2011 Bowl Games: 5 Most Lopsided Matchups
There may be no more aggregious offender of bowl injustice than Boise State. The Broncos should have been playing for a title, now they won’t even come close.
Instead they have to face an Arizona State squad who doesn’t have half a chance. Even if the Sun Devils stick with Boise through halftime, there is very little hope in the game, rendering the game a fruitless exhibition.
This is the problem with so many of these bowls: the teams are predetermined by the rankings. Placing third in the Big Ten will automatically put you in the bid for a bowl regardless of whether or not you are the most deserving team or if it’s the best matchup.
It’s a broken system and it’s a shame that college football fans aren’t served by a committee that actually cares about providing fans with the best overall experience.
