WWE TLC 2011: Why the Miz Will Once Again Become WWE Champion

Fans of The Miz can rejoice this Sunday as The Awesome One takes part in the first-ever triple threat TLC match in WWE history. Facing off with Alberto Del Rio and champion CM Punk, The Miz has squeezed himself back into the title picture and has a chance to cap off 2011, which has become the year of The Miz. Let's backtrack a bit to truly understand that.

The Miz ended 2010 as WWE Champion, but had a thorn in his side in the form of John Morrison. Morrison won a match at TLC which gave him a world title opportunity, which was used on the first RAW of 2011. The match actually opened that week's episode, making it the first WWE match of the year, at least from a television perspective. The Miz would then continue his feud with Randy Orton, whom he pinned to become champion, by defeating him at Royal Rumble with help from CM Punk. He would then defeat Jerry "The King" Lawler at Elimination Chamber, which all built up to his showdown with John Cena at WrestleMania.

After escalating their feud with The Rock involved and even becoming tag team champion for a short time, The Miz faced Cena in the main event of WrestleMania. In the biggest match of his life, The Miz suffered a concussion during the match, which originally was a double countout. The Rock's involvement helped The Miz defend his WWE Championship. The next pay-per-view, however, was Extreme Rules. With John Morrison also inside, John Cena took the WWE Championship from The Miz during a steel cage match. The Miz was unsuccessful in a rematch on RAW and could not get Cena to lose an "I Quit" match at Over the Limit.

That match at Over the Limit was the last world title match on pay-per-view for The Miz until TLC this Sunday. So, what has he done since? Well, he fired Alex Riley as his apprentice the following night, leading to a feud with him at Capitol Punishment. The Miz would lose to Riley at the event and continue to suffer at the hands of the former NXT rookie. Both Riley and The Miz would enter RAW's Money in the Bank ladder match, but lose to Alberto Del Rio.

At SummerSlam, The Miz broke his no-match streak at the event by losing in a thrown-together opening six-man tag team match. In the bout, The Miz teamed with Del Rio, who became WWE Champion later that night, as well as R-Truth, who would become The Miz's tag team partner. The two, who went by the name of Awesome Truth, spoke about how there was a conspiracy against the both of them. They were unsuccessful in winning tag team gold at Night of Champions and attacked a referee in anger. It led to a storyline firing, which ended at Hell In A Cell with the two invading the cell. It was in that match that Del Rio won his second WWE Championship.

As Del Rio would lose that reign to CM Punk at Survivor Series, the real main event of that night was Awesome Truth facing the unlikely team of John Cena and The Rock. Despite minor problems between the two, Awesome Truth fell at Survivor Series and disbanded following that night after R-Truth was suspended for a Wellness Policy violation.

Thanks in part to R-Truth's suspension, The Miz is back on his own and looking for another world title run before 2011 is over. This is on the same year where The Miz was named as the top superstar in PWI's annual list of the top 500 wrestlers in the world. It has been one heck of a year for The Miz and he can cap it off incredibly if he can win at TLC. At the pay-per-view last year, The Miz was able to put Randy Orton through a table to retain his WWE Championship. The Miz also has success in TLC and ladder matches. It was a TLC match that was his first title defense as a world champion. It was also a Money in the Bank ladder match win that got him that world title.

The Miz has evolved over the year and is much more than a one-time world champion right now. With the WWE Championship being passed around like wildfire since it was taken from him, why not give it back to him anyway? Any booker will tell you that it is preferred for the babyface to "chase the heel" for a title. Punk hardly did any chasing, but could do so if The Miz takes the title at TLC. This could even lead to a match at WrestleMania.
