New York Knicks: Could Be a Solid Team

Before I start I would like to say something to all Knick fans:

Stop being emotional. Objectivity is key in building a winning franchise!

So, without further ado: TRADE DAVID LEE

Send Lee to the Blazers for Joel Przybilla, and try and grab Travis Outlaw while your at it.

The Blazers have always been keen on Lee. This trade needs to happen. Yes, the guy hustles his ass off and is the current double-double king of the NBA.

But Joel Przybilla, arguably the most underrated center in the NBA, would be a great addition to the Knicks back-court.

Fact is, the guy can flat out hold his own on the basketball court. He's exactly what the Knicks need with Hill; both are big, can run the floor and know how to defend. In D'Antoni's offensive game we need players that naturally play defense.

Just in case, we should look out for Rubio despite what the general manager had to say. Fact is, Flynn and Rubio can't play together. In my opinion, it's Rubio getting the boot. Donnie and Mike obviously adore the YouTube phenom, so watch out for something there.

Okay, the Darko trade. Well, it was a good pickup for the Knicks, but getting rid of Richardson was betteraspect of the deal.

Nonetheless, Mike believes he can get something out of the bust in his high pace system. He'll bring size and length in a team lacking just that.

Now, with the No. 8 pick of the 2009 NBA draft... the New York Knicks select:

Jordan Hill

Even though we lack a player at the point position, I like this pick. He brings size, presence, and can shoot the rock. Yes, Duhon broke down, so why didn't Donnie go for a point in the draft?

Well, fact is, Duhon isn't a bad option at starting point. He broke down because he wasn't ready for the demolishing minutes he'd receive in Mike's game.

Now, with a whole summer ahead of him, he knows what needs to be done to withstand such a demanding system. Expect big things from Duhon and Hill—if not, at least we can say a Jordan played for the Knicks.

With the 29th pick the Lakers selected Toney Douglas, who was then traded to the Knicks for $3 million and a future second-round draft pick.

So late in the draft the Knicks picked up a defensive, consistent scoring point to back up Duhon or quite possibly replace him—I happen to like the pick-up. However, I wouldn't get too comfortable with the point; he could get packaged in a deal.

With all that said I would like to show you what I want the Knicks to look like in the 2009/2010 season:

Joel Przybilla

Backup: Darko Milicic—Eddy Curry, needs to make appearances to get his trade level up.

Jordan Hill

Backup: Chris Wilcox, could very well play the forward position

Wilson Chandler

Backup: Danilo Gallinari

Travis Outlaw (would like to try him out in this position)

Backup: Al Harrington—Nate Robinson—Larry Hughes, to hopefully be traded very soon

Chris Duhon

Backup: Toney Douglas

I know this starting lineup may not be to your liken but remember, the Knicks were just a few defensive stops and hangs from-the-rim at making it to the playoffs. With this strong defensive back-court and the trigger-happy shooting front-court, the Knicks will sure improve.

Also, please remember, last year and the upcoming year were/are experiments. Who fits and who needs to get the boot.

So, let’s not get mad when the Knicks don’t make it to the playoffs this year.

Rajon Rondo: The Knick Fix?

Tomorrow night, the New York Knicks go into the draft with the No. 8 pick. Their intentions: well, a solid PG.

The draftees hoping to play for the Knicks and, coincidentally, hold the cornerstone franchise as one of their top teams are Rubio, Curry, and Evans— the Knicks are probably looking to draft in this order.

However, just like every player in this draft besides Blake Griffin (predicted to be a more athletic Tim Duncan), you don't know what your getting ; it's considered to be one of the weakest drafts ever.

So, why not give up your slot and go after a proven, seasoned NBA point guard. I mean, wouldn’t that be the smart move? Why waste brain cells on players considered “average” and rookies, at that.

Read this, take your time, and imagine for a second.

Rajon Rondo: A Knick

A triple-threat in the playoffs and almost more spunk the Oakley himself in one of the biggest basketball scenes—I smell success!

However, the other question we should ask ourselves is: Why are the Celtics shopping Rondo? A star in the regular season and a superstar in the playoffs, Rondo almost single-handily carried the Celtics to a championship run.

So, why trade an integral part of your team?

Well, it's reported his ego is bigger than Cristiano Ronaldo's. His swagger and "I'm better than you" scorn doesn't only appear on the basketball court, but the locker room and directly in Doc Rivers face.

Solutions? Maybe he needs a down-to-earth coach like Mike D'Antoni.

Oh, on that note, Doc Rivers isn't the most accessible coach in the NBA.

On the upside, he’s still young and needs direction.

So, Knick community, what ya think?

Rolling The Dice On Eddy Curry

With ever petite or major trade the Knicks have made during the past 10 years of an historic downfall, very few, or better yet, none have actually stuck and made an impact on the cornerstone franchise. Fans begged for results, pleaded for trades that would suit effective and demanded a top-of-line coaching staff to piece all-of-this together.

Well, some years had to pass for only a certain amount of that to happen.

The Knicks landed D'Antoni. Rookie and sophomore players have stepped-up and a 2009 draft pick in Curry or even Evans is certain to fix their back-court troubles—making the upcoming season one to look forward too.

Now, starving-for-some-excitement Knick fans, the focus should immediately fall on their problems in the paint. The issue stands in that they have no center that can shot block, run-the-court, defend and even score.

Sene? Sims? Wilcox? No!

What players could the Knicks acquire? My first option would be Tyson Chandler or someone like Joel Przybilla.

That is very improbable, at least for the upcoming season.

Ladies and Gents, the only Knick front-court fix is, yes, Eddie Curry.

He's a 300 plus pounds, 6-foot-11, monster-of-a center that could of pissed the devil off himself for I have never seen or heard bad luck like Eddie Curry has gone through.

He's had injuries, lawsuits, weight issues, murder cases and burglary issues, among other things.

What does this all add up to? It adds up to depleted confidence and a down-right horrendous basketball player. Not to mention the pairing with Randolph. Nothing went right for Curry these past two seasons.

Past is past however, and Curry finds himself training rigorously. Priority No. 1 is to reinforce the knee and drop 30 pounds. And according to sources, Walsh walked away impressed after witnessing the center’s recent workouts. Maybe it’s just Walsh’s way of campaigning Curry or maybe he’s actually looking that good.

Is a Curry comeback out of this world?

He might just surprise the basketball world, including Knick's fans.

Would a LeBron James Vs Carmelo Anthony Final Be More Intriguing?

Ultimately, we all know the Los Angeles Lakers will pull out of this semi-slump they're facing against a depleted Houston Rocket squad and meet LeBron James' perfect Cleveland club in this year's NBA finals.

For any basketball fan, it's a dream to watch seven games (what it will come down to) of LeBron and Kobe, best basketball players on the planet, edging it out for the coveted ring. One player has to prove he can win a championship by himself (No Shaq), and the other needs one to start his process in becoming the greatest basketball player that ever lived.

However, what doesn't seem crazy is the Lakers continuing to struggle all the way into their matchup with the emerging, dangerous, chemistry-driven Nuggets.

Let's think about it for a sec.

Yes, the Lakers despite being in this slump are the most talented team in the NBA with, arguably, the best player in Kobe. But, Denver falls awfully close, if not slightly above in some positions.

Not to mention, the Melo factor. His sudden resurgence since vowing he would change his mindset from the Olympics and start to focus more on helping his team on both sides of the court while being a leader in the locker room is showing, and big time.

Which is why it's not crazy in seeing the Denver Nuggets actually beating the Lakers and meeting LeBron and the Cavaliers in the finals.

So, my question is, which would you rather see: A LeBron-Kobe final or Melo-LeBron final?

Both sound intriguing, both would most definitely excite, but what's your opinion?

Best New Yawk Point Gods of All-Time?

The demise of the New York point guard is evident. There seems to be nothing on the rise for the exception of Lance Stephenson. So, I thought I would booster my spirits with a look back at history where the the New York point guard tore up the league.

Not in numerical order, just a list of the most prolific NY guards to run up-and-down the NBA courts.

If I'm missing anyone let me know!
Begin Slideshow

Should the Knicks Throw Some Cash at Sam-I-Am?

If the Knicks offered Sam Cassell the league minimum, would he consider playing under the bright lights of MSG?

Have the Knicks even thought of the possibility?

Well, after publicly looking to sign a backup point to help Chris Duhon without hurting their possibilities of acquiring LBJ or Wade in 2010, Sam Cassell could be that guy that finally makes the Knicks a play-off team.

The Celtics looking to add either Stephon Marbury or, quite possibly Joe Smith sent the NBA veteran to the Sacramento Kings—he was released later that day and can now sign with the highest or most attractive bidder.

Possible teams said to be interested in signing Sam-I-Am are the the New Orleans Hornets. They've expressed their need for a veteran point guard to help CP3.

However, the Knicks could have some extra cash to throw at the NBA vet after cutting back with the trades effectuated yesterday.

Chris Duhon is finally starting to feel the wear-and-tear of playing major minutes and Sam Cassell could undoubtedly come in and play a huge role in getting the Knicks to the playoffs while being a mentor and role model for the young players on the Knicks roster.

The three time NBA champs basketball IQ, personality and pairing with Spike Lee is a perfect fit for a Garden finally starting to come alive and, more importantly, could win some ball games in the process.

Let me know what ya think...

The 2010 NYK Starting Lineup

The only Knick right now with a smile on his face is Stephon (left) who is making $21 million doing nothing, and the only Knick fan at this moment content with the team's progress is Spike Lee (right). Why? Well, cause he's Spike Lee!

In a sudden twist, the New York Knick season is quickly resembling the harsh, downpour of snow that unexpectedly hit the streets of New York with a loss to the history chasing Boston Celtics (26-2). The Knicks fell to 11-16 and have lost four straight.

Just some weeks ago, objective, future planning Knickerbocker fans were giddy with the trades of Zach Randolph and Jamaal Crawford. Some even considered it to be the biggest day since they drafted Patrick Ewing in the 1985 NBA draft because of the chances it may be bring to sign all star players in 2010. Others refer to it as just a busy-day-in-the-office.

The trade, as you all know, cleared up a great amount of cap space to potentially sign two superstar players in the 2010 season.

A listing of all the possible free agents in 2010:

Lebron James

Amare Stoudemire

Chris Bosh

Dwayne Wade

Joe Johnson

Dirk Nowitzki

Carlos Boozer

Emmanuel Ginobili

Steve Nash

Bringing one of these players (Lebron James) in can instantly turn a mediocre team into a fairly decent one. Acquiring two (Amare and Johnson) could make you a playoff team. And snatching two with just the right (Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh) chemistry could quite possibly bring you an NBA title.

The Knick organization, just like all their fans, know these players can sign contract extensions before 2010 and stop the giddiness awaiting that offseason.

However, my question is, what will the New York Knicks 2010 starting lineup look like in a trading class of this nature?

I’m thinking this:

Chris Duhon: Exceeding every single expectation when picked up during the summer, the now indisputable Knick point blows out of the water every potential signing guard in the 2010 off season—yes, including Steve Nash! Defense, pass first guard, and quietly becoming a scorer, Duhon is my top candidate to start for the Knicks.

Wilson Chandler: Even though Wilson is slowly proving he can become an all star caliber player, I still have my doubts with him. Regardless, I believe he'll be with the Knicks and starting.

Al Harrington: His dream as a kid was to play for the Knicks. Now that he has the chance, he's taking full advantage. The New Jersey native is averaging great numbers in the orange, white, and blue. Trading Al by then is a huge possibility, but in the end, I believe Walsh's boy is a proper fit for the Knicks and will start opening night, 2010.

Amare Stoudemire: Unhappy with his role in Phoenix, Amare will be the first pick up the Knicks make. In my opinion, when enthused, Stoudemire is the best forward in the league and inside the top five best in the league. Don't be surprised to see Amare on a daily basis display one of his thunderous dunks in MSG.

Chris Bosh: Since Patrick Ewing, the Knicks have been desperately looking for a center. Curry one time gave off that impression, however, failed tremendously last and this year. On the other hand, Chris Bosh may be that person.

With all the names in the 2010 trading class, Bosh is the most likely person to leave his team for a more competitive club. Toronto is arguably the worst team in the league for a superstar to play in, and with its current situation (10-17), look to see Bosh as a Knick.

Bench: If the Knicks are smart, Lee and Robinson are the only players that should stick around. It’ll be hard! Both players could be packaged in a deal before 2010.

The New York Knicks: One Ego, Five Balls

Just the other day I was snooping through my bookshelf. Picking up solids and softs, brushing off dust and dirt which overwhelmed the book covers, and at one time, chased my dog who snatched a Shakespeare book from the floor.

While doing all of this I couldn't help but stop, open, and read the first sports book I ever purchased: The Chaotic Rise of the New York Knicks. A Mike Wise and Frank Isola piece on the up's-and-down's of the historic Knick run to the NBA finals, where they would eventually lose to Robinson's San Antonio Spurs. The front cover showed Sprewell (the quintessential acquisition of the 1998-98 season) about to violently slam it home.

Stories of Jeff Van Gundy, Allan Houston, Latrell Sprewell and the injuries that would prevent Knicks legend Patrick Ewing from contributing in the playoffs is the book substance. A piece, which I thought at the time, was the greatest thing ever (was 13 years old) described the last exciting season in the Garden. The concluding season when Knick fans tippy-toed from the excitement. Where celebrities filled the front rows. Where Spike Lee harassed Knick-killer, Reggie Miller.

A time when the Knicks were feared and Madison Square Garden was seen in another light.

We all know what happened next.

Y2K came pouring in...Isaiah showed up, all Dolan did was play the guitar and Stephon became Starbury.

That pretty much sums up where the New York Knicks went wrong. Not going to get deeper than that. The Knicks are entering a new chapter and are headed down the right path.

I digress, back to the book. I started to browse and look at some pictures when I came upon a great quote I stupidly forgot over the years. Written by former post columnist, Larry Merchant:

“Some people say that basketball has been described as a game of five egos and one ball. However, the Knicks play as though they have one ego and five balls”

Surprisingly this quote had nothing to do with the 1998/99 Knickerbockers, the Ewing era and of course nothing remotely close to the 2000 Knicks.

Merchant was referring to the Willis Reed Knicks. The Walt Frazier Knicks and more importantly, the William “Red” Holzman Knicks.

A team that filled the eyes with tears and the heart with passion. A basketball team aiming for one goal, a championship.

Ladies and gents... I might be getting ahead of myself here, but after watching the Knicks in the first four preseason games and witnessing the attitude change D'Antoni is instilling in all his players... The New York Knicks are on the path to becoming championship contenders—they must sign Lee and trade Curry.

Alone in this I may be. However, I cannot help but get excited on the path the Knicks are taking.

They look like a unit of selfless players aiming for that championship. A squad that wants to play!

In the 59 years the New York Knicks have been a part of the NBA they’ve only held up the championship trophy twice. Well, to all you Knickerbockers. That’s all about to change. And, just so you know this is me being objective not a fan.

The Knicks under D’Antoni are starting to play with five balls and one ego. There smilin', runnin', carin', there just ballin'.

Separating the Star from Bury to Be Simply Marbury

For the past seven years, the New York Knicks have been a team overrun with turmoil and blasphemy, sorrows and disappointments—and most importantly, the abandonment of lifelong fans to the team next door, the New Jersey Nets.

These occurrences have produced the inevitable question:

What can the Knicks do to get out of this dry spell?

Well, they can forge a plan—and the Knicks have finally begun to construe one.

They started by firing Isiah Thomas from both the coach and GM positions. They acquired Donnie Walsh to fill the latter, who snatched the Knicks' best pickup all summer, Mike D'Antoni, to assume the former.

All seemed well. The Knicks looked like they actually cared again when they hit draft night and acquired Danilo Gallinari at the number-six spot, Chris Duhon from the Chicago Bulls, Detroit native Anthony Roberson (who was playing in Turkey), and Patrick Ewing Jr. from the Houston Rockets. All players with enough athletic ability to play under D’Antoni’s basketball scheme.

Now, the next step was to start to free up cap space by cutting either Curry, Stephon, Randolph, Rose, or James. Months of trade speculations surrounded the club, but nothing was executed—leaving the roster relatively the same

Not the best move, but their was nothing the Knicks could do. The other teams wanted way too much from an organization at the beginning of their rebuilding process.

Fans fell to their knees, covered their face, shrugged their shoulders, and chanted out slurs.

Turmoil stopped for a while. Knick fans asked and begged for some current news on the Knicks as they entered training camp in Saratoga Springs—the occasional Marbury bomb here and there, but mostly quiet! At least for the Knicks.

Until the expected occurred. Disaster lurking in the shadowy corner showed its face when it was reported that Danilo Galinari's back problem was more serious than thought, and he would be out for the rest of the preseason. Eddy Curry arrived overweight, then missed the first week of training camp with a bacterial stomach virus and Jared Jefferies broke his leg during morning practice.

Jefferies is expected to enter a hyperbaric chamber to accelerate the healing process - same medical procedure T.O did in Philadelphia. Jefferies was expected to play major minutes this season.

Yet again, the Knicks looked disastrous and seem destined to go through another losing season. Their schedule doesn't favor them, and their Eastern Conference rivals are reinforced and ready to go.

However, just when you thought the season was over yet again—a glimmer of light shone on the New York Knicks training facility.

"I don't want to go through any more distractions. I want all of us to concentrate on winning and not if I'm going to start or not. I want us to be able to go forward. If the Knicks want me to come off the bench, that's what I'm going to do. I just want to win a championship in New York because we as New Yorkers deserve a 'chip."

The words of Stephon Marbury—bearer of bad news for the Knicks organization in the last couple of seasons—showing his human side, and demonstrating a mature facet.

Is this the key to success for the Knicks this season—Marbury coming off the bench and showing maturity and leadership for a team that desperately needs it?

Relieving Marbury of the starting position could be beneficial. Duhon, a pass-first point guard, has been said to run D’Antoni’s run-and-gun offense like a glove. With Marbury coming of the bench as scoring threat, the Knicks can most definitely expect major improvements this season.

I see no complication in Lee playing center and Randolph playing the power position. This year our center (Lee) will concern himself more with rebounds and defense while Randolph can do what he does best—score. The only complication is I see no major minutes for Chandler, who looks to be the future star of this team.

Everything happens for a reason. Marbury's summer retreat to the wilderness could've finally erased that egotistic perception he had of life. Randolph being told he would have to fight for his position may have triggered the fight and team-oriented play in him The young guns and old dogs may have started to realize what needs to be done to bring the Knicks organization back to glory.

The Knicks open their preseason play against the new-look Toronto Raptors. It will be interesting to see who D'Antoni starts. More importantly, it will be interesting to see how Marbury reacts.

Scratch That! Marbury to Appear at Training Camp with Allan Houston

After months of intense rumors, Stephon Marbury will show up to training camp in Saratoga Springs and not be waived by the end of the week like expected.

A close source to the Knicks organization confirmed that Starbury would be waived and, most likely, picked up by the Miami Heat. However, in a brief telephone interview with ESPN.com Tuesday evening, Donnie Walsh had this to say:

"He's coming to training camp.”

The Coney Island native is said to be in the best shape of his life after running up mountains and through woods during the summer.

The controversial Knick is coming off a terrible season, averaging career lows in points (13.9), assists (4.7), rebounds (2.5) and minutes (33.6).

Allan Houston is also expected to show up at training camp. They say the sharp shooter still has it but is not assured a spot on the roster.

Houston made a comeback last year but was not in proper basketball shape. The shooting guard averaged 17.3 points over his 12-year career.

Should the Knicks have denied the opportunity of both Marbury and Houston?

Marbury is considered to be a backpacking basketball player for being with numerous teams during his NBA career and has averaged all-star numbers in every one of them, but never got his team past the first round of the playoffs.

Nothing changed with his arrival to New York. Marbury has failed to get past the first round of the playoffs, bailed on his team during the regular season, and was considered a distraction in the locker room.

Houston, on the other hand, was always an outstanding Knick, on and off the court. His arrival would be beneficial only if he can keep up and if he still has that shot considered to be one of the best in the last decade.

Breaking News: Stephon Marbury Will Be Waived by the End of the Week

According to Newsday the New York Knicks will waive Stephon Marbury by the end of the week. New York Knicks owner James Dolan must approve of Donnie’s decision before finalizing the transaction.

The tattoo-headed Knick started his career in Madison Square Garden in 2004 when he was traded from Phoenix for Howard Eisley, Charlie Ward, Antonio McDyess, Maciej Lampe, and an additional future first round pick in 2010.

It was said if Stephon Marbury played for his hometown team he would change his egotistical, shoot first ways and play team-oriented basketball due to his passion for the New York ball club. Boy, were they wrong!

Now, the Coney Island native will be placed on waivers by the end of the week and will be able to sign with any team he wants once cleared.

Pat Riley's Miami Heat seem to be the most interested in Stephon. They lack a veteran point guard with the departure of Jason Williams to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Scouting Report Anticipates Another Losing Season for Knicks

As we all know the New York Knicks have acquired several players to their roster in Gallinari, Duhon, Roberson and Ewing. Their expected to trade Zach Randolph, waive Stephon Marbury and try and get Jerome James to retire. Not to mention the installment of basketball guru Donnie Walsh and shoot first head coach, Mike D’Antoni to the ball club.

With all these acquisitions it’s almost impossible not to ponder over how the Knicks will do in this year’s upcoming season.

Can Mike D'Antoni finally get these players to gel?

Will this be the breakout year of Chandler, Crawford and Gallinari?

Is there any chance of a winning season?

Questions taken under thorough consideration from the STN scouting report which predicted the Knicks under Mike D’Antoni will only win 28 games, 6 more if Walsh decides to part ways with Zach Randolph.

Last year’s STN evaluation of the Knicks under Isiah Thomas predicted a 26 game win season, surprisingly close to their devastating 23 win season – equaling their franchise low under Larry Brown.

The predicted 28 win season seems about right, not so sure about the 6 more wins with Randolph leaving the ball club.

The NBA’s roller coaster team will first have to dissect Mike D’Antoni’s basketball scheme and then consolidate it on the court – one season looks rather hard for a group of players supposedly not Antoniesk

Fortunately, time is not of the essence for the Knicks. The expect to insert themselves back into the league as championship contenders in the 2010 season or more known as “The year of Lebron”.

Meanwhile, everything else, should only be considered as a science experiment.

The New York Knicks And The Return Of Allan Houston

So far the New York Knicks off-season has been a loud one.

They hired a high tempo, European style coach for arguably the slowest team in the NBA...

The team is in complete disarray, they have a point guard more known for his night life than his on court play, an Italian stallion picked sixth in the draft (but seemingly too weak for the NBA game), they acquired Pat...rick Ew..ing Jr for an already packed forward position, and trade rumors insist Zach Randolph and his horse play will be moving to Memphis. Not to mention Starbury and his status in the ball club.

And now the possible comeback of New York Knick Allan Houston?

The 37-year-old Allan Houston, who was forced to retire in 2005 to a chronic knee injury, plans on making another come back with the Knicks this season.

According to multiple sources, Houston has been practicing and lifting weights all winter long to see if he can get an invite from Walsh for training camp later this month in Saratoga Springs.

Houston attempted a come back last year, but only played in one preseason game when he realized he wasn't able to keep up at an NBA level.

It seems the Knicks are set in the shooting guard position with players like Crawford and Richardson. Many expect Jamal Crawford, who was the Knicks' leading scorer last season, to flourish under D’Antoni's system due to his playground-like play, and Richardson had his best season playing with The Italian league MVP in Phoenix.

However, if Houston shows he can still shoot the ball they Knicks might consider acquiring the once NBA All Star.

The Knicks are supposedly ready to offer Houston a business position inside the organization if he fails to impress.

Donnie Walsh Backing Off a Trade He Initiated?

According to close sources the trade involving New York Knick Zach Randolph for Serbians Marko Jaric and Darko Milicic are intensifying and expected to finalize after Monday. Walsh has confirmed organizations have been conversing, but denies a done deal.

The trade that would send Z-Bo to Memphis would be beneficial for the New York squad due to his supposed inefficiency to play under the D’Antoni system. Also, and more importantly, Randolph’s $48 million throughout the 2010-2011 season will be off the books and his locker room and on court circus play would be long gone.

In July, Walsh almost traded Randolph to the Clippers but denied the offer, stating he could get much more for the second-leading Knicks scorer.

Throughout their careers Milicic and Marko have never lived up to their expectations, especially Milicic who was drafted second after LeBron James. However, Z-Bo’s departure is an opportunity to clear substantial cap space in preparation for the Knicks' pursuit of blue chip players in the 2010 season.

This trade will put the Knicks' two players over the maximum 15. However, the forward position will be wide open for players of extreme potential in Lee and Chandler who seem appropriate under D'Antoni's high tempo style.

Patrick Ewing Jr’s Basketball Skills May Not Be Tested but His Penmanship Will

The trades the New York Knicks effectuated during the off season have been somewhat assertive. Their need to go after players that seem to be "right" for the job or that show promise (Chris Duhon, Anthony Roberson, and Gallinari) in a two-year future in my opinion, is the right thing to do. (As opposed to hiring a big name for big bucks and big time but no big results!)

I'm sick of falling deeper and deeper into the abyss known as cap space.

Maybe it's the new mindset Donnie Walsh wants to incorporate into his hometown team…or, it just may be the very simple and realistic view that the Knicks do not want to go after big names until the 2010 season and that's the only reason why they haven't gone back to their old ways.

Who knows? Donnie Walsh did hire a coach with a high tempo basketball mind! Go figure...the Knicks are probably the slowest team in the league.

However, the acquiring of Patrick Ewing Jr., is probably one of the most stunning moves the Knicks will make this off season, and may be the smartest one yet.

Yes, the smartest!

If you know anything about Patrick Ewing Jr. and his college career you’ll see an explosive defender and that’s pretty much it. He owns no offensive skills and no incredible athleticism that would make him stand out in a Knicks roster packed with forwards (Chandler, Lee, and Z-BO) that can play on both sides of the court.

So…making the move to acquire Ewing Jr. should be seen as nothing more than a marketing scheme. Another Ewing jersey running up-and-down Madison Square Garden after all this time will most definitely get more people to the games, sell more jerseys and inevitably acquire more publicity for what was once the cornerstone franchise of the the National Basketball Association.

Can Ewing Jr. make the squad and prove everyone wrong? Or will he be over shadowed by his father?

Well, the good thing is if he's half of what his pops was, he'll do fine...New York needs any Ewing they can get!

It's said that he's a long shot to win a roster spot when the Knicks hold training camp in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. in October.

With Patrick Ewing, Jr. the Legacy Continues

In a surprising turn of events the New York Knicks landed Patrick Ewing, Jr. in exchange for the draft rights of Frederic Weis. The French center is currently playing for a Spanish club but is more known for being posterized by Vince Carter in arguably the best dunk ever.

Ewing Jr. was selected by the Sacramento Kings in the second round of the 2008 NBA draft at the 43rd pick. He obviously isn't expected to have the same impact as his famous father, however his athleticism and explosive defense may be something the Knicks need coming off the bench.

"Coming to the Knicks, and hopefully being able to contribute, means a lot to me," Ewing Jr. said in a statement. "It has always been my dream to play for this team. My goal is to show the coaches that I can play and do all that I can to help the team win some games."

The younger Ewing, just like his father, played in Georgetown. There he averaged 6.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in his final year, winning the Big East Sixth Man of the Year award. He is now 24 years old.

Ewing Sr. led the Hoyas to three final fours and one national championship in 1984. He currently leads the Knicks in almost every single category, including steals.

Here's what Ewing, an assistant coach with the Orlando Magic, had to say about his son being traded to the Knicks:

"I am very happy my son will follow in my footsteps. Hopefully he will have a long and productive career in New York. I am proud of him and wish him nothing but success."

This Just In...Karl Malone Is Itching All Over

The two-time MVP with arguably the sharpest elbows, work ethic, and over all power in NBA history has the itch...

It's reported that the "mailman" may consider coming out of retirement to teach current players how to play aggressive defense in a brutal Western Conference filled with big men.

No one actual believes Malone will consider coming out of retirement, no matter the offer. Plus, the season approaches and Malone's physical shape is a question mark.

Would an old and possibly out of shape Malone help the young Utah squad?

He's determination to play rock solid defense every game and the experience he could provide for players yet to peak on the defensive end of the court could help the frustrated Utah squad on their path to a NBA championship.

On the other hand, an old Malone would possibly slow down a fast tempo team run by Olympic gold medalist Deron Williams who prefers to run the ball rather than stop for half court play.

I personally believe it's a mistake. The Utah Jazz should focus on trying to land another big man (Boozer needs help) and shooting guard (no pure shooting guard) in the 2010 season.

What do you think?

Introducing The "Reminding Team"

Thirty-six years have passed since basketball was introduced into the Olympic Games as a legit medal sport. Since then, U.S basketball reigned. They ruthlessly embarrassed their opponents with athleticism, sharp shooting, toughness, and over all talent.

U.S Men’s Olympic Squad holds an astounding record of 12 gold’s, one sliver (refused to accept it) and two bronze medals, one being in the disappointing performance of the 2004 Olympics Games held in Athens, Greece.

The World Championship record isn’t as impressive with only three gold’s, three silver’s, and four bronze medals.

However, after seeing ruthless D, undeniable leadership from all players, and a team not filled with the NBA's superstars but with super friends, I can now say, Sunday's defeat of Spain will place this "Reminding Team" back on the podium draped under American flags, heads risen to the star spangled banner, and proudly wearing an Olympic gold medal.

People might be thinking, what? Didn't his previous article say? I never said they would lose but how I only respected and feared at times the rest of the world. Nevertheless, in the back of my mind I always knew the U.S Men’s Olympic Basketball team would win.

But didn't want to say it because of past failures and the "catching up of teams," I just didn’t want to talk. Fact is, the talent and chemistry teams like Argentina and Spain have convinced me to keep my mouth shut until after the results.

I was far from right!

The pulverizing of European juggernauts (Spain and Lithuania) and South American spunk (Argentina) we can safely and proudly shout…

U.S Men’s Basketball Olympic Squad is number one, yet again.

A team formed not only to win the gold but to REMIND other basketball enhanced nations, that “There’s only one squad"…And there’s nothing you can do about it.

Besides a few statements on the stature of the North American Squad follows my apologies. I know they won’t read it, but you should always have faith in a team with arguably the most talented players in the world, and more importantly your colors.

World domination...check!

Kobe Bryant May Consider Italy as NBA Battles World

<![endif]-->

Is the European league’s status in the basketball world growing?

Most definitely, yes!

There strong teams, players, money offers and quite possibly better country selection squads already caught the eyes of super star LeBron James, but now, league-MVP Kobe Bryant.

After hearing about King James and the offers he may receive to play overseas for the rumored amount of $50 million a year, Bryant said he wouldn't mind playing for an Italian team if offered the same price.

“I’d go. I’d probably go,” said Bryant, during a USA Basketball press conference on Friday morning. “Like Milan or something like that, where I grew up or something like that… Peace out.”

Bryant continued: “Do you know any reasonable person that would turn down 50 (million dollars)?”

The Los Angeles star grew up in Italy, while his father Joe played professionally. In 1999, Bryant bought 50 percent ownership of Olimpia Milano of the Italian Professional Basketball League.

He also stated in an interview held by the Boston globe:

“Because I grew up in Italy it has more significance to me because I’m more familiar with it, I’ve been there and I still have friends there,” said Bryant, a three-time NBA champion. “I’m thinking about buying a house out there. It would be nothing to me to be able to do that.”

These comments by Bryant and James, and with the departure of Josh Childress and Earl Boykins, among others, could massacre the best league in the world. David Stern has a lot of work to do over the summer in trying to figure out how to counter attack.

Kobe's statements not only hurts the NBA, but the Western Conference champs. Last summer, Bryant also made remarks that hurt his team with him wanting to be traded. Now, number 24 comes out with these statements after, owner Jerry Buss did everything possible in his pursuit for a championship.

Did Kobe really grow up like everyone said he has? Or is $50 million a year too tempting of an offer?

Let me know!

Aussie Patrick Mills: Keep a Very Close Eye

After the Australia—U.S. match-up I came to a couple conclusions: The United States team doesn’t have enough chemistry to win the gold in the Olympics and Patrick Mills is the point guard of the future, playing in the present.

This 19-year-old Aussie may be faster than any point guard in the NBA or Europe. He can also dish the ball and handle it comfortably with both hands.

These statements may sound a bit premature, and I will most definitely will get slack for them, but in three years Patrick Mills will be a star in the NBA. After watching him play in the Olympic Games and in college, I can see that he is better than any up-and-coming guard in the league now.

This is what Mills had to say after his performance against the Dream Team:

“It was my first experience playing against the USA," he said. "I was a little bit nervous at the beginning, but once you get on the court it is all excitement. This is one game that I learned a lot from. From the point guards to their big men and just the style of play the USA has…I learned a lot."

He learned more than a lot. At one point, he had Chris Paul trying to verbally distract him because the Hornets star just couldn’t keep up.

The third-ever aboriginal Australian to put on the green and yellow had the night of his life. Just like his fellow countrymen Shane Heal and Andrew Bogut, he may be the next Australian to play in the NBA.

You may think I’m over exaggerating because he only had 13 points, but it was the way he scored those points on the tough North American defense. Mills is the only college player in the Olympics, but he dished the ball and maintained a keen vision of the floor like a pro.

Mills's performance makes one wonder how many great prospects the world has in store for the NBA.

After seeing the Aussie’s play Tuesday, the Chinese media began to question whether it is really that tough to penetrate the U.S. defense.

According to Mills, it wasn't as easy as he made it look.

"Definitely not. It's very intimidating for someone my size," Mills said. "It's definitely not easy."

Mills just finished a solid freshman year in St. Mary’s.

Here are some of his credentials:

2008—WCC Newcomer of the Year, All-WCC First Team

2007—MVP Outrigger Hotels Rainbow Classic, Saint Mary's College Tournament Champions

2007—West Coast Conference Player of the Month: December 2007

2007—West Coast Conference Player of the Week: November 26, 2007 and December 26, 2007

2007—In just his fourth NCAA game for Saint Mary's, Patrick dominated with 37 points against Oregon—the sixth best return in the school's history, and best by a first year player.

2007—Australia Post Boomers squad member; Under 19 Men's      squad member;

2006—Boomers squad member (youngest at 17 years of age); AIS scholarship; Australian Junior Camp; U20 World team at Nike Hoops Summit (USA); U20 National Championships representing ACT and RE Staunton Medalist

2005—AIS scholarship; Australian Junior Camp; Youth Olympic Festival Australian Men’s team (gold); U18 National Championships representing ACT

2004—U18 National Championships representing ACT

2003—Marist All Ages Basketball Tournament—MVP

US Men’s Olympic Basketball: NBA Foreigners Talk Dream Team Chances

Today concluded the final exhibition game for the US Men’s basketball squad. They faced Australia, contender to at least take the bronze in these Olympic Games, and proved their no nonsense basketball by almost ousting Argentina a couple days back.

Dwayne Wade led all scorers with 22 in the 87-76 win and, in my very honest opinion, it was a quite embarrassing one over the boys from down-under who played without their best player, Andrew Bogut.

However, foreigners that go by the name of Luis Scola and Dirk Nowitzki believe the US is ready to go and is the team that will most definitely achieve the gold in this year’s Olympic Games.

Here are the following statements from NBA players competing for their respective countries:

Linus Kleiza, Lithuania

"US is the best team in the world, there's no question about it—the talent they have and the way they play. But the one thing about it is, it's just one game; everybody's beatable on a given night.

"So you got great teams like Spain, Argentina, us, Russia—it's going to be very tough. Like I said, everybody's beatable on a given night; it's not a seven-game series. Nobody can beat the US in a seven-game series, but we can definitely like our chances beating them one game."

Luis Scola, Argentina

"They were dominating and they were playing great (last summer). They were playing solid. They got what they need to be Olympic champions. But I think playing in America is different than playing in the rest of the world because the American teams are pretty much NBA-oriented.

"They wanna to run, they gonna shoot, they don't want to play really, really solid defense. You got people who try to play this way. I think it's impossible to beat the NBA players that way because it's the way they're really the best.

"When you play these European teams it's different. They play much more like a block; it's really more difficult to get points, it's really difficult to get 100 points in a game. It's hard to run, they play extremely physical.

"So I think it's going to be a little bit different. Maybe (the US will) dominate because they can do it if they're open. But maybe they don't, like it's been happening at the last championships."

Carlos Delfino, Argentina

"After (the 1992 US Olympic team in) Barcelona, I think this is the best team ever for the US—many talented players in the group. You know that when you face them in a tournament, especially in a FIBA tournament. You try to go after their weaknesses, as there are different rules in international play.

"So hopefully for us, we can find some weaknesses in the great group they have."

Darius Songaila, Lithuania

"It's a lot more versatile. The European game has a lot more mid-range game with the three-point line being closer and the defensive mind and the three-second rule.

"So it's a lot more mid-range and I think that's what they got when they put the team together, starting with Carmelo and LeBron and Kobe and all those guys. I think they can be successful."

Dirk Nowitzki, Germany

"They showed in Las Vegas during qualifications what they've got, with Kobe now and LeBron, and Carmelo and all those boys. Apparently, they looked pretty sharp in Vegas. That's what I heard, I didn't see any games. But I guess that's the team to beat.

"Other than that there's Argentina, and Spain looked pretty sharp at Eurobasket. There are a lot of talented teams, and it's going to be a fun Olympics."

Juan Carlos Navarro, Spain

"My impression is that the last four or five years, they don't make good work. Everybody expect this year they win Olympic Games. It's a great team with a lot of players and if they play together, it's going to be hard to win against them...Spain and Argentina (match up well); I think five teams are closing. But if (the Americans) are completely a team, it's difficult."

Andrew Bogut, Australia

"Obviously, the USA every year is going to be the clear-cut favorite. They have the best players in the world, it's a matter of if they come together and have the right group. But they'll definitely be the favorites...FIBA's much more team-orientated as opposed to one-on-one basketball.

"So I think when the Team USA has to kind of adjust to that different style, it takes them a couple games. And I think once they adjust they'll still be the favorites...I think USA might even have some cheers more over there as opposed to usually when the US plays in Europe, they get booed and they get a pretty hostile crowd that wants to beat them.

"I think the Chinese really appreciate seeing an NBA player so the fans there will be good to them."

Andrei Kirilenko, Russia

"I think definitely the American team is the favorite. They really have a great lineup, they really have great guys on the team and they're really motivated. They really, in my opinion, will be the team to win.

"But there's a few teams which will be very tough, which are hard to beat, like Argentina, like Spain, like Greece. Those teams really can be great mention because on a certain night, there’s certain factor, and those teams can beat the American team. But still the American team is the favorite."

Today's score against the Aussies proves the US squad, even with the NBA's best, have a long way to go. It takes discipline and team work, not constant fast-breaks and huge dunks.

Plus, shooting is huge in the Olympics and the only REAL shooter they have is Michael Redd who, let's face it, won't get major time.

Again, I need to see more and don't care if their enemies say they're a shoe in. I need to see it!

Tell me, if you think I'm wrong...

U.S. Men’s Olympic Team Should Fear European Juggernauts

For the past few days I’ve been watching the U.S men’s Olympic basketball team, and I have not liked what I've seen.

All I saw with this hyped, star-studded basketball squad was cocky attitudes (Chris Paul stepping over the Turkey guard), inexperienced players, too many fast breaks, and no half-court play.

Let's be real.

Turkey, Lithuania, and Russia aren't competitors, and are most certainly not teams the red, white, and blue are going to face in the finals, or even in the quarterfinals.

I refuse to watch any more U.S men's basketball games until they face real contenders with a Ginobili, Calderon, or Gasol posting up or hitting threes on the other end.

So here's the question: Can the North American team pull off the same stunts against Argentina, Greece, Spain, and even Australia?

I think not, and truly believe that this over-hyped team has a very slim chance to capture the gold, even with their tremendous talent.

You think I'm wrong? Well, here are three huge reasons why I'm right:

Chemistry

Players on former reigning world champions Argentina and Spain have been playing together for years and understand the F.I.B.A rules.

Those advantages and their talent give them a huge advantage down the stretch. Plus, half of the players on these European teams are the go-to-guys on their respective clubs.

Height

The size of the North Americans worries me. Even with man-child Dwight Howard, who is quite possibly the best and strongest center in the world, and Chris Bosh.

They're the only size on the U.S. squad, with Boozer and Prince coming in next. And if you believe that Tayshuan and Carlos can handle a European center with ease, then you underestimate the basketball I.Q. and talent of the European big men.

F.I.B.A Rules

From past experience, the European rules have been somewhat of an annoyance for the U.S. team, and most definitely will be a huge disadvantage for the players on the team that have never played under the F.I.B.A rule book.

This could affect them in crucial games down the stretch.

These are the elements I believe will put the U.S. "Dream Team" on the ropes for a small part of the games, mostly quarters and up.

If you think I'm wrong tell me why!

New York Knicks: 4 to 1 Assist to Turnover Ratio or Explosive Point?

NBA free agency has been in full effect over the past few days, with Baron Davis surprisingly signing to the Los Angeles Clippers, while other blue chip players of the league, like Corey Maggete, Josh Smith, and Elton Brand among others, are rumored to make their decision any day now.

However, the only player the New York Knicks feel will not hurt their cap-space plan and actually help them during the 2009/2010 season is current Bulls guard, Chris Duhon.

While a ton of Knick fans believe signing the night club extraordinaire to a two-year-deal is a bad thing, I beg to differ.

The Knicks are in desperate need of a point guard, with Stephon Marbury unlikely staying with the club. On top of that, a pass-first point with excellent ball handling skills and great defense are characteristics the cornerstone club hasn't seen since Mark Jackson or Charlie Ward.

And let us not forget the Knicks never accomplished anything great with a commander and chief like Marbury. This makes Duhon a great selection for the top spot in NYC.

However, with all the great basketball qualities Chris possesses, I can't just sit back and ignore the interest Monta Ellis has for the New York Knicks.

The dynamic young guard who is expecting a better offer than the Knicks can afford or want to give up due to the 2010 scheme, fits better into the D`Antoni`s game. But don't get me wrong, it’s all well and good. Waiting for the most talented players in the NBA is not a bad plan.

Nevertheless, the interest Monta Ellis has in the Knicks is very interesting. Nine other teams with more cap space are believed to be interested in Ellis, however it is rumored his desire to play for the Knicks is greater – so an inside source say’s.

Ellis's agent, Jeff Fried, made no comment on behalf of Ellis’s remarks but solely referred to the Warriors and their belief that he is the future point of the club, even more so now with Davis’s departure. It's expected the Golden State Warriors are going to offer a ten million per season in a six-to-seven year deal.

My question on this situation is should the Knicks, take, yet again another risk and offer Monta Ellis a mouth-drooling deal or stick to the 2010 plan and sign Chris Duhon, saying he denies the Orlando Magic offer?

Let me know...

Hunting: Trophy Hunters Killing More Polar Bears Than Global Warming

Sports used to be a world where not just I, but any individual on this earth could relax over a beer and beside a couple of buddies. We all no this no longer exists.

Well, the sit-down-with-a-buddy factor, no, but watching the players run onto the field or court without a scorn or remark, yes. Whether referring to Roger Clemens, Tim Donaghy, or the past of Pac Man Jones, the sports world has lost credibility in my book.

However, the actions of these sports characters have no weight on the ruthless individuals that engage in hunting, or bull fighting, and even those that consider it a sport!

The reason I write about this subject over the Knicks acquiring "The Italian Stallion" over their obvious need for a point guard, or the Euro League is because if you really think about it, and if you're an objective human being… This really matters!

Not saying the "real sports world" isn't important because I love my Knicks. But the survival of these animals that have "no say" in their OWN death and absolutely no way of defending themselves against the technology these scoundrels possess is not justice and should not exist.

Even so, fortunately over a month ago the U.S Fish and Wildlife granted polar bears federal protection from the dreaded trophy hunters. These animals now rest safely in the U.S from the weapons of mass destruction killers possess.

However, this grant is not sitting well with the big game trophy hunter's club, Safari Club International, who is suing the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service to retract polar bear trophy importing.

But, unfortunately, it is legal to hunt in Canada, and the U.S trophy hunters are now travelling to Canada to hunt down and kill an already endangered species. An astounding number of over nine-hundred polar bear heads and hides have been imported from Canada since 1994.

Again, 900 heads and hides! And since these massive bears are already dying due to global warming, being hunted is obviously no help and quite unfortunate.

We must do whatever we can to help these animals from reaching extinction. Please, send an email to U.S. and Wildlife Service Director Halls to ban importing polar bear hunting trophies from Canada:

Ken Griffey Jr: The Quiet March to 600

The memories gained from baseball are many. Whether sitting back with a beer in front of a TV or driving to the ball park on a sunny afternoon and relaxing beside a ranting fan and a hot dog, America's sport is as gratifying as it gets.

However, the actions in the baseball world over the past couple of years have only given the motivation to change the channel.

Enhancing drugs, trials derived from usage of enhancing drugs, and lies, which will undoubtedly be taken to the grave of players before heading to a jail cell, has tired the souls of the baseball community.

So watching a young pitcher survive cancer to comeback and throw the game of his of life or witnessing Manny Ramirez high five a fan before throwing out the runner fills the soul and brings us back, little by little, to the game we love.

However, writing or speaking about a career that Ken Griffey Jr. could have had, breaks the heart.

A player never rumored to be taking steroids or involved in distractions off the field, only to be held back by injuries, is devastating. This is a factor that has Barry Bonds relieved until Alex Rodriguez accomplishes the unstoppable.

The stats that could have been achieved on Junior's talent are unimaginable, and the baseball's 2008 wrinkled face could have received an immediate face lift with the records "The Natural" would have broken.

So, watching a crushed ball land in the high seats from what could have been the greatest all-around baseball player ever will be priceless.

And the sensation of reaching the select 600 home run club has been long due in his career and for all Griffey fans from around the world.

A feat that speaks volumes and transcends time!

An early congratulations to Ken “The Kid” Griffey Jr. and the inevitable.

LeBron James: Can Basketball Mecca New York Knicks Land a King?

The thoughts that ran threw the mind of LeBron James after the 97-92 loss to the Boston Celtics must have been many:

“We lost”

“Should have had the ball in my hands more”

However, as he bowed his head and made a quick exit to the locker room only one thought I believe stuck—"what else do I have to do?"

After the game, King James made his usual press conference appearance where he showed maturity, giving props to Paul Pierce and the Boston Celtics.

I couldn't help noticing that his head was just not there.

Now, Lebron James has to wait months for the season to begin. And, it's rumored he will begin pondering whether he should stay with the Cleveland Cavaliers or not. The 2010 season is not far off, and the teams interested in him offer way too much.

In addition, the Cavs don't hold any franchise-changing number in the draft to inhance the Lebron squad—another incentive to leave his present team behind.

What are the necessary elements to allure a player like Lebron James?

How about a world famous stadium, millions of endorsement dollars, crowds filled with celebrities, a winning line-up, and an experienced coaching staff.

Folks, that reads the Knicks! Not now, of course—this is to say cap space is achieved.

Nevertheless, this is not the only factor that has man-child James interested in Gotham. Other attractive elements include a new coach in Mike D'Antoni and the great chances of landing a franchise-changing player in 2008 NBA draft.

All the same, Knicks fans must not get excited over the possible acquiring of No. 23. On the outskirts of the New York, Lebron frenzy lays quietly beside a Destiny's Child.

Hip hop mogul and Brooklynite, Jay-Z, is expected to represent the Nets in the draft—and ruin the plans of Donnie Walsh.

Sean Carter and LBJ, two kings in their own category have become great friends and with the possible re-location to Brooklyn, James may be rethinking the white, orange, and blue for the gray, red, and white.

However, has anyone really thought if Lebron is the best option for the New York Knicks?

Besides money, fame, and the obvious transformation into a powerful Eastern Conference team—distraction and mayhem are part of the New York Knicks' package.

This may be too much for a player coming into his 4th season. In addition, other blue-chip players of the league are planning to part from their teams—giving the Knicks much more options to choose from!

This being said - the only reason acquiring the Akron native becomes a think piece is the grand amount of blue-chip players who are set to leave their teams in the 2010 season.

Even though a large amount of these players will be held back by opt-outs and contract extensions-the list includes Rip Hamilton, Kobe Bryant, Amare Stoudemire, Manu Ginobili, Dirk Nowitzki, Carlos Boozer, and others.

Talented crop of players!

Ladies and gentleman! A bidding war awaits us…

New York Knicks: James Dolan Still Running the Show

As we already know, the Utah Jazz and San Antonio Spurs have tied their series two apiece. Scott Skiles is a Milwaukeeite. And, perhaps at this very instant, Mike D’Antoni is on the phone with his real estate agent trying to convince Alex Rodriguez’s to sell him his suite in the Trump Towers, after the falling out of the two New York socialites.

However, news not so widely known is that James Dolan, Chairman of the New York Knicks, is still pulling the strings, though it was confirmed he would back off—one of the agreements Donnie Walsh demanded when taking over.

Yet, why do I feel this is not true, and my once high expectations of Donnie Walsh suddenly have taken a dive into a water-less pool?

The Bronx native's career has now begun and, to my mind, in the worst manner by hiring a coach like Mike D’Antoni.

The athletic mindset of the former Sun just happens to be everything the Knicks don’t need and don’t have (except for Jamaal Crawford)! We all know the possibility is there. A D’Antoni fusion with the Knick pieces might work.

Nonetheless, defying the odds rather than selecting the right coach for the job is a no-no in my book. And, yet again, big names overpower sentiment while James Dolan apparently has found himself a new puppet.

The guitar-riffing owner shares the blame with Isiah for why the Knicks have fallen to the abandoned corners of the league. And, unfortunately, money (blood) has yet again proven to be more attractive.

Yes, money—not a winning franchise—is what James Dolan seeks.

I say this because the New York Knicks, no matter what they do, will always have an enormous number of dollars. On top of that, they will never stop being one of the cornerstone franchises of the NBA.

So, why hire a coach that focuses strictly on outscoring a club rather than providing a offensive/deffensive ambiance to MadisonSqaure Garden Court - something that has not been seen since the 2001 season.

Even so, a basketball guru like Donnie Walsh may have a motive behind hiring the former Sun and in some years we may all be kicking ourselves while praising him.

For now, I’m against the strategy of hiring a coach who can provide more entertaining ball games rather than spark a club on both sides of the court.

There's nothing else to do but watch...

Maurice Podoloff Trophy: Kobe Bryant's Out, Who's In?

With Kobe Bryant barely being scratched off the "Best-player-who-hasn't-won-a-most-valuable-player-title" list, a new question arises: Who soars to the top?

Many come to mind...many very much stack up! A resounding number appears. However, there are only a few players who truly have the right to speak or be spoken about concerning the most prestigious trophy behind, of course, the big, gold ball.

Dominant, consistent power forwards, relentless passing machines, and unblockable shots are just a few of the characteristics that sum up the plays or elements of their games that were recognized but never trophy-worthy.

Or were they?

The bottom-line is the players in the same era were just better. True greats that go by names like Jordan, Johnson, Bird, Kareem, Russell, unfortunately prevented a tall, white Los Angelite or a short, black Detroit bad-boy from ever winning the award. Sad, yes, but true.

So...The following article will be of the most objective nature on who is actually the top candidate to receive the people's choice award. Not my favorite!

List of the NBA greats who never claimed the personal title:

Jerry West, Clyde Drexler, Isaiah Thomas, George Mikan, Elvin Hayes, Elgin Baylor, John Havlicek, John Stockton, Patrick Ewing, Gary Payton, Dominique Wilkens, Artis Gilmore (the only player on my list not to be in the NBA Hall of Fame)

All the players above are trophy-worthy, but there are only three players that I believe a feud or dispute could come into play over who receives the top honors:

1) Jerry West: Career average of 27 points per game over 14 seasons, 1969 finals MVP (the only time a losing player has won!), Olympic gold medal, NBA championship, and Hall of Fame honors. There are more, but you get the picture.

2) Isaiah Thomas: Averaged 9.3 assists per game and 19.2 points per game for his career, won two Championships and Finals MVPs.

3) Clyde Drexler: NBA Champion, Olympic Gold Medal winner, and Hall of Famer.

* John Stockton was very close from shoving Clyde off the list!

The question is not if these players were the most valuable for their team, because every player placed above was, but rather, would the success of the franchise shift drastically if they had not been there?

And the result is, yes, but never to the certain extent of the players that go by the numbers of 23, 33, or 32. The players that go by those numbers were the core and the reason why their teams became dynasties! The players above weren't.

What's your two cents?

The Sun Sets on Phoenix: Nash Just Can't Keep Up

Please, let us not blame the 36 year old Shaquille O'Neal or the trade that was effectuated for the athletic, high-skiing player Shawn Marion. “The Big Cactus," did his part in the playoffs. Coach Mike D' Antoni is also not to blame “He can't go out and play for them." Amare Stoudemire wasn't at the top of his game. Nevertheless, the responsibility of losing to the champs doesn't fall on his shoulders.

The quintessential factor, not just in this series but huge in all regular and playoff games, is the point guard, and the way he leads his team on the court. Floor general in Steve Nash—I think not!

The same reason why Jason Kidd and the Dallas Mavericks went tumbling down (Josh Howard was also a factor), and the main reason the Phoenix Suns just couldn't keep up with the reigning Champions, again.

You can say all you want about his passing skills (best in the league) and shooting beyond the ark ability down the stretch. However, the South African born player was needed more on the defensive end of the court and was needed in that aspect for the past four years.

The constant pick and rolls, tear-drops and ankle-breaking maneuvers had Steve "Nasty," not so nasty. Its unfortunate the two-time MVP and quite possibly the highest basketball IQ in the league is not capable of finding a solution to marking the French-man.

The result of this is the Suns drooling over a T.V set for the remainder of the playoffs, focusing on the remarkable man-handling ways of Tony Parker who will proceed to have his way with every floor general in the league, including rising star, Chris Paul.

We must forget Shawn Marion—that team was just not working! And focus on a trade that happened years ago.

The Arkansas-native Joe Johnson and his move to the Atlanta Hawks, may have been one of the biggest mistakes the Suns committed. The star-player was averaging 18 points before heading to the Atlanta Hawks and was becoming a force for the Suns in the playoffs.

The big man with incredible ball-control skills, alongside a killer shot is leading, right this instance, the Hawks to maybe the biggest upset in Basketball history. He is also a tall shooting guard with strength and could of brought a more intimidating presence to the Phoenix Suns.

What do the Suns do now?

Well, one of the three Texas power houses must acquire some bench support and find a more reliable, head-smart player to replace Raja Bell and have him as a force coming off the bench. Younger legs are also needed for the aging Suns who have the talent, but, evidently lack the potential.

NBA: Does Mark Jackson Pass the Height Requirement for Rollercoaster Ride?

"A one - horse race"

"His to lose or decline"

These are few of many statements individuals from around the league and sportswriters have to say about Mark Jackson and his possible involvement with Wrigley's Circus (New York Knicks). The back- tracking of Van Gundy who stated “its Mark's time” and the recently signed Scott Skiles to the Milwaukee Bucks make Mark Jackson the towering pick.

Truth is no one wants to risk their careers on a franchise that I believe will be back to the old days in 2 - 3 years.

So!

Is Mark Jackson suitable or being considered because he is the only person in contention?

Truth is! The former Knick has no clue how to run a club and only fantasizes about it with words threw broadcasting. That being said, I still believe the floor-general of so many NBA franchises brings youth the Knicks organization has never seen before.

Pat Riley = No

Van Gundy = No

Herb Williams = Had no Clue

Lenny Wilkens = Sort of

Larry Brown = Nop

Isaiah = Naaaa

On top of that experience runs threw the veins of the star point that is capable of handling horse play on and off the court.

The selection of Mark Jackson will bring life back into the organization. He throws onto the table a friendly ambiance. The Knick players don't need a dad but a friend.

”A happy worker does a better job"

And lets face it the Knicks players have never been happy with these Hitler like coaches.

The All - Star Backpacker

Correct word to sum up the career of native Brooklynite Mark Jackson. A star player he may have been but unfortunately no team really appreciated the talent of the play making point guard who came out of Bishop Laughlin Memorial and played in only one all-star game during his whole career.

Teams Mark Jackson has played for:

- New York Knicks

- Los Angeles Clippers

- Indiana Pacers

- Denver Nuggets

- Toronto Raptors

- Utah Jazz

- Houston Rockets

That's a lot of walking and truck and car pick ups only to be thrown back on the cold, hard and lonely road half way home.

But…

Can the hardest and most difficult task of his career be the rebuilding of a broken - down franchise? Will this make or break the chances of Mark Jackson strutting Brooklyn style down the Naismith Memorial road (not considered due to all the different teams he played for). The top head coaching candidate is expected to interview with Donnie Walsh any day now.

Let us pray...

“Mark Jackson bring the Knicks home...Yesssah”

“Scare away the evil spirits roaming...Hmmm”

“Fade the abandon ways of the Knick present...Ahh mennnahh”

“Bring us to the light....Yes sir”

“Bring us back...Mmmahh”

“Restore the light that once shined above!”

“Restore Ahhh...”

If you have a better strategy let me know…Lol
