The NFL is full of gifted athletes that excel beyond average standards.

These athletes possess amazing speed and colossal strength. However, some of these players waste their talent due to selfish behavior and lack of effort.

This causes them to never reach their full potential, and end up not succeeding to the level they are capable of.

Here are the five NFL stars wasting the most talent.

DeSean Jackson

DeSean Jackson is arguably the most explosive player in the league today.

The Eagles wide receiver boasts unbelievable speed and has the ability to blow past any defender.

However, the Pro Bowler is infamous for his childish antics on and off the field. The 25-year-old is known for taunting the opposition when scoring touchdowns by celebrating in immature ways.

The talented wideout has struggled with drops in his career and he seems to have no motivation to improve his ball-handling skills.

The UC-Berkeley product also slept through his alarm and missed a critical team meeting earlier this season.

Jackson has the ability to be one of the greatest wide receivers of this generation, but his stupid behavior is preventing him from reaching the next level.

Steve Johnson

Steve Johnson has emerged as one of the most deadly deep threats in the NFL over the past few seasons.

The Bills wide receiver has shown tremendous ability to separate himself from defenders and make terrific catches, but he also has a childish side.

The 25-year-old is notorious for his silly touchdown celebrations that result in heavy fines. Johnson also struggles with drops, due to a lack of attentiveness on the field.

If the Kentucky product wants to be one of the elite receivers in football, then he will have to concentrate at all times and keep his head in the game, not on his dumb post-score celebrations.

Carson Palmer

Carson Palmer has amazing skill and ability at the quarterback position, but his lack of dedication has cost him this season.

The former Pro Bowler spent the entire offseason holding out so he could receive a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals. When he was finally traded to the Raiders in October, Palmer was not in football condition.

The USC product did little physical activity during his holdout. The former first-round pick's lone exercise routines were doing Pilates and helping his son's football team.

The lack of conditioning or dedication has resulted in poor play from the quarterback. Palmer has thrown a staggering 13 interceptions in just seven games started for Oakland.

Albert Haynesworth

Albert Haynesworth has gained infamy for his laziness over the last few seasons.

The former Pro Bowl defensive tackle is known for giving up on plays, as well as not showing up fit for training camp.

In 2010, the 30-year-old could not complete his team's fitness test and as a result, he was deemed unfit by the medical staff.

The former first-round pick has the ability to be one of the most feared nose tackles in the game, but his lack of effort prevents him from being great.

Santonio Holmes

Santonio Holmes is one of the most clutch wide receivers in the game today, but his obnoxious behavior on and off the field has hindered his ability.

The Jets star is disreputable for his over-the-top celebrations on the field. Holmes mocked the Eagles during a touchdown dance last weekend, even when New York was down 21 points.

The former Super Bowl MVP also loses concentration often, as he fails to get involved at all in some games.

The Ohio State alumni has also garnered attention for causing problems in the locker room for publicly insulting other teammates.

This kind of childish behavior is unacceptable for a team captain, and it keeps Holmes from being arguably the top offensive weapon in AFC.
