5 Reasons Phil Kessel Will Be the Toronto Maple Leafs' First Art Ross Winner

0 of 6

The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a fantastic start to the season led by sniper Phil Kessel and his production on the score sheet.

Kessel is finally doing what GM Brian Burke brought him in to do. He currently is the NHL league leader in points and doesn't look to be easing up anytime soon.

But does he actually have a realistic shot to win the Art Ross Trophy and become the Toronto Maple Leafs' first ever winner?

Here are 5 Reasons Phil Kessel Will Be the Toronto Maple Leafs First Art Ross Winner.

1. Kessel Changed His Game

Phil Kessel is not the player he was in previous seasons. He is playing good, responsible hockey, and it is translating to results on the score sheet.

Kessel's new approach to the game has made him deadly. He has the talent to dominate this league and put up the most points. Period.

2. He Currently Is Atop the Leader Board

There is no reason that Phil Kessel couldn't be the Art Ross winner, because if the season were to end today, he'd be the winner.

He has shown he can do it. Consistency will be his only downfall.

3. He Has the Talent Around Him

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been one of the better teams in the league with many different players contributing. Some of Phil Kessel's success needs to be attributed to those around him. Guys like Joffrey Lupul are changing games. These talented players around Kessel are enough to keep this guy atop the league table.

4. He Has the Release

The kid can shoot the puck. Simple. There is no way you win the Art Ross without being able to earn the point with your stick slotting the puck into the net. Phil Kessel has one of the best releases out there, and this is the most important attributes to putting up points.

He gets the puck off fast.

5. Kessel Has a Whole City Behind Him

Toronto has been stripped of its elite athletes, and Kessel fills this void. The whole city is rooting for him, and if he were to win this award, it would mean a ton to the city.

There are a plethora of reasons why a Toronto Maple Leaf doesn't deserve this award, but if there was one to get it, it's Phil Kessel.

He has been doubted in this town before, but everything has changed. He has become a fan favourite, while his shyness has become likable. We are all rooting for you Phil!

Conclusion

Phil Kessel has a realistic chance to win the Art Ross Trophy this season. He needs to keep leading the team to victories and be a game-changer. Kessel is the man!

It would mean the world to the city of Toronto if one of our players won this award.

I think it's going to happen. What are your thoughts?
