The WWE Universe may have seen CM Punk retain his WWE Championship at TLC on Sunday, but this is no time for celebration.
F4WOnline.com reports that WWE officials are considering taking the WWE Championship off CM Punk due to "terrible ratings patterns" for his weekly segments on Raw.
The matter was broached prior to Sunday’s WWE TLC pay-per-view event, which saw Punk ultimately retain the strap in a Triple Threat Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match against Alberto Del Rio and The Miz. The trend of lackluster ratings for his segments continued the following night on Raw as the program’s overrun, which saw the Straight Edge Superstar, Daniel Bryan and Zack Ryder overcame The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler, only gain 59,000 viewers.
With fans not tuning in to the main events, it makes creative think that CM Punk is to blame.
As of now, there are a lot of rumors swirling around the Internet involving the WWE title.
Another rumor claims that CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho will face each other for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 28. This would mean that CM Punk would be holding the title for another few months.
Should WWE Creative Take The Title Off CM Punk?
If the creative team panics like they did with Alberto Del Rio this past fall then we may see WWE golden boy John Cena find his way back to the title scene sooner rather then later.
Personally, I think that they should wait out the storm and keep the title on CM Punk. Creative hoped that giving the title back to Cena in the fall would help ratings, but it did nothing.
Hopefully, they don't make the same mistake with CM Punk. He has the potential to have a great championship reign.
We will have to wait and see. I will post more on this story as it comes in.
