I have just read that the Panthers are considering Alge Crumpler.
I am a huge fan of Alge. He's Carolina born and bred. While I love the Crumpler family, and think they're all very nice, it's the decision making of Fox and Hurney I'm ultimately questioning.
We just released Dan Morgan because he was injury plagued. Isn't Crumpler entering that same age bracket, where the body isn't as resilient as it used to be? I think so.
So as for Fox and Hurney, why would you even look at Crumpler? Maybe as a solid TE backup? Certainly not a starter, right?
Fox and Hurney are under the microscope this year. They met with Richardson at the end of the year, spending a weekend at his lake house.
They told Richardson about their plan to return the Panthers to the Super Bowl. To do so, they would need to do documented items. This year there's accountability for the plan and someone's name is beside each of those items.
If they pick up Crumpler and place him as a starter, I think that's a bad move and one that could cost Fox and Hurney their jobs, and the Panthers another .500 season.

Man do I ever agree! Fox can coach but Hurney doesn't know a football player from a vacuum cleaner salesman. Crumpler is probably a very nice guy but as you alluded to he is a physical question mark. With the other moves out being hinted at out there due to salary reasons I just don't buy this one. Carolina needs o-line help and d-line help. First things first boys!

Andy obviously knows nothing because Crumpler is NOT injury prone. Last year was the only year where he was injured, but even then he still played 10 games. He was a All-Pro in 2006, he still has plenty left in him. And believe me, if we sign him, he WILL BE the starting TE.

Alge is a premier TE in this league and will be for years to come. We need his hands in Charlotte, everyone knows what a joke the rest of our receivers are-- seriously Colbert and Carter need to get on the first train out of town. He's worth the investment! Remember when everyone thought Kevin Greene was washed up and we took a chance on him? Well, okay, that was Bill Polian's expertise not Hurney and Fox, but still, should we rely on our draft picks to get some solid players? Ha ha

Hurney sure it with Chris Harris, Ken Lucas, Nail Diggs, etc, etc...
Crumpler would be a solid pick up, he's a very good blocker and can still move the chains. Everyone is acting as though he would get a blockbuster contract and I highly doubt that's the case. Give him a back loaded, incentive laden contract to come here and contribute on the field and as a mentor to King and Rosario.
For the right price, I think this is a no brainer, sign him up.
