After a terribly long NBA lockout that has reduced the 2011-12 NBA season to 66 games, basketball is finally back. From Portland guard Brandon Roy announcing his early retirement, to a vetoed Chris Paul trade that would have sent him to the Los Angeles Lakers, the NBA is already full of drama and the season hasn't even started yet.

With many valuable free agents currently on the market, and a variety of different trade scenarios on the table, this very short offseason is guaranteed to be an exciting one. Six days are left until the preseason games begin, and in that short time period a bevy of signings and trades are guaranteed to go down. Many rosters will be incredibly different from last year, making the upcoming season extremely competitive.

It seems as if the Chris Paul trade to Los Angeles will eventually go through, and due to recent talks, it looks like Dwight Howard will be heading to the New Jersey Nets. As more trades and signing rumors arise, it is important to pay attention for the next week or else you'll be lost this NBA season.

Vince Carter may be on his way to Dallas to back up point guard Jason Kidd, while it has been rumored that recently-waived guard Richard Hamilton is expected to sign with the Chicago Bulls. However, there are a handful of players that have already officially decided what team they want to play for this season.

Tyson Chandler hasn't wasted much time this offseason, signing with the New York Knicks for a reported $58 million.  Also, Caron Butler has signed with the Los Angeles Clippers, while Marcus Thornton chose to re-sign with the Sacramento Kings.

Expect a whirlwind of trades and signings to occur in the next couple of days. So, be sure to stay tuned for all updates involving the NBA offseason.
