I've been to every web site available to look at the Schumacher era of F1 races. After about 10 minutes, it's easy to see why F1 has become so boring.
I was a fan that got up at 7 am on a Sunday, fixed myself a big breakfast and got ready to watch the race. I would also stay up for the late night races.
I have a new program as an F1 fan, DVR , so I can sleep in and then watch the last 10 laps. Actually the last 10 laps look exactly the same as the first 10.
The main thing I noticed watching those old races is the fact they are actually racing one another. Someone was always challenging Schumacher.
Most noticeable were the battles with Hakkinen and of course the in your face style of Juan Pablo Montoya. Those were great battles, something worth watching. I was at the edge of my chair and had to keep reminding myself that it was a clip from the past.
Schumacher, a gladiator if you will no longer exists, nor do challengers or competitors like Montoya or Hakkinen for that matter.
F1 has become a bunch of very rich young drivers, who probably don't want to make any waves. They just want to find a comfortable place on the track to take their Sunday drive( just to drive, no racing!) and then go back to their villa and have a vintage wine and cheese with their beautiful ladies.
Sorry my dear hardcore F1 fans, but it is boring. I was watching a Formula Atlantic race on the Speed Channel and that was more fun.
All is not lost, there is a new young German who may just wake this series up. Now all you need is another hot headed South American and we are in business.

Hmmm - don't know about that! The Schumacher era became so boring and predictable that the points system was changed to thwart him, it didn't work.

Agree very predictable.. he won lots races becouse he was a RACER. I have not seen any racing like the ones i mentioned in F1 in 2007 or 2008 , but maybe the old clips were fixed or i just missed the great overtakes the last few years . lol..sorry,im just being a smart rear ..lol, forgive me..lol..
But seriously Duncan i actually heard an F1 expert from England say that passing in racing is overrrated ! honest to god , it was on the Speed , i wish i could remenber the name , has F1 come to that ? where experts think passing is overrated , i could not believe it when i heard that..

okay, I need Schumacher back and that too in one of the back marker cars; who cares for Schumi in a Ferrari any more? If the bloke is good/great/sensational -- let him win the damn WDC in a back marker car

Schumi should buy out Honda and team up with Ross Brawn again. He could be an owner/driver and pair up with Jenson. It would be good timing with all the new rule changes coming into play.

Al, I think the quote you are referring to was of someone talking about how the current system of overtaking is overrated in relation to pit-stops, I think. Were a lot of the position exchanges are only due to tactical pit-stops.
It may not be the quote you are thinking of, but I'm confident it is.
And on the subject of Schumacher, I can't believe anyone would want him back to F1. I don't want to come across as a ranter on how Schumacher is some big cheat. But I really don't think he was good for the sport (and no, not because of skill). He had un-sporting tendencies in both Benatton and Ferrari.
The use of electronic aids in 1994 when they were banned (used in their race start), and I won't even start with the cloak and dagger shenanigans at Ferrari.
This year hasn't been boring (sans French GP and Valencia). Thrilling race in Monaco, amazing spectacle in British GP and the closest finale we could have hoped for in Brazil.
No, thankfully the Schumacher/Ferrari era is gone.

Jack you nay be right about the quote. Ive been looking at the Speed videos trying to find the interview ,but had no luck. It really bothers me to quote something that may be wrong. I do know that is what i heard, becouse it surprised the heck out of me. The boring part , well those are just opinions a friend of mine thinks Jennifer Lopez is ugly, go figure....lol...lol thanks you for the post Jack..

I agree 100% with what Al says. Michael was so totally watchable on the track. It didn't matter whether he was racing another car or miles ahead as was so often the case. He had such star quality that you just had to watch and marvel. There are some very talented drivers on todays grid, but I don't think we will ever see the likes of Michael again. I am proud to say I supported him throughout his career and was privileged to be at Monza in 2006 to see him win one of his last races.
