NHL Trade Rumors: Are the Philadelphia Flyers Talking Trade with the Canadiens?

Last night, news broke that the Montreal Canadiens may not yet be done making changes to their roster. All we know right now is that it most likely involves a major player, and he could either be traded or waived within the next few days.

When I first heard the news, my immediate thought was that it's got to be Scott Gomez.

He hasn't really been working out all that well for Montreal, and I'm sure they'd love to get him off the books to clear salary and potentially make a few more moves. After all, he hasn't really lived up to the $7,357,143 that he's making this year alone.

However, Scott's contract will be hard to rid themselves of, unless they plan on just waiving him.

It's hard not to believe the Philadelphia Flyers are at least kicking the tires with the Canadiens. As much as Paul Holmgren and Peter Laviolette say that they're "comfortable" with their team moving forward, I think they both know that they'll need to make a move at some point, even if it's not right away.

Chris Pronger will be out until further notice, and we're still uncertain on Claude Giroux until he gets back on the ice.

Knowing that the Flyers are certainly in the market for a defenseman, I began to wonder if maybe Montreal and Philadelphia have been talking a swap in order to obtain a much-needed blueliner. While I can't fully prove that these talks are even happening, I can assure you that the two teams have at least had discussions.

So, who might the Flyers be interested in?

Well, there's always the new addition, Tomas Kaberle. The Flyers have had an interest in Kaberle for some time now, but his salary is something that they would have a tough time fitting under the cap.

If the Flyers were able to shed some salary, possibly Scott Hartnell's contract or another big contract, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Philadelphia go for Kaberle. I'm sure Philly fans everywhere would riot harder than Vancouver fans if that ever happened, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.

If you had a choice, who would you take?

So what about Hal Gill or Chris Campoli? Both have salaries that the Flyers could easily fit under the cap, both are unrestricted free agents at season's end and they probably wouldn't have to give up an arm or a leg to acquire them.

Gill and Campoli will never fill Chris Pronger's shoes, but they would certainly help to stabilize the blue line, and their experience would only help the younger guys.

Of the two, I think I'd rather have Hal Gill, but that's just me.

Hal has the experience and knows what it takes to win a Stanley Cup. He's a competitor and he's got a big body. That would also give the Flyers three former Penguins

So, what do you think? Would you be interested in Hal Gill or Chris Campoli?
