Carolina Panthers 23, Atlanta Falcons 31

Newton played like a rookie today and Ryan played like an experienced quarterback.
I stole that comment from my girlfriend's father and uncle.

The Falcons are going to keep handing the ball off to Michael Turner.
Carolina is out of timeouts as the clock approaches the two-minute warning.
I just commented that I'm not going anywhere, but I can't say the same for Panthers fans filing out of the stadium.
Carolina Panthers 23, Atlanta Falcons 31
Fourth Quarter
Panthers turn the ball over on downs as Newton missed NaaNee...and didn't even see a wide-open Steve Smith.
This has been a game of completely different halves.
Falcons should be able to run out the clock, but I'm not turning the game off yet.
Carolina Panthers 23, Atlanta Falcons 31
Fourth Quarter
Steve Smith's catch was confirmed and he has six catches for 125 yards.
Newton just fired high on a shot in the end zone intended for LaFell on first-and-five

Carolina Panthers 23, Atlanta Falcons 24
Fourth Quarter
Olindo Mare just hooked a 36-yard attempt that would have given the Panthers a two-point lead with five minutes to go.
What a waste of an 11-play, 69-yard drive.
Mare may get the hook after this game if the Panthers don't come back to win.

Fourth Quarter
Newton is leading the Panthers down the field, getting into Falcons territory for the first time this half.
The option-run is working for Newton today and he took a big hit on a roughing the passer play.
Carolina has a legit opportunity to take the lead back from the Falcons.

Fourth Quarter
Another big gain for the Panthers as Jonathan Stewart picked up 16 yards on a pass play.
Smitty is back involved in the game with his first catch of the half.
Gotta love this guy. I see another big play or two from Smith before this one is over.
Cam looks settled.

Fourth Quarter
Panthers are getting the ball back after consecutive three-and-outs for both teams.
The Panthers have punted four times and turned it over twice (interceptions) in their last six possessions.
I was down for a second, but I'm back online now.

Fourth Quarter
After scoring 23-straight points in the first half, the Panthers have given up 17 in-a-row to start the second half.
This game is eerily reminiscent of the Week 6 game in which Atlanta came back to win 31-17.
No one in the room is talking about X-Factor or spousal obedience right now.
Julio Jones just scored a touchdown to help the Falcons take the lead 24-23.

Wait, they just did.

End of Third Quarter
The third quarter was a big one for the Falcons and disaster for the Panthers.
What looked like a blowout in the first half has turned into a typical NFC South battle.
With 15 minutes to go, the Panther are up by four and it's anyone's game.

The Panthers are self-destructing with turnovers and penalties in the third quarter.
More (potential) bad news for the Panthers as Ryan Kalil went down holding his shoulder.
Not sure about the severity of the injury...could just be a stinger.
Carolina Panthers 23, Atlanta Falcons 17
Third Quarter
James Anderson and Charles Johnson just got Matt Ryan for the Panthers' third sack of the game and Matt Bryant missed a 46-yard attempt.
Newton owes his defense a round of congratulations after that last series.

This game is turning around quickly.
Cam Newton just threw his second pick of the third quarter on an ill-advised deep pass to William Moore for the Falcons.
Not sure who Newton was throwing to.

SCORING UPDATE
Matty Ice just hooked up with running back Jaquiz Rodgers for a 41-yard scoring pass to capitalize on the Panthers turnover.
That was reminiscent of the screen pass interception Newton threw in the first game between these teams, which the Falcons also turned into 7 points.
Carolina Panthers 23, Atlanta Falcons 10
Third Quarter
Cam Newton passed Matt Ryan for 3rd all-time passing yards by a rookie and he's within about 50 yards of passing Sam Bradford for second all-time.
As I said that, Newton made a STUPID rookie mistake, flipping a shovel pass to a Falcons linebacker when he should have taken the sack.
