As we enter 2009, there are 10 resolutions that these teams, coaches, and players are making. From curses, to states of mind, to play-calling, everyone left in the bowl season has something to improve on.

These are the New Year's Resolutions for the 2009 bowl season*.

*Party hats and guilt not included

Georgia: We Still Got It

Georgia's resolution is to prove that they are still elite. Never mind that this is Stafford's last year, or that the Dawgs were preseason No. 1, Georgia HAS to finish strong. What better way to do that than by beating Sparty down and winning their bowl game?

USC: We Won't Blow It!

Display_image

USC has only one concern year in and year out: Which team is going to be their one loss this time?

Most of the time it's in conference, and most of the time its to a sub-par team. The kind of team that wins a bowl game by the score of 3-0.

USC can't keep their ridiculous swagger if they lose to Penn State. The Trojans just need to take the Rose Bowl seriously, and, next season, take ALL their opponents seriously. Even the Huskies...

Ohio State: We Are Worthy!

What a time to be alive... Win 10 games a year, at least, and still be considered a failure. Poor Buckeye fans. I'll tell you what though, if The OSU beats Texas, OSU is back!

Kinda... If Wells returns to Columbus.

Bottom Line: OSU is a wounded dog in the Fiesta Bowl, a wounded dog that is hungry for respect, Longhorn burgers, and some kibble too...

Utah: We Can Take The Next Step!

Utah NEEDS to beat Alabama. If they do, it will give alegitimacy the program has not experienced before.

Yes, Utah beat Pitt in the Fiesta Bowl a few years back, but that Pitt team is nowhere near the Alabama team that looms in New Orleans.

This is like Boise State-Oklahoma a few years back, win this one, and the Utes are the toast of college football. Lose, and its back to the drawing board, at least nationally, once again.

Ball State: We Won't Go Back...We Won't Go Back...

Ball State's resolution is to avoid slip back into mediocrity. That's easier said than done.

First, they have to rebound from a legendary loss to the Fighting Turner Gills of Buffalo, then they have to beat a top 3 offense in Tulsa.

If they accomplish those two feats, the Cards have to convince Nate Davis to stick around in Indiana. Wow. They might be better to just try to lose 20 pounds...

Bob Stoops: Getting the Nickname Back.

Bob Stoops has heard enough about it, I'm sure. He's not Big Game Bob anymore.

He can't coach in January anymore. He isn't what he used to be.

After this season, though, he can reclaim that moniker as his own. If he can just beat that pesky Florida team.

Tulsa: We're Still Mighty Offensive!

Gone are Steve Kragthorpe and Gus Malzahn. Is Tulsa going to revert to the form of the 90's that set new records for ineptness, or will Tulsa continue its offensive success?

Only time will tell. As for the GMAC Bowl, Ball State and a ranking, perhaps with a win, await the Golden Hurricane.

Even if Tulsa does slip back into mediocrity, they still have the best nickname in college football.

Urban Meyer: I AM the Best!

Meyer can cement his title as the best coach in football today with a win in Miami. He would be the first coach to win two BCS title games, and would be poised to win a third next year if Tebow returns and the team isn't rife with defections to the NFL.

Meyer could be the best around, if the Sooners don't keep him down.

Texas: We Are Better Than This!

Texas, it would seem, is in a no-win situation. If they lose to Ohio State, the lady in the picture has no argument. If the Horns win, then they still won't, probably, win the AP title.

Next year in Dallas will be fun for them though, as both a rivalry game, and a revenge game. With OU's graduation and NFL losses, the score might be worse than 45-35 for the Sooners.

Alabama: We Will Finish!

Alabama is, in many ways, the best story in football this year. From their rapid ascent to the No. 1 spot in the polls, to a coach who is loved/hated by every fan of every team in the game, Alabama WAS college football in 2008.

Then a loss to Florida derailed the Crimson Tide's express train of awesomeness, and sent them to the Sugar Bowl.

The lesson the Tide must learn: How to finish.

If they can beat Utah, then they have taken the first step to correcting the mistakes of the SEC Championship Game, namely, not finishing strong.
