The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fired head coach Raheem Morris, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, following a horrific 10-game losing streak that dropped the team's overall record during the 2011 NFL season to 4-12.
Morris led the Bucs to a 17-31 mark in three seasons at the helm. He had been lauded as a rising star among the coaching ranks just last season, when he led Tampa to a 10-6 record—a seven-win improvement from the 3-13 campaign the team endured in 2009. His Bucs became the first team since the 1970 NFL/AFL merger to post a winning record while starting at least 10 rookies.
Morris was promoted to the top job in Tampa after Jon Gruden was fired in January of 2009. His time with the Bucs had been punctuated by a season spent as the defensive coordinator at Kansas State, where he first developed a working relationship with current Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman.
