Packing For Vegas: College Basketball Picks Dec. 31

Andrew KahnCorrespondent IJanuary 1, 2009

I bet that a contact lens fell out of Tyler Hansbrough's eye within 10 minutes of the above photo being taken. Just a guess.

Anyway, I'm glad only 12 people read my pick yesterday, since it was another loser! I guess Arkansas is better than I thought. Also, Oklahoma certainly needs to play better defense, which is something I pointed out in a story I wrote about a month ago.

Tonight I like a team that can play bad defense and still cover a big spread, since it has one of the most complete offensive attacks in college basketball history: North Carolina.

I feel comfortable laying 19 tonight against Nevada, a team UNC beat by 36 last year. I'll also be taking the first-half line, as the Heels have typically gotten off to a very good start in games this season.

Here's to a victory to close out 2008! Happy New Year to all!

Today's picks: UNC first half -10.5; 1 unit

                      UNC -19; 1 unit

Season Record: 23-16 (59 percent); +11.4 units
