After three seasons at Auburn that included one BCS Championship year, Ted Roof will move on to be the defensive coordinator at Central Florida for the 2012 season, according to auburnundercover.com (h/t al.com).

This is quite the surprise as Roof’s Tiger defense was ranked 78 to finish the season and the Central Florida defense was ranked 11 in the FBS division this season.

Roof will be the second member of the original staff put together by Gene Chizik in 2009 to move on. Tracy Rocker moved on to the NFL after the 2010 season.

Ted Roof has ties to the Central Florida staff from his years spent at Georgia Tech. Head Coach George O’Leary of Central Florida was the head coach at Georgia Tech when Ted Roof was the defensive coordinator there.

There have been some very impressive names circulating as possible replacements for Ted Roof at Auburn. Time will tell if there should be any credence given to this speculation.
