This Indianapolis Colts organization is not only failing on the field, but it's failing in the front office. The Colts are too talented and have too much history over the last decade to be like this.
Usually, the Colts are a tight-lipped, respect-everyone franchise. They say very little, but make sure it's the right thing. If you were ever wanting to get a good juicy story, the Colts were the last place to go to.
Now, since Peyton Manning has been injured, this team is getting more talk than ever before. Everyone at the beginning of the year was wanting to know when Manning will be back, when he can throw again, and what's going on.
Now, everyone is wondering if Manning will ever come back, if he will play for the Colts if he does come back, what the Colts will do with Andrew Luck and Manning and why the Colts are failing so bad.
If this were 2010 and any season prior, none of these questions would have been answered. Manning said the right things and made sure everyone in this organization followed suit.
Now, owner Jim Irsay tweets more than the average school girl, and vice chairman Bill Polian can't keep his mouth shut.
Polian made a bold statement on his own radio show a little over a month ago that Manning was OK with the Colts drafting his replacement next year. He said they talked it over and it was good to go to groom his replacement.
Everyone believed this, but Manning shocked the world last week when he said he never said that. He has voiced his displeasure with Polian and this organization about what has been said and he told reporters that they had this conversation two years ago, but nothing was ever determined when they would draft a replacement.
Manning did go on to say they never talked about drafting a quarterback in the 2012 NFL Draft.
I believe Manning about all of this. Manning is getting agitated by everything going on and I believe all the rumors about him maybe not wearing the blue and white uniform of the Colts next year.
Manning has never associated with anyone about leaking information out or making false statements. I mean, the most popular player in the NFL and an icon around the world had twins for more than two weeks before anyone knew about it. Talk about a very smart guy with his surroundings and people he's around.
If Polian keeps this up it may be too late to save this franchise. The damage has already been done, and if he doesn't shut it up this team might as well sign Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco—or Johnson, or whatever he goes by now—and turn this team into a hit new reality drama on E!
That's what this team is becoming. A laughingstock on and off the field.
If I were Irsay, I'd grow up and delete my Twitter account and tell Polian to put a muzzle on it or this franchise will never be relevant again.
