney. The Duke system is not broke. It is like Novocain...just give it time, it always works.

Ron Artest Reminds Us of the Old Ron Artest

November 19, 2004 is one of the worst dates in NBA history.

It is the day that infamous star Ron Artest took his bad-boy ways into the crowd.

Whether you agree or disagree, he still went into the stands, and after a paying customer of his product.

He is a millionaire who could not keep his cool under pressure. To this day, it is arguably the worst day in NBA history.

Since that time, NBA Commissioner David Stern has been trying to change the NBA's image of a league of thugs. Stern has done a very good job of late, and popularity is soaring. Team USA won gold with his players, and things are great.

When the playoffs started, the NBA was unsure what they would get out of their current champion the Boston Celtics. A key injury to Kevin Garnet created the the best first-round playoff series in history. That series is in the history books, and the NBA is pumped for their second-round games.

Fast forward to last night. The Lakers and Rockets fought in what was a physical basketball game. Today's most popular NBA story is one regarding Ron Artest. In his post-game comments, he told a story about his old school playground.

The story had something to do with a friend of his getting stabbed through the heart with a kitchen table leg. Really? How do you explain that one to your kids?

All in all, last night's antics, whether they were the fault of Artest or not, are bad for the NBA. Bad press is better than no press—but they are still bad.

They remind fans of that terrible day where the players rushed into the crowd to fight. The day that the court could have been surrounded by a cage, and been more like a cage fight than a NBA game.

David Stern is not going to take light of this situation. Money will be taken and suspensions should happen. If they don't, the fans will start to turn on the league.

Not for what it hasn't done, but for what is going on now.

Duke No. 5 in New Power Ranking

All over the Internet people are saying how Coach K is getting old, that he can't recruit, and that the Blue Devils are done.

This offseason there is an unusual amount of bitterness, would it have been too much to ask for an upset Mr. Izzo?

Anyway, next year is going to be a completely different year. The Heels are going to be nothing less than a new look team, and the Devils may look a lot alike!

In the most recent CNN Power Poll they have the Devils ranked at No. 5.

For some teams this would create a preseason buzz, not in Durham.

In the '09-'10 season the Duke Blue Devils will be something that they haven't truly been in awhile—senior!

They are going to have a roster full of upperclassmen.

If the next coming of Grant Hill in G. Henderson stays, they will be returning every one of their starters from last season.

Kyle Singler will be an ACC First-Team selection, and will be on the list of possible players of the year as soon as it comes out. His return could be even more important to the team than Hendersons'. Singler can do it all, he can shoot, pass, and play D.

While Singler and Henderson are the players that are on the front page of this book, Jon Scheyer could be the glue that holds this team together. If he continues to improve over the offseason he could be lights out next season. If his shot is falling, he makes this team ridiculous and one of the best in the nation.

The weakness of this team is not something new.

They are without an Elton Brand or Shane Battier type of big man. There is no land lord in Duke right now, but what they do have is a legit seven footer that will take up space down low.

As last season progressed, "ZOOOOO" (Brian Zoubek) started to find his shot and play better. If he works, lifts weights and develops into an average big man, this team will be the best in the nation.

Next season is going to be a good one at Duke.

The experience will be back, but most important so will Coach K. He says the Olympics had no affect on his team, but lets be honest...this offseason K is not thinking about gold, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.

He is thinking about Duke Blue, March Madness, and winning number four.

Duke Versus UNC, the NBA Playoff Edition

The NCAA Tourney is over. The UNC Tar Heels have been crowned champs. People are already talking about next season and if the Heels will rebound after losing several players to the NBA. In Durham, the fans are still cheering for more than just the UNC players to leave. They are also rooting for their former players in the NBA.

At the start of this season, Duke led every Division 1 school with the most players on an NBA roster. If that isn't surprising to you, how about the number seven, the number of former Duke players that were on an NBA playoff team this year.

The overall favorites to win the title this season are the Lakers and Cavaliers. Although they do not have a former Duke player, they will see their fair share during these playoffs. In Game One of the Lakers and Rockets series, Shane Battier had his hand in the face of Kobe Bryant all night long, even after taking a nasty shot to the head.

Battier is as important to the Rockets as any other player that will take the court, including Yao Ming.

In Game One of the Magic-Celtics series, former Duke great J.J. Redick actually outscored Boston sharpshooter Ray Allen, arguably the best shooter since Reggie Miller. Redick's game is slowly starting to translate into the faster, more athletic pro game.

The hottest team in the NBA postseason to this point has been the Denver Nuggets. A key part of their team is former Duke transfer Dahntay Jones. At this point, his team could have one of the best shots to go deep in the playoffs. The addition of their postseason-ready point guard Chauncey Billups has this team ready to make a huge upset!

The other former players from Duke that are playing in the playoffs are Carlos Booozer, Shavlik Randolph, Luol Deng, DeMarcus Nelson, and Elton Brand. The haters among the light blue crowd are going to continue to hate and ride out on this championship for awhile.

However, they have three players that made it to the NBA postseason. That means that Duke, the same Duke that has been known not to develop pro talent, has twice the amount of players still playing in the league.

Keep talking about how bad the Duke players do in the pros, their team first attitude and Coach K style will lead them to the front. They may not score 30 points per game, but they know how to win! That is what they do. Don't be surprised if you see a familiar Dukie holding NBA gold very soon.

Brett Favre and the Three Teams that Need His Help

The Brett Favre saga is back in full force.

The "will he, won't he" debate is back in full form, as the Favre watch returns to your local sports channel.

Although his is an aged version of arguably the best QB in history, he could still be the finishing touch needed for some teams to make a strong playoff run. We all know that the Vikings are on top of the list, so I am not even going to add them this time around. These are the other three teams that need Brett Favre.

1. The Niners

Yes, I agree. The Niners are more than one player away from making a true run deep into the playoffs, but keep an open mind. Are they really that far away? Outside of the NFC East, the league could see major shake ups. The Arizona Cardinals made a nice run to the Super Bowl and almost pulled off an incredible upset, but they are an injury to their version of Brett Favre from being down the drain.

Could Matty really lead this team? I don't think so. The Rams aren't as bad as the Lions, but they are not much better. That leaves the Niners battling with the Seahawks for the division. Last year the Seahawks struggled to find a receiver that could catch. If they can't remedy their problems, the Niners could very well sneak up and win this division with an average overall record. The Niners defense will be improved and their draft moves are going to help a long the way. Tell me the thought of Favre throwing to a young Michael Crabtree doesn't make you wonder? If Brett would take his tractor to California he could help this young team be the surprise of the season.

2. Denver Broncos

Could the next coming of John Elway be Favre? Imagine the crowd in Mile High as Favre throws deep down field, the ball hangs in the light air, and then drops into the arms of a wide open Brandon Marshall that walks into the end zone. Combine this with the constant rushing game of the Broncs, and you have the making for one of the most exciting offenses in the NFL. The recent departure of the whiny guy by the name of Jay has left a hole to fill. Favre would fit right in throwing TDs to Marshall and Jabar Gaffney all day long. This would take pressure off of the RB crew and help this team finally make they run they want.

3. San Diego Chargers

The Bolts are the big surprise of my three. The reason they are even on my list is my lack of confidence in Philip Rivers. I don't see him as being on the same level as many of the other top notch QBs in the league. They are simply better with Favre under center than Rivers at this point.

Not too long ago, the Chargers had a huge buzz flowing all around San Diego, and they were favored to make a deep playoff run. A coaching change, LT injuries, and the disappearance of Merriman have the Chargers in shambles, and are no longer the super power of the NFC. They need a lighting bolt in the locker room. They need some sort of change and the addition of Favre could be just what the doctor ordered. Especially if Rivers starts off the season throwing pick after pick. Favre could finally get their monies worth of Chris Chambers and lead this team deep into the playoffs.

Sure, I know none of these are likely at all. However, if Favre did make his way on any of these teams, they would instantly be better. He may only be a shell of himself at this point, but that is still better than half of the starting QBs in the league. Hey Dallas fans, who would you rather have starting your first playoff game next year, Romo or Favre...that's what I thought, too.

Introducing the Miami Dolphins' "WildPat"

Last year, the Miami Dolphins executed an amazing Cinderella story. Their run was eventually stopped by the strong defense of the Baltimore Ravens, but it was still a very impressive run.

Part of the reason they were able to win a very competitive division was the Tom Brady injury—and of course the addition of the Wildcat offense.

The Wildcat O was an oldie but goodie that was used time and time again. The staff used Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams as a running back from the quarterback position on the field. It was the most interesting change on that side of the ball inside and outside ofthe Dolphin camp.

This season, the Dolphins are sure to unveil different wrinkles in this offense. One key addition to the team is rookie QB Pat White. White is a mobile QB that seems to have been drafted simply for this style of offense.

In the future you will hear the term "WildPat." White has a true shot to be the most influential rookie QB of this draft in the short term sense. The Fins will use him in the wildcat, that you can plan on! He has the speed of Ronnie Brown or Ricky Williams, but can throw the ball.

So far in camp he has had minor troubles here and there, especially due to his lack of height. He has thrown a couple of interceptions and has been getting some of his passes batted down at the line.

This season is going to be a tough one for the Dolphins. They have the toughest division in the AFC, and arguably the hardest schedule in all of football. If they are going to repeat last years amazing run, they are going to have to continue to improve on both sides of the ball.

Bill Parcells knows how to win, this year he will have to work extra hard to prove it. One thing he has that no one else in the league has, is the WildPat offense!

Rashad Evans vs. Lyoto Machida: The Machida Edition

May 23rd is going to be a big day of MMA action. Not only will the best 170 pound fighter in the history of the sport be in action, in what could be his last fight, but we also have a super fight between Rashad Evans and Lyoto Machida.

In a recent post that can be found at http://bleacherreport.com/articles/167171-rashad-evans-vs-lyoto-machida-the-evans-edition, I put together a winning game plan that the champ would have to use to get a win and retain the title.

This time around it is The Dragon's turn. During his UFC career, Machida has become an Internet sensation. Not in the sense that Kimbo did, but in the way of generating an abnormal amount of hype. In a way that no other fighter in the UFC had ever done, the back-peddling counter puncher became a fan favorite almost over night. He is a one of a kind Karate ace that will be ready to show the champ that he is ready for UFC gold.

If Lyoto is going to be victorious at UFC 98, he will have to stay in control of this fight. He will need to stay true to the game plan that got him to this point. That is to use his quickness creating angles and openings to attack Rashad. Force Rashad to get aggravated. Make him drop his hands and make bad shot attempts. We all know that Evans likes to dance, what will he do once he gets mad because he can't hit his target? If Machida keeps this fight standing and has great head movement, he will win this fight.

Greg Jackson is one of the best in the world at helping his fighters prepare for a fight. You can bet that he will do it again in this one, but if Rashad can't follow a strict game plan then he will lose. Although Machida is either loved or hated, and has a rep as being yet another boring and unmarketbale fighter, he very well be known as champ later this month.

Rashad Evans vs Lyoto Machida: The Evans Edition

At the end of the month, UFC 205 champ Rashad Evans, will put his title on the line against the loved Lyoto Machida. This is a fight that Machida fans want. Many were upset that he wasn't in front of Rampage Jackson for a title shot, but it all came out in the wash.

This title fight will simply be the next super fight in the best division in all of MMA. In this series of pre-fight posts, I will provide the game plan that could lead each fighter to victory!

Rashad Evans is undefeated. His victory against Forrest Griffin earned him the gold. This time around he will be the one with his belt on the line.

The matchup between him and Machida has the potential to be a great fight, but at the same time it could also be a bore-fest. Although Rashad has been able to finish his last two bouts he has had problems finishing before.

If you look on paper, the current champ would be the favorite. If you surfed the Internet forums it would appear that Machida would be the favorite. If the champ is going to retain his title, he will have to employ his strengths on Machida.

He is without a doubt the most athletic of the two fighters. To win he will have to be the quicker, stronger, and use his skill to shut down Machida's angles.

Machida is a quick counter puncher that will try to use Rashad's aggressiveness against him. Machida has been impressive at times, he is far from unbeatable. In this fight Rashad needs to prove that he is a superior wrestler in this sport.

He needs to stay aggressive, keep his hands up, and get this fight to the ground. Employ a Sean Sherk type of game plan. Press, press, press until Machida makes a mistake. Get the fight to the ground and smother him. Use solid ground and pound, and make the ref stop the fight.

Tito Ortiz proved that Machida's ground game is not great. Take advantage of it, and put him on his back.

This fight should be a good one. One that will be half fight and half chess match. The UFC had to put this one on and the fans will love it. Rashad will more than likely be favored but the Machida fans will be in full force.

In less than a month Rashad will try to prove that he is the best 206 pound fighter in the world. If he uses this game plan he will be victorious.

MLB Hall Debate: Let Them All In!

We live in a sad, sad world. The economy is down, pirates seem to be the new vikings, and the all time leaders in home runs and hits are not guarantees for the MLB Hall of Fame. How insane is that?

During his prime who would believe that old Charlie Hustle would not be in? Speaking of possible snubs, the all time home run leader is also not a lock.

Like Rose, Bonds has a dark side. His has never been confirmed, but in the courts of public opinion, Bonds is all but sentenced due to his proposed steroid use.

Barry Bonds

Like it or not, steroids are a part of baseball history. As time goes on we hear more and more names of the superstars that used these performance enhancing drugs. Barry Bonds is likely one of these stars.

I say likely because at this time it is not certain if he really did. Even if Bonds did take steroids, who cares? We now know that pitchers took them, sounds like a fair playing field to me.

Truth is, taking roids does not make you hit a ball, it does not make you see a curve ball, and does not make you push the ball to the opposite field. It does increase your vitality and decrease the amount of games you miss.

The players should understand that there are risks with taking the often experimental drugs, and that should be on them. After all steroids saved baseball. They jump started the game when crowds and audiences were fading.

Morally, steroids may not be right, but they are a part of the game. Barry Bonds should not be held out of the hall, he should be ushered in for the record he owns.

Pete Rose

Ol' Mr. Hustle has more hits than anyone to ever swing a bat. His book was a flop, but his head first slide was a fan favorite. It has been said that Rose worked harder than anyone. He had one speed, and that was go! He never took a play off. Everything Pete did was one hundred percent.

Everything including his bad habits. The worse was his gambling addiction. Some feel that the worst part was that he bet on baseball, but that is not a true statement, it was his horse gambling that was the worst.

He loved the track, but back to baseball, he did bet on it. His betting was far different than the old school Black Sox scandal. He never bet against his team. He never did anything on the Field hoping to win off it.

If anything it says that he had such a trust in his team that he would bet his money that they would win night in and night out. In a way, he did nothing more than the bookies in Vegas do on any given night.

It would be far different if he changed the way the games were played, but he didn't. He is the all time hits leader and needs to be in the Hall!

In due time, both of these baseball superstars may get their bid in the MLB Hall of Fame. Bonds sooner than later, and Rose probably after his death. Either way it is a sad day that both of these players are not locks for their spot.

They are two of the best baseball players to ever pick up a bat. It is time to stop worrying about the past or history of the game, and move forward with the problems we have encountered.

MLB needs to let go of the "love of the game" mantra and grow up. Start living in the new era of baseball and let these guys in!

Staying in School, The Paulus Project

Does the name Reggie Love ring a bell? He is the former Blue Devil that went from two sport star to president's aid. If nothing else, he is proof that the Dukies can provide two sport athletes. The next possible athlete that is making waves is Greg Paulus. Who would have thought that the biggest news out of Durham since their departure from the NCAA tourney would be the senior PG that went from a three year starter to senior cheerleader.

Last week on The Curtis and Kyle Show (curtisandkyle.com), we talked about the possible change. The overall debate seems to favor Greg's decision to pull a backwards Charley Ward move. If Greg has the ability to play football he should try it. Give it a shot. Too many kids in this world are in a hurry to grow up. In a hurry to jump into the work force. It is a funny twist of fate, as a kid you want to grow up, and as an adult you want to be a kid.

Not many people in America can say that they were once a Gatorade player of the year. A much smaller number can say that they broke 6 football records in their high school football career. Greg has a unique set of skills and if he wants to play then people should get off of his back.

It is funny that so many are talking smack. Greg enjoy your dorm room. You will never have this opportunity again. Do what makes you happy. You have the rest of your life to grow up!
