If you aren't spending, you aren't trying to win as an organization. That world football sentiment has added meaning for Liverpool as they head into the January transfer window.

The Merseyside faithful were already hoping their team was going to make a splash in January. The hope is that the wallet gets opened a bit in January to make the push for all-important causes such as European play next season.

I have no doubt that Kenny Dalglish's side would have been buyers no matter what the current state of the Reds' locker room, but now there is added cause to make a monetary statement in Europe.

By now, we have all heard that Luis Suarez will have to take an eight-match breather for racist remarks he is alleged to have made towards Manchester United's Patrice Evra.

The Liverpool forward will appeal this mammoth ban, but there is no telling if such a thing will be fruitful. So the team must answer the call for a player that may be out for quite some time.

And so we look to some very nice strikers that the club can use; some make sense for the short run in which they will need a presence up front.

As you will see, others are players the club would have been targeting no matter what. Their talent would infuse the side for years to come.

Let's take a look at some crafty vets as well as an up-and-coming youngster in a breakdown of possible Liverpool January targets.

Liverpool stands unified behind the fallen Suarez, but that doesn't mean they should wait before taking action. These talented players can help.

5. Carlos Tevez

I know what you are thinking: Tevez is a troublemaker that is on his way out of Manchester City. Well, the man is still a gem of a talent, and his exploits make him available at the moment.

The real question is whether the Blues would ever ship him out to Liverpool, and judging by the table standings, there is no reason they shouldn't.

AC Milan is still keen on a deal for Tevez. If that falls through, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini may just want Tevez out of his hair.

4. Wilfried Zaha

Crystal Palace has a gem in Wilfried Zaha, and Liverpool has taken notice. CaughtOffside.com alleges that Liverpool is intent on making a push for the young forward in January.

The report asserts Liverpool’s director of football Damien Comolli has sent scouts to gauge the form of Zaha as a possible feature in the Liverpool attack. This would be a fantastic find for the future at Anfield.

3. Karim Benzema

Liverpool has long been linked with interest to Karim Benzema. The Real Madrid forward has fallen out of favor at the Bernabeu and may like the idea of flourishing at Anfield.

There is no doubt that The Reds would have amazing depth up front once Suarez comes back. Dalglish would have what we like to call good problems deciding which striker to go with.

2. Loic Remy

Rumors are floating around that Arsenal is set to move in on Marseille star Loic Remy. Marseille is currently nine points off the pace in France and may be willing to part with one of their best players for a steep price.

His availability should have Dalglish jumping for joy as Remy has the form and flourish to ignite fans at Anfield. Liverpool is on the right track to contend for a EPL title, but this is not the season. The move is to grow for the future, and Remy does that.

1. Lukas Podolski

The Daily Mail reports Arsenal is set to move in on Lukas Podalski next month with a bid of £15 million. If you believe in what CaughtOffside.com is saying, Liverpool is willing and able to usurp Arsene Wenger's wishes.

It seems Liverpool are ready to offer €20 millions (£16.6 million) valuation. The fact that Suarez will be out for most of January makes Liverpool the obvious favorites to win the bidding as desperation raises what they are willing to offer.
