The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Philadelphia Flyers for a second time in a row this weekend, this time by a score of 5-3 at the Wachovia Centre in Philadelphia.
The first goal of the game was scored by Alex Kovalev, his 27th of the season. The Canadiens' first line is still producing at will.
The Flyers replied to this goal as they were killing a penalty. Mike Richards registered his fifth shorthanded goal of the season. He leads the league in this department.
The Habs defensemen Francis Bouillon scored his very first goal of the season with only one second to play in the first period to give a one-goal lead to the Habs at the break.
After the tying goal from the Flyers from Braydon Coburn, Montreal added two more during the second period, scored by Michael Ryder and Saku Koivu. Both Montreal players broke their respective scoreless slump—Ryder with only his 9th goal of the season, Koivu with his 11th.
Both teams exchanged a goal late into the third period. With the win, Montreal gets even in points with the Ottawa Senators on top of the Eastern Conference. Both teams have 73 points so far this season.
For Philadelphia, the fall is hurting their chances to make the playoffs. The Flyers have lost their last seven games in a row and are now only one point away from being out of the playoff picture.
On the other side, Montreal consolidated their position in the Conference with the sweeping of the Flyers.
