Illini-Boilermakers: Illinois Upsets Purdue to Start Conference 1-0

Last year, the Fighting Illini's 13th win came on March 8.

This season, the Illini have had a surprisingly great 13-1 (1-0) start with a win over No. 9 Purdue 71-67. For most of the game, it was the Mike (Tisdale) and Mike (Davis) show. The two sophomores had 30 points and six rebounds each.

On Monday, the Illini were ripped out of the Top 25 and answered that with this statement win. Five players scored in double-digits, and leading the way again was sophomore Tisdale with 18 points. The Illini committed only six turnovers with two coming in the second half. Alex Legion finally broke through with 12 points and five rebounds.

Purdue looked like the Illini of last year with their poor free throw percentage (55.4 percent). If the Boilermakers would have converted their free throws they probably would've won.

JaJuan Johnson was the Boilermakers leading scorer with 15 points.

No. 24 Michigan comes next for the Fighting Illini and they better play like they did against Purdue.

The Illini should be ranked, if they win at Michigan.
