The Mets have gotten a lot better this offseason. They have added K-Rod and J.J.Putz, but can they win the East?
It looks like they will get either one or two new starting pitchers. It also looks like the options are Derek Lowe, Oliver Perez, and Randy Wolf. I would like to see Derek Lowe as a Met next season, but I think they will also be fine with Oliver Perez.
The Phillies got Raul Ibanez this offseason to replace Pat Burrell, who is now a free agent and is drawing interest from the Mets. And Chase Utley is going to be out at least until late July with an injury.
That makes it a bit easier for the Mets, but the Phillies are not the only team the Mets need to fear. The Marlins are a boom waiting to explode. All their young talent is bound to get better, and the Nats are looking to get another power bat.
But it still looks like the Mets are the "team to beat," because they are the team with the fewest problems. The Mets are a team with hunger to win, especially after looking at the Phillies winning the World Series, they will not blow it again.
