According to David Kaplan at WGN radio, the Chicago Cubs are close to signing All Star switch hitter Milton Bradley to a multi-year deal.
Bradley spent the 2008 season with the Texas Rangers hitting .321 with 22 HR 77 RBI and a league best .436 OBP. Bradley played in 126 games for the Texas Rangers in 2008.
As I mentioned in one of my previous articles, Milton Bradley has been No.1 on general managers wish list since November.
While Bradley is a hitting machine, he has had trouble staying healthy. Bradley's career high in at bats took place in 2004 when he played in 141 games and had 516 at bats.
Bradley has also had some off the field incidences. A year ago, Bradley went after Royals announcer Ryan Lefebvre who Bradley felt made some derogative comments regarding Bradley. Bradley got within 20 feet of Lefevre before being restrained by manager Leon Washington.
Bradley's former teamates have always considered Bradley a great teamate who sometimes let his emotions get the best of him.
The 31-year old Bradley has a career batting average of .280 and is expected to be the everyday right field. Fukudome will move over to center and platoon with Reed Johnson.
Other News: Multiple reports are also reporting that the Cubs have agreed on a trade that will send Jason Marquis and his 11-9 record and 4.53 to the Rockies for journeyman relief pitcher Luis Vizcaino. Vizcaino struggle a year going 1-2 with a 5.28 ERA in 41 games. The deal saves the Cubs $5 million. The Cubs are expected to announce both deals once they become official sometime next week.
