Matt Barkley Returning to USC: 5 Byproducts of the Juniors Decision

0 of 5

In a press conference that had Matt Barkley set in front of a massive Christmas tree at the University of Southern California, the junior quarterback announced he would return to play for the Trojans in his final year of eligibility.

When his stud offensive tackle Matt Kahlil declared for the draft earlier this week, it was believed that Barkley would join him as it was long-rumored that the two were a package deal but that has turned out to not be the case.

With the Trojans' postseason ban being lifted next season, the Trojans should be a force to be reckoned with in 2012.

USC Will Be Ranked in the Top 5 in the Preseason Rankings

With one of the better teams in college football in 2011, the USC Trojans will not lose much talent to the NFL Draft and should be ranked in the Top 5 when the preseason rankings are released.

Matt Kahlil is the only real major piece they will lose now that Barkley is returning and with the 15th-ranked recruiting class heading to SoCal in the fall, Lane Kiffin and company will replenish the program with young talent.

The Trojans should be the top contender to take down the juggernauts of the SEC in 2012, breaking the conference's long streak of BCS National Championships.

Robert Griffin III Will Be the Second QB Taken in the NFL Draft

Before his announcement earlier today, Matt Barkley was Robert Griffin III's top competition for being the second quarterback taken off the board after Andrew Luck.

But now that Barkley is returning to USC, RG3 will without a doubt be the second QB taken, likely in the top 10 somewhere.

Matt Barkley Will Be Taken No. 1 Overall in 2013 NFL Draft

It has been speculated that Matt Barkley returning to USC is not entirely about winning a BCS National Championship and Heisman Trophy but also about being picked No. 1 overall in the 2013 draft.

By returning to school, Barkley has all but reserved the No. 1 overall spot in 2013, barring any injuries or regressions.

This move has worked for some (Sam Bradford), and not for others (Jake Locker), but you can look for Barkley to be the No. 1 overall pick in 2013 unless he has some type of serious injury.

An NFL Team Will Reach for a QB in the 2012 First Round

Now that Matt Barkley is returning to USC, Andrew Luck and Robert Griffin III are the only two stud quarterbacks available in the upcoming NFL Draft.

With so many teams needing a quarterback, with Miami, Washington and Seattle to name a few, a team is likely to reach for one of the second-tier QBs in the first round.

The biggest beneficiaries of this decision are Landry Jones, Nick Foles and Ryan Tannehill.

Jones has been a projected first-round pick but one of the other two could move up thanks to Barkley.

Bold Prediction: USC Trojans Win 2013 National Title and Barkley Wins Heisman

With Barkley returning and the tons of other talent on the roster, the USC Trojans will win the 2013 BCS National Championship game.

Barkley to Robert Woods should be an unstoppable combination and both could very well end up in New York for the Heisman Trophy presentation.

In addition, Barkley will win the Heisman Trophy and do what Andrew Luck could not do when he returned to school.
