Spurs-Timberwolves: It's the Tony Parker Show

C. Joseph SalomonsonDec 23, 2008

Tony Parker shows up when the Spurs play the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Reminiscent of his 55-point, 10-assist performance in Minnesota Nov. 5, Parker scored 36 points against the Wolves Tuesday night at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

Parker was also in the Christmas spirit, handing out gifts like Santa, with his eight assists on the night.

With Parker’s dazzling performance, the Spurs coasted to a 99-93 home win over the Timberwolves.

Despite a late Timberwolves run in the fourth quarter, Parker made several big jump shots to finally put away the Wolves, including a long two-pointer with two minutes left in the game.

Parker not only had a hot hand shooting the ball, he was also attacking and penetrating to the basket throughout the game, making circus shots and tough layups against the T-Wolves bigs.

Minnesota showed it is a young ball club, making crucial mistakes down the stretch, including not fouling the Spurs with 25 seconds left in the game and only a six-point deficit.

A very consistent Tim Duncan added 19 points and 12 rebounds. Michael Finley also had a great night, ending up with 13 points. He shot well early and got the Spurs rolling in the first quarter.

Tuesday night was the fifth game in seven days for the Spurs. San Antonio has won nine out of its last 11 games.

The Spurs have won six straight at home and are 11-2 at the AT&T Center since losing their first three games there.

Despite the screwed up schedule recently, the Spurs fly to Phoenix tomorrow in preparation for their Christmas Day match-up with the Suns, who have not played in five days.

The Suns have been relaxing, finishing up their Christmas shopping and enjoying home cooking in Phoenix, and should be well-prepared for the big game Thursday on ABC.

But remember this, Suns fans: The Spurs have four NBA championship banners hanging in their rafters.
